One thing has become clear during Manning Watch — Twitter is a tough forest to navigate. There is a virtual ton of pundits and experts out there, claiming to know the inner workings of the Denver Broncos‘ visits with Peyton Manning and the Hall of Famer’s mindset in general. Knowing who to trust on the social media monster is half the battle.

Here’s one person on Twitter you can definitely trust — John Elway.

The Broncos’ Executive Vice President of Football Operations posted the following updates regarding the team’s visit and workout with Manning in North Carolina on Twitter Friday, making it clear that Manning did in fact throw for the Broncos today, and that, while a contract hasn’t been hammered or possibly even discussed, things are moving along:

We enjoyed visiting with Peyton today in N.C. He threw the ball great and looked very comfortable out there.

Watching him throw today was the next step in this important process for our team and Peyton. It was a productive visit and went well.

I find it encouraging that Elway is willing to talk on the record about his visit with Peyton, and think that the fact the Broncos have seen him twice is also an encouraging sign. Today’s developments were encouraging, but we all have to be patient — Manning might decide to take even more time to decide where he wants to play the rest of his career.

Did your updated information enlighten you regarding the salary cap?  Did your smarts prevent you from making the stupid Manning is just greedy he has enough money comment?  You make an awful lot of accusations and claims yet you still look like a moron.
To paraphrase the Iron Lady, “If you have to say you are then you’re obviously not.”

You’ve never been to Nashville in the fall or winter then.  Or San Francisco for that matter.  As far as weather goes neither is any better or worse than Denver.

  • virginiabronco

I hate to see Hillis go.  Royal never seemed to get his footing last year.  Quinn probably needed to leave after last year and his most recent comments about last season.  All in all, I think all can be replaced.

Denver + Manning = Best team in the AFC West. You are correct. However, man, our schedule looks pretty prutal, if not more so than the 49ers.

49ers have: Cardinals, Rams, Seahawks in their division
Broncos have: Chiefs, Chargers, Raiders in their division
Advantage: Push. I say divisions are about equally good/bad

49ers have at home: Bears, Lions, Giants
Broncos have at home: Steelers, Texans, Saints
Advantage: Push. Again, all of these teams are great, and only getting better. Take away the (could be) fluky Lions and Texans, and the remaining teams are all legit superbowl contenders.

49ers have remaining at home:Bills, Dolphins
Broncos have remaining at home:Browns, Bucs
Advantage:Push. Man, Vegas would hate me. The Bills showed flashes last year, but so did the Bucs. The Dolphins are a mess, and will probably land Flynn, who is this year’s version of Kevin Kolb, so they won’t be a factor. The Browns stink and lost Hillis, but they have 2 1st round picks, so who knows. Either way, these are the “should win no questions asked” teams.

49ers have away:Jets, Patriots, Saints, Packers
Broncos have away:Ravens, Patriots, Bengals, Falcons
Advantage:Again, Push. Man, these teams are brutal any way you slice it. The only possible non-brutal teams are the Jets and Bengals. Other than that, the remaining teams are going to be picked by people to make it to the superbowl. This is the away portion of “murderers row” so to speak

    49ers have remaining away:Vikings
    Broncos have remaining away:Panthers
Advantage:Push. I almost put advantage 9ers because Ponder looked horrible for most of the games he played in, but they do have ADP and a great (but aging) defense. The Panthers have what looks to be a great-in-the-making-QB in Newton, but a shaky defense. This is why it’s a push.

Overall Schedule Advantage: There is none. Both teams play 1st place schedules, and as it stands right now, they both appear to have about equally as difficult paths to the playoffs. While the overall win percentage for 1 team’s schedule might be higher or lower, remember, when looking at the “winners” from the “losers” in terms of who you are playing, the win percentage doesn’t really mean anything. If you were playing the colts last year, and then the Packers at any moment in the 1st half of the year, you’d have a combined opponents percentage of .500. 1 team you “should” beat, and 1 team you “shouldn’t” beat. However, if you played the Patriots and the Vikings, their combined percentage would be higher than .500 even though 1 team you “should” beat and 1 team you “shouldn’t” beat.

Remember, this is also the schedules for next year with information that we know at this moment in time. Things change as we all know, so what looks like a world beater now, might be horrible next season (like the Colts were), and a team that looks like a doormat, might be the surprise up and coming team to make the playoffs (like the Broncos were). So trying to base a decision on what the schedule looks like in March is pointless, which is why I seriously doubt that Manning pays any attention to it. I think he’d put more stock in the AFC vs NFC aspect only because there is a chance he’d have to knock Eli out of the playoffs before they met in the superbowl. But again, that’s just my opinion.

