Denver Broncos Coach Josh McDaniels talks with defensive coordinator Mike Nolan during practice at Broncos Training Camp on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at Dove Valley. (John Leyba, The Denver Post)

As citizens of Broncos Country react to the news that Mike Nolan has resigned as Denver Broncos defensive coordinator, the most overwhelming question persists to be, simply, “Why?”

One possible explanation has surfaced from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Schefter reports that, before the Broncos and Nolan parted ways, the Miami Dolphins formally requested permission to interview him for their open defensive coordinator job. Furthermore, according to multiple news outlets, Nolan and Miami already have an interview lined up.

As is the case with these things, we’ll probably never get the full extent or every detail on how things went down. But this certainly suggests that an opportunity to coach elsewhere was appealing to Nolan, and *perhaps* was even the catalyst for their “mutual separation.”

I think Nolan was fed up working with that jackass(McDaniels) and saw an opportunity with a better team, with a brighter future(Miami) and bolted. Then on the flip side, McDaniels has a hard on for anything New England and wanted to bring in Pees, so it worked for both of them, unfortunately were still stuck with McDaniels and our franchise will continue it demise.

it doesn't matter what comes out, Denver fans won't hear the truth… McD will get run out of town before he gets a chance to do well. Going 6-0 was the worst thing that could have happen to this rebuilding team…

  • TheTroglodyte

    Dennis Green said it best

“You. Don't. Know. You think you know, but you just don't know. And you never … will.”

Every McD fan will back him on this and every hater will try to throw him under the bus. Nobody, especially at this point has a clue what they are talking about when it comes to McD whether it be good or bad. Everything is based on assumptions and unfortunately more often than not stupidity.

If you can do something to make the situation better there is no reason to bitch. If you can't do anything to make the situation better then bitching about it will do no good. The guy has 2 more years to make it work. Give him the opportunity and take a chill pill. Nolan leaving sucks. There is nothing else to be said. Only time will tell the outcome of this.

I've tried to be supportive of McDaniels, I never liked the hire but obviously hoped he would succeed cause I want the Broncos to win but I'm starting to see a pattern here, no one wants to be around the guy. Anyone with any talent wants to get as far away from him as possible.

  • anthony33

259 yards rushing against a team that had to win… by one guy.

I feel the same way. I really really really tried to like this guys but ever since his dumbass decision to sit Brandon and Tony for THE BIGGEST game of the season and all this crap that is starting to get going…. I just want him to get fired. It's really starting to piss me off.

  • http://manchester-architects.com T-Money

I don't think any coach should deny anybody the right to interview for any team. It just says “I'm selfish and I'll do anything to keep it that way”. I can see why nobody wants to be on his team.

  • rcsodak

I must've missed where Brandon and Tony switched to playing defense….

    :coffee:

  • TheTroglodyte

Yeah and if Nolan takes another D-Coord position then it means him and McD had “Philosophical Differences” on how things should be done.

Considering Nolan's track record as a D-Coord (and my personal belief that if you hire someone to do a job you let them do it) my tendency would be to say those yards are probably more on McD than Nolan.

Again though, I don't care either way. It's a game and a team that has no idea I even exist so I'm not going to get my panties all in a ruffle over something I have no say in.

McD isn't getting fired this year no matter how much some people may hate him so I'm happy enough to hope for the best. Hopefully next year will be better than the last 10.

  • rcsodak

    I agree with The Trog…..
You McD haters will see anything/everything as his fault. So cry me a f'ing river! The sky ISN'T falling. The defense was SHIT! Pure and simple. Nolan gets to go to another D that's already good. Looks to me like he doesn't like a challenge. Maybe he was fed up with having to work hard to get the 49'ers respectable, and now, just wants to 'coach' a D that's already good?
Maybe he doesn't like the cold?
Maybe he wants to live by an ocean again?
Maybe he looked at his horoscope and it said “Your sun sets in the East”.

