New Orleans Saints Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees appeared on XX Sports Radio in San Diego Friday and spent quite a bit of time discussing Denver Broncos football. (Don’t dwell too much on that sentence, just accept it for what it is.)

In particular, Brees broke down the Denver’s status on the position he knows best, quarterback, showing support but dropping some solid nuggets on both Tim Tebow and Kyle Orton.

Brees on Tebow —

“It’s hard to change a guys throwing motion at this level in the game. If you can get a guy in middle school and high school there are certain things you can probably tweak. Once you get him past college it is really hard to do that…. The more he gets of that the better he will get at those things and then obviously the guy has a ton of ability, a ton of athletic ability, leadership ability. It seems like he has all the intangibles now it’s just a matter of him getting the reps and experience he needs to refine his game a little bit.”

Brees on Orton (a fellow Purdue alum) —

“Look at Kyle’s situation from his Chicago Bears days where it was Rex Grossman, Rex Grossman and then Kyle would start and play well, but then it was always you have to compete with Rex again this off-season for the job. Kyle would do it and win the job. I think Kyle has been one of those guys over the course of his seven year career right now who’s had to fight for everything he’s gotten. He’s had to earn it all along the way…. But Kyle is a really confident guy and he wants to be the starter. He believes he is the best guy. I think we all feel that or we wouldn’t be playing the position. I think it’s interesting you got the both of them down there where the road Kyle has had to travel to get to where he is maybe the road where Tebow will travel for a little bit.”

Brees knows about a crowded QB situation eh?

  • Big_Pete

He actually does, quite well actually.

brees is such a great quarterback and he doesnt just blow of any questions here. he supports both QB's very well and notice how he doesnt say Tebow is an absolute POS all together like merril hodge and boomer essiason. he knows that any QB has a shot as long as he's in the league he has a shot, and he's exactly right. Tebow has so many “intangables” that it would be crazy not to at least see wha he can do. ive also read that Fox is probably gonna ride Tebow out throw to game one and let him back up Orton next game and sit Orton the last game and he might even let Tebow start in the last game. i thnk thats what Tebow deserves is to run with the 1st team just to see what he can do with starting talent around him with Orton secured at 1st string for the opener. i never thought denver should start Tebow outright, just see what he does with All the pieces he needs around him to make an impact. then Denver wil lknow if they can keep him and mentor him to be the starter and mold their system around him in the future, or if it would be more appropriate to trade him in the off season.

Classy guy.  Wish we had him at QB.

He knows all about being told he would never play in the NFL as well.  He speaks from experience.

Brees says something you don't like about Tebow so trash him too. What he said was a nice way of saying BIG MISTAKE. Brews knows A LITTLE about the qb spot. Listen I wish Tebow was the starter. Just to see was he has. Everyone else says HE STINKS. Cut him! Move on. Let the Raiders deal with him. Kyle is just better. Kyle Orton! Yes it's sad.

Yep, in San Diego being the odd man out with Phillip Rivers and being dumped after hurting his shoulder recovering a fumble. He was and will always be a gamer. He is a leader, knows the game and is a classy guy.

No a big mistake is Ryan Leaf. I never got that vibe from what he said. I am not a Tebow Homer. I like him but If he moves on I wouldn't care.
