Kudos to Rich Eisen who respectfully played hardball with Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. Jay really didn’t want to answer some of those questions, so he stammered and I’m not exactly sure what he meant in any of his responses. As a guy who bleeds orange and blue, I’m not sure what to think in this day and age. Check this.

  • NathanH

Haha, that was a great interview.

Heard you’ve had a little problems getting the calls if you know what i mean. haha.

And, he didn’t deny asking for a trade after Bates left. That further confirms he started all this BS.

  • Jason

Really? All the rumors, all the evidence – once you put it all together and look at it as a whole – suggest that Jay and Bus were the culprits all along. The very 1st printing on Yahoo! news – where Bus was quoted in saying -hell ya Jay should be pissed- was telling. Agents don’t come out and say crap like that unless they are posturing.

I am honestly disappointed in Denver fans that would rather be ignorant and pissed at Josh than informed and objective, even if it shatters their image of Jay. Dogmatism is a terrible way to live and I have seen way too much of it.

I’d break down the case more thoroughly; however, my comment would be entirely too long.

5:23 jay: “give me a call, i’ll answer”

    lol

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

    AKscott- haha! I laughed too.

I had forgot about all the Vanderbilt people in Chicago.

  • Ozzybeef

Jay was on the Afternoon Saloon on ESPN 1000 in Chicago yesterday. You can hear the podcast on the website.

This link might get you there:
    http://stations.espn.go.com/stations/espnradio1000/archive?id=3095452

He starts at about the 10min mark.

Its laughable that he thinks the Chicago receivers are decent.

  • flbronc

jay mentioned that a bunch of his new teammates called, i wondered if he answered….

  • Ryan M.

Jay seems sad to be gone. Careful what you wish for…

  • http://broncomadness.com Garrett Barnes

I have to admit, I think that we did a pretty good deal here… I think that both teams got the best they possibly could. The Bears got a franchise Quarterback, and we got 2 picks that could turn into franchise players and an average Quarterback with a neckbeard. Advantage: Broncos

  • Moose

I have been saying for five weeks this was all Jay’s fault. He tried to power play the Broncos and it blew up in his face. He thought he was bigger than the Broncos, Pat Bowlen and Josh McDaniels and wanted the Broncos to kiss his butt! He has that rich boy feeling of entitlement and expects everyon to make him the king. Good Riddance Jay. And as Josh said it is all about wins and leadership two thing Jay has none of and Kyle Orton does. As far as Orton goes don’t sell him short. I heard both Mike Ditka and Ron Jaworski, two opinions I respect, say that he is a better QB than people know and is underrated. And in that sorry ass Chicago offensive scheme he could never thrive. Lovie Smith and Ron Turner are terrible offensive coaches as JayC will soon see. Nobody mistakes Tom Brady for a great athlete but as a quarterback and a leader he has it all. Alos Orton’s offense at Purdue was a form of the shotgun, option route kind of offense that McDaniels will use. And the Broncos don’t need to draft a quarterback use all these precious picks for defense as this draft is loaded with defensive studs. I know after ten years of nothing for title runs here in Denver it is hard to be peatient but it will take two years for them to rebuild this bad defense and it shows how bad Shannie had gotten at building a defense. I say good for the Broncos in what they got and getting a distraction out of the lockeroom. It is funny what BMarsh said about who cares for 4500 yards and 25 TD’s when you can’t win. Kyle Orton the new quarterback of the Denver Broncos!!!!!

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

THERES STILL A CHANCE WE GET QUINN!! Lol, I would be more excited about having Quinn on board than I would Orton. What does everyone else think?

    Heres the link

  • soxbigdog

The more I read about Kyle Orton, the more I like him as a person, I am not completely sold on him as a qb yet

But he seem really level headed, and he is commited to ‘something’ at least, he is a big enviromental guy, drives a little hybrid car, and goes around telling kids about saving energy and what not…

even if you don’t agree with that kind of stuff, you have to tip your hat to him to being so commited to something that he is willing to get teased by his teammates when they all drive up in their Hummers and whatnot, you he is pulling up in a Prius…

I didn’t expect Cutler to answer anything, and “not denying” doesn’t really mean anything either way.

