If you haven’t already seen, PFT posted an article about DT Ronald Fields being a bargain player. Gregg Rosenthal titled the article “Broncos may have found a bargain in Fields.

Fields doesn’t have a lot of starting experience, but knows defensive coordinator Mike Nolan’s scheme from his days in San Francisco.

He has the requisite size for the position (6’2″, 321 pounds) and is known as a strong player who can hold the line of scrimmage.

It’s almost strange to hear a compliment coming from the defensive side of the ball. The Broncos appear to have gotten good value from their acquisition Fields, but we won’t know for sure until everyone puts on the pads. It’ll be one of the more interesting competitions at training camp.

With the conversatin of bargins, does anyone know what the salary cap looks like for this team? I know they ranked towards the bottom 25th maybe, at the beginning of the off season.

Well thats good but i was reading a post about the supplemental draft and it seems like there is only really 1 guy coming out a defensive end named jeremy jarmon weighs soming like 6-3 278 at his work out but they said he plays about 6 pounds heavier and he ran a 4.79… what i heard he could go anywhere from 2nd to 5th round i think he would be worth a 3rd seems big enough to man an end spot

Hey Joe & Kerry just wondering how you you two “optimistc” fans are taking this news. There is still plenty of time to jump ship and fallow your boy to the windy city.

  • Jamie

Does anyone have any news on this wide receiver McKinley from South Carolina? I heard he was supposed to be a stud.

We could use a real diamond in the rough on D.

  • flbronc

pft is just a bunch of toting the line kool aid drinkers.

  • flbronc

fan from spain- my daughter walked in while i was reading this, and her first reaciton was ‘that guy looks mean’. i guess that is what you want in a dt.

I have always liked Gregg Rosenthal and he seems to “get it”.

Some good news on the D is always nice. There isn’t much of it.

what news?? Fields is a bargain player. so what? being a bargain player means getting a player for cheap. Fields was a joke in San Fran and if he was SO good then other teams would have been clamoring for his services. im talking big time deals. but that didnt happen because the guy is a bum. ill bet none of you even heard of Ron Fields before he got here. but now he is a diamond in the rough?? come on. PFFTTTT. if Ryan Leaf signed here would he SUDDENLY be a great player? NO! well at least not according to me. ANYONE this team has signed is a great player according to most here.

looks like Cassel WONT be the QB here next year:

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/07/14/chiefs-ink-cassel-to-long-term-deal/

im sure that really upsets MCDaniels because he is so in love with Cassel.

  • Andpark

Dude Cassel 6 year 60 mil! Kid just got paid. I love this, Cassel will not be any better than Thigpin in KC and all that money just drains that organization. That is great news.

Cassel was successful because of……wait for it………… McD’s system! Having the Pats set of WR’s in the league didn’t hurt but this sounds a lot like the Broncos this year. Don’t let me down Orton.

This is such a relief, I did not want Cassel next year.

  • broncoNM

How dare you mention that orton might be ok in this system…Dont you know that this team is doomed.

I completely agree that cassel will be a bust in KC… he did benefit greatly from McD’s system. Take a look at some of cassel highlights from last year. Orton can make the majority of these throws. As you know welker and moss get alot of YAC in some of these highlights. I dont see why royal and marshall cant have the same success. I also see alot of dump passes that will relieve alot of pressure and move the sticks for orton and the O.

@Mr. East, good link. Gregg Rosenthal is a known sports journalist. He is not a talking head. Ron Fields stats are average. He rotated with Sopoaga, who is way above average. I LOVE DL AVERAGE FOR THE START OF 2009.
    @Kerry (our troll),
Can you even name any NT’s? How about those that were FA? Nope did not think so. Yes Albert can play NT but is a beast at DT.

  • kerry

actually Dan ive named quite a few NT’s over the past months that i would have liked this team to have. and Ron Fields isnt one of them. this guy is a benchwarmer at best and hasnt done anything in this league. see unlike you i do research and check out players stats instead of just blind following and proclaiming every single move this team makes is a great one.

  • Carl

To the Rookies and the Vets, I am praying that you guys have a great season much love! The new additions to the team are good ones. Chemistry is everything. That 3 /4 defense would be even more effective with a NT like Jermyah Graves (USC/ASU undrafted free agent). Josh MCd when you bringing this kid officially on board? Inquiring minds want to know. He is a great fit. Anyway good season guys, and coaching staff, we fans will be supporting you to the fullest!
