Update:  Bush has signed a four-year deal with the Lions.

There will be a lot of these types of posts, especially over the course of the rest of the week. Sorry I am not sorry; it is time for actual football news and let me be amongst the first to welcome you to NFL Free Agency 2013.

First, a rumor from early yesterday, in a tweet sent by Omar Kelly of the (see how they don’t capitalize the ‘the’, unless it is at the beginning of the sentence?) South Florida Sun-Sentinel; a plugged in full time NFL beat writer who focuses on the Miami Dolphins — specifically via the Miami Dolphins Blog. Kelly states that your Denver Broncos are the favorites to land the highly coveted free agent running back Reggie Bush, Kelly also included that the Arizona Cardinals (who are apparently jettisoning two of their running backs from 2012) and the Detroit Lions, who have been linked to Bush since it became apparent that Miami would allow him to walk, are also in the conversation:

Mike Klis of the unofficial Denver Broncos PR team (the Denver Post) fired back:

Of course the Broncos are putting out that word. If they were actually not interested in Bush wouldn’t it behoove the team to feign interest in Bush in order to drive up his price and waste the time of teams who may be in competition for other running backs that Denver is actually interested in? I hear that they may be interested in Rashard Mendenhall for his apparent willingness to be a team player and split time in the backfield. Heck, if the Broncos are looking for running backs who are coming off of career altering surgeries why hasn’t anyone connected the dots to Ahmad Bradshaw yet? Man, would I love to see Bradshaw in a Denver uniform…

But wait, there is more!

So, as an officially unaffiliated site of the Denver Broncos, I will go ahead and state the Bush is in fact Denver’s to lose. He will be a Bronco soon, barring some type of disagreement on money terms. Heck, longtime offensive coordinator of the Peyton Manning offense in Indianapolis and current offensive coordinator for the Cardinals (Tom Moore) is. Why wouldn’t the current offensive coordinator of the Peyton Manning offense be?

Bush just makes too much sense in the Broncos quest to become harder, better, faster, stronger (and no that wasn’t a Girls reference, it was a Daft Punk reference, via Kanye West, via Kim Kardashian) — he is what Denver hoped that Ronnie Hillman would become when the team drafted him in 2012. The former second overall draft pick has lived up to that status at several points in his career only to be set back by injury or a packed backfield. Coupled with the already dangerous Manning offense and Bush out of the backfield — the Broncos offense would be outright deadly.

What do you think my friends? My main concern is hitting, ‘Publish’ on this fast enough for me to say, ‘I told you so,’ just kidding, I would never say that...

Honestly, this move makes zero sense, unless we pay him pennies on the dollar. I just don’t see how this improves our team at all.

  • TheTroglodyte

Bush is a very good blocker and route runner that can also play the slot. He will never be a great inbetween the tackles guy but he has improved that area of his game to be ok.

    Plus he can return kicks.

I doubt he’s going to command a ton of cash so I would welcome the versatility he can bring to the table.

  • cdubarkansasrep

Do not, and I repeat do not sleep on him. With a spread open offence this kid can and will do great damage. You have to remember why his stats werent as high as the should have been. Name me a Wr off the Miami squad last year…….. Exactly teams were putting everybody in the box and he still had some great games. Peyton will help Bush’s career tremendously and before anyone says it. Yes Bree’s is a great qb, but the N.o says No to running the ball. When they do the spread the carries between three different backs. So it’s hard for a Rb to break out look at Ingram since he has been in the league.

  • Pete Baron

Unless the front office is going to cut Hillman, this move makes no sense. We already have a Reggie Bush type on our team, even though he can’t pick up a block to save his life. If we cut Hillman by 2pm, I can see this making sense. If not, then this would be a head scrather on the level of taking Moreno #12 overall.

  • MrEast

Well, he’d immediately be the best running back on the team. So there’s that.

  • MrEast

So you’re saying that the Broncos have a Reggie Bush that can’t catch, block, or gain yardage consistently?

  • MrEast

    Exactly.

  • cdubarkansasrep

    Beat me to it….lol

  • LEMarkley

Bleacher report had an interesting article about why teams shouldn’t pay Bush what he thinks he is worth. Mostly, he relies in his declining speed too much and misses the obvious holes and makes mistakes because he isn’t instinctual enough.made me rethink his true value.

  • Pete Baron

No, I’m saying we have a Reggie Bush who can’t block as well as Reggie Bush. Hillman can get the same yards as Bush (go by his NFL effectiveness, not USC effectiveness). He can catch out of the back field. He can do what Bush can do minus block as well (and Bush isn’t exactly a fantastic blocker). That’s why this makes zero sense. I’d rather spend a 4th round pick on a RB in the draft than have this overhyped POS who’d rather focus on his Hollywood image than football effectiveness.

