Saying he’ll “take care of it,” new Denver Broncos Head Coach Josh McDaniels had this to say regarding the Jay Cutler situation on the eve of the first team meeting under his tenure:

“I would like to talk to Jay before we go on and start to discuss some other type of alternative. In the last couple weeks, we’ve been all about trying to communicate and resolve his unhappiness with what happened — which we understand — and that’s been our direction.”

A glimmer of hope on the horizon? The Broncos won’t talk trade until they talk to Cutler again. I have my doubts. If a conference call and a face-to-face meeting didn’t take care of it already, what is there left to say?

McDaniels: I’ll take care of it [Denver Post]

    Bowlen,
You can now come out of hiding and get this thing moving. Act like an owner and less like an observer. You need to take charge- lock them in a room and let them have at it.

  • BroncoinVA9986

As first to comment I feel that this would be a good thing. i mean H**L it can’t hurt to try and save our franchise quarterback…If McDaniels and Cutler could meet one on one no Xanders, Bowlen….And no Buzz Crook….we might be rollin…all we can do is pray that it works out

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

Okay McDaniel’s, you have one last chance. Take care of it, or I FU***** pray that Bowlen takes care of you!! You are a freakin’ idiot, and needs to be shown the door. How in the hell do you come to a great organization, with the number two offense in the league, and COMPLETELY F*** it up???ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

  • Nicole

    Broncoinva9986,
I’m buying it! Like I said.. lock them in a room and have at it!

  • jcampb72

Agreed nicole, if bowlen wanted control of his team so bad why isn’t he more involved? Jay even was commented about it. I think it would be huge if McD left Denver to go tell cutler that he is wanted and needed on this team. He did that for Dawkins and he is 36 and a safety. I just don’t get why McD can’t say that he needs/wants cutler? Maybe he believes he doesn’t need him, that would be a huge mistake.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

McD (the badass) will lay down the ground rules for Cutler, if Cutler is reasonable he will accept them as any player should do for his coach. If Cutler is still hurt or wants an apology he will not get one. The choice is yours Cutler, either fall in line, or have a nice life.

  • JRODZ

Looks like Mc-Doofus might actually be reading some of our posts: (Copied from another article) An open letter to McD: Exactly how many NFL games have you won as a Head Coach? Put your dork back in your pants. The pissing contest is over. Tell him he’s your guy, you’ll make it work, sit back, relax and watch Cutler make you a fricking star!

  • Katch22

Bring Shanny back! He’s still under contract!

  • http://www.broncotalk.net Josh Temple

My hope has about diminished at this point, but I’m really hoping this means there is something McDaniels didn’t say in that first meeting but he is now regretting, or at least left something off the table he would like to bring into play.

  • Nicole

    Jcampb72,
I’m also buying what you’re selling! McDaniels thinks he knows more than what he really does- it’s the old I’m tough as nuts and it’s my way or no way deal. He doesn’t realize that he needs Cutler’s endorsement-contrary to what people may believe. Just to prove the point, here’s a little cowboy history (I live in Texas): Aikman and Switzer clashed from day one and it caused tension with the team. They didn’t directly say it, but you could feel it. They did win the super bowl, but a couple of days later Jones fired him. Why? because it was bad with Aikman. That’s what Bowlen has to realize, you have to decide: franchise qb or first year coach. I think that Shanahan handled so much that now he doesn’t know how and walking around with your head in the sand isn’t going to work. If he wants his franchise destroyed- go ahead and act like you don’t care because that’s what it appears to be. If he wants them to talk- they will, where is his backbone? Get it done!

  • TD30isMVP

“You are my Quarterback”, that is what needs to be said, no apologies, just a simple statement.

  • KMA

How about McD having a conversation with Cutler without his agent there? Then maybe what needs to be said can be said. No Agent, No GM, No owner, no leaks to the press. Man to Man, this is the only way these two can air it out.

  • BroncoFan246

I really hope it doesnt com to a trade but if it does then i think we should trade cutler to Cleveland and get Brady Quinn and a first round pick. Then we might be able to pick up someone like Brian Orakpo DE/OLB from Texas.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

Cutler was a no-trade clause imbedded into his contract ….or he was a 13 year 110 million dollar deal with 40 million in guarantees… either will work as a form of apology by the team.

I hope McD talks to Jay man to man … and lets him know his options, because Bus Cook in Jay’s ear.

