Last night while Kyle and I were recording our podcast with Asian Orange for Broncos Nation Podcast we mused about why Brandon Marshall’s agent Kennard McGuire would be in the same city as all 32 NFL owners and coaches. We disagreed at first about why McGuire would be in town, but basically settled on the fact that he’s most likely there to speak to at least one of the teams in regards to Marshall.

The Denver Post’s Mike Klis writes today quoting Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll‘s comments made yesterday in regards to what type of talks have taken place between Marshall’s agent McGuire and Seahawks general manager John Schnieder.

There has been some talk,” Carroll said. “John has handled that so far. But it’s very preliminary.

Talk indicates that even if it is preliminary the Seahawks have began speaking about a contract with Marshall. This is not a Jamie Dukes quote/unquote, ‘Bombshell!’ by any means, but Carroll’s word choice shows that the Seahawks have not given up on their quest for obtaining Marshall and Klis’ article insinuates that McGuire is there to see the Seahawks.

However, McGuire’s presence in Orlando could mean that there’s interest from any of the NFL’s 32 teams and McGuire is there to handle it or at the very least to drum up interest. [dp/broncos]

My best guess is that Marshall will remain a Denver Broncos player as the time limit expires on being able to speak to other team’s restricted free agents, but there will be a feeding frenzy as the draft approaches. My hope is that Denver will stick to their guns and not accept anything less than a first round draft pick or the player equivalent of Marshall’s ability.

Here’s to hoping though… What do you think Nation? Where does he end up?

I've said for ever he isn't going anywhere this off-season. But I'm probably wrong. My logic is; His price is to steep for a guy could get in trouble with the law. Why not just wait till next season when he'd be a Unrestricted free agent.

I'm guessing the Broncos will sign him to a year contract, after a hold-out and no offers that are appealing to the club.

I Hope I'm right, I'd hate to see him leave. But it is a business and bla bla, whatEvar. When's that podcast going to be posted? Keep up the good work BT.

Brandon should be signed to a fair and long contract. He is growing up. For some it just takes a little longer than others. He is worth more than Seattle's #6 pick, and if we take their other pick then we essentially traded Brandon for Alphonso Smith…The thought of that sickens most Bronco fans. Sign Brandon and Tony so we can get get better focus on the draft.

alright i call this bad GM all the way. Do you guys realize we would of had two first round picks this year. Yeah we trade our natural number one for a second round, and the player that we traded for hasn't yet contributed. Now we trading arguably the 3 to 5 best wide receiver in the NFL for a #6 pick in the draft. Our only goal in drafting this player is in hopes of him playing to a high potential. I hope our coach and GM grow some balls and offer the man a decent contract. It doesn't have to be some rediculous deal but some where to a 5-6 year deal worth about 35m and 2m in bonuses.

We did have a contract offer to Brandon Marshall last season, it was worth more than the tender and it was a multi-year deal. It was mostly back loaded and a lot of it allegedly relied on off the field behavior.

He didn't sign it. If he was good enough last season to sign for multiple years, I don't know why he wouldn't be good enough this season for multiple years. It's more likely that the terms just aren't there yet.

My head thinks Marshall will be in Denver next season, but that could be it.

Podcast should be ready and up this evening =) Thanks for asking, we are all sick with allergies, so it should sound interesting haha!

One other thing, Ian. Lindsey Jones reported a couple of days ago that she had a surprise passenger on her flight to Miami….Brandon Marshall. Seems like more than a coincidence that Marshall and his agent just happen to be in Miami at the same time as all 32 owners, GMs, and head coaches. http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/2010/03/22/

thats where my head and heart is at

  • http://broncoszone.blogspot.com/ Jon

    Cool

  • Paradisimo

Why would you hope we sign him for a year and then let him go for nothing? That would be the worst-case scenario in my opinion. We're better off trading him for a 2nd rounder and at least getting something. If I thought we were serious Super Bowl contenders I might feel different but I think we're still a year or two away from this.

  • steeplebomb

Got to get myself a six pack in preperation

  • steeplebomb

I agree with you for the most part except for Brandon marshall growing up. People don't mature over the span of a year. They don't change over night like that. I remember after the McD/Brandon hugging scene that everyone said that and look what happened. He babied out at the first sign of adversity and sat out the last game of the season when his team needed him.

  • guest

if he isnt gone this year, he'll be franchised next year and either signed long term or traded at that point. if he stays clean this season, there should be a decent market for him, barring no work stoppage in 2011.

  • TD30isMVP

I firmly believe that they threw the first round tender on him so that they could gauge what the actual value/interest of Brandon is. He can talk to other teams and both sides can see a) how big of a contract he is worth to teams and b) let Brandon see that maybe he isn't as sought after as his agent kept telling him. Then after it all plays out give him a big yet unspectacular contract.

  • http://broncoszone.blogspot.com/ Jon

Haha, I listen to it with lunch (or dinner this time)

  • dmvegasbronco

If I remember right, BM turned down the $7.5/yr offer last year because it did not contain $20m guarantee.

