Josh McDaniels has been hired as the 12th Head Coach in Denver Broncos history.

Josh McDaniels has been hired as the 12th Head Coach in Denver Broncos history.

The Denver Broncos have just announced that they will introduce Josh McDaniels as Head Coach during a press conference set for 5:00 P.M. Monday. Naturally, we’ll cover the event live blog style.

Will he announce his defensive coordinator? Will he discuss the future of the offensive coaching staff, including passing game coordinator Jeremy Bates? Be sure to check back then. Press release below.

BRONCOS TO INTRODUCE JOSH McDANIELS AS HEAD COACH

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Monday will introduce Josh McDaniels as head coach at a 5 p.m. MST press conference at their training facility, President/CEO Pat Bowlen announced.

The 32-year-old McDaniels has agreed to a four-year contract to become the 12th head coach in Broncos history.

McDaniels spent the last eight seasons (2001-08) on the coaching staff of the New England Patriots, helping the franchise win three Super Bowls, four AFC championships and six division titles en route to posting the NFL’s best overall record (111-34 / .766) during that time. He was the Patriots’ offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach during the previous three years (2006-08), directing an offense that led the NFL in points per game (28.8) while ranking second in the league in yards per game (370.8) and third in fewest turnovers (63) over that stretch.

McDaniels worked as New England’s quarterbacks coach from 2004-05 after serving as a coaching assistant for the club from 2002-03 and as a personnel assistant/coaching assistant in 2001. His coaching career began in 1999 as a graduate assistant at Michigan State University.

Despite a season-ending injury to starting quarterback Tom Brady in Week 1, New England’s 2008 offense finished the year with an NFL-best 356 first downs and ranked fifth in the league in yards per game (365.4) under McDaniels. His coaching helped backup quarterback Matt Cassel, who became a starter for the first time since high school, total the eighth-most passing yards (3,693) in the league.

In 2007, McDaniels coached on a Patriots team that was the first in NFL history to post a 16-0 regular-season record and advanced to Super Bowl XLII. McDaniels’ offense was one of the most productive in NFL history with the Patriots setting league records for points scored (589 / 36.8 ppg.) and touchdowns (75). Individually, Brady set an NFL single-season record for touchdown passes (50) to earn MVP honors while wide receiver Randy Moss caught the most touchdowns (23) for a season in league annals.

The Patriots won Super Bowls with McDaniels on their staff during the 2001 (XXXVI), ’03 (XXXVIII) and ’04 (XXXIX) seasons.

McDaniels played quarterback and wide receiver at John Carroll University (University Heights, Ohio) from 1995-98 after finishing his prep career at Canton McKinley High School (Canton, Ohio).

Born on April 22, 1976, in Barberton, Ohio, McDaniels and his wife, Laura, have one son, Jack Thomas, and one daughter, Maddie.

  • MIAbronco

i hope that when i turn 32 can be the coach of thr broncos

  • kerry

i can see how this is gonna unfold. he is so young so he will walk to the podium sucking his thumb and holding his blankie in the other hand asking for a happy meal. why did we hire this guy again?

  • Boisebroncoguy

    Because of the Mcdonalds sponsorship.

  • http://www.cosmicweather.com Kelly in Carolina

Awesome! When I play Madden I do the fantasy draft and go all out for defensive young talent and a running game, and pick receivers like Royal, and Desean Jackson, who are rated 77 or so, and end up with a crappy QB and I put all my rookies in and sim all the games, but in the first offseason, I fire Shannahan and go get Josh McDaniels and draft the best rookie quarterback I can find and commit to developing him with McDanials at the helm, after one year he jumps into the mid 80s rating, then by year two he is into the 90’s, and we make a superbowl run…but you also need a great defensive coordinator. So toady when I saw this, after watching Rivers get slammed to the ground by Pittsburgh last night I was super psyched! Cutler is going to be amazing next year, and he’ll eliminate over half of his unwise throws and pics.

  • T-Money

I have mixed feelings. I wish we took another look at Scuba Steve. Maybe we can lure him in as DC with a shiny penny.

  • KMA

Nolan is DC according to Adam Schefter… next question.. who is GM ???
Anybody have Defensive stats link for Nolan?

