Tulloch Tebows over Tebow

Linebacker Stephen Tulloch #55 of the Detroit Lions reacts by "Tebowing" after making a sack on quarterback Tim Tebow #15 of the Denver Broncos during the first quarter at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on October 30, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. (Justin Edmonds/Getty Images)

To everyone who read my article on Monday and took away “Tebow is the only problem with this team,” you are reading something somebody else wrote. That article was about Tim Tebow. It would take three or four times the text to talk about the problems on the entire team.

But given the state of the media surrounding the Denver Broncos right now, Tim Tebow deserved an article all to himself. This article is about why Tim Tebow deserves an article all to himself.

The Tebow supporters are very quiet right now, and rightly so. There is very little in his play that can be defended — the only useful thing to be said is “Give him more time,” and you’ll note that I didn’t suggest that we pull him right away. BUT! One more performance like Sunday and I’ll be riding the “Bench Him Bandwagon” with a mug of salty beer and a hanky.

Instead, the Tebow supporters who are not simply wisely waiting for him to have a stellar performance and shove my words down my throat at a later date are now finding anyone and everyone else they can blame so that it isn’t all Tebow’s fault. Comments around the web show that those loyal to Tim Tebow are blaming Mike McCoy, Joh Fox, Orlando Franklin, Zane Beadles and the entirety of the defense (possibly save Von Miller but definitely including Champ Bailey) for Tebow’s woeful play.

Well, I’ve got news for you.

It isn’t ALL Tebow’s fault, that’s true. But we can’t hold Tebow blameless and we can’t even say he deserves less blame than any one else on the team.

To those who blame Mike McCoy more than Tim Tebow: I believe you are wrong. McCoy is trying hard to work the offense around Tebow’s strengths. They’re running a spread offense. They’re in the shotgun over 75% of the plays, a marked change from Kyle Orton. They’re running the kinds of routes that Tebow was successful with in college.

Those who blame John Fox for Tim Tebow’s problems are simply wrong. He turned to Tebow a lot faster than I thought he would. Fox is trying hard to take what he has and win with it. John Fox is going to go with the player he thinks gives the best chance to win. And after a performance like the last two weeks, any quarterback NOT named Tim Tebow would be looking pretty hard at the bench and getting used to the idea of riding it. Actually, Tebow probably is too, because he’s a good guy and he knows how the world works.

Those who blame any single player for Tim Tebow’s problems are wrong. None of those players are responsible for Tebow being able to see, target, throw and hit an open receiver. The closest we can say is that Franklin is responsible for keeping him upright long enough to do that.

Those who think the O-Line is so bad Tebow doesn’t have time to play, you are very wrong. Pro Football Spotlight is posting some very good articles rating the O-Line play on MHR. They’re doing okay. Not awesome, but they’ve improved steadily over time. They’re out there doing a workman’s job trying to make plays.

Those who think the defense is so bad that it’s their fault the offense couldn’t score are demonstratably wrong and then some. This was just as true last season with Kyle Orton: The defense is put at a serious disadvantage when the offense goes 3 and out over and over again. Three and out should be the exception not the rule. Going three and out vastly increases the chances the other team will get points on the next drive. It increases the number of snaps your defensive players have to make. It puts more pressure on your defense, because it’s on THEM to win the game for you. And it eventually demoralizes your defense if they get scored on but your offense can’t. As someone in the comments said, if the defense had pitched a shutout, we still would’ve lost with the points given up by Tebow himself.

Football is a game of perfection. A demoralized defense will not play a perfect game, and things will quickly escalate.

The defense is mediocre. Of that there is no doubt. You cannot expect them to put up a performance like the Ravens. A mediocre defense should expect, given a competent offense, to give up 20-27 points per game. The offense has to be able to match that, or a lot of games are going to be lost.

For the record, against a very good offense, our mediocre defense gave up 31 points. Given the time of possession hole they were put in, I think they actually did okay. Are they good? No. But if our offense was remotely competent, we could be competitive.