  • dmvegasbronco

You are spot on. Bandon just wants that guarantee money.
I am on the fense. BM in Denver is OK and if Seattle wants to give #14 and a 4th, I could live with that also.

  • Jeff Vee

I dont know why the Broncos wont just man-up and pay Marshall, where is the logic to all this? He has had some problems in the past as is the case with many players and in my opinion the Pros out weigh the cons, He is one of the best receivers in the NFL, so why not keep him on the team?

  • http://www.robertclarkmtfs.com/ Robert Clark MTFS

I think a lot of us are over looking the big picture when it comes to Marshall. So many people keep saying he is worth the money and he is a top 5 WR in the league so ignore his off-field behavior issues.

The problem is not his talent or his off-field issues as much as it is his UNWILLINGNESS to sign a deal that doesn't give him money if he has off-field issues.

    That does two things

    1. Makes teams think when it comes down to it he isn't really serious about cleaning up his act. Nobody wants to pay top dollar for someone who isn't going to be around.

    2. How do you sign a guy who isn't really serious about staying out of a trouble to a high paying guaranteed contract? YOU DON'T!

If we guarantee him the 20 Million or whatever he wants and 2 weeks into the season, he isn't practicing hard or gets arrested again, we not only lost 20 million dollars but we also lost out on a 1st round draft pick. Now everyone is saying what an idiot McD is because he SIGNED Marshall and we all knew this would happen.

This is not a black and white issue. In fact, when it comes to Marshall, black and white aren't even in the color spectrum.

  • Andy

What's up with Brandon wearing the Mr. Rogers sweater?

  • http://broncoszone.blogspot.com/ Jon

    I prettu much agree

  • Jeff Vee

Thanks for the insight; I wasn’t aware that he refused to sign a contract with a commitment to stay out of trouble. If that is the case then it shines a new light on the issue and also clears up a little confusion as well.

I do remain optimistic that he could stay with the Broncos, get happy and also clean up his off field antics. That would be the ideal scenario.

    Thanks again for the explanation

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

We talked about this in the pod cast… They were in Orlando though, not Miami =) However, definitely thinking along the same lines as you!

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

Andy, I know! Guy needs a stylist, should ask Darcel McBath who styles him…

  • seahawksrule

He is going to Seattle and the longer Denver waits the cheaper the price will be. As of right now Denver would get the 60th pick, a 4th round pick and Rob Sims.

  • SivNiz

you know, maybe we should throw in Dumervil as well. Then that might be a trade that would actually happen

  • gin

got a link to the podcast?

  • Gary R.

Whatever happens with the old B-Marsh, we ought to draft the new one.

He's strong-shouldered 6'4, 212 lb. Carlton Mitchell (except he's from USF instead of Central Florida).

Then, wait for him to flourish and trade him four years from now (for a first and a fourth).

Just kidding about the last line. I think.

  • Laramie fan

In your heart you should know BM cannot be trusted . Would you hire him as an employee and not worry that his bad behavior will cause problems with the other employees and hurt your business ? BM is not going to put his heart into the Broncos quest for success . Find someone that appreciates the game and can help his team .

  • Doom92

I really like Brandon as a player and would love to see him be a long term Bronco but I would say NO I wouldn't trust hiring him to my business given the track record.

I think its one or the other right now… Sign him and pay him OR trade him. Even if we got the pick that we gave Seattle to pick a dud it wouldn't be him that we were basically trading for, as suggested, it would be for whom ever they choose in that spot. Personally, I don't think that would be Marshall Quality at the spot.

But still say, Sign OR Trade…

I hate to admit it but I think McImature and company are in a bit of a pickle when it comes to BM, they could be screwed either way they go!!!

  • orangetexan

I just can't help but think that right now all three sides are putting together the framework for a deal; however, I also think everyone is going to use the negotiations process to the fullest, allowing it to drag out until draft day. It'll be interesting to see if another team comes into the process at the last minute….if a trade isn't going to happen until the draft, it would make sense to stay away until the last second, so as to avoid unnecessarily creating a bidding war.

loosing b.m. would set the broncos back from yet another play off year. last year he broke the nfl record of most catchs in a game. and i believe we would have gone to the play offs if coach let him play the last game.here is an encreditable talent and the coach is going to let it go. lets get a coach that will give us a chance to compete at a high level.

  • blaine

i believe marshall will stay in denver have a great season and the past will be forgotten. marshall will be happy with quinn and wanna stay. with quinn coming in ,and i believe will be the starter, it's almost like a fresh start.

  • broncosfan007

I agree, we have got to spend money to be a contender. Just look at it this way, if we don't get a player with the same ability out of it (either draft or traded player), then we are on the loosing end of the trade. What are the chances that any player we get for Marshall, that be trade or draft, will even come close to the on field production of Marshall…. I say very slim to none. Either way if Marshall leaves Denver, we loose.
