Tim Tebow

It all remarkably came together in the end.

For over three quarters Sunday, there weren’t enough critical phrases or four-letter words in the English language to describe the putridity that was the Denver Broncos offense. Tim Tebow was 3 for 10 passing. The offense was 0 for 9 in third down attempts, and Tebow had been sacked six times. Matt Prater had missed two field goals, and the Broncos were dangerously close to suffering their first shutout loss in nearly two decades.

But then Tebow and company pulled it together. With less than four minutes to play, down 15-0, Tebow took to the air, delivering two touchdown drives off two touchdown passes and forcing overtime. Then, on the third possession of overtime, D.J. Williams‘ strip-sack of Dolphins QB Matt Moore gave Prater an opportunity for 52-yard redemption, which he successfully converted. The Broncos won 18-15.

It was the second win of the Broncos’ 2-4 season, while the Dolphins moved to 0-6.

Did Tebow do enough in the game’s final minutes to give you confidence he should continue to start? What can the Broncos do to make sure they get that level of production from him for four quarters? We have a lot of topics to debate and discuss, Broncos fans, but soak up something we haven’t felt much of in the past two years: a Broncos win.

    Actually the

    Jets
    Raiders
    Bills
    Chiefs
    Broncos
    Colts
    Giants
    Bears
    Vikings
    Saints
    Buccaneers
    Falcons
    Panthers
    Cardinals
    Rams

all have a lower rated defense than Miami. But if you just want to make stuff up to down your “own team” about a win then I guess you made your point just fine.

And he’s not playing, so move on.

“You can’t blame that on the play calling either.”

Yes you can. I completely blame the play calling. It was extremely predictable and sad. Six passes in the first half is awful, there is no excuse for that.

  • Anonymous

    Food for thought.

    What if Luck… well, sucks.

He sure can’t play OL for us.

  • cfs

Give the kid some time, people expect him to a “Brady” or “Manning” right off the bat. Actually, give him some players as well. Seriously, is anyone watching the rest of the team. At least Tebow keeps is head up threw all of it and will keep workin threw it.  Get off his back.  Orton would’ve lost the game.  A win is a win.

  • cfs

You get an answer in one game….
What quarterback do you want then, one that mopes around. There aren’t any worth a darn, so take the one you have and work with him. Duh!  Stop calling the same stupid play the whole game with the same player, even my kid could figure that one out.

  • Turkduckin

I feel the same way. Hope they change up the play calling a bit next week. When they started running more of a spread offense at the end of the game Tebow was able to get into a rhythm and start moving the O

    Yeah….that must be it.

    That would explain some things.

Did you watch the game?  Some of those were designed runs.  Some he was blitzed and had no time.  And some he just blew it.  Keep in mind, he isn’t working with a talented and experienced WR group either. And maybe he could use a few games to get use to working with the 1st team?  Now there’s a thought.   It’s going to take time.  Elway ran around a lot too especially in the years.

  • flbronc

where did you get that?  According to the DP the Miami defense is ranked 26th overall and 29th vs the run and 29th vs the pass.

I looked up on espn.com team defensive stats, and our defense is actually ranked higher than theirs in all stats they track other than forced fumbles.. they have 6 and we have 5.

lets not overstate how good their defense is, because ours is actually better.  and we’re not that good.

  • rcsodak

    Elway could also pass.  Lol
And why the constant queries to watching the game?  DUH!  24yds passing thru 3+qtrs?  Really?  0 in the 3rd?
Again, thank GOD ALMIGHTY they were playing Miami!

i’d like to see some more no huddle.  not necessarily hurry-up, but operate without a true huddle.  tt is smart enough to do it, and it will allow for matchup flexibility in switching from a traditional running set into a spread set.  it can trap a defense on the field and give us an advantage personnel wise- although it may mean motioning a rb into a wr slot… it could work with knomo.

it won’t matter for crap though if he cant hit an open receiver until the fourth quarter.

we were there, so didn’t get a lot of replay availability, but some of his passes were flat out bad.  really bad.  hopefully it was one bad outing.

it was a fun game to be at though…  three and a half quarters of the most boring football i have ever been subject to, then five great minutes!

  • flbronc

exactly.  we needed a couple screen calls and short routes to get him into a rhythm.  that’s pretty basic for a new qb.  or at least should be.

  • Anonymous

Is this more of the same?  The coaches should call plays based on Tebow’s strengths but throw that out the window on game day?
It was 8 and Tebow completed 3 of those, one Royal could have caught and the other 4 you had no idea who he was throwing to.

  • Anonymous

All eight passes were short routes.  You need to convert on 3rd down which for 55 minutes they did not do.  Wasn’t this the big knock on Orton?

  • Anonymous

What do you want?  So the coaches are working with Tebow by putting an offensive pachage together that is geared towards his strengths and it is not enough for you.

  • Anonymous

Who has run a successful spread offense in the NFL?  The same people who still use the run-&-Shoot?

  • Anonymous

Where were you the other 55 minutes?

  • Anonymous

One play he was blitzed.  Every other sack he looked lost.

