The Broncos have six draft choices on Sunday, all in the 4th round or later.  Here is their selection schedule (obviously, this is very susceptible to change):

There won’t be a live blog today, but you can use this post as an open forum for Day Two draft discussions.  We’ll be keeping this post on top, and have all of the picks posted for your comment as soon as possible as well.  Thanks, and go Broncos!

And just like that, the Broncos will be on the clock here in a few short minutes… at this point I really, really am hoping they add depth to the defensive line.

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

Hi kyle, Good job on the write ups yesterday. That live blog was a bit too manic for me even though I kept checking in. I think at one point it calmed down to about 200 posts per second.

I like Herman Johnson, Marcus Freeman and Terrance Taylor with any of these picks.

  • kerry

it has to be Terrence Taylor!! but knowing McDaniels, it will be a long snapper or punter. you know, guys we dont need

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Another DB! Of course! Why the frick not?!

Broncos select S David Bruton from Notre Dame 114th overall.

  • SanDiegoBronco55

    another safety!!!??? WTF?

  • Jk

    LOL raiders…

  • http://www.kellyleephipps.com Kelly in Carolina

Another Safety David Bruton out of Notre Dame…Josh is really lookin to build the D-backfield more than the front-7…I guess Moss and Crowder and Thomas are impressing him in camp!

  • coronad0

Another Safety … from Notre Dame!?!?!?!?

    Arghhhh!!!

  • kerry

wow. what did i say? another guy we didnt need. i guess we have some mammoth monster we picked up off the streets to play NT. what a fuktard

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

meh, he’s ok value. Why so many DBs? Well maybe Special Teams will be able to tackle now?

  • coronad0

All I know is Jason Phillips from TCU is still on the boards … We need ILB help … WTF McD … WTF.

  • SanDiegoBronco55

boy i sure hope so…but i agree, he must like what crowder moss and thomas are doin….but whatt about a NT??!!!! i guess nolan convince mcdaniels that he can be a starter….dang…i trust them, lets see what happens in a game before run McD out of town…

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

McDaniels was a secondary coach for NE before he took over the offense, right?

  • Justin

At this point I’m a bit envious of the patriots and wished McDaniels drafted like them (patrick chung, ron brace, darius butler, tyrone mckenzie)….sigh. I have no idea how Mayock thinks we are drafting needs to fill.

  • coronad0

    He was QB coach …

  • http://www.kellyleephipps.com Kelly in Carolina

McD is obviously trying to build a team that can run the ball down people’s throats. You don’t trade two 3rd round picks for a TE in the second round, especially when you already have a good blocking TE, unless you have a total strategy built around running the ball successfully out of a double tight end formation.

This could be very surprising. Everyone thinks that McD is a 4 WR set pass happy coach, and yet this draft shows us he is committed to building a solid run game. When we have a winning record and Moreno is stacking up 100 yards games and giving the defense a chance to rest, it might be better than having Ragi AND Jackson on a 3-4 line.

And unless Thomas can play the NT, we will probably be staying with more of a 4-3, but I like the idea of a hybrid defense. Those new DBs are going to excel under the tutelage of Champ and Dawkins. We’ll all be happy about those selections when Hill or Goodman gets burnt or injured and a solid player comes in off the bench and makes a couple of pics!

I know everyone likes to think of themselves as the expert, and that just because McD isn’t doing it the way you’d do it, give him a frickin break. If you were the head coach and everyone was calling for your head before you even played a preseason game, you’d just feel like screw those people, they don’t understand what I’m trying to implement here. So let’s at least, as loyal fans, give this guy a chance to show his stuff, and if he fails, well, then let’s hear the avalanche of slurs. Maybe then you can go get yourself a nice coaching job and move up the ranks and show your genius. Until then shut the hell up and let this guy build the team the way he sees fit to build it!

    Go Broncos!

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

Clemons, Fields, Parker, Thomas. And there was an interesting quote that slipped out from McD the other day about how pleased he was to have Carlton Powell coming back from injury.

My guess is, if the season starts now, Thomas Fields and Powell are your front three. With Ayres or Reid or Doom or Moss or Crowder putting their hand down on 3rd down.

  • SanDiegoBronco55

dude kelly- thank you, finally, that what i have been saying this whole time! DITTO

  • Justin

I have no qualm and will support the broncos despite their draft choices. I also don’t pretend to know more than people who job it is to watch college players. You can’t blame people for voicing concerns over some decisions that on the surface seem puzzling (although not as much as the raiders lol). I can hope that with a strong db core it may hark back to the days of atwater and smith safety tandem in run stopping ability.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

I’m keeping the open thread up top, while also posting on the players as they’re chosen. Feel free to discuss everything in both places.

Here’s the Burton post: Broncos Continue Drafting Secondary with S David Bruton in Fourth

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

If you have the NFL Network, they’re about to interview Knowshon Moreno… tune in quickly :)

  • http://www.kellyleephipps.com Kelly in Carolina

No problem! I’m a die hard Bronco fan! I played at CU Boulder when we won the national championship, I was a redshirt freshman back in 1990, and used to joke around with all those guys like Alfred Williams, Eric Biennemy, Darian Hagan, etc. I was a third string fullback, and I played D-line at Centaurus High School in Lafayette Co, made all-conference three years in a row, 2nd team all-state my senior year when I was triple teamed by two linemen and the fullback! Benched 340, weighed 250, ran a 4.5 40, and hated plying under Bill McCartney (religious fanaticism and football didn’t mix too well for me), but my point is I suffered through four Superbowl losses, and loved watching the Orange Crush and Elway, and event he Shannahan era with two long-deserved Superbowls, and I love the changes that are being made. Sometimes you just get in a rut and need to shake things up! And good lord, let’s get behind the new leader and at least give him a chance!

