NFL transactions happen daily.

The Denver Broncos have two more games before their week six bye and the NFL’s trading deadline.   On Wednesday, October 19th at 4 p.m. (ET), teams will no longer be allowed to acquire players from other teams via trades.

In seasons past, trades have often happened just days and even hours leading up to the deadline. After the jump, we’ll look at two players the Broncos may be willing to dangle on the trading block.

May be placed on the trading block:

  • Eighth year linebacker D.J. Williams.

Williams has been productive for the Broncos since 2004 when the team drafted him, and has started at least 14 games for the team in six of the last eight seasons.  However, one more DUI for Williams and he could be faced with a lengthy suspension.  Fourth year linebacker Wesley Woodyard has played in the place of the injured Williams (elbow) three games into the season and has proved the unit can hold it’s own with or without Williams.

Woodyard is leading the team in tackles (29) and it would be very hard for Denver’s coaching staff to bench him when he is playing so well.  If anything, the Broncos may move Williams to inside linebacker to replace Joe Mays, who has not played as well as Woodyard.  Williams has experience at MLB and would provide a talent upgrade for the linebacking unit.

However, if the Broncos feel that Mays and Woodyard can hold their own, Williams becomes expendable.  If Denver does put Williams on the trading block, they will have no trouble finding a partner to negotiate with.

  •  Second year quarterback Tim Tebow.

If the Broncos really want the “Tebow Thing” — which has divided Broncos Country and seemingly disgruntled the locker room — to go away, all they have to do is trade Tebow.  There are teams out there that would be interested in such a trade and the Broncos could get decent value.

The problem is, Kyle Orton isn’t playing well enough to get a contract extension after the season and reserve quarterback Brady Quinn will also be a free agent in 2012.  If Denver trades Tebow, they won’t have any quarterbacks under contract next season.  Trading Tebow before he gets a legitimate shot at proving himself as a NFL quarterback would also provide a disadvantage.

From our point of view, trading Tebow has more cons than pros for the Broncos — but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

What do you think, Broncos Country? Do you think Denver will try to deal either of the above two mentioned players? Should they?

BS stop with the DJ stuff man.. he is our BEST LB.. you saw Woody/Mays in coverage last Sunday.. Come on man.. we should be worrying about re-signing Perrish Cox stupid a** cause he’s better in coverage than Cassius

Vaughn.. and lets hope and pray we get that hard hitting MLB out of Arizona State out of the draft

  • http://ehalseymiles.com E. Halsey Miles

I don’t really see either of these two players being traded.

    1) The defense is too thin to start letting good talent go. Woodyard is a special teams ace and a captain of the squad. It’s not like he gets benched just because Woodyard gets back, he’s got a solid role on the team. You can rotate him and Williams around, and that depth is valuable. If this becomes an issue it will be in the offseason when it comes time to talk contracts, but not before the trade deadline.

    2) They’ve already sunk the money into Tebow for the year, and his trade value is about as low as it can be. He isn’t going to come in and play QB for any team right now, so nobody is going to trade anything valuable for him. The Broncos are going to keep him on the bench and get him more time and see what he looks like next year or the year after. Kyle Orton is the QB of today but he’s clearly not the QB of the future. Tebow may or may not be, but it’s too soon to run him out of town and there’s no way we could get value out of him in a trade.

“If the Broncos really want the “Tebow Thing” — which has divided Broncos Country and seemingly disgruntled the locker room…”

Seemingly?  Who have you ‘actually’ talked to in the locker room.

A much more cogent argument should be made that the play of a 7-year veteran QB has ‘seemingly’ divided the locker room.  How can a player who doesn’t even play divide a locker room?

It’s sickening seeing the demonization of Tebow.

Tebow may be an option just because it appears that John Fox does not believe in him or is too PROUD and BULL HEADED to use him because the fans want to see Tebow given a chance. Fox appears to be full of crap when he says that Orton who is 6-25 for the Broncos, “is their best chance to win” BS
BS BS   what a disappointing statement from a coach who is supposed to bring back the glory days to the Broncos. I turned off the game and did other things rather than watch that boring crap of a product he is putting out.

