There can only be one… when it comes to being Number One.

But it when it comes to being Number Two, two is just fine.

That’s head coach’s John Fox take on the Denver Broncos quarterback situation this season. Following reports that Brady Quinn had all but locked up the No. 2 QB spot, Fox told reporters after practice Tuesday that the team doesn’t plan on naming a true Broncos blue No. 2 until the season starts. And even then, their roles will mix.

“[I]t’s going to be [one or the other] when the season starts, just because of the new rules,” Fox said. “It’s a competitive disadvantage to announce that from the standpoint of different strengths and weaknesses by particular quarterbacks.”

The new rules to which Fox refers allow teams to dress 46 players on game day without penalty. The old rules allowed 45, with teams allowed to designate one additional player – a third-string quarterback who could only play with certain restrictions. Those restrictions have been removed, and all 46 are considered “active.” Expect Quinn and Tebow to dress each week.

All this really means is that the Broncos plan on using Tebow in specialized packages while keeping Quinn sidelined as the primary backup (as a primary backup should). I expect Quinn to win the No. 2 “spot,” but that’s rather meaningless. Barring a Kyle Orton injury, the Broncos’ “No. 3” QB will get more snaps this season than its “No. 2.”

Meanwhile, I’d like to see the Broncos list both as No. 2. On the web site. Introduce the world to Tibrady Quibow. Make Tim Tebow’s name change to “Brady Quinn” when you hover over it with your mouse. Make it happen.

Fantasy Football is a season of giving. Usually these gifts are ones of smack-downs, tears, self-loathing, or a hole in your wallet.

Fantasy Football is also a season of taking. However, all of the danger lies in the taking. The culprit of this danger, is the Fantasy Draft. Year after year, many think they have devised a brilliant scheme to win their league.

However, most of these revelations equate to decisions like drafting Donovan McNabb because he and Mike Shanahan are a match made in heaven.

Whether it’s a snake or an auction draft, there are some hefty decisions to be made. No decision weighs greater than who to place the stakes of your personal franchise on. I’m talking, who’s going to be the bread maker?

Last season you didn’t see Arian Foster or Michael Vick going in the first round or even auctioned over $10 for that matter. Whereas this year, you won’t be able to take these guys past sixth overall or for cheaper than fifty big-ones.

This year the draft board is more convoluted than ever. With concerns about Foster’s hamstring, Vick’s durability and consistency, Chris Johnson’s holdout, Peyton Manning‘s neck, Maurice Jones-Drew‘s knee, Ray Rice being able to live up to his fantasy hype, and even Adrian Peterson‘s offensive line, there is no clear-cut number one, bona fide, mack-daddy top choice.

Or is there? You let us know.

Which fantasy player is worth the top spot?

  • Adrian Peterson (57%, 8 Votes)
  • Ray Rice (21%, 3 Votes)
  • Michael Vick (14%, 2 Votes)
  • Chris Johnson (7%, 1 Votes)
  • Brandon Lloyd, I smell a repeat (7%, 1 Votes)
  • Other, list in the comments. (7%, 1 Votes)
  • Arian Foster (0%, 0 Votes)

Total Voters: 14

FYI – Shameless Bronco fantasy stat: In the last three weeks of the 2010 season, no player scored more fantasy points than Tim Tebow.

It looks like Brady Quinn has established himself as the No. 2 quarterback in Denver.

Reports out of Denver indicate Monday’s practice was as clear an indicator as any that the Broncos will be looking for Quinn to backup Kyle Orton, and not Tim Tebow. Quinn’s depth chart shuffle with Tebow that occurred nine days ago, initially announced as a temporary shift, will become permanent once the Broncos release their regular season depth chart next week.

That being said, Tebow continues to get more work as the Broncos develop and evaluate the quarterback. It’s even possible that Tebow will get more snaps than Quinn again Thursday in Arizona as the Broncos continue to evaluate the controversial Florida product.

They seem to know what they have in Quinn.

Quinn’s transformation this offseason has been remarkable; the first round draft pick has looked better than at any other time in his young career. Rather than piling on Tebow we’ll give credit to the hard work and effort Quinn put in this offseason; he’s earned his status in Denver. For Tebow, there’s always next year.

Broncos’ Brady Quinn now clearly Denver’s No. 2 QB, but to what end? [Denver Post]

[UPDATE 08/30/2011 10:51 a.m.] The title of this post was changed from “Brady Quinn locks up No. 2 QB Spot.”

The Von Doom Machine is a thing of blurred orange and blue beauty.

Arms flailing, cleats churning, the pass rushing duo has proven to be an insurmountable pair to every foe they have faced. Incredible speed off the snap from rookie Von Miller. Power and experience from 2009 sack king Elvis Dumervil.

And, to the keen eye, notable adjustments from both players as the game moves along. Different angles against the same player. Bouncing off blocks in unexpected ways. Evolving attacks that render revolving quarterbacks.

The two combined for 3.5 sacks Saturday in a 23-20 last second victory over the Seattle Seahawks that showcased what promises to be a vastly improved defense from the unit the Denver Broncos fielded last year. The first team defense surrendered only three points and 39 yards in one half of play. For the third straight week, the Broncos’ starting defense shut down its opponent. Seattle’s only offense-driven touchdown came in the fourth quarter, with their starters playing against second and third-string Broncos defenders. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Three sacks. Three points. 39 yards.

Those are the crucial stats from the first half of Week 3 Preseason action in Denver Saturday. The Broncos lead the Seahawks 10-3 thanks to their swarming defensive effort that has swallowed QB Tarvaris Jackson and all Seattle runners (who averaged 1.6 yards per carry).

It’s the third straight preseason game the Broncos have held their opponent to three points.
