Peyton Manning, Kerry Collins and Brandon Marshall during Pro Bowl Week in Hawaii last February.

Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall was a no-show this morning to the mandatory off-season workouts.

Although Marshall would not have been able to participate in the workouts, he is required to rehabilitate with Bronco trainers.

Marshall has expressed discontent with the training staff in Denver, after they had misdiagnosed the severity of his injury.

Denver’s young receiver is in the city however and is scheduled to meet with Broncos owner Pat Bowlen this afternoon. Head coach Josh McDaniels is expected to comment on Marshall following practice.

We will keep you posted Nation as the story continues.

  • McCaffrey4Life

Marshall is a joke, I am so sick of the state of the Broncos right now. Trade him to whoever for a second round pick and lets annouce to the world that we are completely rebuilding this team from scratch.
While we are at it, lets get rid of Bailey, Williams and Clady too. They aren’t McD’s guys so who knows?

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

It’s probably nothing. I would be more concerned if he was still in Orlando. The I seriously hope this is not going to be a contract thing but it’s starting to look that way.

  • (stuck in) raiderland

I heard Marshall was hoping Real Madrid would buy his rights for $132 million. He figures futbol is football, as long as he gets his cash.

  • Pete

Make no mistake about it, this is about money. He may say it’s about his injury, but it’s about money. The good news is that he’s in Denver, and will speak to both Bowlin and McDaniels after practice. I’m sure at that point, he’ll tell them that he’s holding out until he get’s a contract. I don’t ever agree with holding out, especially when you have more question marks surrounding you than you have answers, but I think we should pay the man. Just make sure to have lots of conduct clauses in his contract, and you should be fine. He’s worth top money, so pay him and he’ll be happy.

  • (stuck in) raiderland

That’s right, I made a soccer pun. And I’m not ashamed, no matter how much I should be.

  • Roy

I am amused by his discontent. He wants a new contract, but doesn’t want to attend practice? Wow, go team. He says the team misdiagnosed his injury? He sure wasn’t complaining about it while dropping passes at the probowl. Doesn’t he realive that because next year is uncapped, he will still be under conctact? Maybe he should do some lobbying for a pay raise with actions that prove he, you know, deserves it. Not by complaining and keeping his distance.

  • Roy

raiderland- if he was going to play futbol, hopefully it would not be at goalie. Those guys need to be able to hang onto the ball.

    GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!

  • merc22

He will get a deal, just like doom and kuper

  • Andpark

Yikes man, I am really worried. If I know a thing about McD is that he does not put up with this stuff. McD will tell you to make sure the door doesn’t hit you in the ass on the way out. I really hope this is nothing.

I think Marshall could be the best WR in the league, at least a part the nastiest duo in the NFL with Royal. This off season is just too much to handle.

  • mr. me

this stinks, i also heard the broncos r thinking about adds on practice jerseys? anybody know ’bout that? advertizing on NFL jerseys is a BIG NO!! NO! NO! NO!

keep that junk out of football! thats one of the things that make s the NFL so great its just football – no political, no advertising, just football can we PLEASE keep it that way

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

I don’t want to make a horrible allegation, but I’m going to go ahead. Under Shanahan there were a lot of mis-diagnosis… Remember Javon Walker? Or even Al Wilson, they had him playing with an injury that ended his career eventually.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

    Mr. Me –

That is true, there are about ten teams that are allowing ads on their practice jerseys. The Broncos are one of them. Nascar, here we come. Hey, if it means that teams will be laying off less good people in their front offices, then I am all for it.

  • kerry

of course Marshall wants more money now. he knows his numbers are severely gonna drop because of a lousy QB. so he wants to get paid now instead of playing this year and going after the big contract next year. can you blame him. and i wouldnt put it past him that he didnt wanna show up because McDaniels is running the team into the ground.

  • Jon K.

ian what do u think of the jersey stuff? i think its sick and a discrace to de NFL

  • Joe H.

Of course Kerry would have to turn this story about the QB’s. It’s not a fact that his stats are going to drop because of the QB’s,it might be your opinion!! And you know what they say about opinions, well yours always definately stinks up the place!!!! Take your mancrush with Cutler and go be a Bears fan already!!! Can you ever say anything positive about the Broncos?

  • McCaffrey4Life

Kerry has a valid point. With poor QB play (which is completely fair to prepare for) stats will go down for WR’s. Even if McD throws as much as they did in NE, with so many spread formations balls will be distributed to more receivers than last year.
I do disagree with not blaming him though. Marshall is a prick and is jumping shit because he realizes how bad things have gotten.

  • McCaffrey4Life

As far as sponsors for the practice jerseys. Anyone who thinks that this should/isn’t going to happen….wake up. The NFL is a business just like every other sport. Just because there is no advertisement on teams jerseys, but there are tons 5 feet from the field and all over the stadium doesn’t make the NFL any better. The NFL isn’t more pure because there isn’t a “Tide” patch on a sleeve or a “Toyota” logo on the back of a jersey. Advertising on game day jerseys is just a matter of time. Who seriously gives a shit about what our practice jerseys say.