    No and HELL NO !

  • Seahorse

The demonization of Tebow?   You are delusional.   Please name me another fan polorizing 3rd string QB that exists in the NFL today?

And Orton dividing the locker room?  What are you talking about? All coaches and players are behind him according to all recent reports.

The reason Tebow is being “Demonized” as you call it is because he has a billion fans who are all screaming as loud as they can that he needs to start ASAP.  The problem is that he can’t effectively run McCoys scheme without taking off and running.  Fans call it “exciting!”, coaches call it “wrong!”.   Deal with it.

By the way, it should be mentioned that I am a Tebow supporter, but to blind yourself to his polarizing nature is completely delusional.

haha..ya right. This was a waste of time article. One of our best players on defense and Tebow is a 1st round 2nd year. You dont cut ties that quick. The Tebow thing is only in the media and they ask the questions it is not in the stadium or locker room.

Why not put Kyle Orton there? Playing horrible and could be better in say, Seattle. Why not him on the trading block?

  • http://ehalseymiles.com E. Halsey Miles

The Tebow thing really is amazing to watch.

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

This season, either player, no way. Dumped too much money into both. Next season … ?

Cox goes to trial next month.

  • King

You completely danced around my point in my post and just throw insults.

The author of the article makes assumptions based on nothing but his personal opinion of what it’s like in the locker room.

It’s funny how at the end, you mention that you are a Tebow supporter, but your prior words show that to be a lie.

The truth of the matter is is that when a player can’t convert, like Orton, it divides a locker room.  Anyone who has played football at a high school or higher level knows this.

  • ArtM

    Orton for Curry!?

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

I said divided Brocnos Country (meaning the fans), I didn’t say Tebow divided the locker room. The situation has frustrated the locker room. I haven’t talked to the players, but Josina Anderson has.

    They told her:

“I think it’s all B.S.,” Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Lloyd
said in a phone interview Tuesday. “I think everybody is just waiting
for an opportunity to move (Orton) out and play anybody other than him.”

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

    That about sums it up.

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

I have to completely agree with you.

Just thought I’d throw the idea out there for discussion…

  • Anonymous

Why didn’t you address his point? Huh?

His (only) point is that he hates Kyle Orton…and you just danced right around it.

  • Anonymous

    Oh. My. F’ing. God.

  • Jeff

Delusional, Dividing, Distracting, Call it what you will, I am not against Orton, I think he is a fine and even a bit above average QB sometimes. The fans are not calling for the team to do something bizarre, they simply want a spark, an energy something to give hope, something to change. Tebow deserves a shot at it, if he fails, that will shut the fans up. He deserves a shot based on what he did late in the season last year. I don’t think his performances were so bad considering he didn’t get much playing time.
Shoot me if I am totally off here but I think it would not be so bad to see what he  can do, call me insane but it could be good to shake up complacency.

  • Lsbrooks721

I agree with Jeff, no guts no glory!!! Coaching staff has to have the guts to try something different, what we are doing now isn’t working.  Lets use what we have to the best of the team…and remember it’s he fans who pay the $$$$$

  • Troyn

The thing with Tebow is, if the coaches continue to be stubborn and not put in a goal line package for him,(at least), they are only hurting the team, and most fans see that.  Orton inside the ten is epic fail.  Tebow may not need to start yet, but he needs to be used.  That is if the team is truly interested in winning and not sucking for Luck.

  • http://ehalseymiles.com E. Halsey Miles

Fox said they practiced a Tebow package last week but didn’t actually implement one. Given the 4th down fail, it would not surprise me, at all, to see a Tebow goal-to-go package.

You never know, though. That’s not the thing a relatively conservative coach like Fox is in favor of.

  • Anonymous

look were thin Talent wise at MLB, CB, FB and QB.. now trading DJ will only make it worse.. Woody hasn’t had the most ‘durable’ career.. and what ever they do with Tebow so what.. i have my eyes on a QB out of Wisconsin, Baylor and Boisie St.

