Short of a link, Mike Florio and co. are up to it again, quoting Sports Illustrated‘s (and NBC’s) Peter King who in turn was quoting John Elway in saying,

“I don’t think Tim Tebow is a good quarterback at this level at this time.”

Talk about blow up/out.

Who is supposed to lead the team now? A second round draft pick for Kyle Orton sounds ridiculous with Elway’s rational as the man (Orton) who at several points in 2010 led the NFL in passing is now all of a sudden a front-runner in the non-existent quarterback controversy in Denver.

The controversy has just started. While Elway did not endorse Orton, he absolutely didn’t endorse Tebow as the 2011 starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos.

Fans have seemingly thrown their support behind Tebow and have somehow forgotten the fact the Orton played very well throughout the season despite a non-existent running game.

So where are your allegiances at now Nation? This quote brings up much more questions and concerns about where the team is heading. One thing is certain, we have no idea…

  • Ryan K.

My allegiances are with John Elway. He is the guy in charge now and I feel good about that. Bottom line is he knows QB's better than just about anyone out there.

He will not stick with someone just because the fan base wants him to, but will continue to aggressively pursue the guy who will get us to a Super Bowl.

  • Vince_marine

GARBAGE!!! This is someone trying to start something that isn't there. Elway said the exact opposite during his press conference this week. Elway knows that Tebow has some work to do, but like Tebow as a QB. Regardless, Tebow is going to be the QB next year. Denver has to much invested in him and he played well in the last four games. Orton played well, but he isn't a leader and can't make plays on his own like Tebow can. You ask where my allegiance is…It's with TEBOW!!!
Now start worrying about the defense and how to fix it.

  • JMStinson3

When Elroy looks around and sees he should have stayed a half-ass GOLF PRO and let the FANs who buy the tickets have some input UNTIL YOU GET A FREEKIN DEFENSE.By the way JOHN,YOU should have PERSUED BASEBALL where the DRUNKS are part of the JOB!!!

  • mikebirty

If the Broncos were in a win now situation you go with Orton, sadly they are not so Tebow should get 2011.

My only allegiancy is to the Broncos. I don't care who plays for them or what the QB is called as long as they try hard and play their best.

  • JMStinson3

Your RIGHT! Propably taken out of text the wrong way.I APOlIGIZE to JONH about the REMARKs. It's like you said a Family member sucked, and I know thats not true.I follow my GATORS into the PROs,and will pull for the BRONCO's FIRST as long as you have a GATOR on the TEAM.Prefferably,TEBOW!!!

Thanks for getting this story up Ian, I was headed over to do the same. Folks, I wouldn't put too much stock in this story. I watched Peter King declare this live on NBC and it came off as typical King, tooting his own horn while trying to make a storyline that isn't there. I think he quoted Elway completely out of context and ran with it. He said that Elway stated that he doesn't think Tebow is a very good quarterback. This coincides exactly with what Elway said during his press conference but King decided to omit the more important part. “Tebow is a dang good football player, now we just have to make him a dang good quarterback.” John doesn't think Tim is a good quarterback yet, but they are going to try to develop him into one. If you want a more realistic story look at McD being hired by the guys and purple and him pushing for an Orton trade with Denver.

He obviously doesn't like Tebow and doesn't think he's very good. Fine. Stick to your guns and let him go then, plenty of teams would take him happily and train him up properly in their system. Let's see how the fans enjoy another year of Kyle Orton.

  • NMBronc

That's it. You did it. You made reference to Broncos, Orton and Starting QB. I have not choice.

I fart in your general direction.

  • NMBronc

Ditto. Peter King is a media whore looking to Lindsay for a day.

Tebow knows he has alot of work to do. Much ado about nothing.

  • http://twitter.com/burke_kris Kris Burke

I used to look up to King quite a bit. This makes me think harder before trusting him again.

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

“He's a very good football player, and if anyone can turn themselves into a great QB, Tim can. Any speculation that the Denver Broncos are considering moving Tim is completely false.” — Elway on twitter
    http://twitter.com/johnelway/s

  • annie

Orton orton orton! Too much hype is surrounding Tebow right now. Orton is a consistent player and a good QB. I'll support him no matter where he ends up.

  • NMBronc

I fart in your general direction too.

  • TJ

    Farts are funny

  • anthony33

I said it before on an earlier post and was chastised by a few for it.

I'll say it again… Elway needs to to get off his tweet machine and just STFU. These are matters that NEED to be handled internally. Too many things get twisted and turned around and just creates chaos.

  • Burnetty 4 Broncos

or… he is doing the right thing in nipping the fallacy in the bud right away before Bill Williamson and Co. are reporting that the Broncos are officially trading Tebow to the Raiders and Mel Kiper Jr. cries tears of joy.

How could a rumor started by a broadcaster on National Television be handled internally? We have Elway on record twice supporting Tebow, and we have a goober on record saying Elway said Tebow sucks. I'm going with what Elway himself has said…

… but you could take your own advice… just sayin'

  • Dbaumga797

BT should take this article down…the reference link itself has a clarification from Elway on his comments. This is nothing more than an attempt to create a controversy where none exists. We expect better from BT!

