Denver sports radio station FM 104.3 The Fan has fielded “several reports” stating that wide receiver Brandon Marshall was seen at Denver International Airport boarding a plane to New York. This comes in light of reports today that the New York Jets are seriously exploring the possibility of trading for the disgruntled Marshall.

Adding fuel to the fire, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Denver Broncos would only be interested in trading Marshall if Jets LB David Harris was part of the package. Note that Schefter reports that the Broncos want Harris in any trade situation, not just a two-team trade with the Jets.

UPDATE: As ready broncoNM shrewdly points out, The Fan might also have been referring to the New York Giants. They have posted a picture on their web site of Giants private jet at Jeffco airport.

Is a deal for Marshall imminent? Let’s dig deeper.

Earlier today, Head Coach Josh McDaniels said that there were “no discussions whatsoever” involving a Marshall trade. He also emphasized that the team is looking forward to Marshall rejoining the team on September 6th.

Vic Lombardi gives his two cents this evening, saying the Broncos trading Marshall would be illogical (I agree). Lombardi also makes a very interesting point, noting that Marshall reached out to former Bronco Rod Smith and has been working out with the Mile High legend during his suspension. Maybe the wide receiver is finally – FINALLY – taking steps in the right direction.

Finally, The Fan has a history of jumping the gun with these things. Very recent history. Just last night, the station helped circulate a wild rumor Tuesday night from Scout.com websites that the Broncos were involved in a three-way trade with Arizona and Kansas City. The report didn’t have any legs.

Combined with the fact that no one has corroborated The Fan’s story tonight, and I’m not buying it. How many listeners would it take calling into the station reporting that Marshall was on a plane before The Fan runs with it? Five? Less?

Could it be true? Absolutely. Schefter’s word is gold, and so if the Jets agreed to the terms he laid out (Harris and a third round pick), Marshall could very well be on a plane. But until someone of caliber can confirm, I’m skeptical.

Would you be happy trading Marshall for Harris and a third round pick, as reported?

Marshall for Jets LB David Harris and a 3rd round pick?

Let’s get this thing done with. Time to move on and get the guys who want to play a shot at getting to the playoffs. NO MORE DISTRACTIONS!! Get down to finalizing the team and moving forward. We start the season in less than two weeks.

Ya I’m sure a fan saw him….and I’m also sure that I saw john elway interested in my neighbors three bed room house….or maybe it was a guy with a similiar hair cut….or just maybe were both crazy. This “fan” did not see shit at the airport. And the elway thing is just a joke…he couldn’t afford to live in my neighborhood…LOL jk…

Lets do it… seeing marshall go would be tough but a true 3-4 LB could bring this defense to new heights. We are deeper at WR than we are at LB and we are talking about a young versatile MLB to team up with DJ… along with dawkins and champ behind them. The 3rd round pick will give us ammo for the draft next year… This would obviously be a defense first team which is fine. There was a good chance Marshall would be gone anyways but i like the idea of not just getting more draft picks but getting a proven talent to help the spine of our defense this year. Harris has a cheap contract which is a huge plus when you consider if the jets offer a 1st rd pick we gotta worry about paying 2 first rd picks again.

    I dont buy into this.

  • broncoNM

If they are reporting a deal with the jets than was a NY Giants jet at jeffco?

Another rumor which is being thrown around 3 team deal Den / Cle / NYG Denver gets from CLE QB Derek Anderson and from NYG one of the following WR’s Domenik Hixon, Sinorice Moss, or Mario Manningham…..CLE gets from DEN Brandon Marshall and from NYG a 2nd or 3rd round pick…..NYG gets from CLE WR Braylon Edwards. I’m sure this isn’t going to happen just a wild story someone made up but I could see the Broncos looking for another QB and Anderson is an upgrade over Orton. One problem with the story though is the pic of the NYG private plane at JeffCo. We will see!!

I would rather trade for Thomas Jones. I think we are deep in LB. We have Davis, Williams, Dumeril, Ayers, Woodyard, Larsen. At running back we have old slow guys. i know Jones is preety old but he doesnt play like he is 32. Instead of just getting a 3rd we could possibly get that and maybe even a 4th. This is just my oppinion.

  • SanDiegoBronco55

i love to hear Rod is in there….i hope thats true…please!!!! but that plane at Jeffco made my stomach crawl up a little…god why do i give a shit about this!!!!!! effin broncos why do you make me care so much!

  • Steeplebomb

I don’t like this (assuming its got legs). BroncoNM made the point that we are deeper at WR then at LB and thats true. But I think Marshalls importance to the offense is more than that. With Orton’s questionable long ball, I think a Randy Moss-esque threat is very important to our offense. We need a threat that spreads the field vertically. Otherwise, our opponents are just going to pack the box, which stuffs the run and stops our dink and dunk slot passes.

