The Denver Broncos have agreed to trade Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears.

In return, the Broncos acquired quarterback Kyle Orton, two first-round draft picks (18th overall in 2009 and their 2010 first round pick), and a third-round pick. The Broncos also included a fifth-round pick in the deal.

Well at least it’s over with.

  • Matt

Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out.

  • ssc

f*k. i’m in chicago. now i have to listen to this city fawn over cutler for the next decade. this is cruel.

  • Joe H.

Yeap just got texted that Cutler got traded to the Bears by CBS4 in Denver. The question is who or what are we getting in return!!!??? SEE YA Jay have fun with DA Bears!!!!

  • SivNiz
  • http://twitter.com/webdav Dave Simon

    Great, Kyle Orton era?

  • SivNiz

Kyle Orton and first-round picks in 2009 and 2010, a source said.

  • Joe H.

Watching PTI and they said we are getting Kyle Orton and 2 1st round picks. Well I don’t know about this we could use the picks ,but Orton!!!!???

  • SivNiz

why the hell would we want more 1st round picks in the two years before a new CBA

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

kyle ortman and two first round picks for the trade

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

I don’t like it. I think we got ripped off

  • alm034

Kyle Orton may not be flashy, but the Bears won under him. Also, nobody said he’d be the starter.

  • kerry

Orton and 2 first round picks!! unfuckingbelieveable. we couldnt even get a defensive player in return and we also sent a third round pick to the Bears with Cutler. id rather have Brian Urlacher the Kyle Orton. this fucking blows. Mcdaniels and Bowlen are Beavis and Butthead. two dumb fucking morons!!

  • Ryan M.

Okay lets review here, we traded a Hall of Fame two time super bowl winning Coach and a 25 year old Pro Bowl QB for an unproven 32 year old snot nose Coach, and KYLE ORTON??? Are we a better team than last year? NO WAY!!!

  • Bobby

    KYLE ORTON? REALLY? FFFFFFFF

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

Ripped off. Bottom Line. Now I REALLY hat McD GMX AND PAT BOWLEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F@#$@

  • http://www.dbaumgartner.com daveb

NOW I’m pissed off!! This is bad…bad…bad!

  • Andpark

I feel sad. Any chance getting Sanchez? This whole thing is a disaster. McD has been a complete mess.

  • Drum

Yikes! As a Bills fan who was rooting for a Cutler for Trent Edwards + 2 picks I gotta say I feel for you Broncos fans….man alive!

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

Tade Orton and a first rounder to Cleveland for Quinn?

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

    This is so dumb

  • Fan From Spain

they couldn’t get a better trade then that? give me a break…

  • SivNiz

    Sanchez at 18?

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

    McD is an idiot

  • REICH

Read Denver also got a 3 this yr

  • Danish

I’m satisfied. Two first rounderas and a five to sweeten the pot.

Orton will compete with Simms. I’m positive at this point, that Orton will look a lot better i Denver, than in Chicago once he gets actual recievers. He looked fine until his injury last season. This could’ve been much, much worse…

  • BroncoinVA9986

this sucks….but I am takin my cutler poster to the bar tonight to play darts….hehe

  • MIAbronco

guys, i like the two first rounders, but we did get one improvement, Orton’s liver is way more experienced then jay’s was

    http://drunkathlete.com/category/nfl/chicago-bears/kyle-orton/

  • artschambou

we are fkn retarded, orton sucks i may becoming a raiders fan haha

  • Joe H.

Sanchez won’t be there at 18, the only way we get a QB in the draft is the Broncos trade both the 12th and 18th pick to move up in the draft ahead of Jacksonville. And why did we have to give up a 5th rounder next year for??!!

  • luger505

Looks like Cutler was 1 for 1 for Orton and now if the 2 firsts can be bundled for a spot to get Sanchez, you essentially pay double for him. End result: Sanchez and Orton going into camp, no new defense.

Matt Millen thinks this is great for Denver.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

Two first rounders, a third and Kyle Orton for Cutler and a 5th.

  • Sabo

There is some wrong information out there. The DP and the Chicago Trib say:

Sources in Denver say the Bears will receive Cutler and the Broncos’ fifth-round pick in April’s draft.

The Bears send starting quarterback Kyle Orton, their first round picks this year (18th overall) and in 2010 and the team’s third-round pick in 2009.

That means we get 2 1sts and a 3rd and give up a 5th. Big difference.

  • Joe H.

We should of traded for Quinn!!!

  • BroncoinVA9986

who says we need a QB in the first round….we can get vick now

  • Joe H.

Yeah let’s bring in the dog killer!!!!

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

No third now, sources keep flipping, Broncos haven’t even confirmed that they’re getting Orton though. We’ll let you know when it’s official.

  • stav

Why did this have to get done so soon? Why couldn’t we wait until the draft? Chris Simms – starting QB, Kyle Orton – backup. Why didn’t they wait? One positive for Orton, he’ll keep his mouth shut and they went 9-7. But they did get two #1′s and a #3 this year. We can only hope Cutler has a shitty first year and the Bears go 6-10. Also, if Orton threw 18-12 with Chicago’s offense, am I reaching in saying 20+ TD’s if he wins the starting job. Holy shit McD, you better work your effin magic this year.

  • stav

Williamson was just espn news saying they got the Bears third and they give up a fifth. And NFL network said that too.

  • kerry

shut up about mike vick. fuck quinn, mike vick and kyle orton. this is the worst day since Elway retired.

  • REICH

Hopefully Denver goes Defense in RD one. With Raji most likley falling from his positive drug test he night fall to 12, then we draft a LB with 18.

  • SivNiz

at least our preseason game against Chicago will be fun

  • soxbigdog

    Kyle Orton ??? honestly ???

Please tell me this was the best they could do…

Hopefully Orton will replace Simms as the back-up and they go after someone else

  • Boisebroncoguy

I’m with Kerry on this one. This is sickening. How long will it be until we even come close to getting a QB this good. Orton and the 18th pick……………..??!!

  • AtomicLeo

You know…. a 9-7 NFC team went to the Superbowl last year. The Bears are now contenders in teh NFC North. Bowlen better hope Cutler isn’t leading the Bear in the NF playoffs next year.

  • http://blarg.com SadFan

It’s a sad day for Bronco’s fans, I’ll be outside burning my Cutler jersey and weeping.

  • BroncoinVA9986

Reich you don t draft guys with character flaws when you have to pay first round money………………………

  • artschambou

i think pat and mcd should be drug tested fk this sucks

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

I’m rooting for simms to win the job in TC

  • Andpark

Great now we have 2 backup QB’s and still have to waste a 3rd round pick getting another. Why didn’t we just force Jay to play? McD and Cutler are 2 6th grade little girls and couldn’t just be hero’s together.

This will set us back for a long time.

  • kerry

i hate Bowlen and McDaniels. 3-13 here we come.

  • kerry

anyone who says this is good is the biggest F-ing moron on earth.

  • JRODZ

Are shitting me? Orton? Now trade up and grab a QB. Bad trade all the way around. We fricking “Settled.” This is trade strike two! What a bunch of morons!

  • brandocommando

this could quite possibly be the worst trade of all time, orton sucks, i know we had to get rid of cutler but why the hell would you send one of the best quarterbacks in the league for a rex (shitty excuse for a qb) grossman backup? were just gonna pay orton to sit on the bench, he is worthless and he will never amount to anything, great job mcdooshnozzle, we won’t win a single game with orton and his shitty arm running the offense, i hope we start simms and that mcdaniels finally makes a good team decision and kills himself

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

If they can fix the Defense then I’m not all that worried. I still we got ripped off.

  • Joe H.