  • Socal Den Fan

I don’t care who’s fault it is just get it done kiss and make up.Cutler has alot still to prove and McD has proven nothing but how fast he can fu*k things up.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

I’m going to go ahead and advise Josh McDaniels to strap-up, let’s go to war. Jay Cutler’s not the leader of this team, McDaniels is. I’ve got more to say, but I wanted to get that in, I don’t see anything happening other than Cutler playing for Denver next season.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/11510371

Articles like this make me miss the “snake” , it wasn’t pretty, it wasnt always conventional, but dammit he would win.

I do think the Denver Broncos still owe Jake Plummer an apology, alot of us were so caught up with Cutler’s potential we forgot all that Jake did for us.

As a Bronco Fan I will also think fondly of the Plummer years, beating New England in the playoffs was amazing. Winning the AFC WEST (remember when we use to do that?) Also the not so good times, Jake flipping the bird to a fan , the heated exchanges with Shanny… in the end though he won 70% of his games.

    * Note I am not saying that Jake Plummer is better talent wise than Cutler, just saying we let go of Plummer in a very harsh unprofessional fashion. And I believe alot of us focus on what he couldn’t do for us, and not focus on what he did for our.

  • Guy

McDaniels is M-O-R-O-N!!! What would you all be saying if McDaniels had gone to another team and said “lets trade Arron Rodgers, or Phillip Rivers for Matt Cassel.” Many of you would be up in arms. As a Bronco Fan I feel Pat Bowlen should have fired McDaniel for being stupid enough to even think of that trade, much less let it be known he really wanted it to happen. Probowl QB who was a key reason why the team had a chance or a guy who played with a lead and didn’t have to carry ANYTHING on his shoulders. Maybe Bowlen and Al Davis have been hanging out too much. After the terrible colapse last year a good owner would have looked to fire the Defensive staff and keep the best offense in the AFC West and the QB who made it work with out a steady RB. Wonder if Cassel would have even won a game if the defenses he faced put 7 or 8 DB’s on the field in stead of 7 or 8 “in the box”.

  • Colorancher

Mcdaniels screwed up by trying to trade a Pro bowl QB. Cutler screwed up bynot being a professional(or baby) in the football world. Now, somebody needs to break, to get this resolved. Who will it be? Hopefully Cutler. He needs to give this passing game a chance, I think he would like it. And he has great weapons. As for Scheffler, I like Graham better, so if he goes so be it.

    Dee,
I heard that Plummer is actually still under contract??? Father in law:source

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

McDaniels is a coach, not a General Manager or an Owner who has recently declared that, “This is my team,” after firing the Super Bowl winning coach.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

Colorancher- Plummer is under contract, but to the Buccaneers.

  • Colorancher

    Thanks, Ian. I wasen’t sure.

  • Kansas Bronco Fan

If we lose Cutler because of this mess McDaniels has to be fired. Even thinking of trading for Cassel was moronic as he has “one year wonder” written all over him. You could put a monkey at the helm of the Pats offense and you’d win 8 games. I’m a life long Broncos fan and I’ve never seen such lack of class and ineptitude as this clown McDaniels has shown. Bowlen needs to cut bait and fire McDaniels IMMEDIATELY…regardless of what happens with Cutler.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

I wonder what would have happened if we didnt draft Cutler and kept Jake the starter that year. I seem to remember we did have 2 first round draft picks that year.

  • Len

McD broke the trust between head-coach and QB. His “actions” basically told Cutler that he couldn’t win in his “new system”, and the team has a better chance with Matt Cassel (a non-probowl-QB with Moss and Welker). It’s incumbent upon the coach to extend the apologetic hand and go the extra mile. So thank you McD for probably losing a young franchised Elway-like QB.

  • Former Broncos Fan

I wont renew my season tickets if this Cutler situation is not resolved. What a joke the Bronco management and staff are!

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

I’ll be honest – when we drafted Cutler, I hated it. It was a few months after the AFCCG and I wanted to draft defense and push for the Super Bowl.

We can’t change the past now, though. The switch to Cutler should have been long term. This is just a royal clusterf***

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

    Kyle,

I thing I think you will agree with is that this whole mess has also created a divsion amongst Denver Broncos fans , with people aligning themelves on both sides of the line. I support the team and our coach, even though the trade talk may have been a mistake initally I think Cutler and Bus have taken it too far on their side aswell.

