The Line: Broncos by 3.5
Who’s hot: OLB Brian Orakpo. While the Redskins’ season has been a disappointment, rookie Brian Orakpo’s has not. The first round pick out of Texas has made an impact from Week One. He starts at left outside linebacker and is second on the team with 5.5 sacks, two coming against the Atlanta Falcons last week.
Who’s not: Offensive line. The Redskins offensive line allowed QB Jason Campbell to be sacked five times in the first half against the Falcons. The first drive — a three and out — was particularly embarrassing. Clinton Portis had no running room from his blockers, rushing for one yard on two carries. Then, on third down, the offensive line was tasked with blocking all of three defensive pass rushers from the Falcons. Five on three. Not a single one of them was blocked, and Campbell was eaten alive by all three defenders.
Matchup to watch: Broncos LG Russ Hochstein and C Casey Wiegmann vs. Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth. The Broncos have decided to bench longtime starting LG Ben Hamilton. Russ Hochstein, Hamilton’s replacement, better be ready — Haynesworth has been the league’s best defensive lineman over the past three seasons and has quietly kept up that production since moving to Washington this year. Wiegmann and Hochstein will be tasked with blocking Haynesworth most of the game. Do not take Washington’s defense lightly — they boast the #1 pass defense in the NFL, allowing a league-low 159.9 passing yards per game.