I’m finally settling down from all this. While I think the Broncos will miss Jay Cutler, there’s nothing we can do about that now (except for ask McD’s head, which I do). So let’s focus on the future with Neckbeard, a bunch of draft picks, and a new era of Broncos football.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

    Agreed!

  • SuperfanDB

Can we quit calling Culter a franchise QB already. He has proven nothing, can’t represent himself well let alone a billion dollar company, and lacks the maturity to take charge of his own career. Culter looked like he was stoned in his interview. Ah….. I’m just really excited to be here….wait, what did my agent tell me to say. I watched Sanchez after his pro day and let me tell you, one of them is the face of a franchise and it isn’t the mop haired moron in Chi town.
Marshall was outstanding in his interview. I wish he could demonstrate that maturity off camera.
We are going to love Orton. Look at our past record with a bearded QB. I have been in Chicago in November and December. Coldest I have ever been in my life. I hope the player will enjoy that.

  • broncoNM

Joe- I read this yesterday and i must admit i got excited about the idea of having Quinn…But i think the 18th pick is too steep. I hear that the browns are looking for draft picks and if mangini is trying to unload Quinn i think the broncos should offer less and see if Cleveland bites…If not i think we can live with Orton…I like his attidtue and McD could do alot with him…I have also read rumors on another forum that the redskins may still be trying to trade campbell for a 3rd rd pick…Dont know know if there is any truth to it but the more i hear about Orton the more i like him. I am not opposed to bringing in another QB because competition is great and McD can choose the guy that fits the best and understands the system.

Who will start for the broncos in September?

  • BlueDane
  • champ2203

awesome interview Cutlers the man! I know you all will say he’s gone and I need to move on and maybe your right but its funny how when Jay takes the high road and doesn’t answer questions that would make Mc D and the front office look bad you say he’s avoiding things and stammering. But when Mc D does it in his press confrence it’s all good. He doesn’t even have enough respect to say Jay he says the player. Stop being homers and see hoodie JR for what he really is. and if not don’t down Jay either.

  • NathanH

champ, i’m sorry, but you’re either 13 or oblivious, or both.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

The more and more I see Orton play on youtube and stuff, I would not mind him at our Qb. But than again, I would rather have Orton as our backup, rather than Simms. Orton is due $1 Mill this season, and Simms signed a $6 mill deal over two years. Lets trade Simms and the 18th pick for Quinn. Than what do you guys think about this: Trading the 12th pick of the draft to the low 20’s and trade that to Cleveland for Shawn Rogers. With Raji failing a drug test, I don’t know what to think about him. Shawn Rogers is a proven monster that would immediatley upgrade our line. Whats everyone elses thoughts?

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

And out of that deal we would get more draft picks from the team we trade with to get the 20 something pick in the draft. They would have to give up there 20 something pick and a 2nd or a 3rd rounder.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

I mean if you think about it, I am sure the Dolphins would be interested in our 12th pick due to the fact that they lost a corner and a safety just on defense to us. They can go draft Jenkins with the 12th pick.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

    Kyle

I think we can win without Jay Cutler, yes he was an above average player NOT great. But I think long term we will be better off… Jay Cutler was not the difference in Denver if he was we’d be in the playoffs last year…

Have fun losing in Chicago Jay …

P.S. By the way NFL Network had classic games on and it had the Broncos and Chargers game from 2008. I almost threw up when I saw Cutler’s interception to Cason in the endzone with 5 minutes left…

Cutler = Great? Hardly…. Above Average ? I guess we have you QB’s like Luke McCown still in the league.

  • Nicole

    Dear Denver,
It’s over… you can now stop the talk. Jay has left and just leave it alone. There’s not anything more to say. No one cares what anybody is saying anymore. It has held the nation hostage long enough… talk about Kyle Orton and your first regular season game against the Cowboys. Jay is happy in Chicago and it is time that you LEFT HIM ALONE! The man said nice things about you… NOW TAKE IT AND STOP TALKING ABOUT HIM! He left you alone… NOW GROW UP AND LEAVE HIM ALONE! You are acting as though you want the drama to continue and the only thing that you’re doing is making yourselves look like you love the nonsense. YOU’RE IN DENVER/HE’S IN CHICAGO/NO ONE BUT YOU WANTS BMARSH AND HIS MESS! For the love of mankind-STOP THE MADNESS AND LET IT DIE!

