SPEAK UP: How do you watch the Broncos?

In our first SPEAK UP post I asked you all to give us a bit of background info into your personal Broncos fan story.

In the responses of that post, I was reminded of how many of our readers are not necessarily from the Denver area. And as a Broncos fan currently residing in Knoxville, TN I know how difficult it is to catch the weekly games (unless you have directTV – which I don’t).

So, do you all catch the games at home with family? Do you hide in the garage with a tiny tv or do you have a monster-size flat-panel beast of a tv? Do you invite friends over or are you a fan-loner. Do you get out the sports bars with friends and strangers? Or are you one of the ‘Lucky Ones’ that have season tickets?

    For my part… I have a slightly newer tv set than the one pictured (but not by much). We do much more on the computer at our house than the tv.

    I try to catch as many games at home as possible (and I enjoyed live-blogging those games this year so I might do more of that in 2008).

    When the games don’t come on locally, I head done to my favorite family sports bar (Beef O’Brady’s). Their chilli rocks and it’s a nice PG-13 and non-smoking spot to cheer on the home team surrounded by 50-75 other fans all yelling for their team.

    Either way, I tend to get loud and vocal when watching the game… I know, they can’t hear me; however, if I don’t get my stress out by screaming at the tv I’d probably have some sort of disorder. :)

    The International Game pass is a God-send and means that I can get every Broncos game – although some are on a delay. I can put my computer through my TV so I get to watch it on a reasonable sized screen. When the Broncos are on Sky TV, then their game is shown on-line on a delay.

    Kick offs range from 6pm, 9pm to 1:15am. I can watch all of the 6pm games nice and easy, for the 9pm kick offs I always watch the first half and then depending on how the game is going and what I have on at work the next day I can just about get enough sleep when watching the second half.

    I tend to watch the late kick offs in two halves. I can watch some of it before breakfast the day after and then have to wait till after work to watch the second half. You’d have thought that avoiding the result of a Monday Night Football game on this side of the Atlantic would be easy. But it’s not as easy as you think. I have to avoid Yahoo’s home page which has a lot of the results and I can’t open my emails because of the post game review from denverbroncos.com.

    And when I finally do get to watch the game, it’s usually me, a coffee and my broncos cap.

    I’m perched on my couch in front of the 36″ HD LCD TV chain smoking Camels and chugging beer in the first half and water in the second. I live in Denver, so there’s never a chance of missing a kickoff. I go to between 4-6 home games every year, so I tivo those games and re-watch them when I get home (if they win. If they lose, it gets deleted).

    I try to always watch the Donks by myself. I hate having other people around opening their mouths and interrupting my good time.

    Live at Arizona. So sometimes at home on tv, sometimes at a bar, sometimes on Sirius NFL Radio.

    Jonathan and I talked earlier about trying to go to a Broncos game next season. We’d love to meet up with some of the readers who live in CO!

    I second Kyle’s offer. Having gone to a game in 2007, I would love to go in 2008! Kyle and I will be trying to work out a weekend that works for both of us (and our significant others), but it would be awesome to meet up with any fans in the area for the game! :)

    Speaking of that, do we have anyone that regularly tailgates at the Denver games?

    Somehow as I read the description of yourself watching games solo ‘chain smoking Camels and chugging beer’ I pictured you as an animated Simpson’s character…. That’s probably weird.

    Yeah, I was supposed to hook up with Jon when he was in town for the SD debacle last year (nice to be able to say last year finally), but I had a family problem to deal with.

    I don’t really chug the beer, I’ll have a two or three during the game. I don’t like getting hammered. But I’m guilty on the chain smoking.

    If I was a Simpsons character, I’d be one of the guys at the end of the bar here:

    i live in Seattle and have to endure the idiots called Seahawk fans. They are dumb, and think they have been in the Super Bowl every year. They act like the Seahawks are the greatest ever. That being said, I have to call my Dad in Colo Spgs and get updates or I watch live espn statistical updates.

    But I eagerly do what I can to have a Bronco Sunday.

    Broncos for life.