  • ChrisPatsFan

Yo you Bronco fans need to be grateful ur Getting Josh McDaniels he is the best offensive Coordinator in the NFL unlike your Offensive Coordinator His team didnt collaspe down the strecth with a INT throwing Quaterback. No he was to busy having the greatest three year stretch as an Offensive Coordinator(41-10)record over 125 TD’s Scored. So if you wanna piss and moan about Josh please send him back to New England where we’ve won Super Bowls this decade. Were not living in the past like Denver does so move on and shut up and take Josh.

  • kerry

Nolan is the D-coordinator!!! nobody else! not Capers not Spagnuolo.

  • Bucky

oh i am soooooo happy, another guy Kerry hates. Miracles real do happen!! :-)

  • Dakota fan

KMA- the only d-stats I’ve seen on Nolan was by one of the guys on last night’s post, and that only had to do with where he’s coached and during what years. I’d say stay tuned- someone will find them within a few hours.

Guess I’m a glass half full guy. I’ll give McDaniels a shot and see what he’s got to offer. I thought the Ravens going with John Harbaugh was a risky move, but he seems to be doing okay.

    Time will tell.

  • AKscott

haha bucky.. i think the only pre req for that is to be the HC of the broncos

  • ChrisPatsFan

Spagnuolo Doesnt want another D Coordinator Job he wants to be head coach plus Josh Mcdaniels run the 3-4 defense not the 4-3 which is what Spagnuolo runs.

  • ChrisPatsFan

A Please send McDaniels back to New England so he can win somemore Super Bowl titles

  • kerry

    ChrisPatsfan:

yeah you mean CHEAT your way to some more Super Bowls. is it just coincidence when you guys finally got caught cheating you lost the SB??? no i dont think that is coincidence at all.

  • AKscott

this is what i could find.. i only dug as far as points allowed by the team defense, if someone wants to further look at the stats be my guest. Also, i only looked at Nolan in the years as the DC.. not the LB coach here or HC in SF

    ’93 nyg- #1 defense
    ’94 nyg- #8 defense
    ’95 nyg- #16 defense
    ’96 nyg- #10 defense
    ’97 was- #9 defense
    ’98 was- #28 defense
    ’99 was- #24 defense
    ’00 nyj- #13 defense
    ’02 bal- #20 defense
    ’03 bal- #6 defense
    ’04 bal- #6 defense

Again, thats just based off points allowed. If i remember right wasnt the ’02 year when ray lewis was out basically all year? just some food for thought.. hopefully someone finds this usefull

  • ChrisPatsFan

We didnt need to cheat to 16-0 we didnt need to cheat to hang 41 points on ur brocos this season. Ive seen the all the tapes and none of them were of the Panthers,Rams, or Eagles who we all beat so how about you find out the facts before u run ur mouth off Genius. We lost to the Giants because they did something no one else did thats pressure Tom Brady. Denver will need to CHEAT to win another Super Bowl without John Elway. Denver is so far up Elway’s ass anyway. We lose Tom Brady who is better than Elway and still go 11-5 whats ur excuse?

  • AKscott

This is where i compiled that info from..

    http://www.databasefootball.com/leagues/leagueyear.htm?lg=nfl&yr=2004

from there you can navigate to any year you want to..

  • ChrisPatsFan

A Kerry i guess i shut ur ass up

  • pigmeat

it was a sad day in boltville,

but then i remembered that we still have the raiders, chiefs, and especially the donkeys to kick around again next yr.

we have the 16th pick. an off season to get lt,gates, and merriman healthy.

my day got even brighter when i heard strategy to replace the RAT.
mcnobody?? ru kidding?? hahahaha. just the latest team thats going to find out who the real genius in NE is. there is only one belichick/genius, and he still coaches the pats.

even better is dc. nolan..even more hahahahahahahahaaah he stinks. crappy, passive D ..ask 49er fans.

i cant believe thats your strategy. you have to be delusional to think those two are going to be better than the RAT. i would take Rat anyday.

good luck with that schedule next yr. donkeys will be lucky to finish 3rd in the division…

09 is over before it starts for donk’s crappy fans. i can go to lunch with a smile on my face
p.s. Pioli is going to the chiefshahahahahahaha

  • jchase8410

Tom Brady is better than Elway???? Are you high? You must be if you believe that. The Giants beat the pats because they got pressure on Brady. He is basically useless outside of the pocket. Elway made plays with his legs and arms, avoiding the rush to get the ball downfield. Tom Brady is a great QB, but better than Elway is a joke!

