Mike Nolan resigns as Broncos’ coordinator

In a surprising move Monday, Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Mike Nolan has resigned after one season with the club.  The decision to part ways was mutual between Josh McDaniels and Nolan after a meeting Monday.

“I have great respect for Mike and wish him success in the future,” McDaniels said in a brief team statement.

Nolan was hired by McDaniels in 2009 and transformed the Broncos’ 2008 29th-ranked 4-3 defense into the 7th-ranked 3-4 unit of last season.

As the Broncos turn their eye to filling Nolan’s place, one name to keep an eye on is Dean Pees. McDaniels’ colleague in New England resigned from his post as defensive coordinator of the Patriots last week.

Whomever McDaniels hires will be the Broncos’ fifth defensive coordinator in five years.

It’s hard to describe this in any other way than as a big loss to the Broncos.  More as it develops…

    How's this team getting better? 8-8 last year, 8-8 this year…coaches leaving, players leaving, trading 1st rd picks for 2nd rd picks. Eddie Royal sure looked better this season(sarcasm).

    LMAO. Cutler a ProBowl QB this year? And what has Marshall done for the team? It's not like he leads the league in anything but PERSONAL records. Hell, in his interviews, he even talks about how he has these “personal goals”. I'm tired of his “me/me” statements. Give him a big contract and he most likely goes the same route as his buddy with the Faiduhs. McD has just finished his initial year of running a team. Finishing with a BETTER record than Shanny, and he didn't have a HoF QB on his roster. Wake up, Joe.

    Were you saying the same thing the last umpteen years that Shanny didn't get the team to the playoffs? Let me guess, you were prolly one of those that hated Plummer as well, right? Even though he had the team in the hunt every year!

    That game was a message hear me. Thats for that petty shit that McD showed to Marshall and Tony. That wasn't a effort period. Nolan saw that Josh was an ass wipe. Thats why he split.