  • coronad0

I must say I loved to hear Knowshon say “WE” when ESPN asked him about the draft and about what picks are coming up.

He said “we’re getting solid on secondary, we’re making moves for the D, we’re going to score some points”. Not even 12 hours on the job and he’s a full time Bronco … love it!

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Yeah coronad0, they interviewed him on NFLN and he was all about “we”, all about “team,” and he just seems like a real humble guy with a blue collar work ethic. I love it.

The Broncos, barring a trade, will be picking again here in less than 10 minutes.

  • http://www.nfldrafthq.wordpress.com Antonino

Wow, just watched the Knowshon interview.

Great to see that Knowshon is as impressive as a human-being, as he is a football player. Very well spoken, and seems like a genuine kid. I think he will give our offense an identity and will provide our fanbase with some one to truly rally around. I miss the days of TD and CP, two backs I loved dearly. Lets go Knowshon!

  • RHINO

I’m impressed, well spoken young man. Let’s see what happens.

    Go Broncos!!!!!!

  • Matt

Knowshon will do great things for our team and him and Hillis in the backfield will be unstoppable.

*crossing fingers for front seven pick*

  • kerry

    probably another safety. or TE

  • kerry

a guard?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? what the FUK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! god i hate this guy!!!!

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

    Seth Olsen, OG, Iowa

  • http://www.kellyleephipps.com Kelly in Carolina

OG! Woo Hoo, maybe he can double as a center after Weigmann leaves!

  • http://www.kellyleephipps.com Kelly in Carolina

Not just a guard, a mountain of a man for our line 6’5″ 305lb! WoW! But then again I’m an optimist! I can see the good of any pick they select. Have faith in McD, at least until we actually lose and bomb a season! Otherwise go root for the Dolts, maybe you approve of their draft…

  • NathanH47

Meh, If we don’t take d-line and LB in 4 of our next 4 picks I may have a breakdown.

  • alm034

they’re going to turn him into a NT

  • jdkchem

    Kelly in Caolina,
What the hell are you doing in Carolina? You made too much sense! I should have known you went to Centaurus!

  • Justin

Im hoping for Worrell Williams in the 5th!

  • kerry

a guard. a freaking guard. ok now im just laughing at McDaniels. seriously. this is comedy at its finest and at its worst. him and Bowlen must be throwing darts at players names and wherever the dart sticks, thats who they pick. we could make a Southpark Episode out of this.

  • alm034

i think this is due to concern over ben hamilton and casey weigmann’s health through the season

  • Matt

I actually hope the South Park guys factor this draft into next week’s episode somehow as I know they’re broncos fans.

  • http://www.kellyleephipps.com Kelly in Carolina

    jdkchem:

I’ve been in exile since I quit college football, it was a girl story, to travel the world with her. I ended up living in Key West for 8 years, writing a few books, and then my ex-wife moved to Charlotte, and so I could be in my son’s life for my 6 months a year, I moved to Asheville NC in 2001, I call it Far East Boulder…

But this living in the woods has been isolating, and I was just on Wife Swap last friday night, and now we’re thinking of relocating back to the West, my new wife and I. They paid us 20K for being on the show, so we might sell or rent our cool A-frame and travel back to Boulder!

  • kerry

great. lost out on Terrence Taylor and Jason Phillips. two positions we need and we select a guard. Brilliant. this team is getting worse. i guess McDaniels has never heard of the D-line positions.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle
  • SanDiegoBronco55

the southpark first half of the season run is over….great show….a guard though? wtf….yeah im hopin we get worell williams too…thatd be tight.

  • referee

To Kelly in Carolina: You say you are an optimist and a former Buff, but your blog sounds more like you were a cheerleader. McDaniels HAS had a chance already, as far as many of the fans are concerned. He botched the Cutler situation and from the selections he has made so far in the draft, he has botched them, as well. The only other person that seems to have “out-botched” him is Pat Bowlen.

So far, no decisions the Broncos have made in 2009 have seemed wise. Not the new coach, the new GM, nor drafting around the needs of the announced new strategy. The responsibility starts from the top down, but it’s the players and ultimately, the FANS, that are the biggest losers in all of this. So stop trying to take away our desire to express our derision. We’re pissed and we believe that collectively, all of these decisions will embarrass us this year, as a team, a city and as fans.

  • SanDiegoBronco55

    a trade….

  • robtink242

    wide out

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Broncos trade up to 141 to select WR Kenny McKinley… some injury concerns, very productive, slot guy.

  • Justin

    lol a wide reciever

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

He’s also a Center, which fills a need. I don’t see what’s wrong about it. Wide Receiver is also a need because of Brandon “I get charges” Marshall.

  • SanDiegoBronco55

so yeah this cant get any worse i dont think…hahah i am literally in shock right….absolutly in shock.
