Why Try? F*** the Chargers, That’s Why

I was as upset, angry, disappointed, sad, confused, and just plain pissed at Sunday’s 23-30 loss to the Bills as any of you out there. How the Broncos can collapse like they have the past two weeks is beyond me.

It’s hard to even care about the team after such an emotional letdown. The Broncos were up 13-0 in the second quarter against a team boasting a 1-7 record in their past 8 games. Suddenly, Buffalo’s offense could not be stopped. They scored 30 points to our 10 and the Broncos didn’t do their part on a freezing cold “Fan Appreciation Day.”

In response, most fans have thrown in the towel. Going into San Diego and beating the Chargers in their stadium, at face value, seems like an insurmountable task. It’s a match against two teams going in different directions.

But I awoke this morning with a renewed vigor. A renewed focus. The Denver Broncos will go into San Diego and beat the Chargers on their own turf and keep the AFC West lead they’ve held all 16 weeks this season. And you know why you should care?

F*** the Chargers, that’s why.

F*** San Diego’s tired excuse of Ed Hochuli blowing a whistle, and then beat ’em anyway.

F*** San Diego’s fair weather fans and their pathetic blackout extensions.

F*** San Diego’s whiny-as-hell superstar running back and his performance-hindering toe injury.

F*** San Diego’s loud mouth quarterback, for all the Broncos players and NFL fans he’s ever disrespected by pointing his mouth in their direction.

F*** San Diego’s overrated defense that was exposed this year as a one-man wrecking crew.

F*** San Diego’s 7-8 record that would win the AFC West at .500 with a win. This division deserves better, and if the Broncos win, they’ll give it a winner at 9-7.

F*** San Diego’s wins over the Chiefs and Raiders that give them the tiebreaker edge in the division while the Broncos beat better teams in the Saints and Falcons instead.

F*** the Chargers.

If you can’t scream for the Broncos after yesterday’s game, scream for the opponent of the most undeserving-but-could-be-a-playoff team in the NFL. The Chargers beat the Raiders and the crumbling Bucs to get back in the mix. They don’t deserve this.

So it comes down to this – the winner of this game wins the AFC West Championship and a home playoff game. There isn’t a Broncos fan out there who wouldn’t have jumped at this opportunity four months ago. The Broncos have been the better team for 16 weeks this season. We have one more week to put the nail in coffin. Let’s get it done.

Go Broncos! F*** the Chargers!

    Boston…your argument is riddled with holes. Flacco and Big Ben both have defenses that can bail out the offense on every series…the Seahawks, their record speaks for itself. Peyton Manning didn’t have Addai for much of the season, but he had Rhodes every week…a solid backup that was there every week. Cutler had a new back every week. With zero threat of a running game, defense could drop back as many defenders as they wanted and rush their Linemen without worrying about gap responsibility. With all of this, the broncos have won more games than the chargers thus far, and Cutler’s stats are pretty close to Rivers’ except he has thrown for more yards, and won more games. Rivers had a running threat, giving him a better opportunity to make throws against fewer defensive backs by freezing the linebackers. I guarantee that if the Broncos had a running threat throughout the season, he would far eclipse Rivers’ stats.

    jchase, I hate to call you out, but your argument is riddled with holes as well. If Rivers had a running threat, then why do the Charger have the 28th ranked rushing offense, and the Broncos have the 12th? The Broncos also have more rushing TD’s than the Chargers. Anyone who has actually watched the Chargers this year knows that they aren’t stacking the box against LT anymore, and he is definitely not the threat of days gone by.

    Then again, I guess if my team was choking the season away thanks to my turnover prone QB, I would be trying to justify it any way I could as well. Coming from a Chargers fan, calling another QB turnover prone says a lot too (and yes, you can look it up, Cutler does have more TO’s than Rivers throughout their careers).

    jchase, god almighty enough with the excuses!! calling rhodes a solid backup?? anyone cut by the raiders is not a solid anything. as far stats go rivers has a far superior td/int ratio ..quit being such a homer. if you are going to make a point dont be blind to the facts .

    fyi: w-l most important stat:

    cutlers overall record 17-19
    rivers overall record 32-15

    cutler vs bolts 1-3

    rivers vs broncos 4-1

    w/l s are what matter and rivers kills cutler in that category..but iam sure you have an excuse for that as well.

    the bottom line the broncos have been an avg team since elway retired get over it!! quit being like your sisterteam the raiders, and living in the past.

    jchase, cutler has very good wrs,te,and oline. ben had no rbs,horrible o-line,avg wrs, hella tough schedule, and still only lose 4. again any team that loses at home to the raiders by 21 shouldnt be in playoffs!!!

