Despite the rumors that there is a least one remaining game left in the 2007 season, I am now firmly in off-season mode. And what better way to begin the long dark months without a broncos football game, then to get to know your fellow fans?

Kyle, Earl and I have really appriciated all of the feedback and comments we’ve received this last year. Personally, one of the reason I started blogging about the broncos was to have engaging dialog with other broncos fans and BroncoTalk.net has certainly provide me with many of those!

And now I want to hear some more from our readers. This off-season I would like to give you, our readers, an opportunity to speak up and be heard.

For starters let’s do an easy one…

When and why did you become a Broncos fan?

Post a comment with your story.

NOTE: Due to the vast quanity of spam this site recieves daily, we moderate our comments. I’m sorry we have to ask you to sign in to comment, but it’s the only way to avoid having 100 viagra and adult ads from buring any real feedback (not to mention it’s just plain annoying). So, please sign in and give us your story – we’d like to know more aboutcha.

Oh… I should probably share my backstory too, huh?

When I was in middle school the coolest kid in school started wearing an awesome looking orange & blue leather denver broncos jacket. Now, I was living in northern Indiana at the time and this was the early 80’s. In that part of world you either hadn’t heard of the Broncos or you thought they sucked.

Well, I thought this jacket rocked and I wanted one (bad). So, I figured I might as well check out the team it came from. And as fate would have it, the very first game that I saw televised in Indiana was one of John Elway’s glorious 4th quarter come-from-behind wins — and I was hooked.

I guess you could say that I fell in love with the Broncos via a leather jacket and Elway… But my love of the team has remained strong long after The Duke hung up his helmet and Denver stopped using the ‘D’ logo (what a shame, really).

As a post script, I never actually got my own leather Denver jacket, so I’m still on the hunt for one. If you know that one of these jackets (they call them ‘vintage’ now) is collecting dust in a closet somewhere, feel free to email me — I’ll happily pay good money for it. :)

Now, I KNOW there are fans that have stories that go MUCH further back than Elway’s day, so I can’t wait to hear from you!

    Excellent Idea!

Gridiron had been on UK TV for a couple of years and everyone at school was fascinated by it. They used to do highlights every Saturday morning. I needed a team.

That year the AFC Championship contained “The Drive” – how can you not become a Denver fan after that?

MB, I think many of us will have Elway in our stories… and that makes me wonder if the same thing will be true years from now about Jay Cutler. Of course, as Shanahan always says, nothing matters but what happens on the field. So there would have to be Super Bowls in that future, but it’s still cool to think about a whole new generation of fans who will tell of their first Bronco experiences watching JC. :)

I grew up a Broncos fan in southern Colorado. My first real memory of anything Broncos is moving to Arizona when I was 5 and going over to a friend’s house. I started talking about John Elway and the kid said “Who’s John Elway?” I was blown away.

It’s weird the way the mind works when you’re young. I have no doubt I was as rabid a fan in my early youth as I am now. How else could I have been “blown away” by that kid not knowing who Elway was? Yet I don’t remember a thing about the Broncos before that.

No real story for me. When I was actually old enough to care about football, we were living in western Colorado.
My dad was a Bronco fan and that made me a Bronco fan.

I hope that I can have the same successful influence your father had with you with my foster kids! lol

My uncle is a Raiders fan, I know how can he still be my uncle HA. Well, when I was little I used to watch many football games with him and they played the Broncos twice a year. So, one day when I was three years old, I was watching Elway scramble and hit a receiver all the way on the other side of the field (which he routinely did HA). And I went oooo ooo ooo, and got all excited, and my uncle said that’s when I became a fan. I was living in DC at the time, and now live in Austin, Tx, which surprisingly has a large Broncos following, which is great. And continue to support the team through thick and thin, though I disagree with the direction the franchise is going right now. GO BRONCOS!!!!

I’ve always been a Broncos fan since I grew up here in Denver and always cheered on the home town teams. But I remember the day when I went from casual fan to die hard fan. In 1996 when the Broncos played Chicago, my Dad took me to my first real live game. The Broncos stopped Chicago 4 times on 1st and goal from the 1. It was so cool to see the team win like that and it was very special to me to be a part of the atmosphere and experience. I’m a season ticket holder now and crave the magic of being at the games. The Broncos will be forever a part of me!

Ben, Austin’s a GREAT town! My wife and I have attended SXSW a couple of times recently, and we both fell in love with Austin. And, now I have one more reason to like the place — a strong Bronco fan base! :)

Jacyln, awesome story! As I mentioned John Elway hooked me, but it was the full cast of players that held my fandom as I watched the team over time. In 1996 one of my favorites on the defense (and probably an important part of that goal-line stand) was the GREAT Steve Atwater — now, that guy was FUN to watch! :)

    Thanks for commenting!!!