And I’d feel pretty good about going 8 and 8 right now. Makes me miss the days of Shanahan, where 8 and 8 was considered terrible.

  • Mike

This post sucks. The defense sucks. Look at that first touchdown. I hardly see other good defenses giving up easy touchdowns. Look at our pass rush as well. If we switched tebow into detroits offense. He would look alot better.

  • Mike

I also believe that Tebow only gave up 7 points. The other 7 points was given up by Orlando Franklin. He didn’t even touch Avril. No left handed quarterback would of had a chance there. So, I believe Tebow made mistakes, but I saw him improve from the last game. Protection is key for any quarterback to succeed. Many of the great quarterbacks have plenty of time to make reads. 3-6 seconds. Young quarterbacks especially need this.

  • Anonymous

This should have never needed to be written.  That is was really says something about the Tebow worshipers.

  • Anonymous

He had up to 9 seconds and still couldn’t get the job done.  Franklin is responsible for Tebow’s throwing mechanics too?  Where was the ball when Tebow fumbled?

  • Anonymous

If you don’t agree with the post,  that is fine.  For you to say it sucks makes you look like a giant dick.
     Great post E

    Great post fun read!

  • http://ehalseymiles.com E. Halsey Miles

That’s why I said mediocre. I find it interesting; I’m not sure how much more clear I could be, and yet you immediately disagreed with something I didn’t actually say.

  • Troyn

Don’t disagree with much of what you had to say.  I have been one who has pretty consistently defended giving Tebow a chance.  My reasoning being he is the only QB on the roster that has the “it” factor that true winning QB’s have.  He was bad against the Lions, but the whole team was horrible.  Maybe he will never be a starting QB in the NFL, but he has a skill set that needs to be used.  Maybe if the coaching staff hadn’t worried too much about hurting Orton’s feelings, they would have used Tebow in the red zone at the beginning of the year, and let Orton play between the 20’s.  Lots of ‘buts” and “maybes”, I know, but one thing we should all be definite on is that McDaniels really destroyed this team and it’s going to be a process just to be mediocre again.

  • Todo

Really? They’re calling plays made for Tebow????One boot leg, one roll out, zero “no huddle”, no screens, no outlet available in the flat. Tebow was doomed to fail in that game plan. I now think Orton’s struggles were McCoy’s fault. His pass plays take way to long to develop. Where are the quick hitches, 2 second slants, 2 yard button hooks, or anything else design to beat 8 men in a box with a perpetual blitz. The guy didn’t even use altitude to our advantage. If they don’t design a system to help Tebow, they migh as well play Quinn and Weber at saftey.

  • Mike

9 seconds!! lol Try 2 seconds. Wasn’t even touched

  • Mike

Yeh, I agree. I think giving him more roll outs will help him. I remember elway doing a lot of play action roll outs that worked real well.

  • Mike

Wow. They are worst then mediocre. Why aren’t we asking for anybody on the defense to not be the starter anymore. Look at Dumerville. I don’t think he is performing up to what he is getting paid. Why doesn’t he have an article written about him. Our defense is still ranked at the bottom of the league. I don’t care if our offense gets three and outs. Every time. As a professional defensive players are paid to stop the offense. When they sign a contract they are not asked to only stop teams if their offense doesn’t go three and out. Why are we making excuses for the defense?? Who know the lions might have put up more points if they didn’t put their back up in.

  • Mike

Yeh, I disagree with you that our defense is mediocre. If you look based on stats I would say they are again near the bottom of the league. That being said they suck. It seems that many people are writing articles  placing blame on one person (Tim Tebow). There are 22 people on a team. Maybe you can write  an article saying the buck stops with Joe Mays or one of our highest paid players in Dumerville. I’m more worried about his performance then Tim Tebow’s.

  • Anonymous

There was an attempted screen but it was easliy read and Tebow held on to the ball way too long and an illegal lineman down field call was made.