    I thank you for the entertainment – that was awesome. Here are my responses to each section that incredibly unintelligent post:

    How could that be beyond you? The Broncos are the most overrated team in the NFL. That’s why they are 4-11 against the spread this year. Their wins vs the jets and falcons make people forget how bad their defense is. Take away an ed hochuli whistle, a non call in which winborn lined up about 20 yards offside, and a huge winslow meltdown, and the broncos are at 5-10. I wont even mention some of their other games. The chargers, on the other hand, are about a combined 60 seconds (full of freak plays and bad calls) away from being 12-3. Bottom line, the broncos are perhaps the worst 8-7 team in the history of the NFL, while the chargers are perhaps the best 7-8 team in the history of the NFL, and this will be exposed on national TV this sunday.

    It’s not an emotional meltdown – the broncos are just that bad. And they couldnt stop the buffalo offense because the bronco defense is the most atrocious thing I’ve ever witnessed.

    Good. It IS an insurmountable task. No sense in having any false hope.

    What a very intelligent argument. The broncos are going into SD and winning b/c…..”F*** the chargers!” And I think we all realize the series of extraordinary events that have taken place throughout the season that have allowed such a crappy team to hold the AFC West for “all 16 weeks this season”.

    I don’t know what you mean by, “and then beat em anyway”. Of course you guys beat us after that, you were given a free pass.

    To refresh your memory – 2nd down…cutler rolls out to the right and is about to throw into double coverage. Trying to stop himself from throwing an INT, the ball slips out of his hands and goes BACKWARDS. Now, it was clearly a fumble, as the ball slipped out of his hands when his arm was moving backward. But even if he did THROW it, it doesn’t matter, because the ball went BACKWARDS so it’s still a live ball, of course. Tim Dobbins of SD runs up and is about to scoop the ball up – Hochuli, because he had the Broncos at +1, blows his whistle. He ruled it an incomplete pass – HAHAHAHHAHA.

    The chargers challenged, and Hochuli overturned the incomplete pass to a fumble, but b/c he blew the whistle a split second before dobbins picked it up, the ball was declared down at the 10 yard line. Giving the broncos 2 plays to score on a shitty Teddy Cottrell’s runned defense experiencing its first game without Shawne Merriman. They of course go for two, as all they had to do was gain 2 yards, and they did it. 49-48 broncos win.

    Had the call been made correctly, the Chargers would have won the game, and right now, the Chargers would be the clinched AFC West Champions.

    People claim we should have stopped them on 3rd and 4th down, or the 2 pt conversion, but that is flawed logic, as we already stopped them on 2nd down. It’s crazy to ask a team to stop a team twice. Imagine how high scoring every NFL game would be if the defense had to stop the offense twice on each possession.

    That was a huge game because it was divisional and it was against the 2 teams that were going to be battling for the division, as the chiefs and raiders never had any chance.

    It’s not a “tired excuse” its just one of the MANY reasons why the broncos currently hold a lead on the AFC West. But even after all of that, it’s going to be un-done on sunday, and the true best team will prevail.

    LT has admitted for the last month that his toe has not bothered. Also take note his SURGERY on his knee. And if you’re calling him whiny b/c of that NE/SD playoff game….PLEASE. Marlon McCree intercepted the ball on fourth down (which would have ended the game), but he began to run the other way (unbelievably stupid) and of course he fumbled the ball, giving the ball right back to NE with a first down, allowing Brady to have a 2nd chance and win. Then, a few patriots gathered at the center of the SD field and made fun of shawne merriman. A classless act by the cheaters. Someone asked him about it in the press conference, and he stated his opinions about it – basically that it was B.S., and I agree. That soundbite got replayed over and over and over again, causing the weak minded to believe that LT is “whiny”. It’s called “propaganda”.

    The only player Rivers has ever disrespected is Jay “I’m better than ELWAY” Cutler. Who knows who said what first, but given Cutler’s assholish attitude, I’m thinking he started it. Rivers has a great attitude and he is a great leader. Can’t say the same for Cutler, who looked like he was about to cry yesterday when his headset in his helmet went out for a few plays.

    HA HA HA HA HA HA …. did a BRONCO fan just call out the San Diego defense? The charger defense is not bad, especially since Ron Rivera took over for the idiot Ted Cotrell in the middle of the season. It’s middle of the pack, 17th in points given up. This is part of the reason why the Chargers are going to rape the broncos on sunday in front of the entire nation.

    Can you say….FLAWED LOGIC? I’ve already discussed what has gone into SD’s record. I’ve also discussed what has gone into the broncos record – so F*** the broncos bullshit 8-7 record. How can you even claim this division “deserves better” than an 8-8 winner when the broncos, chiefs, and raiders are all so unbelievably bad?