Well if MacDaniels can make Cassel look good maybe he can help Orton become better. I’m willing to give him a chance. With those picks they could fix there defense and get a young QB to be groomed by MacDaniels, I can warm up to this trade!! I like Reich’s idea of hoping Raji falls because of his drug test failure to the 12th pick and then draft Cushing with the 18 th pick. I will die a bronco fan so I will back them up no matter what !!! GO BRONCOS!!!!!

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

I’m glad this is over, lets move forward. Kerry I like the draft picks in the deal, considering the most recent update states we didnt give up any picks.

Kyle Orton is not the answer I agree, but he’ll be gone when his contract expires … perhaps we draft Sanchez now?

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

T-Money what more did you expect?

  • Joe H.

Kerry just because you don’t like it it dosen’t make you any smarter than anyone else here on this blog. Get over yourself and go be a Raider fan!!!

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

Everyone hates this deal? I’m not so sure I do… Two number ones and a third rounder for a guy that thinks he’s too good for the Orange And Blue?

  • Joe H.

    AMEN MARK!!!!!

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

Did anyone read Jay Cutler’s father’s comments about this being the “happiest day of his life?” …. Screw Jay Cutler , Bus Cook, and his parents … lets move forward with the DENVER BRONCOS we have now … I’m beginning to hate talking about the prick.

By the way , I think its an ok deal .. I like the 3rd round pick thrown in. Long term I think we will come out on top. Good luck playing in Chicago Jay , that’s where QB careers go to die ..lol

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador
  • kerry

hey joe, dont worry about what im saying. ill voice my opinion as i fucking well please.

    Dee:

im not sure about Sanchez. maybe. at this point it doesnt matter. put Sanchez back there and it wont be better then the backups we have here now.

  • stav

we were never getting equal value back so this looks like a pretty good deal considering the bounty we got. Dove Valley needed this, now we can get down to business which is what they really needed, no distractions, no more pr bullshit, no more he said/she said (Bus/Cutler), just focus for 2009. Whoever wants to hop off the Denver wagon over this, go ahead, I’m not, time to move on.

  • Joe H.

We could also draft Josh Freeman with the 18th pick.

  • Let plummerplay

Cutler was worth more than this. I am also not happy to see Cutler get what he wants. I wanted him to land in Detroit and suffer. I hate to say it but the Broncos are now a bad team without a face.

  • Let plummerplay

Chicago radio is loving it. They now want Shanahan……. I am dying

  • broncojim

i live in phila. i have been a bronco fan since the 70s when i was 9 because of that orange crush defense. i suffered thru all 4 loses and the teasing i got because they got blown out by the 3 nfc east teams and i live in a place where there’s plenty of those fans. elway got so much crap thru the years and once he got a coach that put a rb and a defense behind him he won 2 bowls. who does josh mdaniels think he is? all of the belichek disciples have been fired. pioli has put all his egss in cassel who played good with a super bowl team around him. the bears will probably make the playoffs next year. we will not sniff the playoffs for years. after those draft picks are cut at the end of the 2010 season and we are stuck with a stable of backup qb’s,what will happen then? we will become the detroit lions! i pay way over my budget to get sunday ticket and put up with directv’s crappy signal just so i can see the broncos every sunday. I WILL NOT DO THAT THIS YEAR! BOWLEN, THIS SEASON U BROKE MY HEART!

  • Joe H.

Cutlwerwon’t do much better in Chicago. Their offensive line dosen’t even compare to Denver’s. It’s hard to throw the ball when you are always on your back!!!

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

    Kerry

I know you pissed about it , but I think long term we will win out in this deal. We need help on defense and we will be able to get it this draft. The QB situation , I’d go with Simms and see how things go, Orton is ok I guess.

This might help the Bears? But consider this they’re crap OFFENSIVE LINE, they CRAP WIDE RECEIVERS, and I believe their defense is in a major decline. The Bears have sold their future for Cutler, it won’t work … we’ll have a top 10 pick from them next year.

LETS FOCUS ON THE DRAFT NOW … !!!

I think we won this deal … 2 first round picks , and a 3rd round pick and a starting QB? … ???

Where is the downside? Cutler was not coming back everyone needs to come to terms with that, maybe the initial shock of it happening has everyone pissed but come on who was everyone expecting to come back ? The majority of what we got was going to be draft picks. Most Analysts also agree the Bears gave up alot to get him.

  • flbronc

before everyone bashes orton… i have to say i watched him at purdue and liked him there…lets look at some numebers from last year (orton played 1 fewer game than cutler):

completion %: orton 58.5 cutler 62.3 (only a 3.8% difference- whats that like one pass per game less?)

    TD:INT : orton 18:12 (.66) cutler 25:18 (.72)

comp/attempt/yds: orton 272/465/2972 cutler 384/616/4526 (cutler has more passing attempts, but one more game)

qb rating: orton 79.6 cutler 86 (honestly i was expecting a much bigger gap here)

now take into consideration that cutler had brandon marshall, eddie royal, stoke and scheff. orton had devin hester, greg olson, desmond clark and brandon lloyd to pass to. i think that you can make an arguement that better recievers will make up some of (and possibly all) the ground between the relatively small gaps in orton vs cutler stats….

it will be interesting to see what chicago does with their recieving corps- imo, they are in rough shape now. they better draft or trade for some recievers or cutler is going to have a rough time next year.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

The Bears Fan will turn on Cutler right after he has his first 3 interception game

  • Joe H.

    Very well put Dee!!!!

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

    Think about this boys:
    B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College
    Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC
    Ron Brace, NT, Boston College
    Sherrod Martin, FS/CB, Troy
    Paul Kruger, DE, Utah

5 NEW defensive studs this year and get a new QB next year…

  • flbronc

kerry will turn on orton before he arrives in denver

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

When you look at the trade rationally and the possibilities for us in the draft you get excited. Come on Kerry join us ! lol

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

Kerry is a good guy, he is just passionate about his Broncos … I get that way too, but this whole Cutler situation had me so pissed that I wanted it over… and I think enough back. How many picks do we have this year now? 10 or 11?

  • kerry s

When do the Orton jerseys go on sale? Rock on Josh!! So far i’m impressed with the McDaniels era. (lol) I’m starting drinking again.

  • Andpark

We are going to have to use both #1′s (12 and 18) to trade up for Sanchez, don’t get a first round defender and then what? We traded our star QB and now have 3 loser/questionable QB’s and no better D.

McD sucks, this sucks, Orton sucks.

  • broncojim

franchise qb’s don’t grow on trees. kyle orton is a backup qb. trading cutler did not make that horrible defense better. they signed dawkins and i live in philly and know what kind of player he WAS! this of line is not that great. we have a stable of backup rb’s! when orton overthrows brandon marshall next season, ur really going to hear some crying! he’s TO jr.! what kind of identity does this team have?

  • kerry

all are of you serious?? we get rid of cutler for a backup and draft picks and that is good?? am i in the fucking twilight zone?!? number 2 offense with 7 RB’s on IR. we get a power runner and fix the defense with cutler at the helm and we are contending every year. now we are set back 5 years. sorry i cant be happy after getting rid of the best young QB for a backup and draft picks. we had 9 picks WITHOUT getting rid of Cutler. god damn are you people serious??!!

  • bigkjr

stupid, stupid, stupid. Are we going to start Kyle, or Chris? or are we going to draft another QB in the draft? No matter what we will be terrible for years to come. We might as well not even play next year.

  • Joe H.

Aren’t we all passionate about our Broncos yet he is the only one here on this blog that acts like a little child.

  • Katch22

GOOD! I’m glad it’s over. Best of luck to Jay trying to play in that place. The asking price was two first rounders, we got that and a third. Orton has my vote due to the fact he had crap to work with on offense there and now has a ton of weapons. I don’t think we take a QB in the first two rounds but maybe look at John Parker Wilson in the third or fourth. I bet we land Raji with the 12th due to the drug thing.

