Brandon Marshall’s Trial Underway in Atlanta

Brandon Marshall isn’t in Denver, nor is he on a plane to San Francisco with the rest of the team. He’s in Georgia, appearing in court for a March 2008 incident. Depending on the results of this week’s hearing, which is expected to conclude Friday, Marshall could face further punishment and/or suspension from the league office.

As PFT points out, Marshall has a piece of evidence that will make it difficult for the jury to convict him beyond a reasonable doubt. The NFL received a letter from his alleged victim, ex-girlfriend Rasheedah Watley, which states Marshall’s innocence:

My name is Rasheedah Watley, I am the ex girlfriend of Brandon Marshall. I read in the newspapers that he is in trouble with the league because of me. I will let you know that he never hurt me or hit me, I was pressured by my family to make up certain things [to] get money. I was told to say that Brandon hit me and hurt me so that I could get him to pay to keep me quiet. I want you to know he never did.

This case is obviously going to be more complicated than this, several times over, so I won’t comment further about what the jury should or shouldn’t do. But now all we can do as Broncos fans is wait, again, and hold our collective breath.

    Well, he was wearing a Broncos shirt yesterday when he watched his old college team practice. If he really wanted out of Denver, and this whole hoopla wasn’t just about a contract extension, there is no way in hell he’s wearing a Broncos shirt. He’d wear whatever his normal clothing is.
    That right there is a fantastic sign, and I have a feeling him and McDaniels smoothed things over, and he’s all on board again. Remember, before his wanting a new contract, he was all about McDaniels and his offense.

    I hope he gets off, even though I dont condone hitting woman even if they’ve attempted to sucker punch you or steal your blackberry. I think she realized that he didnt want to be with her anymore, and she felt she had to cash in now. Sad really, I hope her parents aren’t in on it.

    If I’m a father and my daughters get her ass kicked, I’m not proposing or agreeing with her typing up a letter to get paid and keep quiet.

    i never saw that letter! didnt hear that one ESPN! >( but i saw the story with her and her parents talking about him should not be allowed to play in the NFL! gosh wow man he does have problems but if that letters true it makes the whole story totally diff man this is all messed up dude i just hope he gets back on track and scores many more TD’s 4 Denver

    I’ve never seen that letter either. I’d heard about the extortion letters but not the letter of innocence.

    Yea i heard about it but i think Marshalls attorney probably didnt want anybody to no so they could use it in court effectively

    Man, Marshall’s last witness was a therapist that helped both Marshall and his Ex and he was saying that the Ex was always yelling and screaming and being hostile while Marshall was angry with her but he was calm cool and collected. It’ll be interested to see how this all plays out.