  • Anonymous

During the lockout when there was like five of us on this board I made it clear that Franklin was a liability in the pass game, and he has improved but still has the same slow feet.  Tebow shows zero anticipation and needs to make the quick throw to back the defense off.  With 8 in the box screens are hard to do…reread that, the outside blitzers are responsible to disrupt screens, Decker had to break three tackles in five yards to make his touchdown.  Problem is you cannot improve anticipation without being in the fire and plenty of reps at practice.

  • DLMyers

@Mike..wow you really do not like anything about the Broncos, right? OH wait except your love for Tebow.

  • DLMyers

Tebow get these kind of articles because he is paid millions to perform and he does not have the skill-set.
Elvis Dumervil (you also need to learn OUR players) has done it and gets millions but is coming back from IR.

  • Mike

@ DLmyers. Yeh, I like Tim Tebow but I don’t think he ready to start. Its just funny when your rebuilding, people think he should win us games by himself. Many of the young quarterbacks Ive seen succeed have good defenses and good running games and pass protections. When orton played I had never seen a quarterback throw the ball away so quickly. At least Orton had a better pass blocker protecting his blindside.

  • DLMyers

@5abb3c132c85f5f8d677c03ac440fbe8:disqus.. 75% shootgun and spread formations in the Detroit game. Game plan showed that outside the pocket, Detroit is excellent (McCoy).
Remember that EFX needs to evaluate if Tebow will succeed in this league as a pocket passer. He has not improved in read progressions, defensive route coverage or passing accuracy in the two games (Elway).
BTW Tebow is awful in quicks, slants, and hooks. Two things he knows are screens and a deep pattern.

  • Mike

Key word has done it. If we based it off of that then we could say that Tim Tebow has won NFL games. Thats a joke. Dumervil his paid to perform just like Tebow but your okay with giving him an excuseIR but not Tim Tebow. 0 sacks sure explains a lot to me.

  • DLMyers

Miles..very good points. If Tim was as competant as Orton or Quinn at throwing the football then our season may have been over 8-8. Yes there other areas to fix besides QB. I believe that they move Franklin to guard and use Beatles as the swing c/g/t since Hochstein will be gone.
    1st round QB
    2nd round CB
    3rd round DL
    4th round RB

  • Mike

How can you be a pocket passer if a lot of the time you don’t have a pocket to step up in. I think that EFX need to evaluate our line. Even some of Orton failures can be linked to poor lineman blocking. At least Orton could see Orlando Franklin s lack of blocking.  I’m not sure many quarterbacks can be pocket passers with our pass blocking

  • Mike

     1st Round DT
    2nd Round DT
    3rd Roung DT
    4th Round DT
    5th Round RB
    6th Round DT

Who do you replace Franklin with? Also, it’s way too early to be talking about the draft. You never know what could happen between now and then. Who knows, maybe we will trade for Manning and not need a QB.

  • Dom’s Dad

Tebow supporters are not worshipping him, jd.  they just have hope for a guy they respect and admire and are willing to have some patience. Maybe that hope can cloud good judgement in assessing Tebows QB skills.  Tebow may not make it as a QB in the NFL, but your mocking of his supporters don’t help your cause in debating about his merits as an NFL QB.  Try being respectful of others and your point of view might be more readily considered and try knocking off the sarcastic and inflammatory religious comments; you will be “heard” better.

We can also place some responsibility on Mike Shanahan.  He had a decade of lousy drafts and free agents.  2006 was an anomoly during that decade.  Jarvis Moss in the 1st round?  RB Travis Henry as a free agent?  It goes on and on.  Rahim Moore and Orlando Franklin have there difficulties and we don’t know yet how the 2011 draft picks will pan out.  V. Miller still has to improve as a pass defender; we’ll know more in a year or two and that also depends on our coaching staff.