  • Ant

I hate McDaniels and Bowlen. We just got screwed. What do you expected with a GM like Xanders. I really can’t believe that was the best that was out there with all the teams that had interest in Cutler. Well I guess I have to retire Cutlers jersey right next to my Jake Plummer jersey. It’s a sad day in Denver Land.

  • kerry

there isnt a single player in this draft that would be better then Cutler. NOT ONE!! but most of you are rejoicing. what the hell is the matter with you people?? we cant trade a franchise QB just to waste our first round picks on a rookie QB!! DUH!!!!! if ANYTHING we have to use our first five pick on defense and nothing else.

  • Ant

I Love the Broncos, but there’s a part of me that want McDaniels to fail. I wish Bowlen would have given the Coaching job to Jim Bates the QB coach. He is young and mentored under Shanny. Then you get a vet Defensive coach to overhaul the D and we’re back in business.

  • broncojim

now cutler has forte who is a good rb and going into his 2nd year. the bears always had a good defense. they might never win a super bowl, but they are in the mix. what do WE have!?!?!?

  • pigmeat

as a die hard boltsfan i ve been interested in our closest divisional rival. after today i going to have to pay attention to the raiders from now on haha..

as a realist i realize we have our share of problems: wishing lt was 3 yrs younger; help @ rt,s,ilb.. but we do get merriman juice or no juice. i ll take our problems over the broncos anyday.

the broncos have turned into raiders lite:) 1. trade malcontent best player 2. second best player-could be the dumbest person ever. who starts beating on your girlfriend AFTER the cops get there?? hahahah..suspension is coming for b. marsh 3. sign a bunch 2nd rate over the hill fa’s..not one of them a difference maker. 4. new coaches, new system 5. tough as hell schedule: bolts twice, pats, colts, steelers, ravens, boys, eagles, giants…good ffffng luck next yr.hahahahaha.
broncos are no longer relevant..iam going to have to get used to hating da raiders again…cutler was the only reason why they won even 8 games..enjoy 4th placehahaha

  • Joe H.

Kerry, Cutler didn’t give the Broncos no other choice! Unless you actually believe that BS he said yesterday about not wanting to be traded. Denver got more than what they were asking for!!!!

  • soxbigdog

okay.. after the shock and awe I had from this announcement I have regroup…

Kyle Orton.. is well.. Kyle Orton, but he is just as or more proven than any other active NFL QB that had been discussed (Quinn, Lienhart, Garcia, etc)..

He will be the QB next year, and with 4 first round picks the next few years, if Sanchez or Freeman isnt drafted this year.. they will take thier chances next year…

and Hey, if they suck bad enough.. they can get Sam Bradford next season ;)

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

Come on people! This isn’t that bad.

    5 new young defensive studs:
    B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College
    Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC
    Ron Brace, NT, Boston College
    Sherrod Martin, FS/CB, Troy
    Paul Kruger, DE, Utah

    + Brian Dawkins

Just roll with Simms and Orton this year and you get a new QB next year, maybe even trade him for Brady Quinn.

This isn’t that bad folks. Oh and minus one cry baby…

  • kerry

oh forget Maualuga!! Raji and Tyson Jackson. fix the D-line. thats what McDaniels says he wants to do. Maualuga wont be a Denver Bronco. id bet any amount of money on that.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

McDaniels apparently likes Sanchez a lot. McDaniels and Mike McCoy are the top two best judge of QBs, lets they’re right this time.

I don’t exactly like this, but it’s still a whole lot, and the poison is gone from the team. This move will allow the defense to be resurrected if picked right.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

I’m with make. The more i hear the better i feel. If we have a good defense then who know. We still have alot of firepower on offense.

  • Roy

I don’t mind this trade. We get rid of someone that does not want to be here, and get a QB in return plus picks. If Orton does not work out, we have two 1st rd picks next year when there is a better group of QB’s coming out.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

    mark*

  • Joe H.

I’m with you Sox bigdog, once I got over the shock of it, it does sound like a pretty good deal. We get 2 1st rounders a 3rd round pick and a decent QB for a crybaby QB and our extra 5th round pick this year. It’s getting better by the minute!!!

  • Eric in Vegas

I don’t think we’ll go QB in the draft this year. Brandon Marshall is going to be suspended for half the season, so this season is a wash anyway. But with 2 first rounders next year, we’ll be able to get Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford, or Graham Harrell AND Taylor Mays.

  • AtomicLeo

Denver got the best deal they could. I’m surprised they received 2 #1′s.

No one knows who got the best deal here. Check back in 3-4 years. We don’t know how good (or bad) McDaniels will be with draft picks.

I’m not happy about this. We are not a better team today. We weren’t good last year either but at least we had a promising offense. Now we don’t have that.

  • broncojim

again…i live in philly…curt shilling and scott rolen were crybabies for the phillies and we traded them for a bunch of players and prospects and all of them turned to crap and the phillies were dung for years after that. after they got a good guy in the front office then it turned around. by the way, those crybabies won 3 world series between them. getting rid of the scapegoat will never make u better!

  • Jaiu

Raji just might be there at the 12th pick now:
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft09/news/story?id=4037535

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

    Please READ THIS ….

In 33 career starts, Orton has compiled a record of 21-12, including a record of 15-2 in home games.

If the reports are correct, the Broncos will have the following picks in the upcoming NFL Draft:

    1-12-12 Denver
    1-18-18 Denver (from Chicago)
    2-16-48 Denver
    3-15-79 Denver
    3-20-84 Denver (from Chicago)
    4-14-114 Denver
    5-13-149 Denver
    6-12-185 Denver
    7-16-225 Denver
    7-26-235 Denver (from Atlanta)

ORTON? was 21-12? … the Bear’s arent THAT GOOD are they? Or did we just SUCK that bad?

Orton meet me at the bar! :D

  • flbronc

look at what mcd did with cassell, if he has the same system here with recievers as good as new england shouldnt orton do at least as well? in 2006 if you were asked who you wanted to start on your team, cassell or orton- almost everyone would pick orton.

  • NathanH

What the hell you talkin about Graham Harrell? He’s projected to go 5th or later THIS year, not first next.

And McCoy is being grossely over rated and his deep ball is garbage right now, he’ll likely go late first early 2nd by the time reality hits a year from now for him. Bradford is a GEM though, and will go number 1 guarenteed imo. Next year is a VERY, VERY, strong draft though overall and 2 firsts will be extremely valuable to have, even if we choose to trade one of them.

I for one am very excited.

oh, and big news. BJ RAJI TESTED POSITIVE FOR WEED AND MAY DROP TO 12 NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • flbronc

dee- dont know how i missed the win loss in my earlier stat post… good point.

  • broncojim

the bears won those games. not kyle orton. how many times in those games did the bears defense score as much as the offense? kyle won’t be getting any support from this defense. wait til ole kyle has to throw 35 times a game against the defenses he will face next year. and what rb that spent the year on ir going to be as good as forte?

  • Eric in Vegas

Harrell will have his mettle tested without Crabtree this year. If he does well, his stock will shoot through the roof.

  • Raiders Rule

Bring on the Kyle Orton era! You are f*cking nuts if you think this is an upgrade. Simple rule of thumb, you don’t trade away a franchise QB. You just don’t. They are too hard to come by. And if you do, you don’t do it for Kyle Freakin Orton…Don’t believe his win-loss record because he had a dominant D.

Have fun chilling in the cellar!

  • TD30isMVP

    1) At least the drama is over.
    2) We really did get a lot for a guy that wanted out.
    3) The Patriot dink and dunk offense with the occasional heave downfield can be run with a less talented QB just like Cassell did.

