Previewing, breaking down, and picking the winners of this weekend’s playoff action. Your picks and game discussion in the comments.
The Story: The New York Jets were 7-7 when the Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals decided to lay down and let them back into the playoffs, but after a 37-0 shellacking of the Bengals last week, two turnover-free games by Mark Sanchez, and the most media-repeated stats of the 2010 season (“#1 defense, #1 scoring defense, #1 running team!”), the Jets look like a legitimate contender.Â
The Breakdown: The Bengals have gone 1-3 down the stretch, but they expect to have RB Cedric Benson healthy, along with run-stuffing DT Domata Peko, who has missed the last five games with a knee injury. Getting Peko back will be huge as the Bengals try to stop Jets C Nick Mangold from opening up the types of holes that have led the Jets to the #1 rushing attack. Meanwhile, the Bengals secondary boasts possibly the league’s best cornerback tandem in Jonathan Joseph and Leon Hall, who led the NFL in passes defensed by a DB duo.
The Pick: I like Cincinnati at home, healthy enough to stop the run, and definitely talented enough on the back end to force Sanchez into some mistakes. This will be a low-scoring affair. Bengals 13, Jets 10.
