Josh McDaniels has been hired as the 12th Head Coach in Denver Broncos history.

The Denver Broncos have just announced that they will introduce Josh McDaniels as Head Coach during a press conference set for 5:00 P.M. Monday. Naturally, we’ll cover the event live blog style.

Will he announce his defensive coordinator? Will he discuss the future of the offensive coaching staff, including passing game coordinator Jeremy Bates? Be sure to check back then. Press release below.

BRONCOS TO INTRODUCE JOSH McDANIELS AS HEAD COACH

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Monday will introduce Josh McDaniels as head coach at a 5 p.m. MST press conference at their training facility, President/CEO Pat Bowlen announced.

The 32-year-old McDaniels has agreed to a four-year contract to become the 12th head coach in Broncos history.

McDaniels spent the last eight seasons (2001-08) on the coaching staff of the New England Patriots, helping the franchise win three Super Bowls, four AFC championships and six division titles en route to posting the NFL’s best overall record (111-34 / .766) during that time. He was the Patriots’ offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach during the previous three years (2006-08), directing an offense that led the NFL in points per game (28.8) while ranking second in the league in yards per game (370.8) and third in fewest turnovers (63) over that stretch.

McDaniels worked as New England’s quarterbacks coach from 2004-05 after serving as a coaching assistant for the club from 2002-03 and as a personnel assistant/coaching assistant in 2001. His coaching career began in 1999 as a graduate assistant at Michigan State University.

Despite a season-ending injury to starting quarterback Tom Brady in Week 1, New England’s 2008 offense finished the year with an NFL-best 356 first downs and ranked fifth in the league in yards per game (365.4) under McDaniels. His coaching helped backup quarterback Matt Cassel, who became a starter for the first time since high school, total the eighth-most passing yards (3,693) in the league.

In 2007, McDaniels coached on a Patriots team that was the first in NFL history to post a 16-0 regular-season record and advanced to Super Bowl XLII. McDaniels’ offense was one of the most productive in NFL history with the Patriots setting league records for points scored (589 / 36.8 ppg.) and touchdowns (75). Individually, Brady set an NFL single-season record for touchdown passes (50) to earn MVP honors while wide receiver Randy Moss caught the most touchdowns (23) for a season in league annals.

The Patriots won Super Bowls with McDaniels on their staff during the 2001 (XXXVI), ’03 (XXXVIII) and ’04 (XXXIX) seasons.

McDaniels played quarterback and wide receiver at John Carroll University (University Heights, Ohio) from 1995-98 after finishing his prep career at Canton McKinley High School (Canton, Ohio).

Born on April 22, 1976, in Barberton, Ohio, McDaniels and his wife, Laura, have one son, Jack Thomas, and one daughter, Maddie.

The truth of the matter is that all three teams are now sitting at home and none of us will be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy so what difference does it make how much smack we talk about what. The fan of the first team out of SD, DEN, and NE to win the next trophy can come on here and talk smack and it will actually mean something. I am a Broncos fan, and it sucks missing the playoffs, and we need to get better, but none of the teams we are debating are world champions.

  • OC Bronco

    ChrisPatsFan-
Thanks for the Coordinator. I have nothing bad to say about the Pats. You have become the jewel of the nfl and you guys are right, we live in the past and were the jewel in the 90’s. BUT……
We took our lumps this year and got our coach fired.
However Chris Pat Fan Denver has historically had no issue with beating Brady or NE. That won’t change as we now have the best Coordinator Bellicheck has produced. I especially loved going in to New England with Jake Plummer as our QB and whooping that ass. How sweet that was.
PigVomit- I’m in SoCal as well and you know that going back even 5 years and home games at Qualcomm were away games for the Chargers as over 50% of the fans were always from the visiting team. You have a good couple of years and everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Your sorry team had to make a deal with the city to buy up all the extra tickets because you couldn’t even sell out!! How pathetic and embarrassing! Please join our blog as often as you want. I love how pathetic and sad you all are in Charger nation. As your demise begins next year with the toughest schedule in football you will lose fan after fairweather fan and then poooof! Your team will move to LA/City of Industry or somewhere else! But I saved the best for last – you have no other choice than to root for Philip Rivers. I love it. Just what you deserve!
Here’s to the future of the Bronco franchise….. But unlike Charger fans we are still proud of our past!

