New Denver Broncos OL Russ Hochstein

New Denver Broncos OL Russ Hochstein

The wheeling and dealing continues at Dove Valley. Josh McDaniels and company have made another move for a New England Patriot, this time trading a late 2010 draft pick for OL Russ Hochstein, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports via Twitter.

Schefter lists Hochstein as an OT, but Hochstein has no starts at that position. He has played just about everywhere else, though. In his seven years with the Patriots, Hochstein has started 12 games at guard, 10 games at center, two games at fullback and one game at tight end. This versatility seems to be a running theme with this Patriots migration – the Broncos traded with the Pats for DL Le Kevin Smith last week, who has experience at DE and NT, and added former Pats DB Antwain Spann Monday, who saw time at safety, cornerback and special teams.

The offensive line depth was my biggest concern after I left camp and watched the preseason games. This is a good move by the Broncos, and Hochstein will be a solid contributor and likely make the team. Once the Broncos announce the move we’ll update this post with the press release and news of who was released.