  • Dom’s Dad

One failed screen attempt does not mean anything for or against Tebow or the Offensive scheme.  The fact is, the Broncos cannot install a complete new offensive scheme for ALL the offensive players to learn in a week or two with limited practices. They are slowly adding and modifying plays that have to be learned by all.  Plays do need to be called that allow a QB and his offense to get into a rhythm and gain confidence.  Tebow and the entire offense are responsible for executing those plays.  They haven’t yet.  Usually all of this would take place in OTA’s, Training Camp and Preseason.  It’s being done on the fly.  It’s exactly what you would expect with a makeshift offense and a very young offensive team.  Now, they have had 4 weeks and new plays will be seen this week against Oakland.  It would be reasonable to expect improvement from the entire Offense this week, but anyone expecting a well run, timed offensive machine is fooling themselves.  We didn’t have that when Orton was in and some responsibility does fall on coaching when orton had some of the same struggles moving the ball as the Tebow led Offense.

  • Dom’s Dad

I’m not saying Tebow doesn’t bear a  lot of the responsibility; he does.  He has admitted it and he’s not making excuses for himself. Let’s not do that either, but let’s also not overlook the situation, the coaching, the opposing team’s ability and talent.  The entire Broncos organization is responsible for the loss with Detroit, but it certainly doesn’t start with Tebow, but it may well end with Tebow taking all the brunt.

  • Dom’s Dad

Best “Football” comment all day.  This is what we need to be talking about.  No sarcasm, no religious mockery.  Just good, simple football.  Orlando Franklin did allow Avril through Tebows blindside for the strip, fumble and TD. On another play, Franklin held for 7 seconds then Tebow was sacked.  No consistency all the way around.  Tebow needs to get rid of the ball much, much faster; especially knowing the pass blocking struggles Franklin has.  At the same time, our receivers have dropped balls left and right for both Tebow and Orton on crucial downs.  Now Tebow knows why he needs to go through his reads faster.  I don’t think Oaklands d-Line will as dominant as Detroits was, so now Tebow needs to be able to utilize the “extra time” compared to last week and get that ball out.  Maybe the game will seem slower this week to him and he’ll make his reads and speed up his delivery; after that, it’s accuracy.  We’ll see.  “Necessity is the mother of invention” and Tebow needs to get the ball out quicker and on target.  It’s on him this week and now he understands

  • Dom’s Dad

…and pay Manning’s $28,000,000 salary?  And then what?  2,3,4 years and back to being what the Colt’s are right now?  $28 million buys a lot of talent at many other positions.  If we need a QB after this season, we draft a rookie: much cheaper and can also concentrate on the many other positions we need help on.  I love me some Peyton Manning, but it’s exactly what we shouldn’t do.  Build through the draft, with a few free agents.  It’s much cheaper and it lasts longer.  Now, Jim, if you could persuade Peyton to come to Denver at a discounted rate, it would be exciting.

  • King

We are a terrible team and the reason why the Tebow supporters are “silent” is because of all of the piling on going on right now.   There is much being said that is true, and much that is false.

As Steve Young has said, the QB gets too much of the praise when winning, and too much of the blame when losing.

  • Turkrock

Manning will restructure to play again. No team will pay him that

  • Bruce Campbell

It seems to me that anyone who writes an article simply to defend why a previous anti-tebow article was written, is likely part of the problem.  This team was bad long before Tebow started, and will remain bad if his detractors get their way and he’s benched.  We have absolutely nothing to lose to have our first round pick continue to play the position this year.  Or you thought maybe we were going to the super bowl?

I just wish everyone would talk about the team, rather than single out a young player.

  • http://ehalseymiles.com E. Halsey Miles

Yes, I’m definitely part of the problem.

  • Super_tebowl 15

Tebow just needs time and a little patients. He is going through a typical rough patch that all 5th game starters go through. I don’t think we should lose site of this fact. The kid is going through growing pains of a normal young QB.

  • Dom’s Dad

Yes, I agree, but what would be the cost to get him in draft picks, 2 1st round picks?  Intriguing idea, but unrealistic and too high of a cost no matter how you look at it.

