Jay Cutler wants out

Jay Cutler wants out

News just in! Pat Bowlen is not happy with Jay Cutler. Sorry for the picture, it was just too hilarious not to put up, no matter what your opinion is. So now where will this vexed quarterback land? Well this is the NFL so there are a slew of theories. According to Yahoo Sports, nine teams are interested in Cutler.

Several league personnel sources confirmed to Yahoo! Sports that at least six teams are expected to be seriously involved in trade talks: the New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns. The Jacksonville Jaguars have also shown interest, while the Minnesota Vikings actually pulled the plug on trade negotiations for Cutler back in February.

That’s just eight teams right there, the article further reports that the Redskins are in the market for Cutler as well. Many of you will think, “they’re content because Jason Campbell is their passer.” The article explains, that Jim Zorn and Dan ‘Money Bags’ Synder went out to visit USC players Mark Sanchez and  Brian Cushing, but they were possibly more interested in Sanchez. Synder may stop at nothing to make Jay Cuter a skin, and there has been unofficial reports of Synder meeting with Mike Shanahan.  I don’t feel as this trade will be a viable option for Denver because they won’t want Jason Campbell. Denver must have a replacement quarterback unless they feel like Chris Simms can do the job.

Trade Scenarios

Keep in mind that all of these scenarios are just that. The accuracy or validity of this article cannot be verified because we are an unofficial Denver Broncos Blog and News Site. Therefore if this article provokes any feelings of malcontent you should just remember that it’s a blog and people are bouncing around ideas and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, except Kerry. Just kidding Kerry, you know we all love you, I even gave you a tag.

  • Jay Cutler for Brady Quinn, 1st-2nd rounder, or Shaun Rogers.

Anyone interested in a Brady Quinn? This trade would sent Cutler to Cleveland and Quinn to Denver along with put off defensive tackle Shaun Rogers. If Cleveland wants to hold on to the gargantuan that is Rogers then they will have to replace him with a draft pick as high as first rounder and as low as a second. Josh McDaniels cannot afford to accept a 2010 draft pick, the term ‘next season’ should not be in his vocabulary.

  • Jay Cutler for 1st and 20th overall in 2009 Draft.

This is a gutsy trade. The first overall pick and the 20th overall pick for Jay Cutler. From here Denver will wield 3 first rounders, this means they have the capability to draft Matt Stafford, Tyson Jackson, and a outside linebacker like Larry English or Aaron Maybin. That is just one of several possibilities. Take into account trading one or more of those first rounders and Denver could land B.J. Raji, Aaron Curry, or heck really anyone with those kind of picks. The two main problems with this reside in trusting a rookie quarterback, really just rookie players, and the kind of money it would take to sign multiple first round guys, especially if two are taken in the top 12.

  • Jay Cutler for Trent Edwards, 11th overall, and 2nd-4th rounder.
Jay Cutler & Tony Scheffler for Trent Edwards, Donte Whitner, or 1st-2nders.

If Denver sends Jay Cutler to upstate New York you should expect seeing Trent Edwards another player, or some draft picks en-route to the Mile High city. Many analysts deem Edwards as one of the most underrated passers in the league. This 25 year old is 6’4, 231 pounds, and plays mostly from the pocket like a New England style quarterback. Edwards has never had a dynamic receiver to throw to and just like Cutler is on a team with a porous defense. Also, Edwards’ left tackle “Pro-Bowler” Jason Peters gave up 11.5 sacks, the most in the NFL last season. With all that being said it’s still hard to say that Trent Edwards is the kind of guy you’d want as your guy replacing Jay Cutler. Josh McDaniels has had a lot experience up against Edwards so that could play into effect. Buffalo is in serious need of a tight end and a package deal of Cutler and Tony Scheffler could reel in some good draft picks or players such as Donte Whitner. Whitner is a great up and coming safety in this league.

  • Jay Cutler for Jason Campbell, 13th overall, plus a second and third rounder.
Jay Cutler for Jason Campbell and LaRon Landry.

It is no secret that Dan Synder loves to spend his money. Synder loves to make the Redskins the New York Yankees of the NFL. This trade would have to involve Cutler for Jampbell and many picks. I wrote previously that there has been some unconfirmed and unofficial reports (rumors is the real word) that Shanahan has had meetings with Synder and if it’s true they’re probably not talking about golf. This trade will be very hard for the Redskins to pull off, they will have somehow provide a good quarterback with draft picks, or LaRon Landry and draft picks. I just don’t see this happening, Landry is hands down one of the best safeties in the game and both Landry and Jampbell would be way too much for Washington to give up. I wouldn’t put it past good old ‘Money Bags’ Synder to do what he does best, spend a fortune on hyped up players who critics call overrated.

