Knowshon Moreno isn’t in Denver, or even the Western United States for that matter.

He’s in Georgia, continuing to workout while, from training camp, he continues to holdout. The Broncos haven’t had a draft pick hold out this long, let alone a first round draft pick, in 12 years.

The 12th overall pick in the 2009 Draft is part of a logjam of players around San Francisco’s Michael Crabtree, taken 10th overall, whose agent is trying to disrupt the slotted rookie wage system and get top five money for the wide receiver.

Note to Crabtree’s agent: Your job means you serve your client, not yourself. End this circus and do it.

Luckily, Moreno and his agent are dislodging themselves from the logjam and working diligently with the Broncos on a deal, the Denver Post reports. The next day or two should yield real, rookie-rearing results.

“We’re working into the wee hours of the morning,” Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. “Hopefully, it will be done soon.”

Because Knowshon is in Georgia, even if he signs today, it would be impossible for him to participate in this evening’s INVESCO super-practice. And so the Broncos, and the fans, must continue to wait. Hey Knowshon: I’m sure Robert Ayers can attest that getting into camp as soon as possible is truly the best thing for you heading into your rookie season. Get in here and get it done.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

This is so dumb. Money does some strange things to people. Especially when your agent is telling you what to do. Get er done and get you ass to camp.

  • Roy

    I agree, this is absurd.

  • Dean

Yeah, I can’t believe he’s trying to make as much money as possible. What is his agent thinking? If he really cared for this team he would play for free.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

    Dear Crabtree,

    You’re an ass.

    Dear Moreno,

    Get to camp.

  • Drew

    #3 Dean,

Are you serious? I agree that Knowshon is making a mistake holding out so long, but do you really think he cares about the team at this point? He’s a rookie in the NFL looking to get paid and get paid guaranteed money. The rookie signing system is a joke and is part of the problem here, but have you been living under a rock for the last few years? How many players in pro sports actually put team first? Maybe 1 or 2 players do in all of pro sports, but otherwise it’s everyone out for himself. “Show me the money!” is the common refrain. Agents are also to blame since they work on commission.

  • DHB

Dean- That sounds good, but these are professional athletes, they get paid to play. That is why they worked as hard as they have to this point. The spending is a problem, but they should still get paid.

Crabtree… I know how you feel man! I should have won Powerball the other day. I mean I was only two numbers off! So I have some lawyers holding up as many lives as possible to get me my money. After all, why would I let reality get in the way of my payday?

There is something seriously wrong in any sport when agents are manipulating the entire game for a few extra bucks in their own pocket. I think both sides would really benefit in the next CBA if the the power and income of agents was severely limited.

  • Pat

It has been reported that Crabtree may re-enter the draft in 2010 if he doesnt get the money he wants. What an idiot

  • Thomas

Pat where did you find that out? That would be pretty absurd if true.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

    Pat-
Can you even do that? And can you post the link to wherever you heard that info? Thanks!

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe
  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

    And Kyle,

What would happen to the 49’s if Crabtree decided to re-enter next years draft? Would they have two first round picks? Or? I have never heard of this.

  • Pat

Crabtree could technically do that because he is not under contract

  • http://broncomadness.com Garrett Barnes

Joe, they already have two first round picks from the Panthers so I’m not sure if they even want 3 first round picks because of salary cap issues. Either way, it would be a ridiculous and this is the most hollow of threats. Who is going to draft him higher than #10 after this?

Truthfully, I don’t even think that Crabtree wants to be a 49er and he is thinking that if he asks for enough money he won’t have to. Just my two cents worth.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Joe – I believe the 49ers lose the draft pick. The draft is a selection process where you own the rights to a player for one year.

Crabtree would kill his value if he did this. Would you want the Broncos to risk a first rounder next year on this guy? Would any team? This is all bluff, and sooner or later, Crabtree will come around. He has to.

  • adam

Bo Jackson did it, and went from a 1 to a 7.

  • Jack

*cries for the people who couldn’t tell Dean was being sarcastic*

Why does Moreno owe the Broncos any loyalty at this point? Think about this for a second: If you were a College Football player who had been drafted by a team other than the Broncos- say maybe the Bills- would you be willing to take less money than you were worth? Loyalty to a team comes from being a part of them, and gaining respect for the fans, coaches, FO, and the players you play with.

Obviously holding out is risky because you don’t necessarily get much more money and missing camp can slow your progress as a player, potentially costing you money down the line.

  • jvill

Guys, Dean was being sarcastic. I’d imagine in response to this:

“Note to Crabtree’s agent: Your job means you serve your client, not yourself. End this circus and do it. ”

Serving the client to these guys means getting the most cash…

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

But I strongly believe Eugene Parker is doing a huge disservice to Michael Crabtree by trying to make headlines for himself.

This isn’t about his client, it’s about him.