I have always called for unity as Fans to support the Denver Broncos, like it hate it McD is the coach and he isnt going anywhere. My hope is hopefully this situation is resolved soon either by Cutler being moved out or him coming back in the fold.

We need to start focusing on the Denver Bronco TEAM going into this new season, and not 2 of the team’s employee’s who are engaged in a catfight.

Lets get back to talking about the Denver Bronco team, and let the coach and his qb squabble or hurt feelings and broken promises.

  • Elway4ever

I blame Tom Brady for the whole mess! first of all, all you fans who say what has Cutler done?? What has McD done?? He has worked under the great Belichick…. we all know who great Mangini and the rest of them have done! Which takes me back to Belichick, He along with the rest of the league passed over Brady 5 or 6 times before drafting him???? It’s easy to bring in free agents when you win(see Brady) when Brady is gone we will see just how Great Bilichick is, along with all of his coaching staff!

Hey! You go coach! I have no problem with you laying down the law, just let Jay know you want him, pretty simple. Jay will fall in line and respond to an intelligent offensive minded coach. We have a lot of players who could do with some NE style discipline and I think Cutler can grow into the leader on the field that we need as well. Wasn’t he already doing so? Remember the myriad of injuries we faced last year!

Let’s just hope McDaniels actually tries to bring Cutler into the fold. If he gives the honest effort Jay as much as said would have worked Sunday… Jay will have no excuse but to play here. In fact he’s on record as saying he’d be here for all the mandatory stuff already. I’m trying to get in line for some orange kool-aide with blue ice cubes (a blue straw?)

Nice to see Putzier back, between him and scheff, maybe we’ll keep a receiving tight end healthy!

Strange, I agreed with most everybody’s posts on this one! Scary. I better wait for T-Money to chime in.

Hear hear on the props for the snake! I’m thinking but for his method of departure, he’d claim Denver his best years.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

    Bus Cook is in Buffalo….

    http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/03/16/bus-cooks-buffalo-trip-raises-eyebrows/

I know the Bills need a TE so the Scheffler speculation makes alot of sense, Buffalo also finished 7-9 I believe? and they draft ahead of his thie year. I’d want at least their 2nd round pick …

Other than that there is no way Jay Cutler gets traded to Buffalo, Trent Edwards is a good quarterback and they haven’t given up on him…. that being said anything is a possibility

Cutler and Scheffler … for Edwards, their 1st round pick and 2nd? (Im just throwing stuff around, this will not happen)

  • http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3983805 WhidbeyBronco

    lol, it better not.
Can we get a blanket party arranged for the Bus?

  • Riverscanbl&wme

“Jay you had me at hello” or “Jay, you complete… ME”. Maybe not these exact words but something like it should put Jay at rest. I agree with everyone saying Bowlen should lock em in a room until the treaty is signed.

I remember watching Brian, Jake, and others like Danny Kannel and wondering if we would ever have a quarterback with the skills of number 7 again. Well, Jay is on that type of level and with enough experience and maybe a defensive stop here and there I believe this team could be playing in February again. Let’s not start all over again, waiting to find that “franchise” guy when he’s already HERE.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

I think we should trade Schfller to Buffalo though, they are desperate for a TE and I believe they may overpay … as long as we get at least their 2nd round pick I am happy.

  • Mickey

Listen I don’t know how many of the fans out there would work for someone who is a lier. That is exactly what mcdaniels is…a young green coach who screwed up and then tried to lie his way out. I have seen this before raising four kids…liers keep doing it until the punishment is greater for lieing than not. I agree with most fans and all the press I have read, especially Woody Paige. Bowen is a wimp not a boss and mcdaniels is a lier! How can anyone in the lockeroom or boardroom trust him? Fire mcdaniels and coach the team yourself Bowen you will have better results!

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

Its interesting to see video of Goodman, Royal, and Peterson at denverbroncos.com, they all seem to be excited about where the team is going and all said that they have faith in the front office to do the right thing. It’s good that there is some positive things happening right now in Dove Valley.

  • http://www.google.com T-Money

Put jay and McD in a room with no windows, one door, no food and no water, a playbook, and locked them in.

Then take all the others and put them into their own individual rooms watched by security.

If that doesn’t work then nothing will.

  • Hansen

Anyone interested in starting a candlelight vigil in Parker?