The wildcard in all of these trade scenarios is Chris Simms. If McDaniels feels like Simms can handle the starting job, then we will see a completely different kind of trade. That’s all I have for today. There are more teams to analyze but a man has got to get to work.

Now it’s time for you Bronco Nation. Where do you think Cutler will land? What are the prospects from other teams? It’s your turn to make the decision.

  • jcampb72

I like the cleveland idea best.

  • soxbigdog

I highly doubt detroit would give up both first round picks for cutler, also, I think that that #1 overall pick would be to pricey (contract wise) for the Broncos taste… more likely is that Lions would part with #20 and the first pick in the 2nd round #33 (which amounts to a late first round pick)… and detroit would use the #1 overall pick to get an offensive lineman to protect cutler… This would give Denver #12, 20, and 33 overall in the draft, and they could easily acquire a Brady Quinn or Matt Leinhart with a few picks…

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

    jcampb

I agree with you, Cleveland seems like the best solution … and Cutler + ManGENIE? …. is there any greater punishment?

  • roshon2411

My vote is McDaniels for Bill Cowher or some kind of deal for Patrick Willis. Doubtful but draft picks are so iffy, get me one proven pro bowler for another.

  • Dee

I really DO NOT want to have Campbell on the broncos

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

i still think tampa could be involved somehow. Never discount the damn glazers when there’s wheeling and dealing to be done.

Of all the “available” qbs Quinn is the only one that interests me. He seems like the only one who could still be leading the team in two years. I don’t like rodgers though.

If i was doing this, i’d accept quinn, #5 and their 2nd as the minimum and chance my arm at getting a 2010 conditional.

  • BroncoTrevizo

I do like to Brady Qunni and Matt Stafford and Trent Edwards that’s all.

    Jay Cutler are “CRY BABY”!

  • Katch22

If we were able to swing Cutler for Quinn and Rodgers straight up then I say do it. McD gets his boy, Nolan gets his NT and we get the best player at 12.

  • http://thefootballexpert.com/forums/member.php?u=1219 Alex

u crazy if you think that jay cutler has this much trade value.

  • (stuck in) raiderland

The only thing appealing about Detroit is that it would serve as just karmic punishment for Cutler. That franchise, along with the NBA’s Clippers, might actually be doomed to permanent crappiness. Like a lot of fans my sympathies have shifted dramatically– pissed at McDaniels at first, now I’m more pissed with Cutler. Oh well.
But for the Broncos, I think Trent Edwards would be the most valuable trade.

  • jcps

Sit him if necessary. Play Simms, and wait. Get a back up QB. There are QB possibilities next year such as Bradford, Tebow, McCoy, etc.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

Cutler and T.O. – How fast to you think TO can ruin JC.

  • sabrina

    Jay Cutler for Tony Romo

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

A few factors to keep in mind: 1. The Denver Broncos clearly don’t have a ton of leverage in trying to deal Cutler; 2. They would somehow need to end up with another quarterback who is something Cutler isn’t — a good fit in new coach Josh McDaniels’ offense; 3. They would prefer to ship Cutler out of the AFC, if at all possible, because they don’t want him helping a team that could prevent them from making a run at the conference title.

    Sabrina- Will never happen

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

    T-Money,

That sounds like a reality TV show… oh wail T.O. already has one coming out…

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

    Also T-Money,

I feel that there is leverage out there. There are a on of teams who are in a desperate need of a good passer, and there are none out there in free agency or the upcoming draft. Denver can tell Cutler to sit on it if they don’t find a deal they like.

  • DC

T- didn’t I just read that somewhere else? T-Money: Copyright infringer

  • Roy

I love the idea of getting willis in a trade with the 49ers. That way I could talk smack to him once a year when he comes to seattle ;)

  • Anthony

Trade Option 1…Jay Cutler and Tony Scheffler to Cleveland for Brady Quinn, #5 overall pick and both of Cleveland second rounders, including the one they got from Tampa for Winslow. With that Draft Raji at #5 then Jackson or Maualuga at #12….Trade Option 2…Jay Cutler and Tony Scheffler to San Francisco for #10 Overall pick, Patrick Willis, Vernon Davis and a 2nd Rounder…With the 10th pick take Sanchez and #12 Tyson Jackson… Maybe this is wishful thinking but if there not going to maximize their value let him rot.