EVERYBODY IS TIRED OF IT-LET IT GO!

  • http://bungie.net BroncoLover4Life

This offseason had not gotten off to the best start, nor a start any Bronco fan could imagine 6 months ago.

Cutler is a Bear and I am happy for him. His life long dream has come a reality. Things happen for a reason.

With a coach like McDaniels Orton can do the job. We have many draft picks to help us and Dawkings was a hell of a pick up.

Hillis will see a lot of play under this system and I have hope that we can surprise the league.

New beginnings are never a bad thing and as any NFL fan you have to realize that things change.

HOPE FOR 2009 BRONCOS 4 LIFE.

  • flbronc

superfan- THANK YOU! how do you call a 17-20 qb a franchise qb? i dont get it eiter. he certainly has potential to be a ‘franchise qb’, but he’s not there yet. he took a step back by going to chicago and into ron turners system. i think it will be years before he is a legit ‘franchise qb’, if they can ever get the tools around him.

  • flbronc

for the quinn discussion: the browns have a 22nd overall in for him. he hasnt done especially well in cleveland and the coach doesnt really want him. he’s only been the starter for what 5 games? that was because of injury right- did he lose it when anderson came back or was it for his preformance (honestly i am asking, because i dont know).

my point is, the 18th overall is way too high for him. he’s still as risky as drafting a rookie imo, due to his lack of playing time thus far. personally, i wanted quinn prior to the trade. now that we have orton though, i dont see a need for him. i do wish that we could ditch simms though, man did we overpay for him…

  • Jared

hahahahahahahah you guys got Kyle Orton!!!! hahahahahaha good luck with that, your new coach just slit the broncos throat and that is a fact!!! your season is toast this year!!!! but why did he have to come to the vikes division dang it…oh and Cris Simms???? hahahahahahaha boy did McDaniels screw things up fast in Denver!!!!! it can take forever to find a guy like Cutler for a QB…Stammerring about questions???? Listen up noob, Jay wants to put all this stuff behind him, that is why he didn’t want to get into who said what and did what….sheez you noob you should know that….hey Broncos, good luck with your season this year hahahahaha, I myself will be laughing my ars off all year long at you guys hahahahah just wait and see…

  • Jared

oh and one more thing, Jay was the only reason Denver won ANY games last year…the D was worse than Detroit!!!!!!! the whole Denver team needed Jay, just you wait and watch and then you can say dang Jared is smarter than McDaniels our dumb new coach who went out and got some of the worst QB’s in the league and traded a good qb away, nice work McDumbsh1t hahahahahhahahahahhahahahahhahahaha, boy Chargers are going to stomp you now and so will the chiefs!!!! welcome to the bottom of the barrel like the Raiders!!! hey at least now the Raiders will have something to shoot for….hahahahah and if you honestly think this was a good move for Denver well hey, then you are just plain stupid and you cant fix stupid

  • baltimore, md

Bronco fan for 23 years and will now be a Bear fan (atleast until Mcdaniels is gone). I’m sad for those of you who think this is Jay’s fault and more sad for those who don’t think he is going to be a great QB. Disappointed in Marshall for bashing the guy who took him into his home after he continues to beat up his girlfriends and do not understand how a receiver who had the most, or second most dropped passes last year can talk any smack at all. McDaniels is a douche and looked like a freakin monkey with all the faces he made during the press conference. And, pretty telling how little respect he has for Cutler by continuing to call him “The Player”. And real professional by sending Cutler a TEXT MESSAGE to try to communicate? SERIOUSLY? How old are we again? And everyone is saying Jay needs to grow up? Grow up douche and lose the sweatshirt jr. All in all, this is all Bowlen’s fault. Let’s see, second best offense in the league…qb that is one of 3 to throw for 4500 and 25 scores(impressive considering everone knew they were throwing the ball with no running game)…is 13-1 when the DEFENSE holds the opponent to under 22 points…and he goes and gets 32 year old douche jr instead of a defensive minded coach? Great move Al Davis!
Reap what you sow front office. enjoy being the laughing stock of the weak west.
Hoping Eddie RoyalTY becomes a free agent and comes to the Bears

  • alm034

Why would you rather have an unproven QB (Quinn) who’s own coaches are only lukewarm about instead a veteran QB with playoff experience (Orton)? If you feel the need for a young gun to groom in the system, stand pat at #12 or #18 and pick josh freeman or someone else in the later rounds without having to give up anything. (Not a fan of Mark Sanchez, but that could happen too I suppose.)