  • virginiabronco

I couldn’t agree more.  I doubt this season’s schedule is high on Manning’s agenda when deciding where he will spend the next 3 – 5 years.

  • AtomicLeo

Love Royal but he needs to play with a QB that can throw to a tight spot. Something that we have not had since Cutler left. Hate to say it, but Hills is a headache. Al he got was 1year deal. Quinn will push Cassel. Wish him well. He was screwed over by McD.

  • colorancher

All this drama is pushing Alex Smith to possibly go elsewhere. Do you blame him? If the niners don’t land Manning this could be bad for them. And we could have the same problem!! What will we do? Draft Weeden?

When did BT change from BroncoTalk to Bitchy Trash?

There is a level of anger and competitive trash-talking on these pages lately that, although seemingly inherent in today’s society, are a discredit to the hard work of the founder of this blog site and his colleagues and certainly to its many readers.

Their work and the enjoyment of many of the followers of this Website are being inundated with these unwelcome and unnecessarily personal tirades and vitriol, such that I am looking forward to receiving more Spam e-mail, so I can have something more welcome and interesting to read.

Take it to the streets girls and leave these pages for those of us interested in the Broncos.

You really are retarded aren’t you? I mean, honest to God, you really are retarded, aren’t you?

I’m not a contract lawyer, which is why I said I’m not exactly sure what
the NFL/CBA can do about such a contract. That has nothing to do with
my understanding of accounting or how these things work out. To get my degree, I do have to take law classes and business classes, so I know a thing or two about such things, but when there are $1,000+/hour lawyers who still cant agree on such things, only a moron would say that they know for certain that Manning could or could not sign that sort of contract. You however, appear to be exactly that flavor of moron.

Again, you have given NOTHING in the way of evidence or facts or solid ground to base your arguments. Instead of challenging anything I’ve said, you simply say I’m wrong and attempt to make fun of what I’m saying. That is your only defense, because you have no other way to try to disprove a single word I’ve said. It’s the typical “so, members of the jury, I have shown you the evidence. You have his fingerprints on the weapon, you have the security footage of him breaking in and murdering the victim, and you have the neighbors as eye witnesses who saw the whole thing. you have seen the forensic evidence showing the gunpowder residue on his hands, and the victims blood on his clothes. There is only 1 verdict here, and that verdict is GUILTY.” to which you would say “yeah? Well fuck you!” and expect that to actually change the jury’s minds. lol. It’s like arguing calculus with a 5 year old (you being the 5 year old). I can lay out the questions, the answers, and the steps of how to get there, but you (or the 5 year old) just lack the simple mental capacity to understand.

Again, come up with actual PROOF, EVIDENCE, or FACTUAL BASIS to refute even a single word I have said that is incorrect, and I’ll admit that I was wrong. But again, for about the 10th time, I’m gonna make a prediction, and that prediction is that you will not offer any such evidence. Instead, you will only say that I’m wrong, and try to make fun of my statements in order to make you look right. And like always, you will be the one looking like a complete moron. I don’t even know why I waste my time answering you. I actually feel like I’m picking on a mentally challenged person, and that just feels kinda dirty.

And this is a reply to your most recent post, even though when you are emailed, it will show that I’m replying to something else. I did this because the comment window was getting to narrow.

I know I’m guilty of this when it comes to JD”I’m a marine and therefore know more than even Einstein”KChem. Something about him pushes my buttons and makes me see red. I’ll try to cut it out though. I’ve expected to see a “you’ve been banned” next to my name a few times in my responses to him. lol.

Sorry it’s diminished the enjoyment of these forums for you and for many. I kinda let my temper blind me to the enjoyment that these forums should provide.

I’ve always thought that we misused Royal. I don’t think it’s so much the QB throwing him the ball so much as it is he is just not being used in the role that he should be. He’s fast… very fast, which is why he should be more of a slant receiver (Welker) instead of a run up the sidelines receiver. For whatever reason, we have never really played him like that. Sure, we do sometimes, but not exclusively. If the Chargers play him in the slant type role, he’s gonna dominate the NFL like Welker. If they try to have him replace Vincent Jackson, then, like in Denver, Royal will disappear.

  • NMBronc

Except for the spelling contest.  That was hilarious, even if you had said it to me.

  • AtomicLeo

He’s fast but he can’t block out a defender like Marshall or TO he needs the QB to throw a a quick strike in stride. We haven’t had a guy that could do that since Cutler e. I completely agree with you. If Rivers can get him the ball he will tear us and everyone up.

  • NMBronc

Just have a feeling, PM is not coming to Denver.  Either way, I would have thought we would have signed a few other players by now at DT, ILB, CB and maybe WR.  Would have loved Solai and still hope that McClain and Warren are signed….at a minimum.

