Josh McDaniels released the following statement on Monday night:

“I am very grateful to Pat Bowlen and the Broncos’ organization for giving me the opportunity to be the Head Coach of such a proud franchise. I would like to thank all of the people who helped us over the last two years. I am especially appreciative of the efforts of every player, coach and member of the personnel department who worked so hard every day. I wish Pat Bowlen and the Broncos’ organization nothing but the best in the future.”

I actually thought McD was a pretty classy guy overall. I have no idea if he had any involvement in SpyGate II but considering what was happening I wouldn't hold it against him. I don't condone it by any means but I wouldn't hold it against anyone.

You could see his demeanor completely changed after that happened though and he seemed almost embarrassed at how the team was performing under him (as he should be but it really became obvious it was affecting him).

I'm glad he is out as our coach but I certainly wish him the best of luck.

i'm hoping we sign John Gruden… and sign a true GM

McDaniels was set up to fail from the start. I really question Bowlens decicion to put a rookie head coach with a rookie GM? It just doesn't make sense. I think McDaniels intentions were good, but his lack of leadership, experience and maturity ultimatly showed in the end. I would hope both parties learn from this disaster.

    I agree

I suggest Urban Meyer as the new coach, you know it makes sense!

(lights blue touchpaper and stands well back)

dude seriously, put the drink down right now and step back away from it. this isnt Florida and Urban Meyer's gimmick offense would get destroyed in the NFL.

  • mikebirty

Sorry I'll stop feeding the trolls.

  • NMBronc

At least we have a gimmick QB to run the gimmick offense.

Regardless of the mistakes McD made, I have a feeling he will be a head coach again. It sounds like his players and his ownership did not want it to come to this, but you can't have a HC with training wheels in the NFL. Yes he had too much on his plate, and the fault goes both ways there. Ownership should not have offered and McD should not have accepted.

I really hope both sides learned some valuable lessons.

I am glad Josh is leaving with remorse and gratitude. I hope it is not feigned. The Broncos have been a very classy organization for a very long time (by NFL standards). I like to see that sentiment maintained.

in the words of one deadspin commenter after Salisbury was fired from the WWL…good luck running a denny's d-bag!

If I ever get to release a statement like this, I'd be so tempted to finish it with “now play me out keyboard cat”