  • http://twitter.com/amcfarla Aaron McFarland

but I think there are other areas that need addressed before a change of pace RB, and didn’t we draft Ronnie Hillman last year for that? Adding another back like that doesn’t seem to benefit us. Mendehall or Stephen Jackson makes a whole lot more sense, than Reggie Bush.

  • Pete Baron

Agreed. I think anyone who is excited about the prospect of getting him is simply living in the past and remembering him at USC, not in New Orleans or Miami.

  • MrEast

Mendenhall is not that great. He believes 9/11 was a conspiracy as well.

Jackson has seen more miles than Jack Kerouac.

Reggie Bush wouldn’t be the every down back, but he would be the most down back. He would also provide that X-Factor on offense that Denver is seriously lacking.

  • MrEast

Hillman can rush for over a thousand yards?

You have no idea what you’re talking about, per usual.

Reggie Bush was a leader and an extremely hard worker while in Miami.

  • Pete Baron

Well, Reggie Bush had exactly 1 year with over 1000 yards, and it wasn’t last year. Last year he had 980, which is close. All the other years? He’s been in the 300-500 rushing yard range. You sir, are thinking about the Reggie Bush during his USC days, not the Reggie Bush in the NFL. I’m not the one who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I’m the one who is living in reality.

Besides, we’ll never know if Hillman can rush for 1,000 yards until he’s given the opportunity. If Hillman had the starting position the same way that Bush was, I can virtually guarantee that he’d rush for 1,000 yards.

  • http://twitter.com/badimo badimo

Reggie Bush is garbage. You guys are dreaming…

  • dogheadbrew

Bush, Jackson, Mendenhal, Greene. I really don’t care anymore as long as the Broncos have a back that can stay on the field, get 4 yards on 1st and 10, 3 yards on 3rd and 2, and keep Manning from getting cut in half. Thank you for your time and I will take my response off air.

  • MrEast

Yes. I’m thinking Reggie Bush is 22, this 2005, and the Broncos open up to Fresno State this season. What a great argument. What a reality you’re living in.

The reality is Reggie Bush worked really hard for the last two seasons and he produced good numbers for a pretty bad team with no passing game.

I’m not saying the Broncos should break the bank for Bush, but he would be the best running back on the team immediately.

  • Pete Baron

Yeah, but that’s like being the smartest mentally retarded kid. It’s nice, but hardly anything to brag about. Any of the top 6 or so RBs in the draft (many of whom will be available in rounds 3-4) are better than Bush, and they’ll be rookies, not 7 year vets.

  • Pete Baron

    Amen!!!

  • Pete Baron

So Jackson is really the only one worth taking. Mendenhall perhaps, but he is injured and has never been a very good yards per carry back on a team that emphasizes the running game…. I’d still love to see Montee Ball over the lot of them.

  • LEMarkley

Taylor of Stanford would be a great pickup and could be there in the third round, which makes him super affordable. He is a great pass blocker already, and knows how to catch. He would come in as the best RB in the team. He also already plays in a pro style offense.

  • LEMarkley

He was good enough at USC to get him drafted second, but he never really impressed me. And he couldn’t close in Miami. Why do you think they put Thomas in in goal to go situations?

  • Alphabeatsoups

I Say No! We don’t need a shifty RB! We need a power RB!

  • MeOMy

I don’t see why Denver would make this move. He fills the role Denver drafted Hillman for.Yes Hillman struggled on blocking. He has training camp to improve on it. The cost of Bush doesn’t justify the increase in production Denver would get over Hillman. Bush needs to play on a run first team not a pass first team.

Jackson is the only RB in free agency that fills Denver’s RB needs. Mendenhal and Greene are over rated.

  • Pete Baron

You’re right on the money. Like I was saying, this draft is littered with RBs that would be better for us than Reggie Bush. Taylor is among those backs. I wouldn’t mind him at all.

  • Pete Baron

I was beginning to think I was in the Twilight Zone in this tread. lol. Finally, people who are seeing him for what he is and not what he was in college.

  • Pete Baron

Preach it to the choir brother!!! lol

  • Doom92

Yeah I have to agree, although in some ways I’d rather see Mendenhall or a big back with a hard running style you are right Reggie would add an element to this O that we’ve not seen in a long long time. Plus we might actually use him and I think he did actually show that he “can” run in the middle. As pointed out before just about everyone stacked him and he still did well.

  • Doom92

    Nail head…

  • Doom92

Hillman isn’t even close to Reggie Bush… I think you have finally lost “all” of your marbles…lol.