  • (stuck in) raiderland

Wow, way to get yourself abused, Kerry.
Jon K. et al– I have to say, not to keep making soccer references here, that the sponsored jersey thing sounds terrible but I strongly doubt it’ll make a difference to anyone once it happens. It’s weird, but sponsored jerseys are so ubiquitous in soccer that it almost stops being advertising, really. I don’t know why companies really WANT to pay for that, but if enough of them do it, you actually don’t really notice. Hell, Man U’s players are still running around with a big “AIG” plastered on their chests and, weird as it sounds given that the company is now the bogeyman of the economic apocalypse, you barely pay any attention to it at all. Like I said, I agree it sounds terrible, but in the end I think it winds up being no big deal.

  • DC

It is a bad year for the 06 boys thats for sure. If he’s unhappy so be it. I’m sick of disgruntled players. Trade him. I love BMarsh, but I think the man can be patient and get paid when he deserves it. Right now the cards aren’t on his side, and with his legal problems looks like their still Drama in D-Town. No more Drama!!!

  • roshon2411

He’ll be gone here shortly, and then another jersey will have to be burned. Hey at least the signed Jabar Gaffney he’s good for 4o rec and 400 yards. Plus i think Ashley Lelie is still available.

  • roshon2411

Also I just read this… “58 receivers made more than $2.2 million in salary and bonuses last season.”

I’d be holding out too. Dudes a top 10 receiver/top 25 including the arrest and the guy makes David Kircus money.

  • DC

Whose fault is that? He would have had his contract by now if he wasn’t such a F up.

  • Roy

It is not a hard concept: show up to work, keep your ass out of handcuffs, get paid.

East- I admit that there were an abnormally large amount of players under Shanny that seemed to be “misdiagnosed”. After a while you have to start wondering…

There is another side to this too though. What if the players are trying to play through to save ego? Look at the big stink that is being made about Henderson down in Jacksonville. He is refusing to practice because he has what he calls a grade 2 shoulder strain. Del Rio called it a “minor bruise of sorts.” When it comes to their star athletes, I think many coaches try to push them beyond their physical limit.

  • roshon2411

I would say 206 rec, 2,590 yrds the last two seasons would be considered showing up to work. Either pay the man or trade him, but don’t piss him off and let him get away for free.

  • TD30isMVP

I have to say I noticed alot of players over the years that were under the impression the injury was less serious than it really was, and Shanny would sign guys that failed physicals for other teams. These guys all play dinged up but it is crap that they are not told the extent of their injuries.

  • sam

Tired of this always the drama queen dump him now get something for him.

  • Vince_Marine

I agree, trade him now before he goes and beats up his fiancee or ex-girlfriend again. I wouldn’t pay him a big contract until he showed me he could stay out of trouble for a least a year. Remember, one more strike and he is gone anyway. I seriously would start looking to get Bolden now!!!

  • Pete

According to the DP, he packed up 3 boxes as he left team headquarters at 3:15 today… this doesn’t sound very promising!

  • broncobobmeridian

Sometimes you got to wonder WTF goes through these players minds. BMarsh is another quality player, BUT, also a train wreck waiting to happen. If he was smart he should wait until he is 100% healthy, and, all of his pending legal issues are behind him. I think he is under paid, but, he also has a current contract that he needs to abide by.

  • broncobobmeridian

I hope his fiancee doesnt get beat up tonight. Knowing BMarsh, he left the meeting pissed and needs to hit something or someone. LOL

  • Roy

Roshon- You are right, that is showing up for work. Now he has to learn how to keep his butt out of handcuffs. All I am saying is that if you want more money don’t be the only player absent from most of the offseason activities. Maybe if he spent more time at the Broncos facility and teen center he would spend less time being booked into the police station.

  • Tom9798

    Sam . . . and Vince_Marine . . . . I couldn’t agree more . . . .

I like Brandon Marshall and I feel he has a great future in the NFL if he keeps his nose clean . . . . but I would like to see that we another team . . .

If we could trade for Bolden straight up . . . I think we would have the missing piece to complete the offense . . .

With an injured running game and a very poor defense . . . Cutler was forced to throw for over 4,500 yds. And BM was a favorite target . . .

    That won’t happen this year . . . and BM knows it . . . we will have a running game and a better defense . . .

If BM feels he could find something better . . . so be it . . .

Not showing up to practice with the team is a sure fired way of achieving the same exit pass Cutler was granted . . . .

It’s like my old choir director at Metropolitan State College would say to us . . . “If you’re not here . . . you’re not singing.”

  • robtink242

marshall is going no where. He’s in denver and he’s meeting with coach and owner. this matter will be resolved quickly. Marshall hill have big numbers as well. Everyone thought Derick Mason of the Ravens would of suffer due to there QB’s lack of experience but he had a solid season. Young or inexperience QB’s love big target and TE’s. Not to mention coverage will not be strong on him due to his QB. It’s just up to Orton to get the ball in his area.

