Have a case of the Bronco Blues?
Does the possibility of losing two young Pro Bowlers in one off-season have you down in the dumps?

Broncos Nation, do yourself a favor and listen to this interview with Champ Bailey. Feel better knowing that we still have this man. A consummate professional. A leader on the field and in the locker room. Our young players have to look no further. The attitude and approach that Champ has taken with the changes the team is going through is superb, and simple when you stop and think about it.

After hearing the news of Brandon wanting a trade, like most of you, I felt sick, vomiting a little in my mouth. I felt lost. Disoriented, like the first time you play laser tag and don’t really know what’s going on, but pretend you do as to avoid humiliation. I needed a friend, or a big bowl of chicken soup with some saltines. Champ Bailey can be that friend. Champ Bailey can be those saltines.

Listen. Warm yourself up. Feel a little bit better Bronco Nation, just a little bit.

  • (stuck in) raiderland

Why do my saltines keep pulling their hamstrings?

  • (stuck in) raiderland

    Okay, sorry for that.
But I do appreciate the post: as a collective fan nation, we (excepting Kerry, who I assume is about to post another classic angry rant) all need to take a breath and realize this might all turn out okay. And yes, we should be extremely pleased to have the incredible pro Mr. Bailey.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

LOL, BroncoTalk now has a tag called “laser tag.” 1337

  • J. Kenneth K.

    Kyle,
Thought you would appreciate the tag.
Also, speaking of Kyle, I wanted to add this as a side note.
Orton also gave an interview which you can find here: http://www.fm1043thefan.com/channels/audioOnDemand/Story.aspx?ID=1104239
It didn’t leave me as fuzzy as the Champ one did.

  • Andpark

No need for the creepy clown man, no need at all.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

I wonder how one chooses to be a clown as a professional career? Im not trying to put down their profession, I just want to know the process. I’m imagining the scenario being something like a young man finishes his last final in college heads out to the local bar to celebrate his freedom from school and screams out to his buddies “DUDE! I’m gonna be a CLOWN”

  • Tom9798

    Andpark . . . that creepy clown man is Pat Bowlen . . . be kind . . . T

  • TD30isMVP

Good, I am not the only one who thought that looked like Bowlen with a shaved head…would explain some of the recent decisions. Champ is a class act, he is also 30 and making a ton of money of course he isn’t going to be against the new regime.

  • J. Kenneth K.

TD, yes on Champ and his money, he states that in the interview. But, even his take on Brandon, his understanding of Brandon having to do what’s best for him. It just seems like Champ has a great overall understanding of how to be a good football player and a good teammate.

I point to Bill Simmons once again.
    http://sports.espn.go.com/espnradio/podcast/archive?id=2864045
the 6/18 podcast with Dan Lebatard is a great overall listen. If you don’t have the time, go to minute 27, a good 3-4 min section that will make sense to us and the drama we’re involved in.

  • postalmoose

Fellas I have said this before but we are transitioning from one type of coach to a totally different coaching style. Some players can’t handle that. Shannie coddled his stars no matter what. It took alot for him to bail on star guys. JoshMAc isn’t into coddling guys he wants guys to be teammates not special. I personally can dig that. Jay and Brandon can’t so let them go and leets get on with what we have. I don’t know why but I trust what coach JoscMac is doing and trying to build here! Champ Bailey is the kind of guy you want here as he wants to win and understands what being unselfish is all about. More players like him or Rod Smith and such is what will bring titles back tot he Broncos!

  • jcampb72

I am losing my faith, someone slap me.

  • Anthony33

Too bad the only thing making the news is from Marshall and Cutler.

A little inside information. The players love McD and buy-in to the team concept big time. The locker room is better than ever. Moreno is special. Williams, Ayers and Woodyard are going to reak havoc. Yes, they are worried about losing another ‘star’ player.

Can’t wait for all this Marshall drama to end one way or the other, the pre-season gets underway so we can start talking football.

I love what McD is doing. The analysts think he’s crazy for giving up the pro bowl talent, but that talent made the Pro-Bowl roster on conditions that favored passing the ball in desperation.