  • MIAbronco

guys, do you realize that like pretty much every qb that came out as a junnior sucked. why the hell would we draft sanchez, that guy will blow, he had the best situation of any qb in college, he played at usc for christ sake, they havent churned out anybody in a long time.

mcdaniels system doesnt need flashy guys, and lets not forget that simms was pretty succesful before he got injured, he never put up huge stats but he fought till the ver end regardless of the score, when has jay done that, he was quittng on the browns game until that lucky eddie royal touchdown.

i still believe this team is improved from last year. think about this everybody, WHAT IF JAY WAS A SYSTEM QB? the guy had the best o line, one of the top if not the top reciever groups, and the guy still averaged more then 1 INT a game, i dont care about people saying he had no run game, you still gotta play smart. everyone talked about jay as a gunslinger like favre, well in the 52 years favre played he only won 1 super bowl.

we have yet to play a single game, so why judge mcd already?

  • stav

I have no problem with trade considering Cutler didn’t want to be here and put out those phony bs comments last night. If Cutler wanted to be a Bronco, he’d be a Bronco right now. Now that I’m done with that, I’m starting to agree with passing on drafting a Qb/moving up to grab Sanchez in the first round. First of all, there is a good chance Sanchez can drop to us, and I wouldn’t mind the pick, but the unspectacular Orton has shown he can start and win in the NFL. A healthy Simms may give him a push to up his game. Either QB now has very good receivers, even if one of them won’t be there for half the season. Simms/Orton is now behind the best O-Line in the NFL or atleast one of the top three. 50td’s from Brady and Cassel’s season last year, does McD know what he’s doing? possibly, we’ll find out. I don’t think we’ll be as bad as we might think just don’t expect playoffs. We should just stack up the defense with three of our first four picks. Defense gets you into the playoffs. And if we suck? we’ll have a top 10 pick and then another one in the 20′s. I’ll deal with it. Some guy on NFL network said, “It sure seems like the book has finally closed on the Shanahan era.” Yep, as sad as it may be, looks like it. Time for a new start Bronco fans, just be realistic on our 2009 season. 9 wins is overachieving, 8 wins possible, 7 wins probable, 6 wins underachieving.

  • broncojim

its dinnertime in my time zone so im signing off. i have bronco license plates on the front and back of my SUV. they are both coming off until josh mcdaniels is gone. he will be nothing without belichek and tom brady. im just broken hearted. what do i look for next year?

  • Blake

Honestly everyone can say this trade sucks! What idiots etc. The bottom line is that we draft well with these picks and get two stud first rounders it can be a moot point. It all depends on McD can draft. We could be set back for years or it could turn around and be an amazing deal. The jury is still out!

  • Ant

I don’t care what anyone says THIS TRADED SUCKS BALLS. You lose a Young Pro Bowl QB for Orton, 2 1st round picks and a 3rd. Come on people. Unless they draft two great picks that become pro bowl players we got hosed.

  • broncojim

the nfc east teams will al score at least 35 points on this team next year. stav, 6 wins? where are those wins coming from?

  • STLunatic

ARe you guys seriously wishing Cutler out??? You guys are retarded…Cutler is a gem and he has EVERY right for feeling the way he did…Bowlen takes a new head coach over an awesome QB like Cutler…Orton sucks, there WILL be another trade to get a real QB….I’m not a Broncos fan, but I would be crying if I were you guys…the only good thing is that you got a lot of picks back, Bears definitely overpayed….Orton and 1st and 3rd picks for this year was enough…the other 1st rounder was unnecessary….Shanahan leaves and the Broncos tumble….2009 record 6-10.

  • jdkchem

Kyle Orton is far better than Steve Ramsey. If you don’t know who Steve Ramsey is don’t bother commenting.

  • Steve

Im a bronco fan that lives in Seattle, and i just had to take my hat off down town because there were so many people telling me how dumb my team is for trading cutler…. IDK what to think right now…. this move was horrible… What the hell were they thinking?

  • myerda00

Kerry, your language forces me to notify the administrator.

  • JRODZ

If we use one of these first round picks to move up to get Sanchez, what good did they do us? He’s yet ANOTHER BACK-UP! We blew it.

  • NathanH

Steve, it was a very good move. We got a guy that is a great teammate at QB for a guy that didn’t care about his teammates. Thats enough for me right there, and then they added on a 3rd and two 1sts for us, so its pretty much a no brainer once the shock wears down.

If we draft right, we will prevail.

  • Trent

alright i am excited now. we have a qb that will work in mcdaniels scheme atleast for a season we have a ton of picks to rebuild the defense. maybe even a lineman. Hopefully the new front office is able to evaluate defensive talent better than shanny did.

  • Jordan A

    This is me crying……..

  • Moose

Come on guys this deal is great for the Broncos! This team wasn’t going to win with Cutler because the defense was so bad. Now you have tow 1st round picks this year and next! That is how you build a team . And what if they get Mark Sanchez in the 12th this year and a great young stud on defense theis year. They are going to be set! I know Orton and Simms aren’t the answer but Sanchez has been getting great reviews and the offense is ready made with a great young o-line, great receivers and good running game. And lets give Coach a chance to see what he can do with a quarterback here as he made Matt Cassel a stud! Do you really think Chicago is going to be better with Cutler. Their coaching sucks as Lovie Smith and Ron Turner have proven they can’t coach quartbacks. Hell Turner didn’t want Cutler out of high school when he was caoching Illinois university. The bears have no receivers. I have heard people saying Devin Hester is getting better but he sucks. They have a weaker o-line pass protecting. All they have is a good runner in Matt Forte and the defense is old and fading as witness last year. The bottom line here is that the Broncos got the best of this deal and I LOVE THAT NOW THEY CAN BUILD WITH FOUR NUMBER ONE PICKS THE NEXT TWO YEARS. Awesome! I Love it!

  • DaBroncos

The good news is that Josh Frickin McDumbAss will not be in Denver much longer—-how can 1 person come into CO. and F UP the only thing we had going—-Josh, want fries with that—get used to it—it will be the only job you qualify for after a 4 and 12 season!!!!!!!!! McDumbAss!!!!

  • flbronc

i just watched nfl live (had to dvr it and watch after dinner), and i am suprised that stink and dilfer both think that cutler is the second rated qb in the division… they both seemed to think that denver got the better of the deal, and that cutler is going to have a rough time being that 1. lovie smith isnt going to coddle him, 2. their ol stinks, 3. they have no legit #1 recievers- dilfer said they have 3 #3′s. Dilfer also thinks that orton will excell in mcdaniels system.

now i know some people are going to rip that apart (kerry)- but i’ll hold your opinion in higher regard after you get paid to evaluate the nfl and are more highly respected by espn than those guys and earn their spot on the air.

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

Is it possible to take this defense from 30th to top 3 in the next 3 years? Sounds crazy, but I do think it possible when you have that many top picks to throw at it…

And let’s not forget what else we got outta this trade – a new public enemy number 1. How great is it going to be to jeer Jay Cutler the next 10 years! Bad blood is always fun…

  • JRODZ

I think I’m calming down now…But what ever happened to the “Winning now” mantra they were throwing around? All we had to do was fix the defense & now we’re well on our way to be a full-on rebuilding team. Good times!

  • TT

I am a 42 year fan of the broncos and this is by far the worst trade in the history of the broncos. Josh Mcdaniels wanted Cutler gone from the day he was hired. I`m sure he must have not liked him when he was with the Pats.He has destroyed everything that we fans enjoyed watching in only three months .You would be doing us a big favor if you would resign. I do not think you are ready to be an NFL coach.,and I really doubt the rest of the team is going to lay everything on the line on Sunday for you .

