Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels addressed his decision to bench Brandon Marshall Friday:

Via Frank Schwab (CSG blog):

“Teams win late in the year. If you have players that aren’t going to put that ahead of everything else, then that can certainly be detrimental to your club.

“We’re all accountable to give our very best effort to Pat Bowlen, to this organization, to this city, to the people that support us, to each other – that’s what this is about.”

More quotes after the jump.

Via Mike Klis (Denver Post):

“There’s a lot of players that play with things that are more difficult to play with than what he has.”

Via Lindsay Jones (twitter):

“Our word for the week has been accountability. We’re looking to put the 45 guys on the field on Sun that want to play together. We talked about it as a squad on Wednesday that that’s what’s going to happen this week.”

And anyone that showed any indifference to that, we’ll play without them, and we’ll play well anyway.”

I don't get it. Thing's were looking good for Brandon and his future with Denver…Now…not so much.

Looks like “Probowl” Marshall thinks he is too good to play…. “Hello you tool” the team is the reason you got there! He still has a chance to go to the playoffs… Now he is going to get traded to a crappy team so we can move up in the draft.. guess thats why our name is the Denver Broncos and not the Brandon “Diva” Marshall's…. FrankieP i bleed orange and blue put me in at Wideout

Here's an out of the box thought to the Marshall situation. Maybe this conflict is staged through the media so that the Chiefs wont gameplan for Marshall. Maybe he will end up playing afterall. Denver obviously needs him to win vs KC Sunday. Marshall has always played KC very well.

    right.

I have another theriory, crazy as it sounds, I think it is McD is setting Marshall because he is not getting the production out of the other receivers, Eddie Royal for one. Maybe this is a test for Royal, Maybe if Royal doesn't produce on Sunday, Maybe he'll be looking for a new home. And if he does have a big game then Marshall the free agent might not be inclined to go anywhere or maybe the Lions could use him or some 5 win team who knows. McD is either really smart or so hardheaded with a large ego, that benching Marshall on a must win game is totally stupid, I hope it is the former because we don't need another 1970's or 80's lame coach.

After watching the last two soap operas, err, uhh, Broncos meltdown seasons, it is official, I don't have to stay off the slopes on Sundays to watch this crap any more. I knew Shanahan was not going to get it done as long as he had control over personnel decisions, but I had no idea his replacement could be so, well, err, uhh, not so good. Know what I mean?

I have been a fan of this team since 1977 and have endured alot of punishment through the years living in Califorina. The superbowl loss to the 49'ers was especially dificult , but living close to San Diego and Oakland makes it even harder when we lose to them. Any bronco fan living outside of Colorado knows how much harder it is being a fan. Having said this I'am without a doubt very frustrated by the broncos late season colapses and and tired of the excuses I keep hearing. The bottom line is we need to start winning again with some consistancy.

I agree simon, i live 5 minutes from candlestick and 30 min from oakland. i cant believe that no matter who wears the jersey and and who calls the plays we start fast, stumble hard, give a glimmer of hope late only to nose dive crash short of the playoffs. the 80's and early 90's were tough in late jan but not in december. perhaps it's the curse of bearded jake.

  • Broncos Fan since 1960.

Marshall certainly thinks he is something special and he will probably get what he deserves. Maybe here or some other team, but it will come back to bite him someday.
As far as Josh McDaniels, who is a young intelligent football mind or Bowlen wouldn't have hired him, his immaturity as a leader is painfully obvious. He is a control freak and has to have everything and everyone bow to his every command. He can get rid of Marshall and Scheffler, but there will always be someone to take there place no matter how many of your “own guys” you bring in!

  • Simon

You might be right about the bearded jake curse kia, because it is really strange how we lose the final three games these last two seasons with two different head coaches.

  • Simon

The chargers losing again in the playoffs is right now the best thing next to the broncos winning.