    Kyle-
Didnt mean to make it sound like i was calling you guys out… I thought that The Fan had confirmed that it was the NY jets so i thought them posting the picture was contradicting their own story…

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

I heard nothing about the Giants but heard plenty about both the Jets and David Harris while I was listening. While interviewing Vic Lombardi, they were throwing around the Marshall-on-a-plane story as fact. Vic was quick to slow them down, said something like (paraphrasing) “just because people said they saw Marshall doesn’t mean he was there.” Vic went on to say he didn’t think Marshall was being traded or was going to be traded, echoing the article I linked there.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

I’m with Kyle. I really dont think that there is any truth to this one. I really don’t see it happening. And If McD is dumb enough to lie (again) to the fans then he is putting a bullseye on his forehead. I hate to say it but I’m going with McD this go around. With the exception of BTalk, the media is freaking ridiculous.

  • lolcopter

marshall isn’t a deep threat. never has been

get this trade done. shore up the front seven and get a first day draft pick for an immature malcontent. you know marshall doesn’t want to be here now, or long term, anyway. win, win.

  • JRODZ

Make it worth our while and kick the Jets in the nads…Ask for Sanchez & Davis if they want him so bad. McDumbass & Xanders need to get something big out of this mess they created. It’s gonna be a long season!

  • Tom9798

    Joe . . . LOL . . . . must be a nice neighborhood . . . . I feel like you do that this is BS . . . McD said this is BS . . . and if we should all find out that it is not BS . . . I will lose the last 2% of faith I have in McD . . . .

As long as we are talking rumors and BS . . . .

    I can see Shanny sitting on the beach in Cabo San Lucas between golfing the front nine and back. . . . . making $11,000,000 of the Bronco’s money this year . . . thinking . . . wait till’ I take over the Dallas Cowboy’s next year . . . . . maybe the playoff’s? . . . . maybe a Superbowl? . . . .

    Juanita . . . . maybe a Sunrise with a shot on the side . . . .

  • anthony33

You have to be dumber than a box of rocks if you think the image of that Giants plane was actually at a Denver airport.

This is getting ridiculous. 104.3 is a joke.

FYI On 8/31 a buddy of mine stated
“I heard this from a source I trust. There has been talk of a three way deal involving the Giants, the Browns, and the Broncos. Marshall to Cleveland, Anderson to Denver, and a Giants’ WR plus a draft pick for Braylon Edwards. The Broncos have started ball rolling on this so to speak. I’ll update when I have more information.”

    1. “D.I.A. employees were told that an NFL player was coming through to board a plane to New York”. Could it have been Mark Schlereth? He’s subbing for Golic on that horrid morning show ‘Mike & Mike’ today.

    2. The fan pic of the Giants plane @ Jeffco: Maybe NBC runs a strict employee policy, so Phil Simms hits up his buddies in the Giants front office to see if they’ll do him a favor and fly him out to see his son?

Who knows – These are just the 1st things that came to mind when i heard theses rumors. Rumors – Fun news when there isn’t anything real to talk about…just like in my office.

IMO: i think the Broncos should give Marshall the time and space to think everything over. The time being the whole season, and the space being the bench.

Hey, If McDaniels’ says we’re not trading him, then you know we’re trading him…

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

Do we really need another LB? Dumeril looks like he’s going to figure it out. Spencer Larsen looks just fine to me. Actually Larsen looks real good to me. DJ Williams, well you know he’s solid. Is Robert Ayers already deemed a bust? Jarvis Moss, Woodyard, Davis, Crowder, Haggan… Do none of these guys cut it?

  • thatpilotguy

I’m going to call BS on the Giants plane being at BJC (Jeffco Airport) Wednesday. The plane has been repainted with the new logo on the tail. I’m not sure where they dug up that old pic, but the Giants plane has been running around in new colors for several years now.

    http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photo/167311.html

  • broncoNM

Of coarse this team could use another LB…

    Doomer and DJ are great

Ayers is a lost rookie (not a bust)

    Haggan is servicable

I know nothing about Darell Reid but he seems like a solid back up along with woodyard and Larsen

Andra Davis is an old, slow Cleveland cast off that will only be hear one year anyway.

Moss and Crowder probably wont make the team and will never see the field

Our LB Corp has 2 ligit starters… maybe 3 if ayers makes huge strides. Non of these guys are familiar with the 3-4 defense. Harris is a true 3-4 LB that could help anchor this D.

  • http://myspace.com/paraleipsis jchase8410

that is all fine…if we were running a true 34 defense. The base defense that they have played all preseason is more of a 52 with the “OLB’s” playing right on the line as more of an upright DE. The OLB’s that we have are more like true DE’s than LB’s.

  • roshon2411

Harris and a 3rd, just doesn’t cut it for me. Harris and a 1st sure. Denver needs to find a way to get back in the first round next year and ta chance to go after Bradford, Snead, or McCoy.

  • stav

Harris and a 2nd – they’ll never get Harris and a 1st, just too stupid for the Jets to do.