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

Lets look at it this way guys. Now that we know were goin’ to suck next year, lets make it count. We are already turning into a luaghing stock. Lets pull a Detroit? Why not? Lets go 0-16 and than we will have the number one pick in the draft next year as well as Chicago’s 31st pick in the first round of next year (assuming that they will kick ass now). Ha, this team is becoming a joke. Now lets trade all of our picks we just got to get Sanchez, than lets pay him $100 mil instead of Cutler!! Nice!!! Man, I am not even lookin’ forward to playing Oakland, I’m just tryin’ to figure out a way to forget the rest of our schedule. Crappy season here we come!!!
    HAHA

    EAST MAKE YOUR MOCK!!!!

  • Don Clabaugh

This whole thing is soooo messed up Cutler was the best thing since Elway So DISPOINTED in The Broncos

  • JRODZ

Instead of trading up for another overrated backup QB, trade up and cock-block the Chiefs and grab Curry or someone else on Defense.

  • Broncosfanfl

McDaniels Better have a winning season Cutler gone Big BIg BIG MISTAKE

  • AKam

I love this team, but this whole thing was a huge embarrassment. We can’t even let our pride go for our franchise QB. He was only getting better and now we are left with nothing. I don’t want us to be the patriots. I want us to be the scrappy Broncos. Normally I can’t wait for the season, but I only see us in 4th place. Every other team in our division has a franchise QB. We have nothing. So stupid. We didn’t have to trade him. Return a freaking call man…wtf…If Bowlen really wanted him he could have found him. ..Cutler bluffed and we called it and ran with it…stupid…

  • TT

I forgot to say who the hell are we going to draft at 18 who is going to come in and be a Pro Bowler?

  • tower1970

So many people hollerin about Cutler. The problem was, is and fill be the snotnose coach that was brought in. Bowlen himself says Cutler “you’re the man, now” and the snotnose ignored him and still pursued a trade with Cutler, who I may add owns the franchise record for yards in a season. Defense was supposed to be the concentration this year. Now we have to figure out how to win without the pro bowler and no defense. And what the he** is Dawkins doing here? WELL DONE McDANIELS!!!!! I’ll personally engrave your head stone as former Broncos and worst coach in 3 or 4 years. Then we can get back to winning again.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

So who am I going to see in line to buy a Cutler jersey in Chicago colors?

  • Roy

The more I think about it the more I am excited about the prospects for our defense. If we can get Raji at 12, we may be able to get Vonte Davis at 18. Or even better, Knowshon Moreno. I think that could be huge. There is always the possibility of Pat White later too. This could turn out to be a hell of a good draft.

  • broncosfanfl

McDaniels better have a good season Cutler gone Big BIg BIG Mistake Cutler was the best thing since Elway

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

Did any of you hear about Raji failing a drug test at the combine? He must have new he was going to Denver

  • soxbigdog

The problem I have with Orton’s great record as a starter, its most likely that good for the same reason Cutler’s is sub- .500 for his career (only with the opposite result)

Orton only had to manage a team with a great defense, Cutler had to be the hero weekly for a team with a no defense…

BUT, and this is a big BUT, Cutler had offensive weapons which barring trades and FA signings he will not have in Chicago….

and Orton with be able to take some chances throwing the ball up for grabs with a guy like Brandon Marshall out there..

  • inrodwetrust

Why does this have to be so bad guys?
To get Cutler we traded our 15th and 68th position picks in 2006 (a 1st and 3rd rounder) For the trade (of a malcontent QB that was not going to play here no matter what in 2009, and a 5th round pick) we got two 1st rounders, a 3rd round pick, and a player chosen in the 4th round. That trade looks pretty good for the broncos on paper so far. Now factor in the relative lack of good QB’s in this years draft, and look at the 2010 draft class: Sam Bradford from Oklahoma, Tim Tebow from Florida, Colt McCoy from Texas, or Tim Hiller from Western Michigan. Any one of these guys has the potential to be a franchise QB in the NFL. We can sit back and build the Orange Crush defense this year with 2 1st round picks and a slew of late rounders, then address the offense next year with 2 more 1st round draft picks.

  • troyn

Kerry, I agree with you on the horrible outcome of this trade. However, you were constantly calling for the ouster of the greatest coach the broncos will ever have. This is all on Bowlen, who has exposed himself as an incompetent drunk, whose only success was due to the greatness of mike shanahan. Bottom line, if shanny is still here, we retain a great offense, address the defense in the off season and contend next year. Now, as much as I like Orton as a game manager with a great D, sorry, for one that ain’t broncos football, broncos football is a gun slinger that takes chances and wins the improbable such as Elway and Cutler. I will take the guy that slings it and throws the pick over the guy that is a too cautious system guy everytime. Bowlen through his drunken arrogance and Mcdaniels through his incompetence have now set this franchise back years. I have only left one team in my life that I have supported, that was the Phil. 76ers when they in essence traded Moses Malone, the #1 pick(brad daughtery) for roy hinton and a injured jeff ruland. They could have had Julius Erving, Moses, Charles Barkley, and Brad Daugherty all on there front line, but incompetent management led to no championships since 1983. I chose to follow my favorite college player M. Jordan and got to see many championships. The broncos are my team since 77, but I will not put up with the Al Davis like incompetence that they have shown this off season. I am not a fair weather fan, but if they desert me, what choice do I have?

  • broncosfanfl

It’s how it all went down that is bad to loose Mike and Jay in one year bites I really liked them both

  • jcampb72

With the bears easy schedule and our hard schedule it wouldn’t surprise me if they went to the playoffs and we get hosed. 7-9, but im really excited for the draft.

  • broncosfanfl

man I do love the Broncos I do agree with you about Bowlin and McDaniels but once a Broncos fan Always a Broncos fan ut I Am Very DISPOINTED in the Broncos

  • jcampb72

All you cutler haters out there, are you happy with the trade?

  • Broncosfan4life

Well, as Bronco fans, I’m sure we’re all crying in our microbrews or at least scratching our heads in disbelief about now.
One thing’s for sure, we got a good look at Cutler’s true colors, and as Horvil might say-”Hey guy, it not prettys”.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Mc D can build a Cassel out of Orton.

  • robtink242

i would rather Cris Simms start over Orton. no comment on the trade. move forward. but hey Chi-town would big this is there new Mike Jordan. i’m pretty sure we’ll be getting a QB next year.

  • jcampb72

Just think, we could have got matt cassel, but now we get kyle orton, who I think is as good or better than cassel, and 2 1st rounders and a 3rd. I think we did alright.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)
  • broncobobmeridian

ATTENTION ALL YOU BRONCO BASHERS!!!!!!!!!! ITS TIME TO FOCUS ON THE FUTURE…..WE ALL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. If our defense is ranked in the top 15 teams, with the offense that we will have, we just might surprise a lot of teams. I bet Cutler doesnt make the pro bowl next year.

  • jcampb72

If you got comcast NFL network will no longer be on comcast as may 1st. go to http://iwantnflnetwork.com/ to get special offers

  • flbronc

tryon- under shannahan we were a ‘gunslinger’ team…. for better or worse he got shown the door. and for better or worse, we brought in mcd… who has a game maanagement mentality/system. our identity is changing as a team. cant say i like it that much either, but it is the reality of the situation.

we can sit here and bitch about how much we hate it, but the trade happened. if you are not going to root for the broncos, then thats fine. as gene hackman said in hoosiers ‘i’d hope that you’d support who we are, not who we are not’.

