Below is the first 5 minutes of the Josh McDaniels press conference today in which he addresses the Jay Cutler trade.  By address, I mean vague mentioning. You can get a full length audio version of the presser here.

    Dear Broncos Fan,

I am writing this letter today because I feel compelled to give our community and our fans an explanation regarding the Jay Cutler situation.

One of my directives to Josh McDaniels upon his hiring was that he consider everything possible to return the Broncos to the level which you and I both expect, and this certainly includes making a fair evaluation of every opportunity presented to us which might improve the team. He and General Manager Brian Xanders have had my complete support throughout, and they have it now. It is important that you know that at all times we represented ourselves to Jay with honesty and integrity.

I assure you both Josh and I made repeated attempts to reach out to Jay, and I can not speak for him as to why he chose to limit his response. Ultimately, given his unwillingness to speak with either of us directly in the last 12 days- at the same time his agent clearly stating to us Jay’s intentions- it became very apparent to me personally that he no longer wanted to play for the Denver Broncos. As such, we elected to trade him.

Understand this: it remains about team. Our franchise has gone to the Super Bowl six times, with three different coaches and with many different players. It has never been about one player, and it never will be. Coach McDaniels shares this vision, and everyone in the organization—players, coaches and staff—must understand and accept this unconditionally. If anyone does not, that person will not be a part of this franchise.

I am extremely proud of our franchise, its accomplishments, and the region and fans that we represent. We have an illustrious history, one which we are all anxious to add to, and if someone does not wish to be with us as we head in this direction, then we will move on, and move forward.

Over 96% of our season ticket holders have chosen to renew their tickets for the 2009 season. This is once again a compelling statement of support and trust by the greatest fans in the NFL, and I assure you my only goal is and always will be to compete at the highest championship level.

The Denver Broncos will move forward in 2009 as one team, united with the most loyal and passionate fan base in football, towards the only goal we will ever pursue.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your understanding and continued support.

    Sincerely,

    Pat Bowlen

Tom Brady, Matt Cassel, and Kyle Orton not like each other?

All of them are 6’4 within 15 pounds of each other and are pocket passers. What a standard answer.

However, Orton doesn’t have the innate instincts that Brady posses, lets hope McDaniels and McCoy, arguably the best QB coaches in the NFL, can teach him.

    What a crapy off season

  • soxbigdog

Watched the whole thing on NFL Network

He said he wasnt allowed to be alone with Culter because Cutler’s agent wouldn’t allow it ???

Seemed to be “Belichick-ing” alot of anwers… Downplaying the importance of one player, but stopping short of saying that one player doesnt make a team…

Said how great a QB Cutler was, but wouldnt commit to calling him one of the ‘elites’ when asked if Cutler was…

NFL Network said afterwards that they got the idea that McD stated he told Cutler ‘ahead’ of time that there may be trade talk, before the Cassel fiasco.

Freakin soap opera I swear, at least is over

    scumbag

Is that a real letter from Bowlen?

  • Let plummerplay

Real letter sent to season ticket holders today. Trust me

  • http://mrherculesrockefeller.blogspot.com hercules rockefeller

I see you’re a season ticket holder. Congratulations.

I’m a season ticket holder and I haven’t received that e-mail yet. Then again, I’m not even sure if I have an address registered with the Broncos. I can say one thing about that 96% renewal rate, it would be much lower if most of us suckers wouldn’t have pre-paid for this season by buying non-existent playoff tickets for last postseason. With all the recent moves, it would be hard to cut that check.

  • Let plummerplay

its now posted on the Broncos website

  • Chris

And how many times to McDouchebag continue to call Jay Cutler “The Player” in his presser?? Sheesh. I really hate that. It is sssoo f’in demeaning to anyone. You are not in New England anymore. You are not Belicheck. Hell, he was even wearing an f’ing hoodie!

  • DaBroncos

I hope they don’t cesor my comment here.

I watched the press conference and posted a blog—it got swept!!!! There are only 14 pretty comments on the McDumbAss press conference.
    Here is what I said:
Hi Josh Mc D****** the league can only have one Bill Bellicheck—What’s up with the hoodie and the lip smacking.
I am a trained investigator, and can read body languge—-McDumbAss is not being exactactly truthful.
The best the Broncos will do this year is 4 and 12—-nobody wins here! We lost a franchise QB—period!!!
All sides failed, but I blame McDumbAss the most!!!!! If you saw the interview with McDumbAss, you saw a Coach who is trying his best to be a Bill Bellicheck wannabe—Take some ownership McDumbAss, there is plenty to go around.
Cutler looked more and sounded more professional then our coach—is this what is leading our team in the future?????? Sucks!!!!
    Bring it McDumbAss!!!!!!
Let’s see if you can be the first Bellicheck wannabe to make it on any level of this sport!!!!!!!