  • Dom’s Dad

Well, for the record, I am a Tebow supporter and would like to see him start for the Broncos for the next 10-15 years as the QB.  I am hopeful he will progress and shut his bashers up; but, I realize that may not happen.  So, I have to ask myself “what then?”  What would the Broncos do?  I will still be a Broncos fan.

  • Harald Harb

Tebow is not ready for the NFL. That is not me saying this, it’s the best former players at his position in the league, saying it. You can justify what to you believe, but the facts don’t lie. I can’t believe Elway is letting him play.
The defense sucks, when are you going to face it, Champ Bailey  was a great defensive back, but now he’s old and slow, compared to the receivers he is facing. And he is still the best we have. That should tell you about our problems. This team has no pass rush. Come on! Are you watching the same game I am?

  • plato68

Great article  wouldn’t change a thing.

  • plato68

Back off the ball sack already. Tebow would be better suited  for a position like long snapper or maybe even returning kicks, since he likes to run instead of pass the football like a real quarterback.

  • Lovethebroncos

Let’s get something straight: Can Tim Tebow is his present state and development help the Broncos become a better team and lead them back to winning this year or next year? The answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Having said that I disagree with your post so much. The Broncos have nothing at QB right now that is why they are playing Tebow. However the whole team stinks and Tebow takes the blame and the focus away from all the rest:

McCoy is a colossal joke. I wish people stop defending him.

The offensive line stinks no matter who you put back there. They need a new scheme and coaching.

    There is no running game.

    Where are the tight ends?

Take away Von Miller and Champ from the starting defense and the rest is crap.

It is time to accept that we need to rebuild. Cut loose all overpriced veterans including Champ and start stockpiling young talent.

NO MATTER WHO PLAYS QB FOR US THE REST OF THE YEAR 3 MORE WINS WILL BE A TREMENDOUS ACCOMPLISHMENT.

  • Lovethebroncos

100% right. Tebow should not be playing right now, He is 2 years away like Rodgers, Phillips and most QB’s that spend time to learn what it takes to become a NFL QB, improving their footwork, accuracy, technique and defense reading. His “fault” was that he was drafted in the first round by McDaniels who’s plan was to sit Tebow for a couple of seasons and develop him. The problem is that McD is gone, the Broncos have nothing on both sides of the ball and have absolute crap at QB so they are forced to play Tebow.

  • 5280

Why is it that just because you think Tebow will succeed givin the right amount of time, your automaticly a “Tebow WOrshiper” and you think he’s the savior? And why is it that when someone points out that theres a lot of other reasons why this team is losing you are automaticly making excuses for Tim Tebow and you “blaming” everything on the team and not admitting that Tebow is the absolute most horrible QB in the universe? the only thing you said, Halsey, in regards to tebow not being the only reason why they played horrible last sunday is that you never said that he was the only reason in the first place in the first paragraph. “To everyone who read my article on monday and took away ‘tebow is the only problem with this team,’ you are reading something somebody else wrote.” Thats about all you said. Then you said it would take three to four times the text to explain the problems of the whole team. yet instead of writing said text, you still prefferred to write A SECOND article about all the problems Tebow does have. No your not blaming tebow for their problems, but you dont care to point out strengths as well as his weaknesses. Broncos fan have watched the nation ripp their QB to shredds in the media and you seem to want to add to their embarresment. Why?

Why not talk about the things they can build on. For starters, regarding Tebow, since this absolutely has to be the topic of conversation everytime the Broncos are discussed, That first drive last sunday looked great!  Had Eric Decker dragged his foot like an Elite reciever already knows how to do, that would have been tebows first opening drive touchdown this year. that was CLEARLY deckers fault, but understandably. Decker is only in his 2nd year with no training camp in the off season. He will learn how to have the presence of mind on every play to drag the second foot when near the out-of-bounds line. But also,  That pass had great touch on it and it was right on point, and had the catch been made, thats a big confidence booster and that one play could have changed the outcome of the game because of that confidence.