  • Mike4Denver

Buh-Bye Crybaby Cutler. I wouldn’t be surprised if Denver sends the Bear’s 2010 1st round draft pick and Kyle Orton to the Browns for Brady Quinn in a matter of days. Let’s think about this, we’re not shocked about losing Cutler but, Mc Daniels has a lot to prove. Why would he trade a franchise QB for a backup QB. There has to be something else to this decision. This trade makes no sense AT ALL!! You are not just going to trade a Pro Bowl QB for a nobody and not have a underlying reason for it. I think in the end, this will benefit Denver. GO BRONCOS!!!!!!

  • champ2203

First off Kerry people are always busting on you for your comments because you say how you feel when you’re pissed off and I find myself agreeing with almost everything you say. I feel the exact same way dude. Not just on this post.
All I keep hearing about is draft picks, draft picks, draft picks. We traded a ridiculously talented QB for a backup at best and draft picks. Has anyone ever heard of Ryan Leaf? Draft picks don’t mean shit, especially when you have no common sense Josh. Anyway let’s get Orton a flannel shirt and a number 16 jersey to go with his beard and we have Plummer back. This trade was a joke. Anyone that thinks otherwise must be smoking the same shit as Raji.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

This trade needed to happen because Cutler wasnt going to work with McD. If the Bears miss the playoffs in 2009 the trade is a failure for them, how many of you believe they will make the playoffs this year? Have you seen their offense? Their Line, their WR’s ?

    Prediction:

The Denver Broncos will have a BETTER record than the Bears.

whoa I’m a bronco fan in the Bahamas surrounded by Cowboys, Dolphins and Steelers. I’ll never switch teams. thats not cool but i dont have to like the direction i see the team headed.

  • Mike4Denver

    Dee –
This trade did need to happen, one for the simple fact that Cutler asked for it and then when Bowlen said he was trading him, Cutler changed his tune and said he didn’t want to be traded. Maybe Chicago will have a diaper big enough for him and enough tissues for his tears. He is a big baby.

  • BroncBo

Jay Cutler was exactly what the Broncos needed… A face that we could be proud to call our own. Now the closest thing we have to that is Ryan Clady. I hate this move. This is a QB’s league. Look at recent Super Bowl winners. All had franchise QBs: Roethlis, the Manning Bros and Tom Brady. At 25 Cutler was already a franchise QB. Orton will never be a franchise QB. I hope Shanny and Cutler get reunited in Chi town. When we finish 4th in the AFC west next year McD will be run out of town fast than you can say Mike Shanahan.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

Come on Mike, Cutler did not change his mind. He’s trying to save face… if he really did change his mind why didnt his agent convey that to Pat Bowlen…. The whole ” I want to stay, I love Denver” is trying to save face for the fans …. its over he’s gone, and I am glad this episode is over.

I believe in this team and still believe in McD … can we let him coach a game before destroying him. We need to now stop going back to Cutler … its over .. he’s gone , lets move forward….

  • juice

Ok, first i’ll eat crow: I said I thought it would be Cutler for McNabb, I was wrong.

Second: I’m glad its over with – getting a 3rd round pick is actually good value – Bronco fans are just not used to that because Shanny couldn’t draft.

Lastly, this is what I would do: Sit on pick 12 this year, if Raji falls (he may, he got busted for drugs in his system at the combine) – take him – if Sanchez or Stafford falls – take him. Take a QB that falls to us (even if its the 2nd or 3rd round… And if no rookie QB falls to us – then next year trade the two pics into the top 5 and get McCoy or Bradford or whoever else emerges…

  • Mike4Denver

    Dee-
If you didn’t want to be traded, why ask for it. McDaniels has gotten a lot of grief already and I agree with you, let’s move forward. Let McDaniels prove what he can really do for the Broncos. I don’t think Pat Bowlen would have hired him if he didn’t see potential in him. Let the man run his team…thats what he was hired for.

  • Awesome, Austin

Not too bad of deal for the broncos, the baby is in the NFC too, so that is good. IF ANY thing though having a great QB proves that it does nothing for winning championships. Got to have D and that is where the B’s are headed with this draft/trade.

  • broncos4life

How can one guy screw up one team so bad, so quick!? Unbelievable, Pat Bowlen and Josh McDaniels, aren’t those the two guys on dumb and dumber? Way to take a proven loser from a team that never really believed in him either. Hence that is why we got him and 2 1st rounders. Do all you guys really think that he is that good, comparing his win loss to Cutler. Give me a freakin break. How many games did I watch last year where the Bears D and special teams 14 or more and you’re going to tell me that Orton won those games. Gimme a freakin break! These two idiots have set this franchise back for a while. While it may be a defense that gets you to the playoffs, you gotta have some offense to win the big one. How many Superbowls did the Orange Cruch D win? It wasn’t until you got Elway and T.D. there that we were able to get the big one done. Orton is a proven loser and this new coach hire will prove far worse than the Wade Phillips era. Thank you Pat and Josh! IDIOTS!

  • BroncBo

dee sounds like mccain with all this lets look forward not back talk. McD is single handedly destroyting the most promising team in the league. It is no simple move. We wont have another quarterback like Cutler for years.

  • http://www.kellyleephipps.com Kelly in Carolina

I’ll enjoy watching Cutler play for the Bears, and I’m happy we got the draft picks…although I wanted Quinn..but hey who knows what might happen next!

I’m excited about watching the Broncos Defense finally stop some people next year, and glad I won’t have to watch Cutler sulk on the sidelines anymore, at least not in Orange & Blue!

I went to NFL.com and watched footage of Kyle Orton uner the teams link in the Bears, and hey, he looks pretty good. He was hitting receivers left and right, bad receivers. He does look sorta Plummer Cave-manish…but hey, PLummer got us into the Playoffs and beat the Patriots, so what will this guy do!

Can’t wait to see how they round out the team in the draft!

  • broncos4life

Come on people, wake up! Stand up for your selves and the Broncos. Trade him that is fine, but Orton? PLEASE FOR GOD’S SAKE WAKE UP!

  • OC Bronco

We got a QB from the team with the absolute worst QB troubles in the game the past 5 years. Are the Bears better today? HELL YES!

We got draft picks. Kids that haven’t played a down of football in the NFL and may have multi-million dollar bust all over them. Are we better today? HELL NO!

I am not the biggest Cutler fan but he is an obvious talent and no doubt one of the top 10 QB’s in this league….. at 25 yrs old. He would grow up which is what he needs to do. We are in every game with him whether he loses it for us or not with a pick.

How could Bowlen let this shit happen? Seriously. HOW?!?!?

This is not good people. The best we can hope for…. Cutler sucks in Chicago with a bad supporting cast and no Shanahan. Of course, the windy city is already talking about hiring Shanny next year. But if Cutler is solid, I will hate every Sunday for now until he retires.

I am sick to my stomach.

“best deal they could have gotten”

I’m done on this issue…. lets move to the draft now.

  • jcampb72

Moving on…..12th I doubt we take sanchez. In recent years the Pats have taken a late round QB. I think, since B.J. failed a drug test, B.J. will fall to us. So B.J. at 12, then I would love to see moreno at 18 or Malcom Jenkins. Maybe even Rey M. or Tyson J. if their on the board.

  • kerry

    MeyerOO:

oh no. dont tell the board administrater i used naughty language! did that upset you?? did that hurt your feelings? are you as hurt as Jay Cutler?? are you gonna demand a trade from this site to the Raiders site now? if so please do immediately! i dont give a good god damn if you tell the board administrator. go ahead. better turn in half the people on here too snitch.

hey some moron is using my name is using my name and putting an “S” next to it. get your own damn handle you fucking phony!! dont use my name.

  • kerry

    Champ2203:

careful. dont agree with me too much or people will say you arent a bronco fan and they will report you to the board admin if you say naughty words. yes this is a terrible deal. a horrible deal. draft picks dont mean shit. we dumped a pro bowl QB for a backup and draft picks. if we could have gotten Brian Urlacher instead of Kyle Orton then it would have softened the blow a little. if Raji and Tyson Jackson are drafted then thats a start.