  • robtink242

We play Orton this season gage how he plays then decide whether or not to get a QB in next year’s draft. Sam Bradford or Colt McCoy hopefully. I’ve seen Orton highlights but i wish we had QB with a cannon arm. I could live without the “gunslingers” mentality just a powerful arm something like Peyton Manning. Thats if Josh McDaniels last as HC. If for any reason we fire McDaniels I’m fine with Orton or Simms.

  • http://jvpink@hotmail.com whidbey bronco

    Robotink242
Hey nice to agree with you for a change. We BETTER NOT draft a qb this year. Next year maybe.

    Dee
Get off Cutler, time will tell. Makes you look like an ass frankly. Maybe I should go on about Xanders/Mcdaniels & Bowlen screwing up the most promising bit of our upcoming? At least that’d be talking about Denver!

Instead let’s focus on the draft and upcoming season.

I’m hoping we draft defense with our first three picks. D-line, ILB then take a chance on a speedy (tall) CB. If Bmarsh keeps running his life like he runs his mouth, we could also take a chance on a late round big/fast WR. A future Center prospect might be nice too.

oh everybody can quit going on about McDaniel’s coaching prowess just because he played under Belichek! Unless you want to include the other recent coordinators from NE!

Let’s hope he breaks the chain, I like the brains/character of our two qb’s. I believe a good coach with our line and WRs should make one of them a legit starter.

  • broncoNM

flbronc- I think Quinn had a broken finger that side lined him…your right we signed simms to a hefty contract for a back up…I dont think we could give him away. I agree that the 18th pick is too high. If we have any interest in Quinn and the browns want to move him we should offer a 2nd rd pk OR 3rd rd pick with a conditional pick next year (based on performance between 2nd rd and 4th rd). If Quinn ends up starting in ’09 than we give up another 2nd rd pk in 2010…If he doesnt beat out Orton than we give up a 4th rd pick next yr. I agree with joe that it would be great to have quinn and Orton battle it out for the starting spot and Orton is in his final yr of his contract and it looks like he comes pretty cheap so we could probably afford both guys for a year. Im not sure what we would do with simms tho?? Quinn is unproven and i would rather grab a defensive player at 18th. I dont think the chances of us landing Quinn is slim but i hope we dont offer up a 1st rd pk if do go after him.
Shaun Rogers is not going anywhere…He has reported to camp and i thought i read that if Cle trades him they will take 10 mil cap hit which im sure they would like to avoid.

  • Sue

My son and I lived in Denver during the Elway years. We will never forget the excitement of watching his first super bowl win. For the first time since Elway retired we looked forward to watching Cutler, who has the presence and potential to be a great quarterback. It is very sad and disappointing that he will no longer be a part of the Broncos.

  • broncoNM

*I do think the chances of us landing Quinn are slim- sorry

  • http://bungie.net BroncoLover4Life

I really don’t understand all this talk on Quinn. My dead grandmother can throw farther.

Orton has at least won in this league. I’d much rather have neckbeard than some cover-boy who throws like a girl.

  • brandocommando

i don’t like the idea of trading our 18th for quinn… we need the defense now so take it because were on the board, there is alot of good qbs coming out next year and some potential talent to be picked up in later rounds of the draft. any thoughts on taking Graham Harrell from Texas Tech in a later round? Forget all the talk of him being a “system quaterback” aren’t all NFL qb’s just “system quarterbacks” anyways? He has a cannon arm and he makes good fast reads hes not that fast but our O-line only gave up something like 11 sacks last year so he will get protection, McDaniels is going to run something similar to what he ran at Tech, alot of 4 reciever sets and mostly shotgun, and if McDaniels is everything he is cracked up to be with developing quarterbacks lets see if he can work some late round draft pick magic (i.e. Tom Brady, Matt Cassel?) any thoughts?

