With Elvis Dumervil and the Broncos currently in a contract dispute, we figured the team would lean on Jason Hunter in 2013 if Dumervil left.
Uh, about that.
Turns out that Hunter, a free agent, has signed with the divisional rival Oakland Raiders. Â Had he stayed in Denver, Hunter likely would have been a rotational rusher this season.
The Broncos have improved the interior of their line by re-signing defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson and signing defensive tackle Terrance Knighton to two-year deals.  But if Dumervil does not agree to restructure his contract and is released, defensive end will quickly become a position of need for the team.
Obvious candidates to replace Dumervil are Dwight Freeney and Osi Umenyiora, while Shaun Phillips could also come into play.  Of course, if Dumervil agrees to restructure his contract before Saturday, when his $12 million 2013 salary becomes guaranteed, Denver won’t have to worry about finding a replacement.
Now, we wait. Â Your move, Broncos.