    THE SKY IS FALLING!
    THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!

  • DantePakistan

Guess we'll just sit around and watch our franchise turn into the Raiders?

  • WhidbeyBronco

Which point are you trying to make? That the defense sucked so we're moving on? Or the others? Maybe if you throw two or three more options out there you'll be able to run an I-told-you-so on the 'McD haters'?

You seem like you're pretty upset and making fun of the folks that are upset at the same time. Wishy-washy much?

Funny thing is though, you're right for the most part. Except that if you're saying you'd run your DC after one year in a new system… not.

  • DantePakistan

Good news, Chargers gave Norv an extension, so while they still may continue to dominate the AFC West, we all know they will never win in the playoffs.

  • Thank You McDaniel

Whoever said MIAMI had a good D is an idiot. It was ranked like 25th in the league…how's that for a challenge?

  • TheTroglodyte

“Except that if you're saying you'd run your DC after one year in a new system”

You know what happens when you keep making assumptions don't you?

    What's done is done.

Moving on… the rumor mill has Dean Pees becoming our next DC. Don't know much about him, but here are his defensive stats (TYPG) for the past 4 years.

    2006 – 6
    2007 – 4
    2008 – 10
    2009 – 11

    In scoring (points against)
    2006 – 2
    2007 – 4
    2008 – 9
    2009 – 5
Keep in mind that in 2008 and 2009 NE began the process of rebuilding their defense. For '09 they lost the likes of Seymour, Bruschi and Harrison and still finished 11.

Again, I don't know much about the guy, but those numbers are impressive.

Maybe Nolan leaving isn't such a bad thing???

you know it's a beautiful thing, the NFL…

there are 31 other teams you can root for, if your looking to escape the “demise”

Sing “Nearer, my God, to Thee”
The iceberg's on the starboard bow
    Won't you dance with me

Well, they soon used up all of the lifeboats
But there were a lot of us left on board
I heard the drummer sayin' “Boys, just keep playin'”
“Now we're doin' this gig for the Lord”

There's a wild-eyed boy in the radio shack
    He's the last remaining guest
He was tappin' in a Morse code frenzy
    Tappin' “Please God, S.O.S.”

  • AtomicLeo

Yeah, I rooting for the Saints this year. Would love to see Brees oist a trophy before Rivers, especially after the way he was treated in SD.

  • AtomicLeo

Until a coordinator or coach or GM from the NE actually does something, then I'll be interested in their performance at NE. Right now it looks like it's all Belichick and Brady.

  • AtomicLeo

Let's see 8-8 record, running off the DC at the end of each season and team choking (quitting) in a most win game at the end of the season. I'm suuuuuure am glad we fired Shanahan so things would change in Dove Valley.

  • DantePakistan

I am so critcal of the Broncos because I love them, grew up in Denver and have lived in GA, VA, MO, TX, CA, NC and MD, if I wanted to change my team I could have had many choices. You expect the most from the ones you love.

  • abowyer

I was upset now I am livid! I gave McDouche a chance even after all his rookie mistakes, but this takes the cake. I had decided to give him anouther year to see what he could do to keep me as a fan. Well, after today I will have to pick a new team. I will be selling all of my Denver Bronco, John Elway (Sorry John), and all the other players I have followed thru my 30 years of being a fan, on e-bay if any of you are willing to follow a team imploding. So long team!

  • TheTroglodyte

You were never a true fan anyway. Just do me a huge favor and when the Bronco's make the playoffs again, don't try to come back.

  • WhidbeyBronco

i make an ass out of u?

    kidding… it's what i thought you meant.

  • WhidbeyBronco

30 years my ass! quick, name five players and two coaches from our team twenty years ago! ( let alone thirty – I'm a 1976er myself but i read…)

Another bandwagon/ liar bites the dust… SEE ya!!!

Be mad… sure. Give up? F_cking NEVER!!!
