Every week, we’ll keep you updated on the latest playoff movement from within the division and around the AFC.

TEN PIT
NYJ DEN

First Round Bye
1. Tennessee Titans (12-2, 8-2)
2. Pittsburgh Steelers (11-3, 9-1)

Other division winners
3. New York Jets (9-5, 7-4)
4. Denver Broncos (8-6, 5-5)

Wild Card
5. Indianapolis Colts (10-4, 8-2)
6. Baltimore Ravens (9-5, 7-4)

On the cusp:
Miami Dolphins (9-5, 6-4)
New England Patriots (9-5, 6-5)
San Diego Chargers (6-8, 6-5)

Notes:
Bills or Bust — Does anyone really want to go into San Diego to face the Chargers with the division on the line? Defeating Buffalo this week will be the key. If the Broncos lose to the Bills and the Chargers beat the Bucs (who are on a two-game losing streak), the winner in Week 17 will win the division.

Third seed almost certainly out of reach — The Broncos would have to win one more game than the Jets, Patriots, and Dolphins to take back the third seed. The Jets would also have to keep their division lead over New England and Miami. Extremely unlikely to say the least.

  • Jordan

Cmon Broncos, lets get this thing over with. Shanny, do your freakn homework and put together a good game plan to close the regular season at Invesco with a win. Going to be a tough game to watch witht the Chuggers and Bucs. I really think that if Garcia plays, they will beat the Chuggers.
    GO BRONCOS BABY!

  • Gary

Kyle, wouldn’t the Broncos take the 3rd seed with a tie of the Jets, since they beat them head to head? That is if the Jets win their division.

Quote: “The Broncos would have to win one more game than the Jets, Patriots, and Dolphins to take back the third seed.”

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

The only way the Broncos get the third seed is if the Jets win the division, and the Broncos catch up one game to the Jets.

That can’t happen unless the Patriots and Dolphins lose a game too. Either of them would win the AFC East and get the third seed over Denver.

So, in order for the Broncos to get the third seed, they need to win one more game than all three, AND the Jets can’t blow it.

  • SivNiz

so right now we would play the Colts at home?

  • dbroncos

Yea i think they would all have to lose and the Jets win a tiebreaker with them to get it. I doubt its happening, but i am glad we will get a home game.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Yeah Colts at home. Of course, we DO need to finish this division off first…

  • Andpark

Div. #1 obviously. Chargers will lose and I wouldn’t think we will have any problems with the Bills at home. That being said_

Wildcard round I am terrified of Peyton, that Offense, and what he does in 4th quarter. I would much rather play the Ravens with a rookie QB. I’ll put Cutler and our Offense against anyone in the league. Now say we win I would much rather play the struggling Titans in Tenn. then the Steelers at Heinz Field so I am more than a little pulled.

I say we have a super young team, 18 new guys since 2006, let’s just get there and have some fun. It’s been a few years.

  • BroncoFan18

Anyone but the Colts, please. Unfortunately, that’s probably not going to happen.

But yes..DIVISION FIRST!!! Focus on Sunday, Broncs. I want to finally put away the stinkin Chargers and Mr. Ego Rivers. They are like a fly buzzing around in my ear all season long, especially the past couple of weeks. Let’s PUT THEM AWAY.

And by the way, I’d like to say one thing. Get into the playoffs and anything can happen. Just ask the Giants and Steelers. Regular season record means absolutely nothing. So if, IF, we get in, I say we have a chance to do something special.

  • MIAbronco

    never say die bronco nation!!!

  • flbronc

hate to ask about the pessimist scenario, but if both the broncos and chargers lose, that means we win the division correct?

though the bucs dropped their last two, i think that they will win against the chargers at home, they’re a pretty good team especially at home.

  • scotto

i think a chargers loss clinches us the division regardless of whether we win or not.

  • dee

welcome back Kyle… I think Tampa will take care of business… and so will we …. then we get to see our backup in action …Hackney Vs Rivers… in Week 17

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

The Denver Broncos re-signed safety Herana-Daze Jones on Wednesday, replacing recently released running back Cory Boyd.

Just thought I might throw that in

  • http://laprit@lycos.com AtomicLeo

Don’t count on Tampa. They folded late last year and are repeating the feat this year. Beat the Bills and we’re in. We can’t beat the Chargers at home in Week 17.

I’d rather face Indy then Baltimore. Payton is scary, but Cutler can put up some points on the Indy D. Baltimore D would give us major fits.

  • Roy

    Herana-Daze….That name cracks me up.

  • Broncoholic

Of course I hope we wrap the division up with a win vs the Bills, but come on guys, what’s with everybody thinking we have no chance against SD? I’ve come to expect that kind of talk from the media, but I didn’t expect to hear that so many Broncos fans feel the same. I think we have a great shot at beating the Bolts whether we have clinched the division already or not. Besides, if we can’t beat the Chargers with the division title on the line than we have no business being in the playoffs anyway.