  • http://jvpink@hotmail.com whidbey bronco

And Simms gets One More Chance right? Hell we paid enough! Coach must have seen something & we know he has the pedigree & the heart.

  • Brian

Was I the only one who was going to hold Tatem Bell accountable for McJay Gate? I really thought Tatem sold him a crappy phone that didn’t work, however Cutler just said his phone works just fine. I’d better get going as David Kircus is making me a $5 foot long @ Subway!

  • Roy

Finally watched this video. Wow. Cutler could be a politician with the way he avoids answering a question. That dude is so full of crap.

  • broncoNM

I know he had a disappointing pro day(no one showed up)…but what about Nate Davis? He is a pocket passer with good decision making, awareness and vision. The guy is 6’2″ 217. He is not very mobile but neither is brady or cassel. Not sure where he is projecting but i would assume 3rd-4th rd?

  • Olen

“Please , Please , Please and Please ,hope that we start having some fun and enjoyment again with the Broncos playing up to their potential “. With so much negative happening in this world it would be nice to catch some positive stuff .

  • kerry

all this Quinn talk is stupid. Orton is far more proven then Quinn is. now all of you that hailed the Cutler trade was so great because we got draft picks wanna unload draft picks for an unproven Brady Quinn. what the hell is the matter with most of you??! “OH TRADE CUTLER BECAUSE HE DIDNT CALL BOWLEN BACK FAST ENOUGH” “OH YEAH WE TRADED CUTLER FOR DRAFT PICKS WOOHHHOOO WE ARE SO MUCH BETTER NOW” “NOW LETS TAKE THOSE PICKS AND TRADE THEM FOR QUINN!!” what the hell are all of you thinking??!! Quinn is a joke! Orton is better then Quinn by far. what has Quinn shown any of you that suggests he will be better then Orton?? oh thats right nothing!! Orton is 15-2 at home career and won 11 games as a rookie. Quin hasnt done anything except whine about his rookie contract. but yeah lets dump the pro bowl QB then trade the picks we got for an unproven QB. yeah that is a stroke of pure genius people!! dump the Pro Bowl QB for hit or miss draft picks, then trade those picks for the weakarmed unproven QB. yeah great idea. lets Trade Ryan Clady also for a seventh rounder. then take that seventh rounder and trade it for a kicker. that would be a good idea too right?

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

    Kerry-

I would like to have Quinn in Denver, even if he is a backup to Orton. Quinn can learn stuff from Orton. We have Simms as a backup, for fuck sake. He sucks. Than after Quinn learns from Orton for a year or two, we can just go with him.
And lets not forget that trading Jay was bullshit to begin with. He was and is still my favorite player. So why not get another young QB in here that could eventually be a good one?
And you think Orton is the longterm answer? If he is so good, than why the hell did the Bears give him up? If he is such a winner and has a better record than Jay, than why the hell did they give him up and a bunch of picks for Jay?
    Explain this to me, Kerry

  • robtink242

Kerry is right. Face it we traded Cutler lets move on. In that trading Quinn is bulls***. Only young QB’s I’ll trade for is Chad Hene from the Dolphins, Troy Smith from the Ravens, Tyler Thigpen from the Chiefs, or Matt Flynn from the Packers. All of them have better arms than Quinn and all will cost the team less.

Chris Simms for Troy Smith. or trade Chicago’s 3 round for him.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETtmxUOBQ8A&feature=related

    Thats a Brady Quinn video.

And yes, everyone knows that we traded Jay. Lets all get past saying that. And for the record, who the hell is Troy Smith amd Chad Hene? And you don’t want Brady Quinn, but yet you would take Tyler Thigpen? Are you serious now? Wow.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

So I would trade Simms and a third rounder for Quinn, if we could get by with that. Than we could draft Raji and someone else in the first rounds

  • fresno bronco

Screw Quinn, we’re fine thie year. Stick with Orton/Simms and draft some good D. Next year, use a top draft pick for Bradford, et al. Simple.