  • Anthony33

    What’s done is done.

Stick with Orton for this year and use the leverage of 2 picks next year to get one of the four QB’s coming out in 2010.

Maybe they can package #12 and their 2nd round pick to move up and get Curry. Not sure how all that vlaue stuff works, but Curry is the best rated defensive player in the draft. Raji might fall to 18 with the stuff that came out on him. Curry and Raji…cool if they could pull it off.

  • Anthony33

    oops ‘value’

  • broncoNM

This is the best value we could have gotten…We knew cutler was out the door. We have 4 first round draft picks in the next 2 years. I obviously dont think Orton is the answer but i dont see the broncos drafting sanchez or freeman. We might grab a QB in the mid rounds. My guess is that we will have Orton and Simms battle it out for the top spot. Next season is going to suck and it could take us 3-5 yrs to rebuild…but if we draft wisely the next 2 yrs we could be in the playoffs quicker than expected. You build a great team through the draft and thats what the broncos have to do now. McD’s system does not require a rocket arm stud QB…This is the best deal we could have gotten. We know when Bowlen announced that he would be traded that cutler would not be here. We have a shot now to overhaul our old, rundown defense.

Side note- Cutler will do ok in chi…but it wont be as easy. He has no WR’s and the NFC north has some decent defenses he will face. He wont have our young Oline too.

  • SanDiegoBronco55

dude. ef cutler if he was going wine and mop like a bitch…id rather have orton, a good locker room guy, then a guy who has started more off the field problms since hes gotten here than playoff appearances (like 4 to ZERO!) Hes got all the talents and is a stud, yeah. but if McD can get Cassel to have a great year…why not get Orton or Simms? u know? we have 4 1st rounders the next two years…I think we’ll be fine in the long run…I hate Cutler…Colin Cowherd on the the Herd said with his alcohol drinking and diabetes problem that he will barely last 3-4 years in the NFL…interesting statement…we’ll see…cant wait for the draft…GO BRONCOS!

  • JRODZ

Here’s an interesting side note: Ron Turner will be Cutler’s new OC in Chicago. Before that, he was Head Coach at Univ. of Illinois where he turned Cutler down on a scholarship offer out of high school in Indiana. Nice Karma! Have fun boys!

  • http://bclevenger@gmail.com BC

As a native of Chicago. There’s no one in the NFL I’ve picked on more for incompetence over the past few years than Kyle Orton. He is, quite literally, the worst starting QB I’ve ever seen. I was really holding out hope this trade would turn out well enough to keep me on board. Kyle Orton is the worst possible answer. Granted, the 2 draft picks could help , but having Kyle Orton on your team is not the answer to trading away Jay Cutler. It’s just so…depressing. I’ve thought about it all day and there’s just no way I can root for this team. I’m taking a year off, going to root for the Texans(Who are more the Broncos I know than this team in Denver.) Which is a sad day for me (Dog’s name is Elway, dad has a bronco head tattoo. It’s more than a fairweather thing.)

“Yeah, Come on Orton! Win this one for McDaniels!” Nope, can’t see myself saying that. Can you?

  • broncoNM

rotoworld.com reports that a deal that would have sent Quinn and some picks to denver fell through at the last minute…Bears swooped in and sealed the deal. We could sit here and do “what ifs” all night…

  • BroncoinVA9986

the best thing that denver can do is draft defense with first three picks and then find an avaliable rookie for qb in a late round start kyle or Chris for next two years and train the newyoung wildchild

  • utah bronco

This just in McDaniels out as coach too. I wish…. This the worst day in Bronco history. Period

  • BroncoinVA9986

it has to be about defense and a new swagger on this team…..no more worrying about your QB’s blood sugar….remember kyle ORTON is 25-12 as a starter…..remember its not about gunslinging and winning pretty….its about wins time to copy the steelers mold

  • utah bronco

In some bar in this great country of ours, I’m pretty sure Shannahan is laughing his A$$ off and is glad he’s not involved with this circus anymore.

  • fresno bronco

I’m with SanDiegoBronco55. Good riddance to Cutler. Yeah, he was our pro-bowler but he didn’t want to be a Bronco anymore. Seems like this was the best trade possible. It’s not like we were going to get a Peyton in return. At first I was shocked, but now it’s looking like da Bears overpaid. Hoping now that McD can work his Cassell-magic on Kyle Fucking Orton, but I’m not holding my breath. Trading up for Sanchez sounds more appealing.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

All the Cutler haters out there, do you think Kyle Orton is the answer? Do you see him taking us to the playoffs? Wait a second. Did anybody see his ass in the probowl last year? No?? How weird. What was the fans and league thinking by not adding him to the probowl roster? Oh yeah, you have to be good to go there. Orton is not. He has a defense, and a serious return threat in Hester. Orton sucks. Simms sucks. Jay is the man. This orginization is going to shit. How are you guys “Tired of this and are looking forward?” This is kind of a big deal. Ya we got draft picks. But wtf are we going to use them for? We just gave away a FRANCHISE quarterback. Now we gotta go search for another one. But where do we get one? The draft? Oh wait, we can’t. Stafford won’t be there at twelve and Sanchez is not worth it. And lets piece more pieces to this puzzle together. If we trade our picks up to get Stafford or Sanchez, we are going to have to pay him a shit load. So why would we not just have given the proven quarterback all the money instead of giving it to a unproven rookie? I have been a die-hard Bronco fan for years and years now, but this draws the line. Drunkass Bowlen has just taken a few steps in becoming the next Al Davis, and dont even get me started on McD. He is an idiot. And i’m sick of hearing this “Lets watch him coach a game first before we bag him” What has he done? Got us some defense, a good and a couple of washed up runningbacks, and than trade away our main, best player on the team. Wow, this guy is going to be great. This orginization is going to hell. I can’t wait for Jay to come back to Denver in the preseason and hand us an asskicking from hell. Than I hope he looks at McD, along with all of the fans looking at McD, and I hope Jay flips him off and says F*** you, scoreboard. Than I hope all the fans turn that into a chant of F*** you McDaniels. But hey, one can only dream right? Lets hope that when Jay’s contract is up in 2011, we will not have McIdiot at HC and we can sign him to a billion dollar deal. Strap on your seatbelts fans, were in for a long F****** season!!!

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

I just can’t wait to hear the chant from the opposing crowd at our away games chanting “Its all over (clap, clap, clap, clap, clap) Its all over…..(Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap)..”

  • JRODZ

I wonder how long it’ll take McDumb-Ass to sell the Cutler #6 Throwback jersey on EBAY? What an ass!

  • Jordan C

Of course I’m a huge fan of Pat White, but here’s an idea –

Extend Orton for a few years on the cheap (he’s only making $1 million this year) He and/or Simms will play much, much better under McDaniels. Trade that player away next year and then package the two first rounders for Bradford next year.

Bradford (a pocket passer), more than McCoy (a running QB) and Tebow (a running QB), really fits what McDaniels does. The guy is more than legit.

If not Pat White this year, then Bradford next year. I’m very skeptical of every other QB prospect out there. I’m intrigued by Graham Harrell if McDaniels can teach him to take a snap from under center without dropping the ball.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

The more and more I hear about this and reallize that this is not one big, bad nightmare, the more pissed off I am getting. I hope this team sucks. I want them to pay the true price for getting rid of Jay. I hop it takes years before they find another franchise quarterback. I will always follow Jay and will always rather see him succeed than McDaniels, no matter where he is at. I hate McDumbass with a passion. He better be able to pull a trade to get Tom Brady or Peyton Manning now, or I’ll hate the motherF***** for as long as he is in Denver

  • roshon2411

Well two first round picks was more than i thought they could get, but so much for everyone saying it would be like ebay and be a bidding war. Yeah it was like ebay but Chicago was able to use the buy-it-now and get free shipping. Hey but at least McDaniels wasn’t dumb enough to trade him to an AFC team, that way Cutler only breaks their hearts every three years. Looking at the schedule for this year I see four wins. Kansas City, Oakland, Cleveland at home and Cincy on the road.