  • head vs brickwall

Tebow fans want to see him play. Orton fans (anti-tebowites) don’t want to see him play.  If the Tebow fans get their way, we’ll get alot of questions answered.  If the Orton fans get their way, we’ll still have all the same questions.  I understand if the Tebow fans are tired of this controversy, but I can’t understand Ortonites who BOTH tired of the controversy, AND don’t want him to see him play, and then blame the Tebowites for keeping the controversy going.  It’s making my head hurt,…

we dont need any more LB, we are set there. Curry is a bust. We have Miller, Mays, Willams starting with Irving, Woodyard backing up. Why trade a potential starter for a 3rd stringer? I would trade him for some of the DTs though.

  • crazykid

    So lets profile each QB:
Wisconsin: Russell Wilson- We could have a Bo Jackson scenario here. since the Rockies drafted him as well. That would be a distraction.
Baylor: Robert Griffin III- A beast of a player in college, but a running QB. The NFL hates running QB’s, so we have another Tebow on our hands.
Boise St: Kellen Moore- Nonstop comparisons to Drew Brees, just because he is too short to be a QB.

It doesnt seem like any of them will solve the problem…

  • Sebond1

So far Orton is not having a good year (and I’m a supporter of his low-profile, hard working, game-management approach). But as bad as Orton may be, the coaches think Tebow is worse, and they are almost certainly right. If things keep going as they are, the Tebowites might see Orton ousted. But guess what? Being the 4th best QB on the team, Tebow might be holding a clipboard with his buddy Orton, and cheering on Quinn (and hoping to be thrown a special-package bone). And hey, fans, this is a REBUILDING year. The Broncos have been in three close games with NFL teams. Not bad for one of the worst teams in 2010. Be realistic. The Broncos brass is not interested in our instant gratification; nor should it be. Wait until year three to get impatient. Show some class and maturity.

  • Seahorse

How is that different from any 2nd or 3rd stringer?  Why is Tebow different?

  • Anonymous

Why waste time on a future jailbird at corner then?

  • Anonymous

Elway was drafted by the Yankees.  He even went so far as to threaten to play baseball rather than play for the Colts.  I don’t see how you get a Bo Jackson scenario just because a player gets drafted by a baseball team.  Rick Leach was drafted by the Broncos but opted instead for a journeyman career in baseball.

  • Troyn

OK, I get it you hate Tebow.  Anyone who labels him 4th best, clearly is speaking out their prejudiced azz.  I have been a Bronco fan since Craig Morton and always will be.  Orton is what he is, and that is not a playmaking QB.  We already know Tebow can make plays from his limited chances last year.  If your goal as a Bronco fan is to win SB’s, then you should be in favor of Tebow getting some time.  Orton is taking us nowhere.  Tebow might, he might not, but it’s time to find out.  There is no downside to playing Tebow, unless you don’t care about winning another SB.

  • Whenwillwewin?

Orton has never led the Broncos to a victory when trailing by 3 or more points at half time. In his last 18 starts, he’s 4-14. Tebow had better numbers statistically in his first 3 starts than Elway did in his. He also led the team to a victory when they were trailing 17-0 at half time against the Texans. And Orton’s “game management” consists of him coughing up the football or getting sacked at the most inopportune moments in the game.

  • Rcsodak

I seem to remember some goalline Fails llast yr with Timmy. This thinking he’s unstoppable is BS.

  • Rcsodak

Lol. Timmy’s now better than The GOAT!

    Lmao……

    Tebow fanatics are hilarious.

well i guess you rather see Cassius Vaughn get BURNT up huh?.. first off Cox does has the world of potential.. more so than Vaughn.. I personally thought it would have been wise for us to milk him of his talents until he is prosecuted.. but hey you’re so high on moral.. when we don’t know with any players do behind close doors

  • 12508

You want to play a QB that can’t throw a football? Playing Tebow at QB is like making Houston Street the Rockies starting shortstop. In three years Tebow will be on some reality t.v. Show. Not starting in the NFL. How about a show about a guy who can’t throw but gets drafted by an NFL team. Follow him around. Film the practice. Watch him over throw, under throw, throw to the middle lb, and into the adoring crowd. Follow some of his fans. Watch them buy his jersey, scream his name, and just ignore the fact that he can’t throw an out pattern. Comedy Central would run it right after South Park.

