We know who was cut — now let’s look at who’s left.

The Denver Broncos‘ 53-man roster, before more potential waiver wire transactions Sunday, breaks down like this (via DenverBroncos.com):

  • Three quarterbacks
  • Three running backs
  • One fullback
  • Five wide receivers
  • Three tight ends
  • Nine offensive linemen
  • Five safeties
  • Four cornerbacks
  • Seven linebackers
  • 10 defensive linemen
  • Three specialists

Most notable are the linebackers and wide receivers. Five wide receivers is not a lot, especially with Demaryius Thomas among them and coming off an Achilles injury (the Broncos say he has been cleared to practice this week. Still, surprising to not see more depth there). Meanwhile, seven linebackers seems a member high, but D.J. Williams and Nate Irving are both hurt.

Also worth noting (or maybe not worth noting at all) — on the team website’s depth chart, Tim Tebow is listed above Brady Quinn as the 2nd team quarterback.

On a side note, the Denver Post has an interesting blog post on how many players are left from Shanahan/McDaniels eras.

Meanwhile, the Broncos are surely scouring the waiver wire, especially with the likes of S Brandon Meriweather and WR Brandon Tate of the Patriots reportedly becoming available Saturday. Denver has the 2nd claim to any player cut from the NFL’s 31 other teams.

We’ll have a more in-depth look at the 2011 Denver Broncos’ roster following Sunday’s transactions.

Players we might want to sign (we need a corner):Lito Sheppard, Nathan Vasher, Will Allen, Brandon Underwood, Brandon Tate, Jacob Ford, Tommie Harris, Nick Hayden, re-add Ryan Harris?

  • Masaga91

    they can't put a waiver in meriweather, he's a free agent…

  • WhidbeyBronco

CB Joselio Hanson would be my 1st call!

  • areferee

Denver has 2nd claim to any player cut from the other 31 teams WHO IS NOT OTHERWISE A FREE AGENT DUE TO YEARS OF SERVICE IN THE LEAGUE!

  • http://thingsatrexdoes.tumblr.com Mike Birtwistle

Niko K2, Ronald Fields and Tom Brandstater are notable former Broncos that have been cut.

OK I thinks it's time to get rid of the 2009 schedule

Don't forget Desmond Clark.  I didn't even realize he was still playing.

  • herc_rock

    Yeah, this is right.  Unfortunately.

  • NMBronc-in-DC

    Agreed!  Second call Tommie Harris.

I was very open to giving Quinn a shot to start, as he looked good so far in camp.  Unfortunately, he looked like Chris Simms the other night.

I wonder if there was any discussion about keeping Weber in lieu of Quinn, or if they will cut him in favor of Rhett Bromar or Kellen Clemens.

Where did you see that Ryan Harris is out there?  That would be a great add.

Saw where many of McD's picks were cut… good.

This team will only go as far as their depth takes them.  IF they stay unrealisticly healthy I can see 7-9 wins.

Can't wait to see Von and Doom going all out.

  • dbroncs24/7

On nfl.com they have an official cut list : http://www.nfl.com/news/story/… we could get him for cheap now along with Tommie Harris

  • anthony33

That would add much needed, experience and depth to the O-line.
Harris and Hanson would also be upgrades!!

With us having the #2 spot in all this (while I prefer never to be there again) it does somewhat explain what helps keep the NFL relatively balanced.

  • anthony33

Agree.  Quinn was AWFUL.  The comparison to Simms is spot on.

  • broncodog87

I believe Ryan Harris had season ending back surgery.  He got cut with injury settlement.
