The Denver Broncos finalized their 53-man roster Saturday, releasing 12 players, placing Josh Bell on waived/injured and signing DE Vonnie Holliday. Players released today include DE/OLB Tim Crowder and RB Darius Walker.

By our count, this left 54 players. Then we remembered that Brandon Marshall‘s suspension technically ends tomorrow, so until then he is not included in the 53-man roster count. Expect another announcement tomorrow.

Your 2009 Denver Broncos 53-man roster, after the jump.

Quarterback (3)
Kyle Orton
Chris Simms
Tom Brandstater
Cut: Ingle Martin

The Broncos keeping three quarterbacks is no surprise. Will they bring in another with Orton/Simms hurt?

Running Back (4)
Knowshon Moreno
Correll Buckhalter
Peyton Hillis
LaMont Jordan
Cut: Darius Walker, Marcus Thigpen

Disappointed that Jordan got the nod over Walker, but he does have the size and blocking edge. And stop and think about it – it’s the fourth tailback. Best of luck to Walker landing on another team.

Wide Receiver (6)
Eddie Royal
Brandon Stokley
Jabar Gaffney
Brandon Lloyd
Kenny McKinley
Chad Jackson
Cut: Nate Swift, Matthew Willis
Reserved/Suspended: Brandon Marshall

Marshall will return to the active roster, and the Broncos will need to make a move. I’m guessing Brandon Gorin, but we’ll see. Could be LaMont Jordan, Chad Jackson or Josh Barrett, too.

Tight End (3)
Daniel Graham
Tony Sheffler
Richard Quinn
Cut: Marquez Branson

Do you think Branson was upset after hearing Jeb Putzier say on the radio that the Broncos told him they were only keeping three tight ends with a preseason game still to go? Like, “What am I, chopped liver?”

Offensive Line (9)
Ryan Clady
Ben Hamilton
Casey Wiegmann
Chris Kuper
Ryan Harris
Seth Olsen
Russ Hochstein
Tyler Polumbus
Brandon Gorin
Cut: Kory Lichtensteiger, Clint Oldenburg, Mitch Erickson
Injured Reserve: Matt McChesney

Hochstein can play just about every position on the line, and with injuries to Hamilton and Kuper, he may have to.

Defensive Line (7)
Ronald Fields
Kenny Peterson
Vonnie Holliday
Le Kevin Smith
Marcus Thomas
Ryan McBean
Chris Baker
Cut: Carlton Powell, Nic Clemons, Matthias Askew, Everette Pedescleaux

I love the Holliday signing. If he stays on pace with recent years, he could be the best defensive lineman on the roster.

Linebacker (9)
Elvis Dumervil
D.J. Williams
Andra Davis
Mario Haggan
Robert Ayers
Wesley Woodyard
Spencer Larsen
Darrell Reid
Jarvis Moss
Cut: Tim Crowder, Lee Robinson, Braxton Kelley

This is Moss’ last chance.

Defensive Backs (9)
Champ Bailey
Andre Goodman
Brian Dawkins
Renaldo Hill
Jack Williams
Alphonso Smith
David Bruton
Darcel McBath
Josh Barrett
Cut: Tony Carter, Rashod Moulton, D.J. Johnson, Antwain Spann, Vernon Fox, Josh Bell

A lot of quality special-teamers in this group.

Specialists (3)
Matt Prater
Brett Kern
Lonnie Paxton

I’m excited to see if Prater can keep his hot streak going beyond Week 8 this season.

Eat some crow: I posted my 53-man prediction yesterday. I didn’t foresee the Holliday signing, so had Carlton Powell on my list. I thought Marshall would be listed, so had to cut someone else – that person was T Brandon Gorin (and if I had to put money on it, he’s the guy I think is gone tomorrow). Those surprises aside, I had Walker instead of Jordan.

Justin Miller was released from the Raiders. he is a good return man who had two return TD’s last year. we should get him. i cant believe Haggan made it.

  • MikeY55

NFL.com say marcus thomas the DT was cut

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

    NFL.com is wrong. :)

  • kerry

so which Marcus Thomas was cut then?

  • Gerry B

I also think that Lamont Jordan should have been cut. We’ll see if McDaniels lets his pride get in the way of the decisions he makes. He made a lot of smart cuts from the Shanahan regime but will he be able to admit to his own mistakes?? Like Lamont and Andrea Davis? I like what I’ve seen out of the defense this year….hopefully we can get the offense turned around….it would be nice to see us run the ball like we have in the past and keep the ball out of Orton’s hands.

The running back named Marcus Thomas. Yeah, didn’t play much.

Kyle you’re awesome. Thanks for getting this up so quick.

  • OC Bronco

Marcus Thomas the DE is on the roster.
I don’t understand the wait – No real surprises. Maybe no surprises at all. We kept 7 WR based on Marshall’s situation and Gaffney’s injury so Jackson stays (for now) and Josh Barrett proved himself on STs so it was great to see him make the squad……

Kory Lichtensteiger is a surprise to me.

  • roshon2411

Well correctly picked 51 of the 53. I missed on Kory Lichtensteiger, Carlton Powell, but no big surprises. One more to eventually come when Brandon’s back on board. But i’m sure will see a couple more swap outs shortly. I agree with Kerry on Justin Miller, good ST and backup DB. Also, would like to see them bring in Jeff Garcia, or Shaun Smith from Detriot. Rosters are down, now lets get healthy for Cincy!!!

  • BroncoinVA9986

zach thomas was cut today…wow…I am glad to see Chris Baker made the roster loved watching him at Hampton

  • robtink242

    Zach can easily replace M.Haggen.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

Oakland traded their 2011 first round pick today for NE’s Richard Seymour, according to Adam Schefter. Wow. Thats an upgrade.

  • areferee

If Darius Walker clears waivers, (unlikely), look for him on the taxi squad. Kory L. may be hidden away somewhere if he clears. David Tyree a possible addition because of BM uncertainty with McKinley the out man.