They are going to be surprised when Denver actually comes out gunning and wins in a totally different way, without the distractions of Diva egos. It is going to be amazing to watch this offense with players making plays all over the field. First Moreno will break one big, then Buckhalter will slice around the edge folwed by a pass to Hillis as he breaks tackles for 20 yards! Then a throw to Eddie Royal, then Stokely, and Gaffney and Lloyd, and the new rookie, what’s his name, you’ll soon know it by heart!

And the defense is going to get after it and play smash-mouth attack style defense. No corners lined up at ten yards the whole game. Ayers is going to light things up, and Woodyard will fly around with DJ holding everyone together and of course Champ and Dawk on the back end keepin it tight.

What the so-called experts don’t talk about as they lament the loss of our divas, is that new stars will emerge out of a new crop dedicated to playing as a team. The Brocos future looks bright indeed. I even bought NFL ticket and Direct TV after not having cable of any kind for 20 years. No more sports bar for me, I want to DVR every game and watch them and study our new team down to the details. Exciting stuff ahead, just ignore the critics for now!

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

Solomon Wilcots is retarded. It’s easy to pick and choose plays and praise and slam players, totally useless. At least he mentioned Mike Nolan, great job about mentioning the offensive line talent thought… not really. If he thinks Denver will go from 8 wins to 5 without Brandon Marshall then he is high. If Marshall leaves it’s undetermined what Denver will get in compensation. It’s obvious he’s not drinking the kool-aid but he’s sure smoking the crack pipe.

  • kerry

    East:

im sure of Orton had even half the tools Cutler has then Wilcots would have brought them up and used them in comparison. but why is Wilcots retarded? because he didnt lavish praise on Kyle Orton?? if Orton was deserving of praise then he would in fact be praised for being a good QB. he isnt so he wont be praised. Denver may go from 8-5 wins with Marshall. Wilcots isnt smoking the crack. he has played in the league and gets paid to do analysis on football teams. and he isnt the only one saying these things. MANY analysts have said the same things.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

    Roshon2411

Don’t shoot the messenger. You guys have been bitching for broncos news and when I found something I shared it. I agree with east. That guy has his heard so far up his own ass that he wears himself as a hat. I hate the media for that reason right there. Pure opinion.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

    Kerry

You’re missing the point again. It’s the fact that he has 3 YEARS of footage to pick from and he finds two plays of cutler making completions and orton throwing picks. It’s stupid. I know orton is no cutty but he still has some talent. Denver WILL NOT throw nearly as much as they did. That’s why Orton will work. I like the one thing that he said. QBs don’t win games… the team does.

  • roshon2411

    T-Money,

Relax, i actually agree with Soloman’s analysis. I welcome any new news on this site, for the same reason i posted the links below your comment. I didn’t bitch at you in any way. I just said ouch because Soloman is not a big fan of the 2009 Broncos as our many prognosticators out there, and I found it ammusing that the title of this article is a little bowl of sunshine and Soloman just shit in it…

  • kerry

    T-money:

Wilcots was referring to the fact that the lack of a team is why Cutler has more losses then wins. Orton had a more complete team with a 1,200 yard rusher, and the number 2 run defense in football, yet he held them back with his inaccuracy, poor decision making and inability to extend the play. Orton is more of a “play not to lose QB VS a play to win QB” Orton will throw just enough times to not turn it over, but he sure as hell wont be able to win a game in a shootout.

  • Dean

I find it amusing that people like Kelly think this team is better off because they lost one diva in Cutler and possibly another in Marshall. Most teams that win championships, win b/c of their divas. Elway was a diva. The whole 1985 Bears team. Ray Lewis, Tom Brady, Brett Farve, Tiki Barber, Strahan, Plax. Just get them to peform on the field and who or what they are doesn’t matter.

  • jcampb72

McD came from the patriots. They didn’t need divas to win. Randy Moss is the closest thing to it and I don’t ever here anything negative from the guy. 8 more days!

  • craig

Bums can win SB’s at QB(Dilfer, McMahon). But you better have a team of studs at every other postion.

East, do you really think Orton has that with this team? He might have better weapons on offense than he did in Chicago, but he’s doesn’t have nearly the defense. Remember this team gave up 28+ pts per game. Only the Rams and Lions gave up more. Do you remember how those teams did?

