[Mike Shanahan]

The Mike Shanahan team turnstile (as opposed to coaching carousel… ahem) has already reportedly come to a stop, mere hours after it officially got spinning.

That’s because Shanahan’s most likely destination has been known for months: the Washington Redskins, where owner Dan Snyder has been pining for a chief of Shanahan’s pedigree all season. Earlier today, Shanahan landed in DC to meet with Redskins brass regarding their head coach opening — Jim Zorn was unceremoniously fired Monday — and reports now indicate that Shanahan could be introduced as the next ‘Skins coach as soon as Tuesday.

The news places the former Denver Broncos coach mercifully out of the AFC West and the conference altogether, where, by current scheduling protocols, the two wouldn’t face until 2013.

For now, all that’s left of the Shanahan Watch is scouting the adverbs of those in the know — waiting for the “reportedly”s and “expectedly”s to turn into “officially.”

Good luck to Shanny in Washington. As I am all for a change I do appreciate the two Super Bowls he help win for us, Which should have been three if they didnt choke against the Jaguars.

I am just stoked we won't need to pay him 10 million next year if he gets this job.

  • d_e_e

Glad he's finally back in the NFL, but I doubt he can reinvent himself enough not fall on his face.

Goodluck Shanahan , hope we smoke you when we face you.

For those of you that think this is harsh, I guarantee Shanny isnt upset at the Broncos failure this year.

wow i couldnt have been more right if i tried. i said that Shanny would NEVER take a job where he has to build a defense. already there is Orakpo, Haynesworth, Hall, Landry and Fletcher. well let me just congratulate the Redskins on many, many years of 7-9, 8-8 and 9-7 finishes.

  • d_e_e

    I agree Kerry,

I think he's way too overhyped, dont get me wrong I loved him when he was here, but sometimes your too close to a player/coach to see them for the reality.

Shanny is a excellent X and O coach, but I find it laughable that anything thinks McD's ego is anywhere neart the Shanny's ego.

I dont think he will save the Redskins… maybe for the hell of it , he'll try to convert them into a 3-4 … now that would be funny.

  • WhidbeyBronco

Imagine real Broncos fans not giving Shanny his due respect! Oh yeah! You folks (dee/Kerry) Don't remember what it was like before him!! Silly spoiled Broncos fans!!!

Meanwhile… Mike??!! You really think you can be successful working for an idiot like Snyder? I see you still have your ego intact. Too bad you couldn't get that Cowboys job. Good luck. er. Not. …HATE the Redskins.

  • Skinsfan

WhidbeyBronco wasn't the score 42-10? I would hate the Skins too if I were you…..

true shanny doesnt have to build a defense- they do have some good parts on that side of the ball. but he is going to totally have to clean house on offense. i am guessing that all their offensive linemen are big joe gibbs type players- which we all know that shanny doesnt like. do they they will need more depth at wr. they will likely have to sign or draft a qb that shanny is comfortable with. portis has durability issues.

i think that the pressure that snyder puts on him to 'win now' is going to be huge. plus when you need all that help, and your owner has a let me go sign one player for 100 mil attitude and hamstring my team cap wise in doing so that is just going to make his job tougher.

i hope shanny does well, but i think that the cards are stacked against him.

im grateful for the 2 SB's too. however im never gonna proclaim Shanny to be some great coach until he rebuilds a team and wins another SB.

look what he had when he showed up in Denver. Elway, Atwater, Zimmerman, Habib, Sharpe, Braxton. he had a ton of talent and won 2 SB's quickly. and i dont care what anyone says, Shanny DID NOT invent the ZBS. Alex Gibbs did.

Shanny had so much already there that it takes away from, not helps, his legacy. i mean Jon Gruden won a SB. but that team was already there and Gruden just rode them to the title. and after the last ten years of mediocre football, it showed just how good Shanny really is. he is a very good coach. great? hall of fame? no and no.

ih he had just been the head coach and nothing more we could have won more SB's. but he just had to stick his nose in on the defense and just had to be the front office guy. his ego and predictable play calling sank the Broncos.

  • kerry

Shanny doesnt know how to build a defense. i fully believe that was the MAIN reason he took this job. he looked around and saw what he already had on defense and said to himself “oh i just have to build my offense” Shanny will NEVER take a job where he has to build the defense.

I just posted this on twitter, but I wonder if he regrets the Portis for Bailey trade now…
