J.J. Arrington AND Correll Buckhalter signed

CBS4Denver is reporting that Denver has signed BOTH J.J. Arrington and Correll Buckhalter (pending they pass their physicals).

The details of these deals haven’t been yet been announced, but this could easily be only the first of several deals the Broncos complete today. Rumor has it they plan to sign several other players before this weekend.

Height: 6’0″ Weight: 217 Age: 30
College: Nebraska Experience: 8 years

2008 INFO:
Buckhalter played in 17 games last year (including all three of the Eagles playoff games). He had 79 carries for 369 yeard (4.9 yards per carry). He also caught 26 passes for 324 (that’s a nice 12.5 yards per catch). As mentioned in the last post, he has had a bad history of knee injuries that wiped out three full seasons of action.

2008 INFO:
Arrington played in 15 games last (including all 4 of the Cardinals playoff games and the Super Bowl). He had 31 carries times for 187 yards (That’s a 6 yard per carry average). He also caught 29 passes for 255 yards (8.8 avg.).

My personal opinion is: ‘The more the merrier… as long as the price is right’.

As long as these two players are signing performance-based contracts, I think this is good news for Denver fans. Think of it this way… we just now have two new players that, although backups, have more playoff experience than most of our team. It can’t hurt us.

    I hope they were signed for depth. JJ is a good returner so thats great Eddie and Correll a good third down back. I just read that Payton and Torin are going to be the only RB’s to stay……

    I hope they got something up their sleeves for the D because all the reports I’m reading is we are looking at subpar players.

    Hmmmmmm………..More running backs? And I see Baltimore signed Foxworth for some nice coin. I never did understand trading him, or Gerard Warren for that matter. I hope we get some defense soon!!

    Ya I was pissed when we let Warren go. As for Foxy I didn’t think he was that great of a player for us.

    I’m a Peyton Hillis fan, so I’m still pulling for him. However, getting your best 11 on the field is the goal, so if one of these guys can prove to Bobby Turner and Coach McD that they deserve to start and we can get a good running back AND Hillis on the field (at FB) then it stands to reason we’ll be better off.

    Foxworth was just ok for us but he was no worse then anyone else. The Ravens must see somethig they like for sure. And now, we have nobody. Maybe we can clone Champ.

    I like McFadden… I don’t know if we can afford (read: will pay) for him, but there’s something about him I like.

    I just came over here from the D Post and some of them are already whining about these signings. Maybe we should we should give the new coach and GM the benefit of the doubt. We all should have known that they weren’t go for the big name free agents. I like the Arrington signing,probably play the Kevin Faulk role for the Broncos. As for Foxworth signing for 6 million, I think we might have to get a CB through the draft as I don’t think even Foxworth was worth that much. GO BRONCOS!!!!

    After last year, it’s a miracle running backs would want to come here. It’s kinda like being the new drummer for Spinal Tap. I hope they are worth it, but let’s get some D!!

    We dont need a great running back. Our system shows that anyone can produce. I like the move. It sures up the RB position. Now on to CB, LB, DL, and S.

    jcampb72, I completly agree.

    Our running system has never called for a star back to be successful. And with Ricky/Bobby staying, it won’t change.
    Josh McDaniels system calls for half backs to be able to block and catch out of the backfield well, which Correll is very solid about.

    And why i REALLY think they signed both of these guys- playoff experiance, and good locker room guys. Leadership can’t be measured by a stat, but look at both of this years conference champions, they were littered with good leadership on both sides of the ball, and that rubs off.

    I don’t have a source yet, but someone on another board is saying

    “Adam Schefter reported this morning, that Brian Dawkins, will be visiting Denver today to talk with the Broncos about a future deal. ”

    I’ll have the source once I find it but Schefter is usually as realiable as it gets. This would be HUGE. I didn’t think he’d even talk to other teams and just go back to Philly. He’s old, but he still has a knack for getting to the ball whether its a pick or strip, and he has a lot of what i was talking about in that last post.

    Anyone heard about this?!?

    we have torain, hillis, and i thought pittman, although old, would be nice to resign for short yardage…looks like pittman isnt resigning with us now…..I actually like both guys a lot especilly buckhalter, but dang, more RBs really…?…Just make sure to sign DAWKINS when he visits today…dont let him leave without a deal!!!! ha

    It will be interesting who we keep at the RB. My bet is on Torrain. But somebody should tell this dude he runs to upright. Its like he runs on his tippy toes and he doesn’t want to go down and he gets all contorted and hurts himself. Bobby Turner should fix that.
    Hillis can be kept as a FB.

    So consider the possibility of adding Brian Dawkins AND Ray Lewis (also rumored to be considered by the Broncos) to the D…..yes, both are on their last treads, but would immediately bolster two layers of our D. Not to mention, both are their leaders of their respective clubhouses. Immediately would bring toughness/leadership to our D…..”If” reasonably priced, we could then help us transition to the 3-4 over the next few years/drafts. Will still need some bodies up front as well however….

    Gduck, i think it would be one or the other. As you said, the focus needs to be on the d-line. I’d love either though. And if we someone did land both you wouldn’t see me complaining as long as we addressed the d-line in the draft.

    Yep NathanH, agreed, both probably isn’t reality…that’s why the “possibility” and “If” reasonably priced was mentioned. Ha. It might excite both of them to be able to play together so couldn’t hurt. D-line should then be the priority either in draft or what’s left of FA $s…. I am surprised I haven’t heard of the Broncos being interested in Antonio Smith from the Cards…heard quite a few good raves about him and he played in a 3-4/4-3 hybrid in AZ which I assume we’d be playing a lot this coming year…anyone have thoughts on who we target on the D-line in FA? I also heard that Marques Douglas was cut by Baltimore today and may be a good fit for us…again, an older player but possibly a good stop-gap until we can bring the younger guys from this draft/next get in the system….

    To be a moderately good NFL player at a position where there’s a lot of demand at this time of year…

    i.e. Domonique Foxworth- he was a good d-back with great character who is cashing in right now. I’m not saying he is or isn’t worth the contract he received, but can he earn his $28 million? Is Haynesworth worth $100 million? These big name guys who are being snatched up right now for high dollar amounts will never live up to their hype.

    I know the team personnel guys see a lot more than we see on tape and get a lot more information on free agents and draft picks than we do and don’t go to Adam Schefter and Mel Kiper for advice, but signing these guys to these huge contracts is risky.

    I don’t have a problem not having the high dollar guys on our team as long as they produce. Grab several decent quality position players and build a team. Daniel Snyder hasn’t hoisted a Lombardi Trophy yet, so let him spend his Six Flags/marketing and database billions to sign guys like Haynesworth. Let McD and GmX form a team, not a two-player dynasty.

    I was kinda thinking that the first guys signed would all be on the defensive side of the ball… if they are coming in ‘relativly’ cheap, they do bring lot of depth, although I doubt (knock on wood) that we will ever see a running back fiasco like we did last year

    Wow, Lewis, Dawkins, Champ, DJ. Sounds like we would have the basis for a good D. (Sure beats God F###### Awful). Things sure are happening fast. Can’t wait to see who they will dig up for the Dline. Anybody else have the feeling our starting Dline will be all rookies?

    Any thoughts on Brace from BC, Hood from Missou, Gilbert from San Jose St.?

    I agree with jonathon… It can’t hurt us. Unfortunately I don’t think they can help us much either. on the positive, lesser known names have rushed for 1000 with us and I didn’t want to waste money on the running game at this point anyway….