After that first drive, where was the running game? Not having Willis McGahee killed the broncos.  And the play calling regarding the inability to run the ball made us one dementional.  if Moreno cant run between the tackles, why wasn’t more effort made to get him out in space? not one screen pass was thrown the entire game, and with a back like moreno you need that desperately. a Swing pass or 2 would have helped too. This area of offence seemed to be totally ignored. The play calling was just straight sit in the pocket and throw down the field. if he cant do it why try?  You said that they called the kind of plays that Tebow ran in college, but if i remember correctly, Tebow didnt sit in the pocket and chuck the ball down field all day long. Deep Posts and Deep outs are not gonna get the job done, i dont care how they set it up, shotgun or not.  They ran one type of option play all game long, and it was the keeper option, and tell me when Tebow actually decided to keep the ball on that option play and take it to the edge? NEVER! I know im not a coach or anything, but i know there are many more styles of option besides keeper option out of shotgun. why not try the bootleg rolling option. never saw it one since he’s started. Yes McCoy is trying, but it can be argued whether he’s trying “hard” or not.  Why is 75% enough? they should go 100% with what Tebows talents are. Are the Patriots using what Tom Brady does well 75% of the time. no. Their using Tom brday for what he does well 100% of the time. But you cant blame them for being careful because they’ve never had a QB like Tebow. They really wouldnt know how to utilize his talents. hell, who in the league does? People have to realize that this is a work in progess and thats how it was meant since he was drafted.

Somebody catch the damn ball?!? Royal had 2 drops, Domarius had 2 drops, decker had one, and the tightends had a pair.  this is why Lynch was harping on short easy throws. when they did that it was successful.  The few times they threw short to royal in the flats, or on a short out route five yards up the field, they connected. Of course this wont work on 3rd and long, but the trick is to not have a 3rd and long. if tebow can stay at 3rd and 5 or less then these little dink and dunk throws would be successfull.  This is not a Big play group of guys. They need to play that smash mouth type of ball and run run run, and get some short passes and draw yards after the catch. Suck up the clock so that if they do fall behind, it isnt by much, and the other team has to worry about some 4th quarter Tebow Time.

Going down the field with the ball play after play isnt going to equal success. and just because this is what you believe as a fan doesnt mean your a “tebow supporter” or a “Tebow Worshiper.” It means you want to see your team use what they have to the best of their ability. but for some reason, that isnt exceptable. As a fan I would LOVE to see Tim Tebow chuck 50 yard touchdowns all game long, but we all know that aint gonna happen. not right now. I want to see wins, and i dont care how that happens. we are in mid season. this is not the offseason. this is not training camp or preseason.  that means, for right now we need to figure out how to win. We can work on accuracy in practice and in the offseason.

  • Turkrock

I think the point is it is still too early to talk aboutthe draft.  All kinds of things have yet to unfold.

  • Dom’s Dad

Still fun to speculate and discuss something else rather than the same old Tebow, Orton, Quinn stuff.  Yes, it is relevant, but all day on the Denver sports radio it’s about Tebow.  I am hopeful for Tebow, but it gets old day-in day-out, and if people want to discuss the draft they can.