  • Anonymous

I would rather not watch 4th quarter comebacks against last place teams.  In fact I would rather watch the offense march down the field and score on every drive and not need a comeback.

  • Anonymous

Remember when fans were peeved because Shanahan drafted Cutler over Leinart because Leinart was a winner?

  • Anonymous

And showing up for 5 minutes only gets you a W when the opposition doesn’t play for 60 minutes.  It doesn’t work against good teams.

  • Anonymous

You obviously have no memory of the early Elway years.

  • Anonymous

Plummer had his best season with a Griese game plan.

  • Anonymous

And if/when “instinct” doesn’t kick in?  This was close to being the end of the longest current non-shut-out streak.

  • flbronc

my point was we needed to do them more, not that we didn’t do any.  i agreed with east that we didn’t call enough to establish a rhythm.

i will knock tt for failing to convert third downs.  he played horrible the vast majority of the game.  i will also knock his accuracy, which save for the last drives was awful. this game didn’t really do much to improve my opinion of him.

  • Dante Pakistan

Was at the game too, was an awful game to watch, glad I didn’t leave like a lot of others.

  • Anonymous

On 3rd and 13 they did a designed run play for Tebow. That is ridiculous.

  • flbronc

yea, i took a picture on my phone of prater lining up for the kick to win in OT… the stands on that end of the field looked about 50% full at that point.  if that.

  • Anonymous

Dude, what’s with the abuse?  I have moved on.  My only point is that there wasn’t a true Bronco fan in the world who, watching that happen, didn’t at least have the wisp of a thought cross his/her mind that this seemed like something our current VP used to do.  I’m just saying.

  • Anonymous

I live in SD and today is a day that I can stand proud and hold my head high, while wearing a Broncos shirt! Charger fans are hating life today and for good reason. They think they have a great team, but they just keep on choking when it matters most!… I think it should be said about Tebow, that if not for that bogus PF call against SD, he does the same to them that he did to Miami!

  • Anonymous

For 56 minutes Tebow was dog crap.   And I’m sorry, but you can’t count on getting miracles from Tebowsus every week.  And clearly no one will ever drop into prevent or other deep coverages against him again.  The game plan against him is obvious.

The combo of a below-average line and Tebow’s beyond-terrible decision making and fundamentals while throwing the ball are going to kill us down the road.

I just wish the powers that be would quit running Florida’s spread and start running a real offense so we can see if this kid is legit or not.  The spread O is a complete joke at this level.

  • Vaughannelson

I dislike Orton immensley but I think he would have picked that D apart. At least between the 20’s lol

  • Robinsonc

Tebow isn’t and probably will never be your conventional QB and I prefer him not to be.Turn the kid loose and let him play football.Things just seem to come together for him that way. He likes to pass and/or scramble if there are no receivers.Yes, we do need a running game also and that will come.Coach Fox, don’t hold the kid back, let him play,he kind of reminds me of a scrambling QB from not so long ago

  • flbronc

run full time i agree that the spread won’t work.  someone alluded to the run n’ shoot earlier and i would agree.  but there is no reason i can think of not to incorporate it into an overall scheme. some very successful teams use spread sets with consistency (though they have much better quarterbacks).

  • Anonymous

Anyone know where I can get a good down jacket?

  • Anonymous

It’s pretty simple, look at the only defensive stat that actually matters. Points Against.

  • TinFL

He wasn’t dog crap.  He didn’t have time to throw from under center.  He didn’t throw an Int.

You’re a complete idiot.  All of the power offenses in the NFL run spread shotgun.
Green Bay, New England, New Orleans, etc . . .

Move back to Oakland . . . . you can wear the Darth Vader outfit, spew all the negative expletive’s you know, fit right in.

    And you are sorry.

Because he couldn’t hit wide open receivers!!

  • http://twitter.com/DantePakistan Michael Land

I’d be willing to bet the deed to my house that Luck will be better than Tebow by a long shot.

  • http://twitter.com/DantePakistan Michael Land

Potty mouth huh? How old are we?

  • http://twitter.com/DantePakistan Michael Land

I love how just becuase we don’t like Tebow as our QB of the future we’re no longer considered “real fans”.

  • http://twitter.com/DantePakistan Michael Land

That depends a lot on the quality of opponents, heard of small sample sizes?

  • http://twitter.com/DantePakistan Michael Land

Yeah I was in the end zone of the opposite of the field where he hit the game winner, next to the weird ass Dolphin fans that dress up all crazy. Hot as shit there too!!

  • Anonymous

You’re nothing but a Tebow fanboy.  Seeing only what you want to see like the rest of them.

If you seriously think the Florida spread we run is the same thing GB, NO or NE runs, than you’re the idiot, chief.  The chief idiot, in fact.

  • Anonymous

Yep I have and they have played 7 games which is a pretty good sample size. Considering how inept their offense is (90 PF - Only the Jaguars and Rams have scored less points) they have done exceptionally well.

In fact their offense has given up nearly 1/4 of their points against. They had int’s or fumbles ran back for TD’s against them against SD and Hou (only 2 def TD’s allowed in either game).

Plus their defense has been forced to play starting inside their own 30 on 5 different occasions due to turnover.