  • Brian

Who plays first for the Broncos…Cutler or Marshal?

  • Brian

Cook is the venom that is quickly deteriorating my beloved Broncos. If this happens….I just hope that it doesn’t.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

I saw put Jay and McDaniels in a room, one door thats locked, no windows, no food, no water, Have it sauna temp. Than have a television in there, and outta no where, the Saw’s (the movie) jigsaw guy appear on the screen, with his popular “I wanna play a game” sentence on there. Have the game be that they have one hour to get everything settled out the right way, or the door stays trapped forever…..HAHA….

  • DANIEL

WHAT A SPINELESS WIMP OF A OWNER WE HAVE HERE. I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU LET THIS CIRCUS HAPPEN IN OUR CITY. YOU BRING IN THIS WANNA BE COACH THAT IS ABOUT TO LOSE OUR QB. GROW A PAIR AND EITHER LAY DOWN THE LAW OR GET RID OF THIS WANNA BE HEADCOACH. REMEMBER ONE THING BOWLEN, YOU LOSE CUTLER YOU LOSE REVENUE.

  • Nicole

    Daniel,
You are so dead on! Bowlen seems to act as though he is powerless and doesn’t know what to do. He’s the owner and he could solve it but doesn’t want to. I don’t care how great a system is, if you don’t have the right qb it doesn’t work. This year’s draft class is low and no brady quinn is not the answer! He hasn’t played enough and he may not work out. Bowlen needs to handle this- he writes both of their checks. Cutler is revenue…wake up Bowlen!

  • http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3983805 WhidbeyBronco

Hey Kyle, how about a poll

    #1 Trade Cutler
    #2 Fire McDaniels

Pat may not respond directly to what the fans think but if he’s going to back Coach to the point that we actually lose the best chance we’ve seen at replacing Elway (maybe one day) …let’s let him know how we feel now, cuz it’s going to be a long season!!

    What do you say?

  • http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3983805 WhidbeyBronco

#3 could be force them to play nice but too many #2 votes would lean to #3 and cloud the issue…
Joe? what would your vote be?
    Nicole?
    Money?
    jcampb72?

This is day one. How much time has really been invested in our rookie front office & coach? There are six really solid coaches that would take this most excellent job tomorrow!

  • jcampb72

    I don’t know that is a hard one……i’d say #3

  • Nicole

    WhidbeyBronco,
I’m actually taking #3, but this can only happen if Bowlen becomes a real owner and not an observer. He lets them know that he really runs the show when he steps in and tells them that no one’s leaving. That would force them to work together because there are no more options. Josh would have to use Cutler at that point because he doesn’t want to quit and Bowlen has Cutler’s contract. Sooner or later, playing nice will come to actually respecting each other because they weren’t allowed to run away. josh didn’t give himself a chance to work with Jay and this would teach him a valuable lesson-you don’t always get what you want. Be thankful for what you have!
Did you hear that Pat Bowlen! Be thankful!

  • Dakota Fan

Distant memories: sitting in row 38, section 128 in the east section of the old Mile High Stadium, with the dingy old sheet steel stands rattling so loud under rumbling feet that the opposing quarterbacks would call a timeout in frustration.

Know how far away those days seem? A lifetime ago. Now we’re drowning in this soap opera bull sh*t, with a couple of headstrong jocks trying to one up each other.

I’m probably lying about this, but I think I’m done with this crap until I hear that one of two things has happened:

    1. Cutler has been traded and this saga has ended

    2. The two “men” sit down and work this out and we can ENJOY being fans again, looking forward to kicking some ass next year.

I’ll just enjoy my memories and hope I wake up from this ridiculous dream sooner rather than later.

  • OC Bronco

McDaniels has done nothing but bring in guys who can help this team. Whether you like the Shanahan firing or not, we finished 8-8 incl. losses to the sorry ass Bills, Chiefs and Raiders. And please don;t try to pin everything on our Defense.
He might be 32 but he is the head coach and if he puts any player in front of the team, incl Cutler, he will set a precedence and lose control of the locker room. I have little problem with how McDaniels has handled this media circus and I won’t bash him before this thing plays out.
Anyone who so quickly dismisses McDaniel’s trying to gain control of the team needs to rethink things because you are jumping to conclusions. in fact, it is Jay Cutler’s actions that do not match his words.