  • Kawike

This entire blog reminded me of trench warfare in WWI. A bunch of people fighting without making any headway.

  • pigmeat

    ocbronco,
jc at least get some of your facts straight, or does facts matter??
we have same schedule other than broncos have to face the brady/pats, and colts. we get fins, titans:) i ll take that every yr.

gl with giants, cowboys, eagles, steelers, colts, ravens, pats plus us twice(52-21hahaha)… with a new staff..WOW. you have to be drinkin the strong Koolaid to find 7 wins in there..gl hahaha. we will be just fine, and you will be looking at our backside as usual

  • pigmeat

oc, same old bs made up #s. “5 yrs ago..50% were always opposing team fans” ?? how do you know ? did you go to every game? did you take a census? or is it your fantasy bs. i have actually went to those games, and while sd has always been transitory( because everyone wants to live here) i would say only the raiders in the (past) had a sizable %. i unlike you oc live in reality. peddle your made up shit somewhere else.

yeah iam rivers fan dude plays in the afc. championship a week after tearing his acl. he has taken his team to the playoffs every year he has started. how many playoff games cutless started?? thats what i thought.

…dude trying to be a nice guy let my guard down, and thats what happens.

anytime you want to start comparing city’s attributes iam more than ready

  • pigmeat

oc, more i look at it the reamining 7: are skins, browns, bengals, raiders, chiefs2x. you guys usually lose at least once to raiders/chiefs., and with palmer back no guarantee vs bengals. you will be underdog in top 9 games..maybe 2/3 upsets, and maybe 5 out of 7 against shitty teams.

broncos will be very lucky to go .500 nxt yr

  • BroncoinVA9986

pig meat that may be enough to win this division next year. With a new coach you have to set different standards. You are right we may very well be lucky to go .500 next year God help us that we win at least nine. I think it going to be a decent year next year. atleast not an 0-16 like the LIONWS

  • Steven

We may be lucky to go 8-8 next year…you WERE LUCKY to go 8-8 this year. Lt is past his prime. San diego will be 6-10 next year. Raiders may finish better then them.

  • Patrick

All that matters are Super Bowls. The Broncos have been to six, winning two. The Patriots have been to six, they’ve won three. Over the last ten years the Patriots have been a better team than the Broncos, not head to head, but they obviously have a right to brag. I’m proud to have their offensive coordinator. The Chargers, well the Chargers have been to ONE Super Bowl. ONE. THEY WILL NEVER WIN THE SUPER BOWL. Pigmeat- quick question…at what point did you decide, screw it, I’m gonna be a fan of a team that WILL NEVER WIN A SUPER BOWL? The closest you’ve came is STAN HUMPHRIES. You have NEVER been good and you ain’t good now! What is your franchise’s defining moment…drafting Junior Seau? Hearing how great Dan Fouts was from your grandpa? Ryan Leaf being restrained from a reporter? Welcome back Piggy I thought you wouldn’t retort after having your ass handed to you and taking the couch cushion next to us to watch the rest of the postseason! I could smell a Super Bowl-less loser the minute I clicked on the blog. PatFan, just cuz I respect your team doesn’t mean I like them. Your QB is the Lance Bass of the NFL its like c’mon out gay! When he gets married will his name changed to Buchden?

And last but not least, in regards to my FAVORITE QUESTION OF THE DAY:

kerry { 01.12.09 at Mon Jan 12 10:04 }) i can see how this is gonna unfold. he is so young so he will walk to the podium sucking his thumb and holding his blankie in the other hand asking for a happy meal. why did we hire this guy again?

WE HIRED THIS GUY BECAUSE OUR LAST COACH WASN’T GOOD ENOUGH FOR GUYS LIKE YOU KERRY!

    THANKS FOR THE COACH GAY!

I better stop typing I’m drunk off of whatever that was McDaniel’s was serving at the presser…..