  • Stav

Crabby is going to have a long wait if he thinks he’s going to get top 5 money. He has foot surgery, no one has seen him run, but they know he’s got hands, so he drops to 10. Guess what, sign your slotted contract, play your ass off, stay out of trouble, and then you’ll get what the big contract. I think I’m not going to go to work for the next two weeks until they pay me double, oh wait, they’ll fire my ass. Some one should put a foot up the kid’s ass and make him understand how lucky he is.

  • kerry

im glad we spent our top pick on such a team player. its great to know we have a RB who doesnt care about money at all and is all about the team. so hard to find such standup rookies these days.

  • http://bandit Dan Myers

@Kerry..for once I agree with you. Why can’t Knowshon fire his agent and get to camp?

  • DHB

Sorry Dean. Some people use sarcasm in these posts so much, to portray a very negative point of view that it’s hard to see the realistic POV through genuine sarcasm.

Wow, I have know idea what I just sai, but as long as I’m post #21, I think we’ll all be fine.

  • DHB

    damn

  • IraqNavyCMC

It is a shame that someone with his talent and explosiveness does not get the big picture. Get to camp play a few years then get the REALLY BIG money…but then again our running backs don’t have the greatest health record!

  • MileHigh55

This is why the NFL needs to have a Rookie Salary Cap just like the NBA. Screw the agents that mess this all up for the teams and the players.
Veteran players want a Rookie Salary Cap and I can see why. Crabtree and his agent are the prime example of thinking you are worth more than you are,
Besides Crabtree’s talent in the NFL isn’t worth anything untell he proves himself in the league first.
Rookie Salary Cap is the way to go to get the NFL pay back in line .

  • ryan

I really think it is silly logic to think this is all tied to Crabtree. If Knowshon really wants to sign just look at Orakpo’s deal right behind him and adjust accordingly.

This is not on Crabtree, this is on Knowshon for not telling his agent to just get him 12th pick money and be done with it. The market has already determined by most 1st round picks that they are getting a 10-15% bump from that slot last year. And given that last years 12th pick is on a roster this is not a hard one to figure out.

    Get it together Knowshon.

  • LTC Pain

I agree with ryan. Despite Parker being an idiot, Crabtree being stupid for listening to him and the Raiders over-paying Heyward Bay the reason Knowshon isn’t isn’t in camp is because he chooses not to be. If I were him I’d be thinking about firing his agent and hiring one that will get him in camp. Missing camp only hurts the player, not the agent.

  • http://none Kevin

    Kyle,
Thank you for your insight, I was just saying the samething to a friend. This problem is agent driven not player driven. The worst part is that in a city that is looking for a little bit of shinning light Knowshon could be the next Terrel Davis and his agent is holding him back from that. maybe next year rookies can get a 30% increase while vets like champ bailey who are proven can wind out their careers with a 10% increase on a crappy team. That not only is an insult to vetrans but its an insult to fans who can barley manage to pay for tickets.

  • Aimee

Man, if Knowshon is still in Georgia I wish he would just stay here and play for the Dawgs.

  • kerry

    Dan:

he wont fire his agent because all Moreno cares about at this point is money. thats it. Knowshon has no loyalty to this team UNTIL he gets a contract he doesnt deserve whatsoever. its absurd. if Goodell wasnt SO concerned over the image of the league and punishing players who infringe on that image, then he might pull his head out of his ass long enough to institute a rookie salary cap. a slotted set system for each pick. but that would be the smart thing to do so it likely will never happen.

i dont give a rats ass if all of this is tied to Crabtree or not. if Moreno TRUELY wanted to be here and TRUELY wanted to be a Bronco he would take the contract given to him, which would be a bit more then what Orakpo got, and he would be in camp learning the playbook. but again that would be the smart thing so that likely wont happen.

but on a funny note, Vince Young stood up and Proclaimed he would be the next black QB to win and SB and that he was going to the Hall Of Fame. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

  • Dean

Wow guys, I wasn’t being sarcastic. Professional football is a business and have no problem with Moreno holding out. The average nfl career is very short and there are no guarentees. Look Boss Bailey was playing with his brother last year to now the manager of a trucking company. We are fans they are employees…With agents, family, taxes, I’m sure the 20 mil can turn into half that real quick. We all would love to make what they do, but no one is paying to see us or buy our jersey’s.

  • Dean

    *was being sarcastic*

  • Pete

you beat me to it Pat. I was gonna post that same link. Ask Maurice Clarette how sitting out a year worked for him! Crabtree is a MORON, and there is no way that he is taken before the 3rd round next year if he enters the 2010 draft. With how this kid is acting, he’ll be lucky to not be another Charles Rodgers. He officially has “BUST” written all over him.

  • sickandtired

    Kerry, Young actually said that???

I hope that dude’s on meds.

  • mr. ne

lol knowshon’s head if cut off!?
