Jeremy Jarmon

Jeremy Jarmon (90) at Redskins Training Camp

Here we have it folks, the first trade of the 2011 NFL season, Jabar Gaffney for defensive end Jeremy Jarmon.

The departure of Jabar Gaffney isn’t entirely shocking seeing how the Broncos are stocked at receiver and Gaffney’s $2.4 million salary will clear up more cap space.

Jarmon (6’3, 286) was picked up by the Redskins in the third round of the 2009 supplemental draft. At the age of only 23, he will compete with late round pick Jeremy Beal for a position on team. Jarmon played in 5 games for the Redskins last season, tallying 3 tackles, recording half a sack.

What do you think of this deal Bronco nation?

Hey Decker….You're up, get in there!!

Elway called him a defensive tackle on Twitter, so I'm assuming that's where the Broncos will use him. Considering the depth we have at WR, the need for some salary cap wiggle room, and the gaping black hole we have at DT, this was a good move.

    Cap-clearing move more than anything.

  • MrEast

At 286 pounds I hope they have no intentions of sticking him in the interior of the defensive line.

I'm not entirely thrilled about this move, it's not really a great deal straight up, but it does clear cap space.

Save some $$ and bolster d-line depth…Don't mind this deal at all. Hopefully this (along with an Orton trade) will help us go after some DT's.

  • flbronc

agreed… it clears cap room.  but from the pic above, he is in no way shape or form a dt.

The only surprise about Gaffney going is that he didn't end up in St Louis with McDaniels

  • Big_Pete

We still have Lloyd, Willis, Royal, Thomas (if healthy) and Decker as well as guys we signed. Our WRs are still strong. The nice thing about this is that Shanahan doesn't know squat about what a good Defensive Lineman looks like. Remember when he kept jettisoning our good DL men, only to have us watch them do great on other squads, and then replace them with guys he liked but were flops? Why would we think he's not doing the same exact thing in Washington? If Shanahan doesn't like  him, I automatically have to assume that Jarmon an play!

good point Big pete … Betrien Berry is a prime example ( i think thats how you spell his name.) he tore it up for AZ the year after we dealt him

  • Nisse

maybe elway is the new bowlen?

  • Nisse

the bad stats might be that he isnt a 3-4 guy. i would like to know if he played in any games the year before the redskins became a 3-4 team.

  • Gbrider61

It will be interesting what we get for Orton. Miami has a pretty solid group of D-linemen that could help us out

  • Joblow

I hate this deal.  Gaffneys salary isn't breaking the bank by any means and he has made some big catches the last couple of years. The Broncos are already somewhat deep at DE right now (Doom,Ayers,Hunter,Hagans, Jeremy Beal + others) and I feel the team is really young at WR.  They could have used Gaffney for one more year to help train the new ponies.

  • cj

were freeing cap space for a DT. Gaffney would have caught 60 balls all season anyways

  • Masaga91

hey isn't jarmon the guy that could jump out of a pool?

  • MrEast

Nope, that was Jarron Gilbert. Gilbert was drafted by the Bears in the 3rd round and now he is on the Jets' practice squad.

Glad to see him go. He drops to many crucial catches. He is known here in NE for costing the Pats the superbowl vs the Giants.

  • cj

Jarmon isnt listed as a DT on Elways Twitter.  “athletic defensive lineman”
Also while i was checking. We just signed Jeremy Beal DE Oklahoma

  • Glenner49

Hold Orton for a 1st round pick? Miami's dead set on grabbing him.
