So, after last week’s fiasco, we can all expect a (justified) big drop in the rankings. Nothing to do but take a deep breath and get it over with fast… like ripping a band-aid… I hate ripping band-aids… Our weekly perusal around the Interwebz for water cooler fodder. (Number in parenthesis represents last week’s ranking).

ESPN: 27th (22)
The Broncos have been outscored by 61 points, the third-worst mark in the league.

FOX: 28th (25)
Talk about the wheels coming off. That loss to the visiting Raiders last week is about as embarrassing as it gets. QB Kyle Orton played his worst game this season, but the defense didn’t exactly show up, either. Hopefully the London air will bring some life back to this football team.

CBS: 28th (26)
They keep falling week by week. That defense is horrible. It can’t stop anybody. Worse, they don’t have the running game to keep it off the field.

Yahoo!/NFP: 28th (25)
That Broncos defense looked soft—tissue soft—against the Raiders.

USA Today: 27th (22)
They have gone 4-13 since opening last season 6-0.

Average rank: 27.60. Average change: down 3.6

I have a theory that the Broncos are under Josh McDaniels' bye week jinx. This is how it works: Josh McDaniels has a jinx that lasts from his first bye week through his second, and then the curse is released.

I'm shocked we're not 30-32 on someone's list this week.

  • AKfan

Wow, been a lifelong fan and I can't remember seeing the Broncos at a lower point then this. Josh better right this ship quickly, starting this Sunday. If they lose to the Niners with Troy Smith in London it will be truly sad. Teams should either be contending for the playoffs or the super bowl, or clearly building up to that level. Right now this team is getting worse at everything except passing the ball. Sunday will show how much pride these guys have in themselves. Right that ship or get out of town.

The boys had a terrible game, but they are still more fun to watch than that 6-0 joke of a team we had last year. The O-line is young and will get better. If this year's draft and free agency work was any indication, next year will be good too with a much greater draft focus in the early rounds on defense. Our record doesn't show it and last week was no indication either, but this team is headed in the right direction. Josh will not be fired nor will Xanders and nor should they be. Would you rather be a Shanny-Redskins fan with A few more wins in a weak NFC with needs at nearly every position? Come-on faithful…Hold it together!

  • Crwolff

Sorry…. but I think this current Bronco club has needs at nearly every position…. even more so than the Redskins!

  • AKfan

Would I rather cheer for a winning team contending for a division title or laughingstock? No question I prefer winners. Some young players get better, and some do not (see Richard Quinn). There is no guarantee. There is a guarantee that old players will get worse which is a major concern on defense. When Josh was hired Bowlen said that he expected to compete for Super Bowls and a change was in order. When Josh was hired he told the fans to judge him by his record. Fans should do as they ask. Time remains to get things moving in the right direction and it needs to start on Sunday. I assume that they will draft defense early next year, but I assumed that the last 2 years when Denver was swimming in high draft picks, and they chose not to (besides Ayers). We now see the results of that choice.

    That's what I was expecting.

Couple of days after the Jets game, I posted that I think that we would make a turn around and possibly get into the playoffs. Boy I am sure eating my words. Now all I hope for is the #1 pick in the draft next yr, of course we prob trade away cause we do not want to pay someone that much money.

I predict a loss against SF. We never seem to do good when we travel long distances. Also, is it me or does anyone else think it is strange that SF flew to London on Sunday or Monday and we are waiting till Thurdays afternoon. I just hope that doesn't effect us. I know people will think I am being negative, but the Raiders game proved that Josh isn't experience enough to be a head coach. I like some of the things he does and I know he is learning, but do we really have the patients to allow him to learn on the job here? I hate to say, but I really think we need to look into getting another coach next yr. Unfortunately, there isn't really any talented HCs out there. Maybe Cowher, but I think he is happy in his cush job as a TV analyst. Who knows. Go Broncos!!!

Uh Oh… Grammar patrol where are you? I meant to say patience. Sorry!!!

  • areferee

If we lose in London, we will be.

Considering our injury list this year, and the fact that our team is on the critical list, the word “patients” seems appropriate. Nice post.

Never thought I would say this as a Bronco fan since the day they drafted Floyd Little, and it pains me greatly, but if losing and losing big on Sunday means the end of McD quickly… then so be it.

I always have and always will bleed orange and blue, but what happened on Sunday, completely inexcusable, tells me it's time to move in another direction… and now.
