Former Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler made a big fuss to get himself traded out of Denver.  Some believed his relatively lightweight rookie contract had a lot to do with it.

Those conspiracy theorists have a bit more ammo today.

The NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora is reporting that Cutler’s new team, the Chicago Bears, have signed the fourth-year QB to a two-year contract extension worth roughly $20 million in guarantees and $30 million in new money.  The contract keeps Cutler in Chicago through 2013.

That is, unless he requests another trade.

  • I think the CBA uncertainty had a lot to do with this only being a two-year extension, and not a 6-year $100 million new contract

I'm really forgetting all about Jay. I'm also embracing the Kyle Orton era. Yes ERA the guy could QB. He manages the game better than Jay and also allow our D to get plenty of rest. So after week 14 depending where we stand Orton should get an extension nothing mind blowing maybe 5 year 20 mil with 15 guaranteed or less.

Resting the D is what I have been talking about with my buddies. Jay would get in there, make a mistake INT or do a 75 yrd bomb TD and the poor D gets 2 min of rest either way. Never helping that D out at all.

Orton manages the clock amazingly well. I think in MNF he had a drive in the second half for almost a complete quarter. Not only giving the D rest but allows time to coach them and get them all on the same page.

Let's whip out that pocketbook and sign Marshall, Nolan and Orton baby. We could be special for a long time.

With out a day Marshall will be getting a raise before the season is out. Champ could use an extension.

Loving Orton these days. Not forgetting how much I loved Jay or how good he'd be in this offense! Now he's wrong for wanting to get paid?
    Funny.

Jay is worth every penny in entertainment value. There are no sure thing wins. You never know what you are going to get. It's like Christmas every game day. In a way I get to feel like I am part of the outcome. If I think very good thoughts and do something nice every day I will build up a stock of good will that we can cash in for a good game. Why didn't Denver pay him earlier? You can't replace that feeling.

Snort.....snort.....I think I just woke up and Denver actually has a good quarterback. One who doesn't cause me to reply to every valid point brought up by a Raiders fan with, "yeah, but Jay can throw really hard!"

Now we know who wanted out of denver and why! Anyone still thinks McD wanted to trade him??? IT WAS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! Have at it jay but come clean and admit that you acted like a baby just to get paid. Just keep throwing INTs to make us happy and lose as many games as you can so we can have a better player in the draft next year.

should have used some of that money in a trade package, receiver for Jay to throw to... Marshall stuck around and realized what it means to play for a team! I was a jay supporter (after all its a lot easier to watch him now..."without the nicks and cuts of a blade") but i think we are all starting to see what was really happening...

Josh says.. "i'm the leader of this team...if you think you are, then stand up and walk out..."

Jay says.. "coach, you didn't really mean that for everyone...i mean we know i'm not leaving, right..... right.... coach?"

    (crickets...)

on a side note, im really glad the whole Cassel thing didn't work out...JMcD seemed pretty happy to beat up on Brady...the cheffs game is gonna be awesome... wish i would have went to arrowhead this year (instead of last :( )

I'm happy to say I was wrong about Orton. He's good and reliable. I watched the Chicago-Atlanta game and realized why we got rid of Cutler. He's a .500 QB. He just can't stand to throw a TD pass in the red zone. It's gotta be an INT. Can you say overrated?

I dont buy into the the theory that money had a lot to do with jerkler wanting out-it was his ego taking a hit of not being the man of the team and city and just being a cog in the winning system and a team player!! No way are we 6-0 with Cutler in this system, he will be on more highlight reels than Orton but he will never have a better winning % than orton-ever see McD chewing out Orton on the sideline-cutler would throw a hissy fit-i loved cutler for his pure ability and i think he is the most talented qb in the league but it takes much more than talent and he lacks the mental toughness and fight to win (see numerous childess moron moments)- give me wins anyday!! Anyone else realise the dent McD is making in Shamahans Hall Of Fame Creditials the longer we go into the season-the team has been a joke for a number of years with numerous blow-out losses- not going to happen under McD- thank god we have him and sorted Shamahans mess in 1 off season- Go McD and Broncos

I think cutler is a more talented version of Jamarcus Russell. If you look at cutler he never checked it down, it annoyed the hell out of me because the greatest QBs use the whole field not just down field (John Elway during super bowl runs etc). That is why Orton is far better than Cut would have ever been in this system.

How does this ex-Bronco and whiner warrant any attention or headlines in this forum? Are we scheduled to play da Bears?
  • Thanks for your comment! We don't talk about Cutler often, but:

    1. It connects to/finishes a huge story from the offseason about a possibility *why* he wanted traded.
    2. It connects to a developing story regarding Kyle Orton (see today's Daily Links, and another article we're working on about Orton's contract).

This development sheds light on the past and lends a glimpse into the future. Of the Broncos. That's why it's pertinent.

Another embarrassing loss for this bozo today. Three more picks to add to what is looking soon to be a career high in that dubious category... Gotta love it!

Enjoy watching "what could have been" you stupid jackass! Hope you're sulking in your dispair. Enjoy the cash as that's all you ever wanted anyway it appears.