  • ChrisPatsFan

Yea Mcdaniels wasnt he the guy responsible 4 Knocking the Chargers out of the Playoff for back to back years. I think he is.

  • ChrisPatsFan

Look at the Rings on his Fingers i count 3 Elway better than Brady ur high of Elways ass that you cant see that Brady is Better. Wow a 1st round pick living up to expectations theres a stunner not like a 6th round pick coming from nothing to the best QB possibly in Nfl History. Elways not even better than P. Manning who Brady is better than.

  • AKscott

manmeat, you’re gonna need a time machine to get those three chumps ready for next year.. not an offseason. Look at the recent history of 30 yrd old runningbacks.. he just screams S.Alexander if you ask me. Gates has been dinged up 2 yrs straight and Merriman just may find out how tough it is for your body to recover without roids.
When its all said and done you won the AFC West and you get props for that.. but also you get Norv another year as head coach to run your paper tiger team into the ground.. in the long run who wins here???

  • ChrisPatsFan

Wow Poor Chargers New England misses the playoffs and you still cant win a Super Bowl how sad it is to be a bunch of soory overrated losers

  • pigmeat

barring the pats comment, kerry seems to be the only one of you oxygen deprived mountain yokels with a little common sense. good thing bowlen didnt offer him a job

  • SivNiz

Why do opposing teams fans come to this site and bash the Broncos? Is your life really that boring? I imagine so and I feel sorry for you.

  • ChrisPatsFan

Im not bashing the Broncos i’m standing up for Josh Mcdaniels Ur team bashes itself when it goes on the field and plays.

  • AKscott

A team that began the season with Norv freakin Turner and Ted Cotrell giving us a lecture on common sense..
lmfao.. hows that best team on paper superbowl trophy looking?

  • jchase8410

But I am actually stoked with McD. I now he is going to take a really good offense in Denver and make it Great. He is young, but I don’t see that as being much of a problem He obviously knows the game, has worked in a personnel role, as well as a defensive coach. I have a great feeling about the McBroncos in 09. Now I’m just waiting to see who they pick up in the draft

  • SivNiz

Should your name be ChrisMcDanielsFan then? Why do I see several commnets that you’ve posted about the pats winning super bowls, Brady’s rings, etc.?

  • Boisebroncoguy

Chargers’ fans have nothing else to do except try and figure out how many toes it takes to count the number of Super Bowl wins they have.

  • ChrisPatsFan

Hey Patriots Greatness just writes itself by the way Bronco fan hows obscurity treating u?

  • T-Money

ChirsPatsFan… Don’t you have school today??? Why don’t you run along and play with you’re little friends and take your bronco bashing, patriot praising, hubris attitude with you.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ben

Hey, losers hoe about you go to your own sorry blogs so you can cry about how the chargers lost and the pats didnt even make the playoffs, as far as im concerned the pats are going to make the worst mistake of the offseason giving a backup qb 12 million dollars to stay put. If tom brady really is better than Elway they wouldnt need to give Cassell that type of money. And as for you pigmeat, the chargers a bunch of little biches that cry about a bad call for 15 weeks, plus you have no room to even talk your sorry franchise has never even won a title, plus your coach could be one of the worst generals ive evr seen!