  • Katch22

You have to look at this like your selling something on ebay that alot of people want. They are going to keep outbidding each other for the item and since there is only one 25 year old pro bowl quarterback listed the return value is going to be great for the seller!

  • Sabo

Two things: I think the Campbell rumors are somewhat ironic since the ‘Skins picked him up with Denver’s 1st-round pick a few years back (#25, if memory serves).

Also, I agree with Mr. East. All this talk about the Broncos having lost leverage by making the announcement ignores the fact that there is huge demand for Cutler. The Broncos really haven’t lost any leverage at all. All you need are two teams trying to outbid one another to get the best deal possible. And there are a lot more than 2 teams out there who have no skills at the QB position.

  • Sabo

Anthony, I admire your optimism, but that’s some wishful thinking. Hell, Willis is so good that I would take him and a 2nd-rounder for Cutler. That man is a beast in the middle. But I think you can rest assured that he won’t be on the block.

  • kerry

this team is about to be set back 5 years and no amount of trades are gonna fix the QB situation. if we trade Cutler for Jason Campbell then McDaniels should be shot!! Campbell is a fucking bum!! maybe washintons 13th pick and LaRon Landry then select Sanchez who, according to NFL Live, is a QB that Mcdaniels likes. but who gives a shit what Mcdickchomp likes. i hate McDicklover. iam so super cereal!

  • jdkchem

The foreskins have nothing to offer. Why do they keep popping up? Jason Campbell? What are the foreskin fans smoking? With that logic the Broncs should have kept Nate Webster and offered him and a 2nd rounder for Julius Peppers.

  • Katch22

Wow Kerry you should work for the ad agency at McDonalds, you could name some bad ass new burgers. Mcdickchomp that awsome bro!

  • jdkchem

While the rending and gnashing is going on it is worth noting that Dan Marino never won a super bowl.

  • kerry

what the hell does Dan Marino have to do with ANYTHING!!!??!! who gives a shit about Dan Marino??!!

  • TD30isMVP

Trade Cutler to the Chiefs for Cassell and some picks and see if “The Coach” knew what he was doing getting rid of “The Player.”

  • Andpark

I hate Quinn, I hate Anderson, I hate Cambell, I hate Romo.

I would be furious about getting Edwards, or starting Simms.

Only thing that makes any sense is keep Cutler or build around Sanchez.
Whole thing is a disaster. Time Machine back Shan please!

  • jdkchem

kerry, perhaps you should work on your critical thinking skills. perhaps this will help, “What is the difference between Dan Marino and Trent Dilfer?” If you can figure that one out you might just be able to grasp the point of my comment.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

Terry Crews never won a Super Bowl either, but he did White Chicks, Get Smart, and Balls of Fury only to name a few. That’s pretty equal to me.

  • kerry

PFFFFFFTTTTTTT!! dude if you are gonna use Marino VS Dilfer in justifying getting rid of Cutler then you dont know anything about football.

  • artschambou

i think cutlar made a huge mistake, i hope he lands in detroit, it would serve him right for not handling this like a man. he deserves to be on a losing team!!

  • kerry

i cant believe how someone can even justify getting rid of Cutler by saying Marino never won a SB. yeah well Elway never won a SB until he had a team. if McDouchebagsaladtosser left Cutler here and just fixed the defense then Cutler would have that chance. Marion didnt have a team. Dilfer did genius. put a team around Cutler and all falls into place. DUUUUUUUHHHHH!!

  • http://www.kellyleephipps.com Kelly in Carolina

I would like to sign Quinn and acquire their 5th spot at number one and their 2nd round pick to, even if we have to throw Scheffler in to sweeten the deal. Use the 5th pick of the first round on Raji, they can keep Rodgers…

Trent Edwards would be good, but I prefer Quinn. No Campbell please!

If Simms is McD’s guy then at least bring in Byron Leftwich, as he performed sensationally with the Steelers, a QB who has at least lived the path to the Superbowl.

Some people on here used to gripe about Shanahan and how it’s time for Bowlen to grow a pair and let him go, and now they’re griping about the new coach. What coach would they have been happy with…what would these people do without their disgruntlement at the world?

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

    Kerry

How long are you going to hate McD for? He’s not going anywhere for at least 2 years.

  • NathanH

Byron isn’t right for the system.