  • broncoNM

Im not gonna say we couldnt pull it off in SD if we needed to but man it would be a shame if it came down to that game. In SD with momentum on their side. We need to take care of business in Invesco this weekend. Crush the Bills! I fear peyton and the colts. I would much rather face the ravens. Peyton has just done too much to my pysche from past playoff games. At least the game would be at Invesco and not on turf. BUT FIRST Crush the Bills! Dont count on Tampa. The Chiefs already let us down last week. I want to leave no questions on sunday. Beat the bills and then make week 17 an embarrassing and worthless game for the chargers. Man that would be awesome.

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

the optimist in me would prefer to have a shoot out against the colts and a quarterback that will throw at champ bailey.

Although the pessimist in me sees harrison being wide open down the middle and mccree and manual standing over him discussing who missed the assignment while he gets up and runs for a td.

  • jchase8410

For the love of all that is holy, can someone PLEASE get ape pressure on the damn QB? I don’t care if we get any sacks, just make him throw the ball early. Just be there to make him force something, and if you can’t get there, at LEAST get a hand up and try to knock some balls down.

  • Roy

It’s hard to get pressure on the passer when you spend the entire game walking around with your hands on your hips. It’s funny, I watch our d-line, and there is no fire. They walk around like they deserve to be there. One thing is for certain, something has to be done in the off season.

  • Mark in Carolina

if we can’t beat the Bills @ home, we don’t deserve the playoffs. Heck, we probably don’t deserve it anyways, but especially if we can’t beat the Bills.

It really doesn’t matter what happens in Tampa. If we can’t beat a 6-8 Bill team, who has lost 7 of their last 8, I shudder to think what would happen if we caught a peaking Colts team.

  • Andpark

    Is this correct_

If the Colts win tonight, Steelers beat the Titans on Sunday and Colts over Titans next week they can swap seeds? If that is true I would love to get a Titan team in a free fall. Go Colts!

  • broncoNM

Wow. That would be a disaster for the Titans. I think i fear the colts more than any other team. Not that the steelers, titans, and ravens are not as good but i feel we would have no answer for Peyton. For some reason i feel like there is a better chance of Big Ben, Collins, or Flacco having a bad game in the playoffs instead of Peyton. Our run defense is slightly better and after last week i have very little confidence in our pass D. I really dont care who we play as long as we get there. Your gonna play a tough team in the playoffs and the road to the super is not easy so i say bring it on. BUT FIRST we have to PUMMEL the bills. I sersiously cannot handle a loss this sunday. Go Broncos!

  • Broncoholic

Andpark: I heard on ESPN radio today that the Colts can’t move up any higher than the 5th seed. I think the only way we don’t play the Colts in rnd 1 is if they lose their last 2 and have either the Ravens, Dolphins, or Patriots win out & bump them to the 6th seed.

  • Andpark

Damn Co-Worker getting my hopes up..

Bucs haven’t lost at home, they are fighting to stay in the Playoffs and the Chargers suck, on the road they also suck more.

Bucs will win so the Broncos just need to focus on not making mistakes. Figure out our rushing game and try and keep Lynch in check. Then_

Well then sounds like the Colts it is. Cutler needs a perfect game and the only way we can stay in that one is by keep on scoring and try and play at least a little D in the 4th. Scared though, Colts is not the preferred game.

  • Evan

Do you guys think champ will play? I think we really need him this week, even if he isnt at 100%. If he can shut down Lee Evans it makes life so much easier because bly can easily stay with their number 2 guy, allowing us to put 8 or even 9 in the box to shut down lynch

  • Broncoholic

Yeah, my first thought was anybody but the Colts too. Especially with how they’ve been playing lately. How sweet would it be to get some revenge on them though. It is going to be a tough game but if we play up to our potential we can beat them, or anyone in the AFC for that matter. That would get a huge monkey off of our backs. First things first though, take care of business this Sunday.

I do think Champ will play. There was an article in the RMN that made it sound like he will probably go. I hope he & Clady both play this Sunday. It should be interesting to see how we perform with our backs against the wall. It should show how much heart we have. I think we play hard and show that we belong in the playoffs by crushing the Bills.

  • rcsodak

Indy can’t move up—-Tenn WON their division.
And Indy locked up #5 with their recent win.
Denver, IF they win, or SD loses, will play Indy in the playoffs – no way around it.
Indy has no running game. So Denver just needs to stop the pass. Nothing to it….

    ergh….

  • jchase8410

I’m not even thinking about the Colts, or the bolts. I know what can happen when you look too far into the future. I look no farther than tomorrow’s game with the Bills.
We can’t count on SD to lose, especially with all the talent they have on the team. It is true that Tampa Bay SHOULD beat SD, but that doesn’t mean they WILL. Denver has to go out and make it clear that they won the AFC West, I would prefer it wasn’t by default.
We all know the media has some kind of anti-bronco jedi mind trucks they like to pull. My favorite is that Denver is a” crappy team in a crappy division” and they don’t deserve to make the playoffs and keep better teams with better records out.
I would think that some of this negativity would spark a fire under their asses…I would think…

  • boston

playoffs? playoffs?? cant wait for the chargers to bust up the donkeys next sunday: and shut up their delusional fans
