With all of the NFL’s Week Six Sunday games over and the trade deadline looming, the Denver Broncos‘ front office should be expecting some phone calls.

Bronco receivers Brandon Lloyd and Eddie Royal are both in the final year of their respective contracts and have both requested to be traded.  If a team calls — and they will — the Broncos may make a deal before Monday’s 11:10 a.m. practice session.

The question is, which receiver will be dealt, and what is the asking price?  It seems unlikely that the Broncos would be willing to trade both receivers, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

At the moment, it appears Lloyd is the more likely of the two to be traded, with Denver asking for a 3rd to 5th round selection.  Reportedly, the New England Patriots were interested in Lloyd but have backed off, while the St. Louis Rams are the front runners to close a deal.

The Rams offense is now under the control of Josh McDaniels, who has connections to Lloyd, so a trade to St. Louis would make sense.  Mike Klis of the Denver Post has reported that the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans are also interested in Lloyd.

It is not clearly known what the Broncos are asking in exchange for Royal, but ESPN‘s Adam Schefter reports that Royal has drawn just as much interest as Lloyd.  One team that has been thrown into the conversation is the Washington Redskins, who are coached by Mike Shanahan.  Royal’s most productive season came in 2008, his rookie year when Shanahan drafted him in the second round of the draft.

Behind Lloyd and Royal on the Broncos depth chart are receivers Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas (two arguably up and coming stars), journey man Matt Willis (who has been one of Tebow’s favorite targets since the 2010 preseason) and return specialist Quan Cosby.  Undrafted rookie Eron Riley, whom Tebow connected with well during the preseason, is also on the practice squad.

If either of the receivers are traded, we suspect it will be Lloyd, and possibly soon.  The NFL’s trade deadline is at 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday afternoon.  Let the bidding begin!

Kyle Orton also asked to be traded before Tuesday, BTW. Doubt that will happen though.

Still not very impressed with Demaryius Thomas- I’m naturally suspicious of anyone chosen by that little F***er McDaniels. I know, I know, there are a few who have panned out and I’m in the Tebow corner and all, but Thomas needs to finish the season with a strong showing, without injury.

Did anyone see Sean Payton get drilled today? I like the guy, but man, he got smoked…

i really don’t care if we lose Lloyd he old and slow.. he best qualities is his hands.. Royal on the other had is the perfect slot machine for us. Demaryius Thomas is a pure breed stud.. he was miss used by McD and the resulted in his re-injury.. no way he’s does special teams and play slot receiver.. make that man line up outside and throw him the deep ball.. Decker and Royal  can eat up the middle along with Julius Thomas

Hello, first time poster here, hopefully I get a good rep.

Anyways, I hope we get a good return for Lloyd, we’d be selling high and hopefully get a good draft pick.

As for royal, I don’t want to see him go, he showed good potential a year (or two?) ago. Hopefully we can keep him, and build around Tebow, Miller, and Decker.

Also, Bronco fans, is Tebow our future franchise QB? If not, do you think someone like Landry Jones or Matt Barkley would be a good pick?

Royal and Lloyd leave in free agency and the Broncos end up with a 3rd and 5th compensatory pick, neither of which, I believe can be traded.  So if you’re looking for the ammunition to move up a few spots – from #10 to say #1 - in the draft then you really need to get the picks now.

  • Matt Diz

Try Andrew Luck. Elway and Stanford connections. We will continue to lose and have a franchise qb. Logic

    Suck for Luck!

    Someone with brains, thank you!

    Welcome!

Well the plan is to find out if Tebow is the future over the next 11 games (although personally I think its unlikely) and I think Elway’s made his mind up already.  But these picks are all ammunition in case the Broncos need to move up in the draft to get someone they really want.

If Royal hits the open market at the end of the season there’s no way he stays in Denver – he’ll be in Washington with Shanny, only an injury will stop that happening.

  • flbronc

I am very impressed with dthomas, when he is on the field.  he is every bit as good as lloyd.  the problem, as you noted, is he can’t stay on the field.  if healthy he could be a solid #1 wr.  unfortunately that is a big if.

Compensatory picks are always lower than we expect. We’d be lucky to get 5th round picks for Lloyd and/or Royal. More like 6th for Lloyd and 7th for Royal. They are always low. If someone like Peyton Manning left the Colts in free agency, they MIGHT get a 3rd or 4th round pick for him… And Lloyd and Royal combined aren’t even close to as valuable as Manning, so don’t expect much for compensatory picks.

  • AtomicLeo

McD did know WRs. All the ones he brought in through FA (Gaffney, Lloyd) and drafted (Thomas Decker) have been solid.

I forgot that McD was in StL.  Don’t we have a couple TEs lying around somewhere we can dig up and offer to the boy wonder?  What about Moreno for Bradford?  With some sweet talking and a few pounds of ribs we might be able to get KC to throw in Cassel, and they can pick one of our QBs.

    I bet they pick Quinn

    Lloyd to Rams: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82334429/article/rams-to-acquire-veteran-receiver-lloyd-in-trade-with-broncos?module=HP11_breaking_news

LaCanfora just tweeted the deal is done, however, Shefter said they are still sifting through the details…I always go with Shefter.  Good luck Brandon.

The Colts already have his contract ready.  Perhaps you could add something else to this board?

  • areferee

There is a clearly defined rule against hitting defenseless coaches.  Expect another “Goody Telegram”.  (Besides, the Tampa stadium is a “no smoking” area!)

  • areferee

When had the NFL network EVER been wrong? (This morning, I mean.)

  • areferee

They don’t eat tacos in DC, just crow!

  • areferee

Barbecue is the ONLY thing good to come out of KC.  Nothing good ever goes there…on purpose!  (Or Oakland!)

  • areferee

Kyle Orton to Oakland to replace Campbell?

    Like or dislike?

  • AtomicLeo

Dislike. You never trade a guy to a division rival mid-season. Just think what he could tell the Raiders about our offense.

  • AtomicLeo

Gary Miller reported on Twitter that it’s for a 6th possible 5th if he produces in St. Louis. Good move for both teams IMO.

  • flbronc

i dont think it would hurt that bad…  our playbook is pretty predictable now that tebow is taking over.  plus, our defense would get two more int’s and a forced fumble when we play them next.

if we could get a decent draft pick out of it i would be ok with it.

  • flbronc

hopefully those production numbers are low.  they are getting the better end of the deal if they only have to give up a sixth.

  • flbronc

    according to mort:

The Rams gave up a sixth-round pick in the 2012 draft that could become a
fifth-round pick if Lloyd catches 30 passes this season for St. Louis.

  • Anonymous

yes what could he say about the offense.
3rd and 8 throw for three yards.
Run, run, throw the ball away
    Run, run, interception
    Run, run, fumble
Run, run, miles of green in front of me…throw the ball away.
Dang it, he would destroy the whole offense!

  • Anonymous

Elway just tweeted the deal is done for a conditional 2012 pick…we wish him luck blah, blah, blah…Maybe he meant we wish us (Andrew) Luck…I see the thought process now, crafty Stanford word twist!

  • flbronc

yea, the receivers no longer have routes to run.  just downfield blocking assignments.

  • Anonymous

If that’s true, then I really hope Elway gets fired.

However, back in reality land, this is due to the fact that he won’t get extended and Denver’s first round pick from last draft is back and healthy.

    Put the conspiracy drank down.

  • anthony33

5th most likely… not a good deal for a pro bowl reciever.

  • AtomicLeo

    HAHA!

  • BroncFan

Good deal for Fox,maybe he can do some more to sabotage any chance Tebow has of succeeding!