  • The Mascot Army

Elway's twitter responses say it all. He was taken out of context to create a story where there is none.
His impression of Tebow is exactly as it looked at his press conference (i.e. very positive)

  • anthony33

The point is Burnetty, if you are paying any attention, is Elway needs to more careful when talking to these slugs. This thing spun out of control because Peter King adds his own trade spin to an incomplete quote.

No respect left for King. Elway needs to learn from it and get back to the process of hiring the next coach.

    Just sayin'

  • vince_mairne

Definately no respect for Peter King. What ever I had is gone now. I will never read his articles again.

  • anthony33

And Peter King is an idiot to imply so much that Tebow may be traded. Still, Elway needs to wise up and just play things close to the vest.

I have lost all respect for King. Shafty is the only one that knows what he’s talking about.

  • Kingpins10

Orton is consistent until the pocket closes in and his concrete shoes make him eat the ball (which is repeatedly). You forget that we were 3-10 under him.

Even if Tebow doesn't pan out, Orton is not the answer, for any team.

  • areferee

This is a non-issue. John Elway was hired as a football executive, not an orator. His open and truthful demeanor may get him in trouble occasionally is he is not perfectly clear with his words, especially when he is talking to the media that feeds on controversy.

However, the media has its responsibilities in not creating false impressions and in not bearing false witness in their reporting.

Elway's statements are consistent with his overall position on Tebow, in that he is a quarterback in the making, and the Broncos have every intention of helping him learn to be as great a position player as he is an athlete.

    Let's move on.

  • mikebirty

ah so its a monty python fight you want!

go an boil your bottoms son of a silly person.

when will people realise tebow is not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy

  • LevonZevon

Is this a joke about drunk blogging? I don't get it.

  • Jops

Speaking of Drunks… have another. And when you sober up….. revisit your ignorant post.

  • Jops

    (it is spelled Realize.)

  • glaxsnax

Why are you here? It is always a “win now” situation. That's the point of Pro Sports! Even in the off-season. Further, if you “don't care who plays for [the Broncos] why, I ask again, are you here. On this site, taking up space on my screen, compelling me to address you because I can't stand pusilanimous statements from flakes.

  • Alvaradochino

I think they should put orton cause they dont got no more choice who to pick.

  • JOSE29337

I THINK IT NICE TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE BRONCOS TEAM AND THIS IS INPORTANT .

  • cris

    I think he is good

  • Aaron Castro80

I say tim tebow has a good arm and the broncos should have him for starting quarter back i mean why wouldn't elway like him he trains hard and just needs to get use to the nfl

  • Alvaradochino

i dont know I play soccer

  • Jose29337

tim is a good qb elway is wrong and a wild animal.

  • waynecarter

I like this comment because i think tebow is not very good at all he does need to get traned better then he is.

  • Nazi

    jews are bad

  • Scottyf

i agree 2. Everyone should always try their best and if they don't succeed, then they can woek harder this year.

  • isabel

i'm not even a bronco fan but tim tebow is a good player in the NFL come on name one person who hasn't have his time messing up? If tebow ends up leaving some how then they are losing a good player

  • Flowers

    I aggre he is good

  • Ic_bronco7

I think broncos should pick up DT Fairly if his still on the board because we all know we need help up front.. and maybe pick up kallen moore from boise St in the 2 or 3 round if he is still there because his going to be a steal for someone his a good QB has everything to be a great QB maybe not the arm streght but thats nothing that cant be fix with some weight traing ..because we all know tim tebow is not a QB they should just switch him to FB hell get alot more playing time..

  • Ic_bronco7

No one Has said his not a good football player what people are saying is his not a QB 2 different things..and he really is not if u see his trows he trew this year u can see the ball has no slip to it except in short passes when he threw the deep balls the ball floated in the air to much if it wasnt for the WR or bad play of the CB they would be picks.. so i think the broncos should pick up Kallen more in the 2 or 3rd round if he is there because he is a goood QB

  • Silveradored_2011

Well said. Work on the Defense and I will tell you this. If they don't seriously look at KC Matthews from oregon state as a linebacker they are not looking. Look at the Matthews family Clay (Greenbay) Dad Clay and Bruce Matthews. That is family football and that play against Auborn. Wow now that is a player we need

  • Jake

Tebow tebow tebow! yes orton did good without a running game. but so did tebow. if anything he gave us a running game as well as a passing game. did orton give us that? i dnt think so. and if it werent for lloyd, gaffney and royal, orton wouldnt have those numbers

  • Darwin

Elway said Tebow is a football player right now but needs work as a quarterback. I think he said it to let Tebow know he needs to keep working on being a quarterback. He reverts to running the ball too quickly now. No way a running QB is going to make it long term in the NFL. I think Tebow's instinct is to run when things break down-gotta work on that.

  • Hellofromcolorado

All I know is if the broncos keep Orton over Tebow I will follow a new team. I was born in colorado and have been a bronco fan my whole life. I never thought I would even mutter these words but here it is. I Hate Orton he sucks. Next year will be his 7th year with only 6 fourth quater comebacks. When he runs it looks like it hurts. Tebow 3 starts 1 4th quater comback. I rest my case.
