For two days in a row, Denver fans have been able to awake to a signing of a brand spankin’ new defensive tackle. According to Adam Schefter the Broncos have signed yet another former Patriot and first rounder in Ty Warren.

Broncos land former Patriots DE Ty Warren with a 2-year, $10 million deal that includes $2.5 million guaranteed.

The Patriots traditionally use a 3-4 defense. However, weighing in at 300 pounds and hitting some ceiling fans at 6 foot 5 inches, Warren shouldn’t have too much of a problem playing in the 4-3.

Another point of interest is, according to PFT, the Patriots use a 4-3 alignment roughly half the time anyway. Therefore, Warren, a nine season veteran, will be far from clueless in making the scheme ‘change.’

What do you think Bronco nation? Like the signing of Warren?

    Scheme responsibilities
“Oi Fat Lad, stand there and don't let anyone run past you.”

    OH HELL YA!

  • Mergrath

I like it…health providing of course. Warren & Bunkley could potentially be a force against the run that we so desperately need! Filter in Thomas & Vickerson and we could potentially colapse the pocket on passing downs too.

Jon, if I were you I'd be serving up some “I told you so” to everyone that bashed what you were saying. 2 dts in 2 days it appears there was a plan…

  • MrEast

Not exactly. None of them have cleared any of their health issues or played a down yet as a Bronco.

  • dbroncs24/7

I'm sorry wasn't it you that was pissed yesterday saying “at least McDaniels went out and signed players”? thats exactly what just happened and now your changing your tune saying they need to perform? not what you were advocating yesterday when you just wanted to go out and sign players

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

One year deal and not overpriced – I like it!

  • flbronc

i've heard it reported that it's a 2 yr 2.5 guaranteed- max 10.  personally i think it is worth it, and like the signing provided he passes the physical.

  • MrEast

I'm not changing my tune. Look who wrote this article. I like the signing and I'm happy they did it. However, I'm not popping the champagne and ready to declare Denver as a team that is ready to win. This signing could be exactly like Jarvis Green. Warren has injury concerns and his production has fallen over the past few seasons, that is why they cut him in New England rather than releasing the younger guys on the roster.

We are rebuilding…not reloading, not one player away from greatness and I like that they are taking the cast-offs and signing them to short contracts and it looks like trying honestly to build from the draft.  Bronco fans need to exercise some patience because we are not going to be that good I think we are shooting for competitive rather than dominant at this point.

  • MrEast

A lot of patience. I trust that Fox has a big picture in mind. I just hope he knows how to paint it.

  • Rcsodak

Yes. He gets a yr to prove his health/worth. Smart deal.

  • dbroncs24/7

I never said that it put us in contention but the majority of people on this site were pissed that our front office had no plan (or that they didn't make a splash). I'm just saying they did, whether it is successful remains to be seen but so far I like the signings from a player and ESPECIALLY a financial standpoint.

  • NMBronc-in-DC

Now let's just hope that at some point they offload Orton.

  • http://manchester-architects.com T-Money

Why?  What has Tebow shown you that makes you think he is ready to start?

  • MrEast

They really haven't made a splash. The “biggest names” they've signed were guys that were cut.

Making a splash would be going out and signing players other teams are competing over.

  • NMBronc-in-DC

What I am hearing is that he has some work to do.  Actually think Quinn might have a better shot.  What I don't want to waste another minute of my life doing is watching Orton throw wide and collapse while in a Bronco uniform.  Orton starts, we are playing for next year.  And if that is the case, why not start Quinn or Tebow and see what they can do.

well, we need the size, no question… but yes, Warren has been somewhat injury prone, and let's be real, he's not a top tier player anymore…really would've liked to see us go after Edwards this off season…but he was being courted by a bunch of teams… In any case our D-line is underconstruction, as to what it's being made into is yet to be found…

  • dbroncs24/7

I know I was saying they executed their plan, and people were pissed they didn't make a splash be getting mebane or coefield but instead saved money that we need for the future

  • MrEast

What money for the future? There is a salary cap floor now.

The biggest hole on the team before the draft was defensive tackle. It was not addressed in the draft. It has been addressed by signing players that have been cut. That is not much of a plan.

  • jdkchem

Any news on Bunkley?  Is he reporting or pouting?

  • steeplebomb

Very well said.  I think that EFX have already demonstrated some patience.  It seems like the one constant through the draft and this free agency is that they refuse to reach.  They chose the best players available during the draft rather than reach for need, and have not traded a lot of future picks away for big name prospects in free agency.  They realize that championship teams are built through the draft, not cobbled together in free agency.  The real test will come if/when we have a few more losing seasons and fans start calling for their jobs.  Hopefully it never gets to that point.

  • dbroncs24/7

The money that we're currently still paying our two former head coaches, I think its around 6.5 mill and after this year we'll be off the hook for shanny. We must be the only team in history to be paying three head coaches! Plus by not breaking the bank for one or two players (which we need more) we can focus on rebuilding for the future.

  • MrEast

I think this year is going to be similar to the last two. The Broncos will have some good games… and some really really bad ones. It's not like this team is deprived of talent. The team is deprived of a consistent defense. Every year the scheme changes as does the coordinator and players on the defensive line.

  • crazykid

I'm going to reply just to see how small we can make this box.

  • areferee

Good idea craze…it's getting smaller, like some of the thoughts!

  • areferee

    Your turn, Kid!

  • dbroncs24/7

Smaller?? Am I lying when I say that our salary will decrease once our total coach's salary (we don't have to pay shanny anymore after this year) which will decrease over the next couple year?

  • crazykid

    one more time?

  • flbronc

he practiced yesterday, but didnt speak to reporters after the session according to the post.

  • areferee

    So much for consistency…

  • MrEast

You know what also be expensive? When Denver pays Fox and his successor.

  • crazykid

    ouch. burn

  • areferee

    OY!

  • dbroncs24/7

What experienced defensive super-bowl appearing coach would you have hired?

  • STOPBITCHINGORCHANGETEAMS

East you've become a negative prick. Actually, to be more accurate, a cancer to bronco fans everywhere (yes worse than kerry). It's a disgrace that you're a writer for a FANsite, please resign.