So, to decide the divisional champion, shouldn’t the next tie breaker be DIVISIONAL RECORD? SD has taken care of the division this year, with our only divisional loss being to hochuli. So don’t we deserve to be divisional champs? How could you calculate a record vs “better teams” tie breaker? What exactly qualifies as a “better team”? You guys beat the saints and falcons…woo hoo! The falcons are 10-5 and the saints are 8-7! hahahahaha. You only beat the saints b/c of that non-call offside too.

    What about the chargers? They SMASHED the jets and the patriots on national television. They just smashed TB in the clutch. The colts only beat them b/c the refs had money on their side. They lost by 1 point to the steelers. The chargers have beaten better teams than denver has, and their losses have all been extremely close. Cant say the same about denver, who were BLOWN OUT by the CHIEFS, patriots, RAIDERS, and panthers.

    jchase, again i ve been fair in my assessment of the broncos, they havent had to deal with an extraordinary amount of adversity yet they have been mediocre during the cutler era. as bronco fans i expect you to hate your rivals; but that doesnt change the fact i have yet to hear One!! empirical fact that supports your elevated view of cutler/ broncos. i would love to know your reasoning in believing he is better than rivers? one stat, w-l record, achievement…anything!!

    Boston – While your argument that Rivers is better than Cutler is backed up by several stats, it is still your opinion that Rivers is a better QB. In my opinion Cutler has far more upside and I think Rivers won’t even be mentioned in the same breath as Cutler once both of their careers are over. Again, that’s my opinion, based on watching both players play week in & week out. Cutler has mad potential and once he learns to reign it in a bit and not throw as many picks he will be an elite QB in this league.

    PS Boston – I do have the 1 achievement that you are asking for that indicates that Cutler is better than Rivers this year, Cutler is a Pro Bowl QB this year, while Rivers is not. As you requested, there’s your 1 achievement.

    Give Cutler as much time in the League as a starting QB, and you will see the difference. While Rivers is a decent QB he is an a**hole as a person…from chargers players mouth, as well as my dad who does some work with the Chargers organization as a youth sports ambassador to the chargers. If you kept Brees you would have won a SB by now. Rivers seems to have peaked as a player, and he is better than a lot of QBs in the league, He just doesn’t have near the potential as Cutler. I believe if you look it up, Cutler has more 4th quarter comebacks, and with the game on the line, I would take Cutler over Rivers

    jchase,as far as giving “cutler as much time” they both started in 06, rivers has about 10 games on him. at the end of your 3rd yr, inexperience doesnt fly anymore.
    4th qtr comebacks: the fact that cutler only has 17 wins total; i find that claim highly dubious. where can i find that? if true doesnt that just mean that broncos were behind more often..because we know which qb has by far better winning %.

    i moved to del mar(so cal) a few yrs back since ive been here the local media, charger players(lt included) all say that rivers is great teammate,plays beyond his yrs, tough, family man,never in trouble, trash talking in misconstrued meant to be all in fun…blahblah. m
    my neighbor plays basketball @rec with him,gates,and other chargers. he says that rivers is super competitive,but totally chill; teammates seem to like him.

    it seems this yr. hasnt talked, complimentary of his opponents, but still enthusiastic on field much like favre; and everyone loves him.

    i have also heard that cutler pouts on sidelines, is surly, and extremely arrogant even in college.

    the point is that rivals are going to hate each other, but that is no reason deny the facts. as pats fan we hate peyton not jp losman. why, because we know that peyton can beat us. it would be pretty stupid as pats fans to say that peyton/colts suck.

    so you can say that you hate rivers/ bolts. just dont try and convince me that they suck, and that cutler/broncos are sooo much better. you are only kidding yourselves. cant wait for game..merry christmas!!

    If you re-read my last post, I didn’t say that Rivers or the chargers suck. In fact in a recent post, I mentioned that Denver can’t count on the Chargers to lose simply because of the amount of talent they have. Time will certainly tell on who is the better player…and Sunday will be a pretty good indicator. Cutler had 5 game winning/tying drives in the 4th quarter in his first 11 starts. He has 4 more this year, may well have been 5 more if stokely held on to the ball on a perfect pass on 4th down against the Bills.

    hey boston, speaking of choking dogs, how’d the Pats do in the SB last year. That whole going 16-0 thing means absolutely nothing. The Pats got punked on the biggest stage in NFL history. It’s also pretty pathetic that the Miami Dolphins are gonna win the AFC east over the Pats this year… they were 1-15 last year right? Also, Brady will never be the same. His career is over & he will always be remembered for choking in the SB last year.

    do you guys realize that Cutler has no defense, no running backs, maybe one or two good lineman and two DECENT lineman?….All games lies in Cutlers hands. It shows what kind of QB Cutler is. Think where they would be today with a decent D, and a decent RB. Cutler is twice the QB Rivers will ever be!!! He throws like a girl, and cries like one too….Big girls dont cry…come on!!!