  • roshon2411

Also, think Cutler shows up for the pre-season game this year? If I was him I would either tell Lovie Sith I’m playing the whole game and we are passing everydown or act like i’m going to play, let the game sell out, then not make the flight out. I’m a Broncos fan thru and thru but Chicago just became my second favorite team.

  • john

As a lifelong Bears fan I’ve got to say my first reaction was actually disappointment. I like hard-working local guys and Kyle Orton is one of those. He actually played very well last year. The number of drops were unbelievable! The short of it is, Kyle Orton knows the game of football and is in the best shape of his life. With a first class operation like the Broncos I think he’ll thrive and will probably have better stats than Jake. Hopefully we’ll meet in the playoffs.

  • jcampb72

John, we would have to meet in superbowl

  • Nicole

    My, my, my!
How quickly alot of people have decided that they don’t hate Cutler after all. Like I said, it took us 6 qbs to find another one and you dealt one. I also told you that being angry with Jay was temporary and you wouldn’t like the end result. I also told you that he wasn’t going to Detroit so that he could be spited by alot of people. Draft picks are just that-picks and this draft is weak. i wasn’t saying all that stuff for nothing-now you see. NOW, all of a sudden, people are letting out their anger at the front office-the SAME one that you wanted to SEND him to Detroit. The Bears front office has the personnel to handle anything and they did what had to be done- Denver could’ve at any time turned the tide, but instead, beat on their chests and proclaimed this is it. Well, to all of you that have all of a sudden decided that we didn’t get a fair shake in the qb department-don’t flip the script now! I am glad that Jay is in Chicago and their team is committed to him- THAT’S WHAT HE WANTED FROM YOU! Like I said, be careful what you wish for because you just might get it. You are now YEARS awayfrom doing anything and YOU CAN’T BLAME ANYONE ANYMORE. More people will step forward and sign with the Bears- this is one of the happiest days of my life: Jay is going to a team that wants him. ALL YOUR MANAGEMENT HAD TO DO WAS GET IT DONE-DRAFT PICKS MEAN NOTHING WHEN YOU’RE LOSING AND PAYING TONS OF QB’S FOR ONE JOB. Stop passing blame-put it where it belongs!

  • flbronc

how come everyone keeps harping on this ‘do you think that orton is the answer?’ question/demand… nobody i have seen has made that claim here and i have not heard the organizatoin make that claim either. we made a trade and got a player and some picks in return. dispite what some people keep saying here, he’s a decent qb and has some aspects of his game that are actually better than cutler (ex. td/int ratio). is he going to be the face of the franchise, i doubt it but can he do well in mcd’s system? probably. face it cutler and shanny are gone (i wish they were both still here) and mcdaniels and simms/orton are in.

  • Anthony33

    Hey Bus, uh Nicole
Let’s see what happens when his contract comes up.

  • Anthony

All I have to say is that jake Plummer wasn’t even half the quarterback that Jay Cutler is/was for the Broncos. But the difference between Plummer and Cutler unbelievably is that Plummer WON GAMES. And as a true Bronco fan that’s the only optimism I can get from getting Orton is that he won games and was a great leader and now we have the draft picks to build a defense.

  • Anthony

F*ck Sanchez for now. This year we go with Orton and see what he can do and strictly use the draft on building our defnse and running game. Then next year we will have the opportunity to draft Sam Bradford or Colt McCoy. Everyone relax, I haven’t been able to sleep for the past little while either, but everything will be alright.

  • shell

For 10years i have watched, and learned and loved Denver as my die hard husband got me into it. I felt a personal loss with Shannahan. I was willing to give this Jeff Mcdaniels a chance but the season hasn’t even started and im not at all interested in watching this team anymore. This new “coach ” came in with a ego that wasn’t earned yet and handled this whole thng like a jr high team. Cuttler is a professional and deserved to be treated with respect. All McDaniels did in my eyes was show me hes a j…..ss and has no head coach potential!

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

    Anthony,

At the his retirement, Jake Plummer was the 3rd most winning quarterback behind Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Cutler is 17-20.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

    East

Cutler is 13-1 when the defense gives up 21 points or less.

  • Jon Krause

    hey guys get this:
Bus Cook was found in dead on a back road in Chicago, and Josh McDaniels wife and kids were killed, and McDan is missing and the Broncos got a note that read:

‘Trade for Jay Cutler and Josh will live’

  • Jon Krause

you may wonder how this can be? ’cause McDan was just seen on TV, well that was not a fake, no no, you could see it all over his face, the kidnappers let him go ’cause they did not want it to get out about them(who knows why) so anyways they told him to act normal and where to meet them when if it was over, and if he did not then — he’s a dead man…

till the broncos trade for Cutler Josh will be held captive, and will never EVER live a normal life

  • flbronc

went back to look at the 13-1 stat to see who the victories were against… and for the life of me i can only find 12 that we held them to 21 or less and won…. here they are

    2008
    oakland
tampa 16-13 not a huge scoring day
atlanta 24-20 good win agianst a playoff team
    ny jets
    kansas city

    2007
buffalo 15-14 all the kicker there
    oakland 23-20 again the kicker
    kc
    tenn. young out threw cutler…
    kc
    minnesota

    2006
    arizona

like i said that’s 12… who did i miss? by the way only atlanta 2008 and tenn 2007 made the playoffs. five came against kc and oakland.

  • roshon2411

    flbronc,
Good point, Young out threw Cutler when they played. You might want to read that again, VINCE YOUNG OUT THREW JAY CUTLER. Did you watch the game? Vince Young, guy who was replaced by Kerry Collins because he’s horrible, threw for 300 yds and rushed for 70 yds. That shows you how bad the Broncos defense was during Cutler’s tenure. However, you are also the person who complains that Cutler makes too many bonehead plays. Well in that game Cutler was 16 for 21, 200 yds, and two tds. Pretty solid stat line to me. You think going threw 8-8 seasons with Shanny was bad. Denver is two first round bust from being the doormat of the NFL for the next decade.

  • flbronc

roshon- dont know how long you have been around here, but i dont believe i have ever bashed cutler for making too many mistakes. nor did i want cutler to be traded. i was up in arms after we fired shanny. the only aspect of this team that i have bashed was the defense last year, a point which you brought up that i very much agree with you on.

i am simply making the case that the world did not end when we lost jay cutler. the previous post was simply to show that the stats (especially the 13-1 stat) are somewhat decieving.

would i rather have jay on our team, yes. unlike others around here, i believe that we can win without him. people throw around stats (yards, wins, etc…) trying to make cutler to sound godlike and that there is no way we win more than five games next year. how close were we to a five win season last year?

  • roshon2411

Yeah Denver was a couple of games away from being 5-11 but you could say that about every team, every year. They could have been 11-5 too. I think that stat is more of a statement of how Cutler was able to pull out the close games. The 13-1 stat is deceiving but it was a stat in response to everyone saying Cutler’s record as a starter was 17-20. Denver can win without Cutler but not with this team as of today. I don’t think 2 first round draft picks are going to change that either. Big Ben, Eli, Peyton, Brady,Brad Johnson, Dilfer, and Warner, this is the list of SB winning QB’s since Elway retired. All great except for Johnson and Dilfer and both those teams had incredible defenses. I have my doubts that McDaniels can build a defense of that caliber.