Flashback how many good season Rod and Ed have whiles we pound the football. If BM suffers it’s on his QB. BM is certainly a talent so reward the man RESPECTIVELY.

  • CJ

It doesnt matter if Josh Mcdanials doesnt want to sign him! Chad Johnson tried the same thing and look what happened to his dumb ass. brandon marshall deserves it but that doesnt mean hes getting squat!

  • jcampb72

I wouldn’t be surprised to see BW go, but it won’t be until 2011. We could force him to stay at around 3 mill a year till we found a replacement. I’m starting to think Big Brother is running the operations backstage. WTF.

  • jcampb72

    BM

  • kerry

    hey Joe h:

when i see the Broncos do something positive, then ill comment on it. right now NOTHING positive is going on. its camp time, our number one receiver isnt there, Kyle Orton is getting competition from a guy who hasnt played in two years, D-line still sucks. so when preseason rolls around and i SEE positive things then ill talk about them.

and its not an opinion that a WR’s numbers will go down due to having a weaker QB, its a fact. did Randy Moss go for 20 plus receiving TD’s after Brady went down?? NO. and how many 1,000 yard receivers did the Bears have when Orton was QBing? yeah exactly.

  • roshon2411

    Roy,

In the words of Allen Iverson “Your talking about practice.” Besides BM’s hurt wouldn’t be running any drills anyhow.

I don’t see why everyone thinks he should just show up because he signed a contract. One the contract is not guarenteed, so the Broncos could release him at anytime. Besides if you were performing the best at your job, wouldn’t you want a raise/promotion and if you didn’t you probably be looking for another job.

But i’m sure Bowlen and McDaniels will find a way to trade this guy for a bunch of bums

Orton to Gaffney can’t wait! Denver’s office will be unstoppable.

  • Roy

    Roshon-
One of my coaches said it best when I was a kid “you practice like you play.” Even if we were injured or sore we were still there rooting on our teammates and building comroderie. There are a lot of new guys in that locker room, and he should be there building chemistry with them. As it stands now, they are getting used to one another. When someone else comes in, especially someone who is expected to play a big role, it completely changes the groups dynamic.

Orton still threw for almost 3000 yards last year. That is with his top two recievers being Hester and Olson. Not to mention that he had a pourus line. Hopefully, he should do better this year.

    kerry-
Using recieving touchdowns as a bench mark for success is absurd. Moss has only had one season where he went over 20 tds. His average is somewhere around 12.25. He had 11 last year. 20 touchdowns is so spectacular that only one other reciever has done it. Ever. That was Jerry Rice in ’87.
Thousand yard recievers doesn’t say much either. Drew Brees threw for over 5000 yds last season. 1000 yard recievers? Zero. Only Lance Moore came close with 928. Granted, Brees is a far superior QB to Orton. That said though, his line was far better, and so were his recievers.

  • http://bandit Dan Myers

How did we get back to the stupid QB issue. Kyle Orton will do just fine with this offense. YES even without Marshall. THANKS KERRY!!
BTW Kerry, you really do have to get over this..

I would love to see Brandon here but Coach McD has gotten the current players into the TEAM rythym and it looks good. Remember the spread runs smoothest when the WR’s are route runners, like Royal, Stokley, and Gaffney. Watch in passing drills and you can see when a route is executed right the rythym between QB and WR is beautiful to watch. No more of this ‘throw it up for grabs’.
Two rookies are excellent route runners with glue hands, McKinley and Swift. Hum I do not know about Chad Jackson.

  • http://mrherculesrockefeller.blogspot.com herc rock

Marshall’s an idiot and he’s not getting a new deal.

That said….Greek should have been fired ten years ago. The Donks medical staff is one of the worst in the league.

  • Estes2SD

He is a thug and if he does not change his attitude he doesnt belong within the organization. He would throw a “T.O” type temper tantrum when he did not get the ball last year, imagine what his childish behavior will be like this year. I would rather see 100 swing passes to Hillis than one deep ball to this fool.

  • kerry

we need to just dump this clown right now. Darnell Dockett wants a trade out of Arizona, and we need a NT. Arizona could have Marshall and then Trade Boldin to another team for a first round pick. if we are so loaded at WR, as some say we are, then Marshall wont be missed.

  • Roy

I love it. Trade Marshal so certain people on this site can decry the actions as even more “evidence” McD is destroying the franchise.

  • kerry

i think trading Marshall for the right defensive player would be a great move for the team.

  • ryan

ESPN is reporting that Josh has named Orton our starter… Should make for an interesting season.

  • http://mrherculesrockefeller.blogspot.com herc rock

Trading him now is not a bad idea. If you think Marshall’s going to re-up with us next year, you’re crazy.

  • milehighs

Brand0n Marshall gets his way and gets traded to the Bears. He will be back with jay Cutler and Mike Shannohan by next year.

  • http://broncomadness.com Garrett Barnes

    kerry,

I actually like the darnell dockett idea. i was high on him during free agency and if we could add him and maybe a mid rounder then it might actually work well.

  • kerry

yeah Garrett it would be great. it would be a smart move. which is why McDaniels probably wont do it.