  • Dom’s Dad

Good arguments.  How do we have 7 straight possessions with no 1st downs?  First off, no running game.  When the D is stacking the box, you don’t have a “juking” RB run the rock.  You use a big, beefy powerhouse RB.  To back the D off the line you don’t throw 20 yard passes to receivers who drop the ball, you pass 5-10 yards and the receivers get the rest.  Now, Tebow does have some responsibility, but for goodness sakes, he’s not Peyton Manning.  When Orton was having troubles, it was because we had a bad team, now it’s Tebow’s fault. Tebow was told to stay in the pocket, so he did.  He wants to do as he’s being told (he even stated as much after the game).  He could have run for over a 100 yrds if he wanted to and that would have backed the D-line off just as effectively.  Use his strengths in the meantime and he can learn to improve in the pocket as the defenses respect his run threat.  It’s was exasperating to watch Tebow in the pocket for 5-9 seconds.  I was yelling “run, run”, but it was obvious he was given instructions to stay in the pocket.  If there’s any validity, and I believe there is, to being ‘tried by fire’ Tebow just was by Detroit.  Maybe that was the Broncos intent.  Also, they can’t change the offense entirely, the rest of the Offense has to learn the plays too.  That should have been done in the off-season (playbook) and training camp.  I think Fox wants it done his way and Elway has the hots for Luck, so Tebow is in a “Crash” course in pocket passing.  It’s designed not for him, but to show the public that Tebow can’t do it, that justifies drafting a QB. Otherwise, they are attempting to get him up to speed to see how much he can improve.  If he has a rough time in Oakland and then they bench Tebow, then that shows their real intent was to drown out Tebow supporters with “we gave him a chance and he failed”.  People are arguing that if Tebow struggles in Oakland that Orton or Quinn should go in.  Why?  They won’t sign an extension with those two, what would be the point?  We can’t trade them unless we have them under contract and Orton wouldn’t do that without some guarenteed dollars. What I also don’t get is this, if Fos is old school and likes to run the ball, why didn’t we get Mark Ingram in the 2nd round?  Well, like you said, this team is so bad everywhere, it didn’t matter what position we drafted, we needed someone there.

I agree that the defense sucked, not sucks.  They had a bad game, not aided by the fact they spent too much time on the field.  No quarterback can be successful under that kind of pressure until he can burn the defense for a big play.  Here is the problem though.  They traded away the one guy who could provide big plays from the reciever position.  I am taking nothing away from Decker, Royal, or #88(name,lmao cant remember), but they were unable to beat the coverage most of the game.  No matter how much time he has a quarterback needs seperation or a guy he trusts enough to go get it.  Taking away Moreno’s whimpering effort(Ball was by far the better back, fumble aside), it’s easy to see why Detroit played them this way.  Expect the Raiders to do the same.  Bottom line, Tebow or no Tebow until the line and recievers can be effective this is how defenses will play Denver who currently lacks defined talent on offense.  Orton fares no better last Sunday.  With that said, if a reciever can step up and prove he will beat man-to-man coverage and Orlando can keep Avril’s Raider counterpart out of the backfield, perhaps we can find out if its really a talent issue with Tebow.  Rest assured though, the raiders are not the Lions and our defense will look good this week.

I agree whole heartedly with a minor exception.  Tebow will remain the starter at least 3 more weeks, because of Tebow nation.  It must be proven without a doubt that he just cant do it.  The only problem I have is that he has less weapons than Orton, less experience obviously, and I am not sure he has the  best instruction.  Cam Newtons footwork is still not great, and while Tebow’s obviously could improve, that should not be a focal point right now.  I have yet to see a designed deep ball other than Deckers endzone ball.  Until defenses believe it’s a threat they won’t react.  One deep by design ball just to make the defense back the coverage and the underneath routes will start to open.  I could ramble forever on play calling for a young QB, McCoy should know this though.  A couple quick slants, a little trickery, an option play, some screens.  Move the pocket, bootlegs, bootleg options.  Cmon man, a blind man could have sacked the Denver QB last week.  and that wasn’t a knock on the quarterback, but the D knew where he was going to be 95% of the time.

This week will go a long way towards seeing how Denver will handle things going forward.  If Tebow, the line, and recievers have put in the necissary work.  And should demonstrate how commited they really are to Tebow.  If the play calling stays vanilla and predictable, so will be the result.  If they do the things that will help the offense be more effective and utilize the abilities of Mcgahee, Tebow, and reciever core, we could see huge turn in fortunes here.  The defense regardless should be much improved, unless Palmer is just lights out.  Today we see.  Go Broncos!!!