    I can guarantee that if you took away merriman, Tomlinson, Turner, and Sproles for a whole season, Phillip Rivers and the Chargers would not have been 14-2 and Rivers would not have near the win percentage he has now. That is a stat that has to be placed on the whole team, not just a quarterback.

I am not comparing individual players, I am simply stating that if Rivers didn’t have people in other skill positions that he could rely on, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. Even with your university education, you can’t argue with that logic. I’m not saying the Broncos are the best team in the league, nor am I saying the Chargers are the worst. I am just defending who I believe is a better QB than Rivers, and you keep giving me loaded stats that have far more to do with the team than just the QB. Don’t be an idiot yourself and bunch all fans in with a few morons. I may not have a college degree, but I have a very high IQ and plenty of football knowledge.

    Boston… please. Everyone knows that Boston is known for baseball, beans, and dbags. Massholes to be exact. Seeing how my whole family is from Glouchester I would know a thing or two. I am not calling everyone that is from Boston a dbag, but seeing how you went to Northeastern you probably have encountered a your fair share roaming around the city.

    The city is just like any other really. It’s like NYC’s red headed step child to be honest. The T is possibly the worst public transportation system to be created and this is the city of the Big Dig where speaking of.
    Do not discredit Peyton Hillis. He was the first back to rush over 100 yards on the Jets and if you would actually talk time to look at footage of him I’m sure you would agree that he was the best of all the lost RBs that year.

    Rivers vs. Cutler is going to turn into a age old debate so it’s practically useless. One can argue that Cutler is naturally more talented with arm strength and mobility. Yet Rivers makes the smarter reads and throws far fewer picks. Cutler has better weapons, but Rivers stats are inflated because can dump the ball one yard to Sproles and he’ll turn it into a 76 yard touchdown. Cutler has about one less year than Rivers when it comes to experience as well. Another fact is that Rivers and Cutler each have great 4th quarter stats. They are both extremely talented and prideful quarterbacks so it’s obvious that there will be some tension.

    Boston… if you have seen The Dark Knight then this will make sense. The Chargers needs the Broncos like the Joker needs Batman. Remember this is why football is so awesome. Let us all remember that we are still human beings and not get wrapped up in the this name calling mud slinging fest. This sport is amazing!

    Wow…a lot of crying for days on this sight. The truth of the matter is this has nothing to do with the chargers it is all about the broncos not doing their job and getting in this situation. As far as Rivers talking take a look at Cutler and his great behavior…I hate people who talk trash and won’t look at the truth the Broncos don’t want it…and the coach needs to go..

    The broncos are the worst team over .500 that I’ve ever seen. Undoubtedly the most overrated bunch in the NFL. I expect a 20 point loss to SD, who isn’t a good team, but is still infinitely better than denver.

    I would love to see the day when phyllis loses as many key players to his offense and defense and still has a shot at winning the division. chargers can’t even sell out their stadium every home game as it is, that to me is the measuring stick of true fans. It seems they just don’t have what it takes.

    You have to be 2 b crazy if you think that rivers is a better QB than cutler i mean if i was the denver broncos GM i would not even think about trading cutler 4 rivers. and why would i trade a humble QB IN jay cutler 4 a disrespectful lil punk who thinks that he is the only QB in the NFL that can throw a 70 yard pass. yeah don’t think so. most of rivers yards come from there back up running back 5’6 in Darren sproles who turns a 15 yard screen into a 60,70, or 80 yard touch down. and yeah rivers has got a few deep passes to chambers or jackson. but when you see cutler trow a 60 or 70 yard pass to marshall or royal it’s not that surprising. and he’s still doing it even no there’s key players on IR. like grahamslam said i like to see the chargers do it with there key players out. BOSTON 1 more thing cutler made the pro bowl and rivers did’nt. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. o’ya BOSTON now you can LOL;)

    i cant believe the broncos just a big disipointment but i would trade a loss to SD then to have rivers as a QB. im not kiddin. its our d… they suck and how about all the coaches that have any thing to do with the d get there ass out of there and webster,bly ,and williams and that dumb ass prater who can’t even kick a pat get him out off the season and get just as good draft picks as you did last year