  • Your name

How about if he is in a South Park episode?  Barbara Streisand AND Celine Dion both attack the town.  Robert Smith can not be contacted so Tebow comes to save the day.  His power lies in “The Shirt”.

  • DBfan

Sounds like chokin’ “O” to me! Have you been watching the last 2+ years?

  • bobbydibble

best idea ever.  also, orton sucks the sweat off a recently dead–in a very humid climate–mans balls… TEBOW SIGN MY FUCKING BIBLE!!!  and my #15 jersey.  Elway needs to step up to the GM plate and shitcan orton. i have bed bugs…

  • DB fan

Denver’s so called 3rd stringer should be the starter for the Broncos. Orton is a bum.

  • Hesh

OK 12508 and Rcsodak…We’ve heard it all before…and it’s getting old.  You hate Tebow bla, bla, bla, and in your world:

    1. Tebow can’t throw
    2. Anybody that hates Tim Tebow is a reasonable, and objective thinker
    3. Kyle Orton is better than Tom Brady
    4. The economy is in great condition
    5. Obama’s stimulus package created 50 million jobs.
    6. Joe Biden is a really really really smart guy
    7. Al Gore will save the planet so Green Bay won’t be as hot as Miami in a few years
    8. We have no debt problem
    9. Anybody that agrees with you is really smart
    10. Anybody that disagress with you is a Neo-Nazi racist

You should stick to reality TV and Comedy Central.  You wouldn’t be able to grasp much of anything else, especially understanding what makes a good Football player.  Do everyone and yourselves a favor and grow up.

  • Rande12

The NFL wants us to argue wants us to talk. This makes money. the broncos orton and tebow all know when tebow is going to step in.

  • Strawdog

Ease up on the caffein man.  Whether you agree with Jon or not…his comments don’t rise to “demonizing” on this or any other planet.

  • http://ehalseymiles.com E. Halsey Miles

“There’s no downside” is inaccurate, if the reporters who survey the locker room are to be believed.

If the players on the team truly believe Orton is better than Tebow as a QB, and you play Tebow, then you are signalling to those players that you have no interest in winning. For some of the older players on the team, they’re running out of shots at titles, and you shake their desire. And I’m not saying they’ll quite, but just a tiny SMIDGE less desire in this game can be the difference between a solid tackle and a bad angle because that tenth of a second delay because the player isn’t ON FIRE makes the difference.

So please, saying “there is no downside” is not accurate and can we stop saying that?

  • Anonymous

So your going to waste money on a player who will be more occupied worrying about a lifetime jail sentence?  Talent doesn’t do much good in a prison cell.  Morals have nothing to do with anything feel free to ignorantly claim they do.  Cox is better served preparing for his trial.  Please continue to avoid the obvious problem and resorting to ignorant comments.

  • Anonymous

Where do you get that anybody here hates Tebow?  Because we don’t worship at his feet like you?  You and the rest need professional help.

  • Anonymous

Elway did not have 13 previous games on the bench to watch and learn either.

  • Hesh

jdkchem…You’re just another left-wing troll that bounces back and forth between the Huffington Post, DailyKos, and any Tebow article you can leave a negative comment on.  You hate Tebow because of his religion and you’re afraid of him becoming a successful QB.  You’re incapable of dealing with anything that directly interferes with the alternative reality you live in.   I nor anyone else is can change that, however reasonable and intelligent people will have a lot to cheer for when Tebow is QBing the Broncos.  That translates to a lot of really bad Sundays for you.

  • Anonymous

From what alternate reality do you get that I’m a left-wing troll?  Are you really that desperate that you’ll just make something up so you’ll feel better?  It is really pathetic when morons like you resort to religion as an excuse for disagreeing with an opinion.  If you’re going to make crap up at least be adult enough to claim anyone else lives in an alternate universe.  You don’t know me.  If you want to continue to make ignorant, stupid and childish statements do so at your own peril.
Furthermore jack-ass, I was a Broncos fan before the better part of you was left on whose-your-daddy’s back seat.
