Tony Scheffler

Brandon Marshall isn’t the only player on the wrong side of Josh McDaniels‘ naughty-nice list in 2010. Tight end Tony Scheffler, who has seen his role reduced this season, will be benched for the Denver Broncos‘ season finale, notes Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

While Marshall will be benched because of his unwillingness to play through a hamstring injury, McDaniels cited Scheffler’s attitude in general as the reason for benching the fourth-year tight end.

We’ve been hearing rumblings for a few weeks now that Scheffler was unhappy in this system, including radio reports and a few mildly heated email exchanges with fans of Scheffler. This all but confirms it.

McDaniels is certainly asserting his will as the 2009 season comes to a close. What a start to 2010.

I think what bothers me the most about this season isn't the descent into mediocrity, it's the fact that I don't really recognize this team any longer. After the bitter dissapointment of last season, at least I could hang my hat on knowing that we had some young playmakers like Marshall, Scheffler, Royal, and Hillis. Now it appears that 3 of those 4 won't be on our roster next year, and Royal clearly isn't going to be our “Wes Welker.” I am truly afraid to see the reigns handed over to Jabar Gafney, Richard Quinn, and Knowshon Moreno. That isn't a team I can get excited about.

Here. Here. I'm not impressed with the offense AT ALL. After the NE game I thought OK they are finally coming together. Instead the team especially the offense has slid.

Hear me out its 4 of 4. they aren't “his” guys. McD wants this team to look the way he wants it. His ego is killing this team. He doesn't want any of shanny players. Okay i have no problem with that defensively. because they were the worst. but the offense was second in the NFL.

  • voltron

The Broncos did NOT have the second best offense in the NFL last year, it was 16th in the only category that matters, POINTS SCORED.

  • kerry

yeah true. by the way what is our scoring rank this year? i mean we got rid of Cutler and Shanny so it MUST be better because we have a winner like Kyle Orton right?

  • Cody

Josh McDaniels needs to bench him self. He is running all the good players out cause they were mike s. guys mike is a true coach he was all about the team while josh just wants to boost his own ego. who does he think he is next year is going to be a bad year for bronco fans with all are talent going out the door. Josh needs to leave are start caring about whats good for the team and quit tryinging to pull power trip. My vote is get rid of josh and keep marshall, scheffler, and hills the true football players and proven winners not a egotistical jackass who is hurting are team not improving it.

  • ocbronco

Yeah what kind of idiot coach wants his type of players in there? Uhhh, all good ones.

He wants people that are on board with the team and his system. Problem is he is a bit young and inexperienced and has likely mishandled a few of these situations when trying to RESOLVE them. I assure you he has NOT created any of these issues with Cutler or Marshall or Scheffler for that matter.

If we had a QB that could take a risk more than 2 times all season then you get a mush more dynamic offense. Tom Brady goes to Randy Moss all the time which spreads the defense and allows Wes Welker to do his thing.

Defenses know that Orton can't throw more than 30 yards so they sit on routs and clog the middle. That's why we ren a bunch of screens and shallow out routs. Point: We need a quarter back

I hope that McD will come out and claim his out “accountability” for blowing the playoffs if we lose and don't make it.

  • PAT BOWLEN YOU SUCK

Well pot the blame where you will for the season but it truely blongs one place and one place only at Pat Bowlens feet he made the changes and they have help so much a Pat!!! McDaniels is a joke in everyway got get along with your best players argues with plays from other team take one of the best offences in the legion and trashes that!!!!! Real winner you put in CHARGE THANKS ALOT PAT!!!

  • longtimebroncofan

I'm a long time bronco fan. I have not seen a coach who has not only made bad play calling during the season to lose games but also manage to make bad player decision to loss faith in his coaching. The only person to blame for the bronco's meltdown is the coach. If he was a good coach he would admit to his bad decisions instead of placing blame on others.

Pat Bowlen do the right thing and fire McDanials and bring in a real coach who knows how to motivate players and make the right play calling.

  • KOrton18

I'll take Kyle over Cutler… that arguments not even close.

  • coachdennis

voltron, and other McDaniels apologists, the Broncos were #2 in yards & #16 in points scored in 2008/09. this year 2009/10, under McDaniels, they've fallen to these standings according to the NFL itself: PTS 20.1 (19th); YDS 330.1 (19th); PASS Yds 213.3 (18th); RUSH Yds 116.8 (15th). clearly that is an offense in regression from previous years including in the “only category that matters” as you said. it seems as though you've never played or coached because if you did you'd know that the ONLY statistic that “matters” is the W vs. L ratio and that appears to be either the same or plus 1 and either way is a failure. you should quit drinking the Kool-Aid and soon.

  • coachdennis

and for the record it is the defense, and D-coordinator Nolan, who have made the difference this year. last year we allowed 448 pts a game (30th in NFL) and this year we are: PTS 18.1 (8th); YDS 301.1 (5th); PASS Yds 184.9 (2nd); RUSH Yds 116.1 (9th); turnover ration of +8 whereas last year we were -17. so, defense is the only reason we've been in it this year, which is not McDaniels play calling/control at all, rather Nolan. if only we had Nolan as the HC and D-Coordinator and Bates as an O-Coordinator again. how nice things would've been this year. sigh.

  • WhidbeyBronco

you're right, it's not close. Cutler.

  • WhidbeyBronco

how do u 'assure' us? Really? It's all the player's faults, not our 32 year old coach?

  • robtink242

I'm not sure if you watched last season. Moving the ball was never the problem. It was when got into the redzone where Jay through interceptions and we didn't have a running back to pound into the endzone. Remember Hillis wasn't the main guy it was Torain, Young, Hall, Pittman and who ever else. Last year offense was 2nd in yards and 16th in points. At the end off last season it was promising that it would be great. I really cant say that after this season.

  • TirdeofMcD

McD is a control freak. Period. That's no way to “lead” a team. It's all about him asserting his will. His will is not the football team. The team belgongs to Bowlen, and defacto is representing Colorado, thus our voice should be heard and acknowledged. Bowlen must be in a drunken stupor.

Its time for the McDaniels and cheese to be thrown back on the dollar menu