  • Doom92

    Nail head again…

  • Doom92

Hands down he’d be the best on this roster by a mile and a half…

  • Pete Baron

Beside 1 or 2 punt returns in his career, name me the impact Bush has had in this league? Again, you, like East, must be superimposing his USC highlights into his NFL career. Bush is AVERAGE AT BEST. Nothing more.

  • Doom92

Well first off telling me what I’m actually thinking about is pure arrogance and ignorance on your part. The is no way you could ever do that and be right. You said we already have Reggie Bush and I think that is a a flat out stupid statement. Whether or not he has made a “statement” in the NFL or not doesn’t matter on little bit, I never said he has but he is hands down a better player than Hillman and I will tell you now that Hillman will never do even what Bush has… So just because you can yell it doesn’t make it so. So going forward think twice before telling me what I’m thinking, you don’t have a clue…

  • Pete Baron

Dang Doom. I didn’t know my attempt at humor would anger you like that. But Bush is average at best. Remember his rookie year and ask yourself if he was any better than Hillman. I think absolutely not. And you know what? He’s only gotten marginally better. Not to mention he’s 28, which is within reach of the dreaded 30. Bush has no business on our team. None at all.

  • LEMarkley

I am not sold on Hillman, and am actually a little angry that the broncos could have gotten Morris or another RB that could have had a much larger impact much more quickly. But Bush is one of the bigger 2nd overall pick disappointments. And he is only getting older. Don’t see him doing all that well from here on out.

  • Daddy Tebow

I want us to keep the streak of going old all the time.

  • Paradisimo

And the first free agent signing…Louis Vasquez!!

  • TD30ismvp

He is not even visiting us yet.

  • http://www.facebook.com/michael.gibbons.509 Michael Gibbons

What about Reggie bushes receiving ability. Hillman was criticized in college for his hands. Bush has some of the best hands for an rb in the league. And his route running made some people believe he could play slot.

  • Paradisimo

Word is that Dumervil has accepted a pay cut with Broncos. Keep your fingers crossed!!

  • anthony33

Excellent pick. #2 FA guard according to Walter Football. And only 26 years old. Sweet

  • Paradisimo

I don’t know much about him but sounds like a power blocker who should strengthen the right side of our line. Also sounds like this may be the end of Chris Kuper.

  • http://twitter.com/Crintleod Sage Rodriguez

How friggin stupid. An even smaller RB. I thought Mendenhall was bad…

  • areferee

Broncos sign Louis Vasquez, Right Guard.

    Height:6-5
    Weight:335
    Age:25
    College:Texas Tech
    Hometown:Corsicana, Tex. Experience:4

Vasquez (6-5, 335) was a four-year offensive guard with the Chargers.

Louis Vasquez gave the Chargers a tough and physical starter at right guard, who had formed a solid bond with center Nick Hardwick and right tackle Jeromey Clary. Vasquez bounced back from an injury riddled 2010 season to start 14 of 16 games in ’11, while helping the Chargers rush for 1,864 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Vasquez is 6-foot-5 and 335 pounds. He hails from a family with a steep and rich boxing background, including his grandfather, after whom he is named. Vasquez has even done some boxing himself.

For all of you who think that Ronnie Hillman is as good as Reggie Bush, you are obviously taking advantage of legal marijuana. Hillman is a bust. Bush will not be the featured back if the Broncos get him. A backfield that rotates Bush and perhaps a Mendenhall would be formidable. I don’t think either back will command outrageous salaries so it could happen.

  • http://www.facebook.com/michael.gibbons.509 Michael Gibbons

Bush has 565 rushing and 742 yards receiving with a combined 9 touchdowns 6 rush 2 rec and 1 pint return(added 216 PR yards)Hillman had 327 rushing and 62 receiving with 1 touchdown. So 389 total yards 1 TD compared to 1458 total yards and 9 TD. I would say reggie had a much better rookie year. It’s not all about the running that reggie provides its the pass catching combined with peyton which could be very useful

  • Pete Baron

You’re making the mistake of comparing OVERALL seasonal stats. What you are overlooking is that Bush was given every opportunity to play like the USC All-Star that he was. See, with opportunity comes more touches… With more touches comes more opportunity to find a rhythm which leads to more opportunity to break off better gains and have more impact on the game. So no, you are nowhere near close with your assessment. Look no farther than the Ravens game when Moreno went out in the 2nd quarter. Hillman got an opportunity, and he did really really well…. Pass blocking aside, he looked better than Reggie Bush has at any point in his career. So leave those weak seasonal statistics at home, cause Hillman never got the opportunity to have the ball as much as Bush.

  • Pete Baron

I agree, mendenhall is not great, mot very good, or even good. He’s decent at best.
