Between now and Saturday the 16th, something is going to happen with Elvis Dumervil.  The Denver Broncos have several options.

On Saturday, Dumervil’s $12 million 2013 base salary will become fully guaranteed, and Denver has no intention of paying that much for his services.  The Broncos want Dumervil to take a pay cut and are threatening to cut him if he doesn’t.

Meanwhile, the team appears to be interested in Dwight Freeney and Osi Umenyiora as possible replacements.  Dumervil and his agent, Marty Magid, haven’t talked to the team since Friday, leading ProFootballTalk.com‘s Mike Florio to speculate that the team may be planning to move on without Dumervil.

What Dumervil and Magid may hear is, “Thanks for the memories.”  Now that they know what Dumervil will take, the Broncos have been able to spend the last two days finding out whether they can sign Dwight Freeney or John Abraham or Cliff Avril or Osi Umenyiora or any other available pass rushers for substantially less that Dumervil is willing to take.

An ideal situation for Denver would be trading Dumervil and signing a similarly productive rusher at a cheaper price tag.  Whether that will happen remains to be seen, but something—a pay cut, trade, or Dumervil’s contract being restructured—will likely happen by next weekend.

On a different note, we passed along a report earlier today that the team is interested in New York’s Darrelle Revis.  The team is now emphatically denying that report through multiple media outlets.  Somebody is bluffing.

This is all senseless talk! I just can’t accept the notion that the front office would cut this man! You give this line a DT that disrupts from the interior and Dummerville or Miller would get sacks on dang near every play.

How would cutting or tradeing him make your line better? I agree to restructure and hopefully use that money to address the interior of the defense!

Agreed. With his next 2 years of his contract becoming 10 mil, then 8 mil, I would restructure his contract and keep him. He’s young and is a long term fix at that position. None of the options listed above are producing at Doom’s age. I pray that he stays!!

I’m with both of you guys…

I agree, it would be retarded to lose Doom. Talk about taking a step backwards, it makes no sense whatsoever. I don’t mind bringing in Osi or Dwight for depth, but in no way should we even think about parting ways with Doom. The only thing I wanna see in free agency is putting Steven Jackson on a one year. Draft the rest! Thanks John:)

And I’m with all three of you! Sure will be an interesting next few days!

Trade the man to Seattle, and we’ll see you in the SuperBowl! Go Hawks!

The broncos trade the good players and pick up lousy players, They will get rid of dum and not get someone that is his caliber.
