So I made my plea and John Elway responded (kind of, but more to everyone; not just to me) and what’s been up Woody (thanks for mentioning the rally!)? Thanks for getting Shannon Sharpe in also (you old softy).

Now I am settling down with information received…

Jeff Legwold from THE Denver Post reports that the Denver Broncos offer to Champ Bailey consisted of less than $15 million guaranteed.

Now as Paul Harvey would say, “Here’s the rest of the story…

Methinks the Broncos may only be attempting to receive a bargain, if the Broncos were to use the franchise tag on Bailey it would guarantee somewhere in the ball park of $15-million. Champ has been on record stating that he would be okay with receiving the franchise tag. The Broncos reportedly offered four-years for $40-million with less than $10-million guaranteed in October.

There also is that little fact that the franchise tag could be absolutely worthless if a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is reached in the future. If that were to happen the Broncos could be left with little more than their jock straps in their hands.

So play it safe or go all out? Not since the days of Dan Reeves has Denver truly gone all out in an attempt to sign a free agent (and even then they couldn’t beat Al Davis and sign Tim Brown). Yet, you know who knows the value of a good free agent? Yep, it’s Elway.

I see the deal getting done, despite Bailey’s house being up for sale. Heck, if he gets all that money he’s going to need a new one anyway.

Gosh ian i sure hope so. I feel a little relieved after the new info in this article, but i guess the rest of the anxiety wont let up until he's signed. I think that if the broncos go full throttle regardless, champ would meet them half way if the Free Agent tag falls through due to a new CBA. I dont think champ would do that to them after they tryed to show good faith and put it all on the line for him just to see it fall through because a CBA agreement that should of been taken care of long ago but isnt because of peoples greed. as long as they take care of him he'll stay.

my bet is that because of the uncertainty over the CBA & Free agency that when (notice when not if!) its signed there will be a good bit of time between the signing and the opening of free agency. I can't see the league sticking to the same calendar where let's say that the CBA is sorted in april and as soon as the ink is dry – free agency starts.

The Broncos are right to wait – although of course they're only right if Champ doesn't leave!

Anyone else think we should give Atogwe (released by the Rams) a look if we're planning on keeping Champ at corner?

We could also sign Bob Sanders and wait until he gets hurt, then let someone like Darcel McBeth step up.

If anyone other than Denver had signed Tim Brown, Davis would have let him walk.

What ever it takes to keep 24 in a Broncos uniform. Weeks ago I called in and talked with Sandy Cluff… I stated then that I thought the Broncos might use the franchise tag on Champ and I basically got told that would be a stupid move. I still don't think so ;-)…
