Ryan Torain

Denver Broncos rookie running back will be out 6-8 weeks with a broken bone in his left elbow, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. Torain was carted off the field this morning for what was initially reported as a hyperextended elbow by the Broncos training staff.

Torain was listed third on the Denver Broncos initial 2008 depth chart behind Selvin Young and Andre Hall. The fifth round pick out of Arizona State was making strides in camp and was coming on strong in the last few sessions.

Disappointing, to say the least. We have good depth at RB this year, but I was still looking forward to seeing what the rook could do. Assuming the time estimate is accurate, he’ll be ready to return to the field right around Weeks 3 or 4 of the regular season.

Dude, that sucks. Looks like Quick 6 will get more time to playing time. Couldn’t have come at a worse time for this young man.

  • Jason

As soon as I saw this entry I closed the browser. I guess I thought it might not be there when I opened it back up. Ah well. He was, in my mind, the next TD. I had hope anyway… *sigh*

  • OC Bronco

That had to hurt. Obviously a bad omen this early on in his career but I am happy that it doesn’t have to do with his legs/knee/anke etc. At least he will be back to 100% when he hits the playing field again.
Bottom line, this is the 1 position we don’t have to worry about. We have 4-5 guys that can rush for 1200 yards in our scheme if healthy and given the ball.

Torain on IR? or carry extra back?
    Young, Hall, Alridge
    Sapp, Hillis, Pittman
On IR he can be reinstated after game six. With Torain and Hillis, I thought Pittman may be gone, now ?

Is it me or has the news on the Selvin Young front been very quiet lately? I dont really seem to hear anything about him in the daily blogs, etc. Anybody know the scoop other than the 1st depth chart?

They will most likley put him on the PuP which would give him 6 months to get ready then decide if he can go or put him on IR…Really a shame…heal fast Ryan

  • TJ

And the hits just keep coming.

  • Trent

    F*$% this! Wasn’t Brandon’s news enough?

I can really feel for the kid. I broke my right elbow in 4 places a number of years ago. They had to put rods in my radius and ulna, I had 2 different casts and a second operation on the elbow over 8 months. What Ryan has happened is not as catastrophic as what I did, but what will bother him after the bone heals is what tendon and ligament damage was done. If it is severe enough he will have trouble holding on to the ball when he takes a hit. Hopefully, that won’t be the case.

Shanahan has a tough decission wither to IR Torain which menas (Currently, the NFL’s injured reserve rule restricts a player so designated from returning to play during the season that he’s placed on the list.) or sacrificing a spot for seven games.
IMO, IR. Let Young, Hall, Pittman, and Aldrige along with Sapp and Hillis man the RB positions.
Also with the youth on the line, who know how they will jell.