Chargers: Worst team in the AFC West
    Super Bowl titles:
    Raiders: 3
    Broncos: 2
    Chiefs: 1
    Chargers:0

Pigmeat: Based on the only stat that matters, your mighty Bolts are the worst team in the AFC West. Come talk when you have a Lombardi Trophy on display. Until then, keep your mouth shut when grown men are talking.

or if you insist we could see how tough you really are. it would give me great pleasure if you took me up on my offer

  • pigmeat

broncoholic- just prayed that you live in socal, or fly in for games..always wanted to meet internet tough guy.

according to your ass-backward logic the 9’ers despite not doing shit since their last sb win in the mid 90’s would be the best football team because they are perfect 5-0 in sb.

or even better pittsburg pirates would be 4th best team in baseball with 5 ws rings.. but none since 1979!!

??i guess that makes perfect sense to a yokel, but i am having a hard time with that.

as far as your sb’ s.. credit is deserved for the 2 wins. as for the first 4 appearances: 90″ 55-10 L
    88″ 42-10 L
    87″ 39-20 L
    78″ 27-10 L

ru kidding..nice representin. the broncos were the laughingstock of the afc. what, were they on the take? the nfc couldnt wait to play the broncos in the SB.hahaha

damn wish i was old enough to remember those beatdowns.

it must be sad to have to always look back in time to the good ole days!
i bet you are one of those 50+ yr old guys going to nightclubs tryin to score with the chicks in their 20’s. what a sad,sad life!!

    Pigmeat –

This isn’t a dating site stop soliciting your email out… and stop trying to personally offend other readers.

  • broncoNM

The jerk store called…They are running out of you.

  • CB123

The only “internet tough guy,” seems to be manbearpig. I take him as one to write “for a good time email me” on a bathroom stall, in a seedy part of SD, from the way he’s making himself out in these comments.

I thought you said a while ago, that you won’t come back to read any of this anymore? I mean really, why can’t SD fans stick to something (like a team) for once? Pathetic… :P

Ok, but in all seriousness, how can you expect people to be civil with you, when you come in blurting out about donkeys this and donkeys that? Of course it’s going to get personal. Besides, it’s possible some read your first couple of smack talk messages, and responded to those. Without seeing you apologizing later down in the comments. So just chilllll

  • Broncoholic

Pigmeat: My post wasn’t attacking you personally (like your response was to me). I was attacking your sorry excuse for a franchise that you root for. Your overall point was well taken however, therefor let me amend my post:

Chargers: Worst franchise in the AFC West
    Super Bowl titles:
    Raiders: 3
    Broncos: 2
    Chiefs: 1
    Chargers:0

Pigmeat: Based on the only stat that matters, your mighty Bolts are the worst franchise in the AFC West.

Your franchise is the laughing stock of the AFC West. Every team that your franchise has ever fielded have been losers.

    Rumor………. Shanahan interviews with Raiders?

Meet me @ the Qualcomm bathroom stalls, I’ll be the one in the powder blue thong…. — Pigmeat

I guess the car was already burnt… I need quit posting on this topic

i come on here because i like the give and take that sports allow for. iam on bolt site as well, but its pretty hard to have a lively debate amongst the choir.

in hindsite i was over the top in my response to broncoholic. i don’ t mind if you say iam in idiot, bolts suck, rivers is a punk blahablah. i do take it personally when iam told to STFU. i just wanted to make it very clear that if anyone wanted to actually make me shut up, i would be happy to give them the opportunity. that being said i was out of line.

you won, its not worth the time. from here on out i will leave the trash talking to the players

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Insulting other commenters is not allowed, period. Please be aware of our comments policy. Calling Rivers a douche (or other players), on the other hand, is totally and completely acceptable.

  • Broncoholic

Pigmeat: I’m sorry for the shut your mouth comment. Your opinion, while not very popular on this site, is still your opinion & you have every right to express it here. But the fact still remains: the Chargers are the worst franchise in the AFC West based on the only stat that matters.

  • CJ

why doesnt this pigmeat guy get a life and go to a chargers website! how many broncos fans go to a chargers site!