  • Dean

    jcampb72,

You don’t think Tom Brady’s a diva? Deion Branch? He only pulled the same move as BM and request a trade. Randy Moss, Corey Dillion? The reason you don’t hear anything negative is because they’re winning. Winning cures all

  • broncobobmeridian

anyone know when the practices are open to the public?

  • http://www.kellyleephipps.com Kelly in Carolina

Okay, Divas can win championships, I’ll give you that. But it didn’t seem like they wanted to be on THIS team anymore, so why not deal them and build a new generation of talent. There’s a lot of shaking things up in the air for governments, for people, and yes for football teams. Uranus is opposing Saturn in the heavens just like in ’64-’65 (yes, I’m an astrologer), and things are shifting again in a revolution against the old guard. So, being that this is the vibe on earth right now, the most revolutionary action and openess to change is going to have the universe on its side. Which team has made the most off-season shake-ups in the NFL? Our team! So we’ll be good to go and hopefully don’t have to use this season to find our rhythm. I hope we use the first three easier games to do that and then explode into the heavy schedule and pull off some stunning victories. It’s going to be exciting actually seeing who does emerge in place of Marshall and Cutler, but especially leaders on the defense. We are going to be competitive!

  • robtink242

Kerry is on it lets face it we screw at QB. let’s draft a new one

  • broncoNM

T-Money Thanks for the link…Wilcots doesnt bring much to the table. He blurts out general knowledge. We all know that cutler is a better athlete and has better arm strength than orton. I dont think that anyone would argue that. Orton is not going to boot leg and throw the ball 40 yds across the field. Wilcots and most other analysts are being vague because its too early… so they just keep comparing cutler and orton. I agree with wilcots when he states that orton cant rely on arm strength and will have to “dink and dunk” the ball and that royal should have a big role but i dont think we all need to watch NFLTA to figure that out. Orton is not cutler but he can still win. Instead of launching the ball into double coverage orton will have to check down and find the open man. Thanks to wilcots we all know that orton should avoid throwing off his back foot… thank god he is here to let us know that. It would have been nice if he would have went into a little depth about how the old (shanny) scheme will differ from the new (McD) scheme or go into a little detail about us switching to the 3-4 or how some players roles will probably change a bit. We are switching systems on both sides of the ball why didnt he talk about any players or their roles on the team besides orton and marshall.

  • Katch22

I think it’s funny how all Cutlers highlights were spot on and did not once show how he tried to force the ball to Bmarsh every other throw. I like Orton, he reminds me of Plummer. Not pretty but was a winner. I can’t wait untill the season starts and all the experts and fair weather fans start changing their tunes.

  • robtink242

Jake Plummer was a extreme gifted QB and i’m not saying that Orton doesnt have talent he just isnt Plummer….Jake had more speed, a better arm and he played with a lot more confidence than Orton…. Maybe now that Orton has a HC that believes in him he’ll show more confidence on the field….But like someone said in a previous post Orton “plays not to lose QB VS a playing to win QB”….. Meaning he does have the balls to make the high risk high reward throws cause he doesnt want to get bench…..But in the spirit of fairness lets give Orton a clear slate and se what he does with this team.

  • postalmoose

Great article and as a Bronco fan I totally agree but would like to add one thing that the article touched on. The Broncos are changing a culture that had gone bad under Mike Shanahan. Shannie is a great coach but some of his personnel skills were sorely lacking and two Super Bowls in his first four years here gave him a free pass for another ten mediocre years. I love Shanahan but now that his era is over I see how blind I was to the obvious. I had forgotten that in college and even high school he was the same as he is now. Shanahan also loved to coddle his stars and Jay Cutler was one of those privilged. Bowlen saw that his own loyalty was clouding his judgement and when he cleared the fog he knew a changw was in order. Now I also believe Josh McDaniels was hired precisely because of his philosophy on personnel. Which is that no one gets coddled and that character is of the utmost importance. So know in the pre season we are seeing the upheavel this is causing with the coddled like Cutler and the troubles like Marshall. Here in Denver alot of fans have already given up on the Broncos. Not me I beleive in where Bowlen Xanders and McDaniels are headed. I think the franchise will be better off in the long run and I am being patient and holding the faith.
