Shawne Merriman

Don’t expect to see San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman on the field against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. In fact, don’t expect to see him on the field for quite awhile.

Merriman will be placed on Injured Reserve and miss the rest of the 2008 season, Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com reports. The three-time Pro Bowler will undergo season-ending knee surgery to repair two torn ligaments in his left knee.

Originally faced with the choice of either undergoing the surgery or playing through the pain (risking a career-threatening setback), Merriman chose the latter. After the Panthers upset the Chargers in week one, a game in which Merriman was invisible, he apparently changed his mind.

A two-game lead on the Chargers in the AFC West would be huge, and this is nothing short of great news to attaining that goal. I’m by no means underestimating the Chargers, but the loss of Merriman is addition by subtraction for the Broncos.

Thanks to T-Money in the comments for the tip!

He must be pleased, a whole year with no drug testing.

Somewhere in Denver is a very accomplished Voodoo practitioner with a room full of AFC dolls.

I for one is sad to see him gone. So, when we drop a real beating on them they can’t say it would be different if we had merrimen. Don’t get me wrong it’s still going to be a good game and I have alot of bolt fans (I mean front runners) living in so cal, but that being said I think cutler has takin that next step to be a top teir QB and should lead us to victory. Here’s to a great week and another ass kicking to an AFC west team . Go Broncos kick their ass and take no prisoners!!!

from what i remember, even when merriman did play against denver, he never had any sacks or game changing plays, but man did i really want roids to go on a jail break blitz and get his legs cut out from under him by ben hamilton

i would have liked to see him match up against clady- we’d get a real good sense of the kids progress up to this point. that being said, it does give us a better chance to win. our biggest problem is going to be stopping lt from rushing for a mile or so against us. i know that we can subtract the long fargas run in trash time last game, and we have pretty good numbers. lets not underestimate how bad the raiders are. they have no offensive line, and were still able to run on us a little.

Raiders have the so called “3 headed monster” McFadden/Vargas/Bush

Broncos have their “8 Headed Monster”, Cutler/Marshall/Royal/Stokely/Graham/Hillis/Clady/Sheffler…”Can’touch this”?

Go ahead Chargers, play Cromartie up tight on Marshall/Royal. Go ahead, use the bump to slow him down. But I warn you, when you try to bump him and you miss, better just signal to your safety that the vapor trail you see was Royal streaking by you.

Dont want to get too far ahead, but the media thought the Raiders were much better than a 41-14 beatdown, and maybe they are…we’ll see @ KC. In fact, in USA Today the Broncos moved up the Power Rankings from 23 to 20. However, the Raiders move up from 28 to 26? How do you justify that, unless you really believe the Raiders arent who we thought we saw on Monday Night.