Anyways, I really hope we pull something with Cleveland where we end up with Quinn and the 5th…Then take Raji and Tyson Jackson.

Jackson/Raji/Thomas? Would be a huge line and change the team quick.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

    http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/04/01/broncos-refute-cutlers-claim-that-he-wasnt-called/

The Broncos are going out of their way to show the fans that they did make an effort. I think Mike Florio’s “source” is his mother whom he lives with by the way.

PFT is turning into Cutler talk, I’m not sure about anyone’s else opinion of Florio but I think hes an asshole …

I dont think that teams are going to be scared away by the Broncos saying stuff about Cutler , because in the end … they dont have to trade him … they can … but they dont have to. And some team will break the bank to get Cutler , out of the 32 teams there’s also one dumbass team that will make the deal … (I’m looking at you Detroit)

  • stevo

wow ,just think the stillers have big ben for another 6 years…sounds like stairway to seven

  • Anthony

I STILL CAN”T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!

  • champ2203

jason campbell is horrible I will leave this team in the dust if they trade for him. I’m not a fair weather fan by no means but that deal plus our new coach who I have no respect for and pat bowlen that I USED to have respect for, making terrible decisions lately leaves nothing for me to hang on to. In three months this franchise went from respected to a joke. This whole ordeal makes me sick as a Bronco fan.

  • http://www.broncotalk.net Josh Temple

East, you left out the Tony Romo possibility. Yes, it’s a long shot, but there are a lot of Romo haters in Dallas and the Cowboys organization that don’t think Tony can ever win the big game. I think that’s an idiotic notion that could be taken advantage of, much akin to our own. I honestly could see Shanny giving Wade deja vu.

Other than that, I really like the idea of a ton of #1 high picks and the selection of Sanchez along with the defensive pieces. I have a feeling Stafford has bust written all over him. Scouts say that Sanchez also has more upside considering we’ve never seen a senior season out of him.

It’s sad that it came to this, but we have to look forward now.

  • robtink242

Hey Brandon Marshal is going to miss the offseason recovering from hip surgery.

maybe when he comes back he’ll break the single game catching record. Oh wait they’re trading the guy that makes this guy looks good.

And anyone who thinks Cutler’s replacement would be a shining star is an ASS. Matt Ryan’s and Joe Flacco’s don’t come around to often.

lets wait tell next year to draft a Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow or a Colt McCoy. thats if McDumbass isn’t fired this season.

I don’t want to hear about rebuilding either cause Mr. Shanny never mention the team was in a rebuilding process we competed for a SB every year even if he wasn’t a true mastermind like many of you think. this is some bull.

  • http://www.broncotalk.net Josh Temple

Here’s a new proposal to the situation, although I have to say BS.
Seattle sending us Hasslebeck and their 4th round pick for Cutler. That would be the best way to clean this mess up. A super bowl quarterback, a high 1st, then draft an understudy with #12. I don’t see it happening in a million years though. Burger Bill is smoking the good stuff.

    http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcwest/0-3-1884/Where-could-Cutler-end-up-.html

  • http://www.broncotalk.net Josh Temple

    That’s #4 pick, not 4th rounder, sorry.

  • champ2203

Hasslebeck is good but now the injuries have been piling up I don’t think that’s even close to a good idea. He is good but on the decline now.

  • http://www.broncotalk.net Hunter

I like Anthony’s thinking! Crybaby and Shlizt to Clev for Brady, #5 (BJ) and both there second rounders. 4 new defenders to inject some youth in the D! Mr. B has phone records big baby, so shut your mouth!
Cutler and B Marshall to Det for #20, Calvin Johnson, there first pick in the second and there second next year! Let’s send crybaby to football hell! Detroit Rock City! CJ is a player!

  • JRODZ

Katch22’s Cleveland trade sounds good, but Mr. East has the right idea in regards to the leverage we have in this. Make Cleveland bend over and grab their ankles if they want him = Brady, Rodgers & their #1 at 5. Tell everyone else to match it or forget it. Jay can sit it out or suit up & make McDumb-Ass the star he wants to be. At the end of the day, WE MUST BE BETTER from all this!

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

    Kerry,

I am highly disappointed in you. You didn’t even comment on the shout out I gave you in the article. I am super cereal.

  • robtink242

all you guys are talking about these great trades regardless. but should you guys question McDumbass trading abilities. Yeah i see where this has come but what if the Cassel trade was executed we would all been down his throat for being an ass. look for a second round and a back up. like Chad Hene and the dolphins secound. DUMB ASS.