  • pigmeat

unlike bronco/ pat fans i make no excuses. we got beat. bolts need better safeties, ilbs, and an ort. that being said merriman suspension was in 06. i seem to remember him having a pretty good 07. lt when healthy is still a stud, or did you forget how stupid he made the broncos d. look. gates? come on!!

i never said norv. is the best hc, but he seems to be pretty good a beating your teams ass. no disputing that!!

chrispatsfan, the pats beat us not mcnobody. how many sbs did pats win with mcnobody as oc? that would be a big fat nada

by the way bronco/pat fans if i remember correctly the bolts beat both of your asses this year, and made to the playoffs while your teams watched at home.

living vicariously through other teams how pathetic

  • ChrisPatsFan

Wow the exact response i would expect from minscule perpetual losers like Bronco Fans. They only Franchised Cassel so they could trade him for draft picks a why let talent go unless u cant get something for him. Are u jealous the we continue to win with 6th and 7th round qb picks and you cant win with first round QB’s. How sad.

  • Boisebroncoguy

Patsfan – Except for this year, Denver is the only team in the NFL that has owned the Patriots. I expect that to continue now more than ever. See ya on the field!

  • kerry

    Chrispatsfan:

you didnt shut anything up. its been proven you guys cheated your asses off to win the 3 SB’s. get caught cheating and you lose. simple as that. doesnt matter if you went 16-0. the REAL stat you seem to be omitting is the 18-1 record of that year. the SB LOSS. couldnt cheat to win so you lost. dont cry because you got caught cheating and havent done anything since.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ben

Hey, Pigmeat when you when a super bowl come back here and talk, otherwise your just another crappy nfl team just like the bills and bengals (who havent won a title yet)

  • ChrisPatsFan

deadmeat how many Super Bowls did bolts win period oh that right a big fat NADA. I gaurantee McDaniels and the Broncos will win a Super Bowl before the Bolts will. once again How sad!!!

  • jdk.chem

Now that the Dolts are done meatpuppet can go back to peddling his sister on Hill street in Oceandump.

  • AKscott

Your the one talking about your pathetic best 8-8 team of all time.. you brought up the “next year we’ll be healthy” crap.. you know it aint happenin’. LT is an injury prone crybaby on the downside of his career.. too bad he wasted it in SD. Gates cant ever get healthy.. he’ll be productive probably, but not the gates you sit in the tub and tug yourself to. Roidiman is broken.. i’d bet the farm this is the first of many injuries.. guess time will tell
Better hope Sproles doesnt “bolt” or you’ll see just how useless LT really is.

  • Candide

Here’s hoping Josh brings ALL those cheating tricks Bellicheat taught him over the last few years and leaves nothing back there in Beantown. Broncos 11-5 next year and Beantown Dudes 5-11.

  • Dakota fan

Ouch- this blog is not for the weak sisters. Apparently today, it’s a sounding board for angry opposing fans.

Out of the 7 candidates they interviewed, I could have cared less who they chose. If they start chalking up the Ws, all of Broncos nation will love ’em and will quickly forget who they originally wanted as head coach. Take a deep breath and see what this guy can do.

  • ChrisPatsFan

When you see the tapes come back at me. By the way how can we use the tapes to Cheat during the game dumbass. oh thats right u cants there are only 2 teams on the tapes Miami and Pittsburgh i forgot when we played them in the Super Bowl oh thats right we didnt. Once again get ur facts straight Kerry.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ben

Pats fan, no im not really jealous, but im pretty sure you are now that your ace of an oc will be leading cutler to 50 touchdowns and 4000 yards a year, while the pats defense slowly crumbles due to their old age.

  • T-Money

The best part of the Blog is that it has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE POST

  • ChrisPatsFan

Wow recording hand signals i could do the same with my DVR in my house yea thats really cheating.

  • pigmeat

    boise,
except for this yr. hahahah 41-7 with a backup qb, and no secondary.

i used to think raider fans lived in the past!!! donkey fans have become the cub fans of the nfl. yeah you won sbs…when i was in middle schoolhahaha.. i graduate with my b.a. this spring!! thats alot of wait till next years!!

fans of a team that blew a 3 game lead with 3 to go, lost the game for the division title by 31, was repeatedly beat by 20+ throughout the season, and got got their asses handed to them by the raiders at home…have a lot of balls to call anyone losers…MORONS

  • ChrisPatsFan

hey Ben Josh is good but hes no Miracle worker which is what u will need to keep Jay Cutler from throwing 20 Ints first. our Defense is old but decent ur defense is young and garbage yea u should really talk.