I may be reaching for straws, however as a “true” Bronco fan, I can only hope that Pat Bowlen and Josh Mc Daniels have some sort of plan to resurrect our defense. Our o-line has promise and I pray that with a “healthy” back field and our recieving corps being better than most , Orton or Sims will be adequate for the time being. Lets get some value off of our draft choices that we sacraficed for. DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE….Maybe Raji might be available at 12 and Cushing @ 18, maybe Rey? Who knows? All I know is that our defense has sucked ever since Trevor Pryce left. Hopefully Elvis can develop as a line backer and Jarvis Moss can as well. With DJ, Champ, and now Brian Dawkins, there is reason for us to be optomistic. I don’t like what transpired with Shannahan nor the whole Cutler saga but what is done is done. Change is inevitable, but loyalty is forever for those who really love this team. Vent, rant and say what you will, this situation is similar to the one that faces our country. I didn’t vote for Obama, however, for the betterment of this country, I hope he proves to be our best President ever and can fix this mess. Same with Mc Daniels, don’t like him but for the sake of our belloved Broncos, I can only hope that he can right this ship. Pat Bowlen has been waiting for his ship to come in ever since Elway retired, lets just hope Mc Daniels doesn’t bring him the Titanic

I hope Cutler gets sacked 50 times, throws 50 interceptions and the Bears go 0-16 and not to spite Cutler but because we get their 1st round pick next year. We need to remember we are Bronco fans and not fans of individual players. I thought Cutler had a bright future he has a lot of talent but has a lot to learn.

One thing that bugs me though is all the people acting like our Offense was something special last year. Folks we were far from it, yes there were a few games where we looked special. But in most games we just could not score or get anything going consistently on offense. Yes we went through a lot of Rb’s but still that is no excuse for how our offense executed last year. One example, we played the lowly freaking Buffalo Bills in Denver last year. We win and were AFC west champs we have everything to gain and they are playing for nothing. On top of that we played them in Denver. Our D sucked like all year but in that situation our offense put up 23 points, Folks there’s nothing special about that. So get over it, our D needs some major rebuilding but our offense has plenty room for improvement. So lets be patient and see what happens.

  • SanDiegoBronco55

dude…McD hasnt even coached one game yet…give the guy a break, my god….Cutler never did have the “IT” that lets teams win games….he never won games at Vandy or here….Win % is everything..i dont care what kind of defense there is…he was still the one bitchin and moanin on the sideline after every INT, and had critical turnover after another…he pouts and bitches…Rivers is still a dbag and I used to defend Cutler because he was our QB, but not anymore…looking back on it, Cutler was just as worse…hope the Bears go 4-12, so we can get a high draft pick!…good luck Cutler, NOT, hope you choke a phat one!

If McD can make Cassel a somewhat Pro Bowl caliber QB, than Orton be right up there! Look at who Orton had around him? Name a couple studly receivers, or TEs or RBs…yeah I didnt think so…that article on the denver post form chicago sun times said it to a tee…Orton had no one…Cutler has Brandon Marshall, Royal and Scheff, and Stokley…dude we have all the weapons of a good offense…so dont bullshit the coach..can we at least wait until we are 1-5 then bitch him…kidding, we’ll be fine guys. GO BRoncos! By the way, that letter from Bowlen was pure class, how many owners do that? Yeah…

  • SuperfanDB

Looks like we have some Raider fans posting as Broncos on this site. I mean how can you ignore the fact that Cutler asked for a trade not once but twice. What about Culter’s comment about loyalty to the players and not the coaches. He was not a Bronco and would never be the next Elway. Get it through your thick freakin heads. The only people demonstrating loyalty to the Broncos are the coaches, the owner and the rest of the team in the voluntary workouts. Forget that quarterback and take a real look at Orton. Where was he this morning? At Dove Valley taking care of his freaking business. He knows what we have and he gets to play with.
Best quote of the year so far was by Orton, ” I don’t talk to my agent every day.” Outfreakinstanding. I will buy a number 8 jersey tomorrow.

  • champ2203

There will plenty of #8 jersey’s avail. LOL

I understand having strong opinions for or against Cutler in this mess, but personal attacks on the people who disagree with you are unnecessary.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

I agree. Chill out you guys.

  • http://bungie.net BroncoLover4Life

This offseason had not gotten off to the best start, nor a start any Bronco fan could imagine 6 months ago.

Cutler is a Bear and I am happy for him. His life long dream has come a reality. Things happen for a reason.

With a coach like McDaniels Orton can do the job. We have many draft picks to help us and Dawkings was a hell of a pick up.

Hillis will see a lot of play under this system and I have hope that we can surprise the league.

New beginnings are never a bad thing and as any NFL fan you have to realize that things change.

HOPE FOR 2009 BRONCOS 4 LIFE.

If i can be honest for a second i think this entire situation is F’ed!!! Kyle Norton is ‘hot trash’… i wouldn’t have traded cutler for urlacher… who in their right mind would contemplate trading a QB with as much talent as cutler? yeah there was some drama behind the scenes but i don’t care. you heard it first, cutler will win a super bowl before the donkeys even appear in one. thanks for nothing Pat.