There is one thing out of all those posts which has my head spinning…I am perplexed and flabbergasted…my world as I knew it is turned upside down…A Marine with two degrees, WTF!? All the rest I will chalk up to a Sqid and Jar Head arguing which is about as natural as breathing.
We live in fame, go down in flame, hey nothing can stop the US Air Force!!! Woo hooooooooooo!

That’s awesome! How the hell do you even remember that?

It was a Tombstone reference. lol. I couldn’t resist. I love that movie.

It’s just what happens when people are passionate about their team and have differing opinions. Passion breeds intensity and intensity breeds debate. Debate is easily turned into argument especially when it’s in the format of the written word because intentions behind the words are often misunderstood by the person reading it.

A joke can be easily taken as an attack for instance.

Things will calm down once Peyton makes his decision.

  • Anonymous

Yep. You’re right on the money. It’s those quick slants that he can excel at. And you are also right that it hasn’t been since Cutler that we did this, however, I’m not sure it’s the QB’s fault as much as it was the scheme/coach’s fault. Remember, when Shanahan left, so did Cutler. In walked McD and orton. Then in walked Fox and eventually Tebow. I think that had Cutler stayed, Royal would have still disappeared, because he simply wasn’t being used correctly.

Air Force? Oh shit, don’t get me started…. lol j/k

  • Tom9798

Thanks Trog . . . When the planets align with the 39 brain cells I have left, it becomes clear as yesterday! lol

  • AtomicLeo

I think we were in the lead until Tennessee stepped in. Too many lifestyle perks (his college ties, his wife being from Tenn., future FO job) to compete against. But I don’t blame them for trying.

As far as the other FAs out there, they had a contract ready for Mario Williams, but he never left Buffalo once he got there. Solai was disappointing. Especially since the money Miami offered wasn’t that impressive. I think Buckley is asking for too much, they been trying to get him signed since the season ended. Will be curious to see what NO offers him. Those three guys are the only ones besides Manning that I wanted to see them chase. Other top FAs just wanted too much $$$. Most of these guys are on the market for a reason. They all have baggage and issues.

  • AtomicLeo

I wish I could believe that but this will continue until the Broncos find their guy at QB. This crap has been going on since Cutler replaced Plummer.

  • AtomicLeo

You know gives me nightmares? We have no one, I mean NADA, on the D right now that can handle him. I’m not looking forward to the SD games this year. Mini-me of Wes Welker.

If Alex Smith leaves the 49ers (he’s visiting 2 teams), the 9ers NEED Manning, cause they’d have nobody else. They’d be left no choice but to jump feet first in the Manning pool.

  • Anonymous

Make that 1 team. Flynn is a Seahawk.

  • Anonymous

A couple of wishy-washy thoughts in my own confused head.  # 1, did Tom Condon say hey Alexis listen, you are no longer going to be the quarterback for the 9ers, so you better start looking elsewhere, or is this more of a frustration move by Smith to go talk to the fins? Is Flynn signing with the Seahawks going to put more pressure on both Miami and San Fran to hammer something out with Smith faster than they want to?

  • virginiabronco

Absolutely correct Trog!  Just Bronco fans displaying passion and frustration.  Do the originators of this site desire for us to take that passion elsewhere?

I do want to add that judging by the large number of comments, I don’t see any evidence of diminished enjoyment.  One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Aref, I am not even sure I have seen you comment until now.  I am a fan of your comments and have said so many times but I don’t see serious evidence of “vitriol” here.  Maybe you are just have a bad day?  I for one have looked forward to ALL the comments and I hope they keep coming.

  • King

I lived in Nashville for 2 years (2000-2002).

You’re insane if you think that Denver’s weather is comparable to Nashville.

  • virginiabronco

a quick look at any weather service table will illustrate that Denver has the coldest weather with average hi’s and average lows 10 to 30  degrees colder in Nov, Dec and Jan when comparing to nashville and SF.  Only Denver measures significant snow fall in each month.   A little fact checking  always helps.

  • Anonymous

The Glanville quote illustrates my original point perfectly.  Which was, in this day and age, you don’t have the luxury of building for the future, it’s “win now, or you’re out of a job.”  Nobody gets a five year plan anymore.

How did it work out for Glanville?  Well, not to well obviously.  His prediction came true…he was bagging groceries (or the NFL head coach equivalent) within a couple of years of saying that.

Your retort was f*cking senseless.  If you can’t figure that out, then congratulations…you’re a moron.

  • Anonymous

    You’re a brick wall, dude.

lol like the * in f*cking made a difference.
