As the 2012 NFL Draft draws closer, the Denver Broncos will get a closer look at all the top collegiate players this weekend in Indianapolis at the NFL’s annual Scouting Combine. With the running back position appearing to be one of Denver’s offensive needs, several backs have been linked to the Broncos in the past twenty-four hours.

On Friday evening, ESPN NFL Insider Cecil Lammey tweeted that the Broncos have been most associated with Boise State running back Doug Martin, Washington’s Chris Polk and Oregon’s LaMichael James (pictured). A few moment’s prior to Lammey’s tweet, Andrew Mason of MaxDenver.com reported that Utah State’s Robert Turbin has already spoken to the Broncos.
All four of the running backs will participate in the combine on Sunday, and were measured and weighed on Friday.  The foursome are all commonly considered among the top-ten prospects at their position, with Martin expected to go the earliest as a second-round prospect. Fellow football fans,
With the final draft order carved in stone, I now call upon your participation. I need 29 of the best, brightest, and most eager of you.
Every day after the “select-ees” are selected, an article authored by you, the reader, will grace the cover of BroncoTalk.net.
The Rules
You are the GM. There are currently 29 teams in the first round. You will assume control of a franchise and you will elegantly and ardently, elucidate your selection for your respective team. The article should ideally be 200-300 words in length, but if you want to write more, you are welcome to.
This means that if you get assigned the Cleveland Browns, you will have two articles to write. One article for pick 4, and another article for pick 22.
To Enter
All you have to do is email me your top four teams you would like to select for, your pen name, a contact email for the other participants, and a couple sentences about you (where you’re from, who you are, and etc) and why you want to participate.
Send your emails to – east@broncotalk.net.  Just to be clear, draft picks will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. If someone beats you to your top team, I will go down your list and assign you the next available franchise.
The Twist
Oh, and here’s the twist. All participants will receive a list of contact emails of the other participants. Why? Trades are in effect for this interactive mock draft. If you want to select higher, or even lower at that, you need to email the reader assigned at that spot and work out a deal.

Knowshon Moreno, Denver’s 3rd year formerly starting running back, is on the verge of being a draft bust. Josh McDaniels drafted him #12 in the 2009 draft and, given his stellar college career, he came into the NFL with high expectations. At Georgia, despite declaring for the NFL draft as a junior, he held sixth place in the school record list for 498 rushing attempts, 2,734 rushing yards, and 30 rushing touchdowns.
But his first year with the Broncos was met with disappointment: he managed only a 59.2 yards per game average in 16 games, and a paltry 7 touchdowns. He seemed slow to hit the hole, indecisive, and lacked a burst once he hit the second level. His performance seemed less than pedestrian. While it is true that the offensive line took a lot of the blame for his poor performance, Moreno himself seemed to be much of the problem.
2010 was not any better. He only played in 13 games, but his average per game went up by only .7 to 59.9 yards per game and only 5 touchdowns. Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Name: Tony Hills |
Height, Weight: 6’5″, 304 |
Position: Tackle |
Age, Experience: 27, 5 |
College: Texas |

Tony Hills entered his fourth training camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2011 with a new task: play right guard. He started at the position for the team’s second and third preseason games and reportedly played well; however, for one reason or another, the Steelers reverted to their original starter, Doug Legursky, and Hills was cut. The Denver Broncos quickly picked him up and signed him to a two-year deal. Hills, a fourth round draft pick by the Steelers in the 2008 NFL draft, played in five games during his three years in Pittsburgh, including some special teams work in Super Bowl XLV.
2011 Analysis: Hills was listed as second-string RT behind Orlando Franklin on the team’s depth chart and never saw time.
Contract Status: Signed through 2012; Free agent 2013
2012 Outlook: Hills represents versatility with the potential for more. The Broncos have him listed as a tackle, where he played in college and almost his entire NFL career, but the fact that he spent last year’s training camp in Pittsburgh preparing to play guard means the Broncos could count on him to convert again in a serious pinch. He hasn’t lived up to his fourth round draft potential, but he has good size, good measurables, and will push whomever is in front of him on the depth chart for playing time.
As always, we invite you, the readers, to participate. Is Hills a worthwhile backup O-linemen or should the Broncos look elsewhere?

Earlier in February when I was reviewing the Denver Broncos free agency needs at wide receiver, I skimmed over the Pittsburgh Steelers Mike Wallace. I tend to skip over both the big names and restricted free agents when I am evaluating free agents, because there is little need to discuss a player like Wes Welker or Dwayne Bowe, because, if in fact they are available the utter mob that would barrage that particular agents phone would normally not include anyone from the Broncos organization.
Recent events in The Birmingham of America (Pittsburgh) have brought to light that the Steelers have some major issues with cap space and a full-court press by internet blogs to pull the trigger early on who will be the odd man out once the team realizes that there really isn’t any more room to keep all of those starters and draft new ones. The thing about internet blogs is they often are the ones that create the next days headlines (and talking points for those talking heads on the radio and behind the sports desks of your favorite TV stations).
So! It does seem to me that Wallace will probably be the one who is allowed to test the market, the young receiver is entering his fourth season and is on the brink of becoming the next big thing (as far as NFL receivers are concerned).

Yesterday Fox Sport’s Adam Shein had an interesting quote that gained little ground around Denver, but sure rang loudly around these parts,
Brandon Lloyd of course left abruptly after playing two quarters with the Denver Broncos as the Tim Tebow era was ushered in. He of course left to join former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels with the St. Louis Rams in what looked to a marriage made in heaven working with the sensational Sam Bradford.
Only something interesting happened over the rest of the season, Bradford played less than sensationally, McDaniels went on to coach one of the worst offenses in the NFL before leaving at the end of the season to join the New England Patriots on their Super Bowl run and Lloyd ended up an unrestricted free agent begging publicly to join McDaniels in New England. When Lloyd left Denver he had played four games, caught 283 yards and no touchdowns, in his eleven games with St. Louis he was worth an additional 683 yards and five touchdowns, seeing drops in his average, yards after catch and 1st down ratio. Name: Brodrick Bunkley |

Position: Defensive Tackle |
Age, Experience: 28, 7 |
College: Florida State |

Brodrick Bunkley is a seventh-year defensive tackle who played in at least 14 games in each of his first six seasons in the NFL. A 2006 first round draft pick, Bunkley totaled 305 tackles in his first six seasons and started in nearly every game since 2007. With the Philadelphia Eagles, Bunkley started on a defense that ranked fifth in the NFL in rushing defense (100.8 yards per game) from 2007-10. He was traded to the Denver Broncos in 2011 for an undisclosed 2013 draft pick, and helped elevate one of the league’s worst defenses into a far more respectable one. Bunkley is a physical force in the middle and demonstrated that in Denver; even coming into the NFL, his strength was quantitatively impressive. Bunkley famously bench pressed 225 pounds a whopping 44 times at the 2006 NFL Combine and was drafted by the Eagles 14th overall that year. He didn’t quite live up to those high expectations there but is a quality run-stopper in the middle.

If there is tension between Denver Broncos quarterbacks Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn, former Colorado Buffaloes signal-caller Tyler Hansen hasn’t seen it. And he, perhaps better than anyone else, would know.
The 2012 NFL Draft hopeful has been reportedly working out with both Tebow and Quinn up to three times a week in Denver this offseason. Renowned trainer Loren Landow has been overseeing the sessions.
“They’re really friendly,” Hansen said of Tebow and Quinn. “They have a professional relationship, and they’re really nice. Both those guys are great guys. I think every person they meet and talk to (thinks) they’re going to be standup guys.
“There is no turmoil between them. I think they have a great relationship. That’s what it seems like to me.”
If these offseason workouts continue between Tebow and Quinn, it adds to the possibility that the free agent quarterback could be retained by Denver, something we felt was likely before Quinn’s GQ comments came to light. With Mike Silver promising a follow-up column about Quinn and more evidence like this supporting Quinn’s apology, perhaps his career in Denver can be salvaged.
But it’ll be an uphill battle.
